Customer at a first meeting:
- "Didn't realize you're a developer, you're almost good looking!"
Never got a more bittersweet compliment.20 -
Manager (walking in in the morning): ey linuxxx, looking good today!
Me: w-what? I'm not wearing much special, what's so great about my outfit? But than....
Boss: April fools motherfucker!
Well, I had it coming .______.8 -
Me: "I'll never be able to do this"
Me: "I suck at coding"
Me: "What am I even looking at"
Me: "Im going to get fired for being incompetent"
Me: "They could have hired a child with more coding prowess"
Supervisor: "Hey, good job. Keep up the good work."
Me: "Pfft of course you're talking to a pro here."13 -
I was looking for some good loading gifs, and waited more than a minute for these images to load...9

Recruiter: This is a 100% remote position
Dev: Good! That’s what I’m looking for.
Recruiter: But the company does require you to come into the office “on occasion”
Dev: I live 5 hours away from your office so that would be not a good fit
Recruiter: And once covid is over the ability to work remotely will be getting reconsidered. You’ll likely need to move cities in order to continue your employment with them.
Dev: Yeah I’m looking for 100% remote work
Recruit: This is 100% remote! Just with the need to come into the office sometimes now and potentially more later.
Dev: …15 -
Considerations when looking for a tech video course:
5%: Does it have good ratings
5%: Is it priced reasonably
90%: Does the narrator have a smooth soothing voice with an intonation which keeps me dreamy & enchanted, yet with an energized articulation, like a cup of Jasmin tea with clover honey on a dreary Sunday afternoon.
The content may be very good, but if I have to sit through 30 hours of material, you better tickle my ears the right way.10 -
I wish android made plug-in enabled widgets available by default. It would be whole lot cooler if I wouldn't have to spend 2-3 hours to make a good looking widget.13

I have a lot of respect for anyone who can design a good looking website.
I can code like crazy. And I was a freelance classically trained illustrator for 10 years. But ask me to design a website and it's all spinning giffs, midi tracks, and Comic Sans. Some kind of early 90's geocities nightmare.7 -
Me: You're looking rested - the vacation does you good, it seems.
Co-worker: I didn't have vacation?!
Me: but our PM does.
Co-worker: ...2 -
Url shortener seems to be working well enough as for the features without interface yet, still doing testing but it's looking good (few minor non-critical bugs but that's it as far as I can see)
Now the frontend/interface.
😅😰😬22 -
FUKING RECRUITERS:
Good Day <NAME>, Hope this message finds you well.. One of my clients is currently looking for 6x C# developers and i strong believe you are the right candidate for this position. Are you open for new opportunities?
FYI, I have never used C#, it is not listed in any way on my LinkedIn profile, do these fuckers not fucking read.8 -
VLC because it really is damn good. The only player which gives you a nice looking interface irrespective of the windowing system it runs upon - Gnome, KDE, XFCE, MS-Windows, Mac. And that 200% boost in audio is really helpful with files having very low audio.13

May not be much but this is my first desk as a programmer; no more awkwardly hopping from couch to couch or from Starbucks to Starbucks. Outlook for future productivity is looking good y'all.5

I live next to a nightclub and went outside for a fag.
It’s wet, 2:30am and kinda cold.
A girl and her boyfriend come out of the club..
Her feet hurt because of her high heels so she takes them off, walking on the wet, cold road barefoot now.
Her boyfriend sees it and tells her to put them back on.
She denies.
He takes off his shoes and gives them to her (good boyfriend...) she puts them on, almost falling over cause she’s hammered as fuck, takes them off again and says they don’t fit and look stupid on her..
WTF, I understand taking the shoes off When she’s drunk but I don’t understand how the fuck she could care if it looks good at half 2 in the morning in an empty town..
I’ve seen it all now..

Playing sound on OS boot is just as bad idea as automatically playing sound on a website load. Yes I'm looking at you Ubuntu.
// it can be muted I know but.. who decided it was a good idea in the first place?11 -
"Hi, our client is looking for a dot net developer, and we think you'll be a good fit."
- you got the wrong person i believe.
"you list laravel & phalcon.. Those are .net?"
I'm not sure what to say here, a recruiter whom doesn't see my employed tag & doesn't know how to Google..
Laravel & phalcon is .net.. Aaallrighty then.6 -

my job offer reply rant from today >>>>
Hi,
thanks for the offer but reading from job description your solutions look obsolete, old and complete mess to me.
I am mainly focused on modern open source, flexible technology stack and this job would not be a challenge I am looking for.
Good luck
Kind regards
<<<< end of story1 -
I thought that learning C would give me a good baseline for learning whatever other programming language.
Then I started looking into Haskell.8 -
I start with the features I want for sure and then i start looking at what data I really really need to store. Then I start looking at what data I don't have to store because of privacy reasons anyways.
Next stop is looking at the security.
When that all looks good, I simply start programming!5 -
Pretty simple oversight in a SQL pull led someone to run about 3,300 background checks that had already been run. Somebody told me we spend $25 per check, which would have totaled around $84,000. It ended up being much less, but for a good 40 minutes I assumed I'd be looking for other work the next day.1

I love how just a couple of mods can change 16 years old game into still legitimately good looking game and yet keep its original charm17

My current favourite music genre.
I've listened to rock, metal, general top40 music and so on but when I listen to a good rawstyle mix, I get into a very high/hyper concentration state.
I haven't had that with any other music genre.
Currently looking into producing it myself.9 -
First day of my new job tomorrow.. nervous as fuck, still looking forward to it:)
New year, new job, new home.. it’s gonna be good!
Just wanted to share this:)6 -

I just ordered some stressballs & stickers from devRant, eventhough I would have earned free stickers by now.
I just think they deserve this support! I love this app and I'm really looking forward to some good stress relief. :)2 -
Wife wanted me to make sure that we can watch the entire season 12 and 13 of degrassi while in the hospital (which has no good internet connection), but there is no good torrent or anything that lets you get it downloaded locally.
So I wrote a super basic script to scrap the season from YouTube and download it. Now just having fun looking at it.5 -
Drinking good whiskey, listening to Chopin and birds singing, looking at moon.
I can do it for the rest of my life.3 -

I was amazed by looking at the design of WordPress readme at GitHub.
It's really amazing, just as good as the WordPress websites.
Please have a look

Installed the beefiest shaders I could find on Minecraft and combined them with my favorite texture pack. Logged into SkyBlock on Hypixel and it was pretty good looking.21

They say a rant a day is good for you.

3. I'm typically the best looking dude in the office, so it gives me a great ego boost2 -
"I met with a potential client today and part of their opening gambit was how they were looking for revolutionary work delivered within a tight timescale, and if the work could be done a reduced rate then they’d be able to send a load more work our way. … They were saying that they wanted work that was fast, good, and cheap. And if the work was fast, good, and cheap enough, the reward would be the offer of more work that is fast, good, and cheap. … Let me be clear about this, these people are evil, and their work is poison. Holy shit did Google become fucking useless
Today I spent a good hour looking to buy replacement / low-light lenses for my googles, and all I got were stores from US, or small stores that don't deliver across the Europe. When I gave up and opened Bing, the first result was the exact product I was looking for, from the brand's official EU store. I'm seriously considering switching to Bing now...7 -
Why do viedo tutorials always assume that one doesn't know anything about programming?
If I am looking up a framework or library there's a good chance I know what a for loop is, and even if I didn't it's not the place to teach me 😒13 -
Everyone is on their vacation and I am in good mood so time to refactor some 3 year old frontend, angular, javascript code. After 5 minutes of looking, some great quality of code snippet on the image below.10

Day 5, saga of fighting crystal reports and Oracle drivers: I have finally lost the rest of the hair on the top of my head, and fear my beard may be thinning. My rubber duck seems to be suffering from a personality disorder... things aren't looking good.1

Do you think I should give Atom another shot or stick with VSCode?
I've tried it several times but I always found it sluggish, slow in everything and bugged. VSCode is so much smoother and fast.
But damn Atom is so much more good looking, especially with nebula theme.
It's like choosing between the nice, decent-looking guy and the rude but definitely good looking fuckboy chad10 -
After days and days of thinking and looking for inspiration, yesterday I came up with an original design.
Everything good, and after an hard work I relax reading the Google Play Awards 2018 nominations. Fine, except for the fact that there's an app which looks EXACTLY like mine.1 -
!happy stuff
Couple of months back I applied for a scholarship with Udacity to get into android programming with Google and today I got the mail of acceptance.. I got the scholarship!! For me personally who not often sees the good side my progress in life I'd thought that to be amazing and strongly looking forward to it!!6 -
So true and why I've gone on and on over years saying technical interviews are just crap... Good solutions cannot be thought of in 30mins unless you recite what you remembered beforehand.

Had to modify, but phone case is looking good.

That moment, when you waste 4h looking for a bug and realize that there is a missing ';'.

When you've finished a project and the site goes live, you get a message from the client "looking good". To me that implies it's not finished, and I'm expecting a follow up message "can you just..."4

What the FUCK is the point of submitting a PR, if you're going to approve my code, without looking at it, and then LEAVE ME to further refactoring.
I don't mind the refactoring. At. All.
What I DO mind, is being told "yerp, looks good" and then standing aside as I break everything.

Started a new gig doing APIs and deployment pipelines. After a few weeks a new boss came on the scene and decided I'm now a web dev, and the API and pipelines are going to be scrapped, and replaced by something with less availability and scalability.
Anyone looking for a good back-end dev?

I have a love hate relationships with Google.
As an investor, I love how they are a natural monopoly that keeps growing into new areas...
As a deaf user, And I hate how they find ways to screw me over while still looking good.9 -
Nothing good will ever come by looking at your old projects. It is the dev equivalent of reading your old social media posts.5

You know you did good for the week, when you realize that the infinite loop looking logs you were trying to recreate for the last half hour was in fact caused by how you held your thumb on the side of the thin bezeled device you were inspecting...

Electron devs: You know that this is the difference between a good looking and bad looking MacOS Electron app.

Hey guys! I need help!
I started to write a blog about the stuff I currently investigating: How to combine React, Oauth and Node.js.🤯
However, my penmanship isn’t that good.
So I’m looking for some nice stock images for good meme and funny pictures to support my writing.
Does Anybody know where I could download a nice bundle instead of google them one by one?🤔4 -
What's the best laptop for programming?

I am not good with kids. I know I know. Last week or so, my managers kid thought it would be a good idea to hijack my meeting. I was sharing my screen and on full blown explanation mode, only to realise after my explanation, it was the kid who was looking at my face and not the boss man.
God I panicked. I was like 'Who the hell are you?'

Start the weekend looking forward to making good progress on home projects, only to find something unrelated which stops you doing a project, by the time that's resolved you have lost the will to spend more time at the computer..... How do you get past it?4

Yesterday, I was looking back at a project that isn't a focus right now, and unintentionally realised the cause of a frustrating bug. It's a one line fix and the smallest PR I've ever done, and it was such a good feeling!2

Anyone have one of the new MacBook Pros with Touchbar? I'm looking for some project ideas to work on.
I already am working on a project for the Pi-hole project (network wide ad-blocking) but I am looking for some other good ideas. I think Apple's view of the Touchbar fell short, but as developers I think it opens up a lot of possibilities to use it as a great information/monitoring tool.
I am also still learning Objective-C and Swift so I am a newbie.5 -
Dear CSS,
although you can make even the ugliest mess look beautiful, I despise you more everytime we have to cross paths.

Started working on my old idea about contact app... Looking for some good name... And found an app having 30% common features I was thinking about. :(
Not sure if taking patent is a good idea on rest of the features.5 -
Looking forward to getting my head around cssgrid, browser support looking good, soon be ready for primetime.2

I'm a C++ dev, but last month I was working in the vegetable fields to help my young brother and his business. And right now I'm going to sleep outdoor after my birthday party looking at the stars.
Free spirit is a good point dealing with free languages like C++ you know :D
Sweet dreams btw :p -
So I was designing a transformer and was looking up toroidal cores. The one I had in mind was made of a material the manufacturer calls “3E5”. Looking for a material datasheet I found a website with a download link for a material “300000”…
Dear web devs: How the fuck is that even possible? I can see what happened here but who thought whatever they were doing there was a good idea?9 -
Can anyone recommend a good cross platform way to develop GUI applications?
Looking at building an IDE for GMS-2 to add a new workflow but can't find any good GUI's...
(I want to use C# and yes i would ask on stack overflow but im more likely to get help here and not get called a dick head... Maybe)17 -
Don't. Especially while you're not a senior specialist. It doesn't really matter bad company or good: they all have something bad, they all have something good. From the bad examples you will learn WHAT, HOW and *WHY* should not be done. From the good examples you will learn what and why works and how efficiently.
Next month I'm gonna be working on a project that is SO bad I will flood DR with rants. But I'm looking forward to it, because I know I will learn what else should not be done.
Better learn from their mistakes than your own2 -
Legit Apple Interview
There are three boxes, one contains only apples, one contains only oranges, and one contains both apples and oranges. The boxes have been incorrectly labeled such that no label identifies the actual contents of the box it labels. Opening just one box, and without looking in the box, you take out one piece of fruit. By looking at the fruit, how can you immediately label all of the boxes correctly?
Those who got it answer it directly on Saturday/Sunday until then good luck10 -
Husband looking into online schools for CS. Anything data science related. He loves math (and is freaking good at it) and teaches himself R for fun.

You know when you decide to choose a language/framework/platform not because it's the best for the job, or the one with most developers, or the one with most job offers, but simply... because it makes you feel good, even just by looking at the code...!

You know what's a good place for init Files? A standardized place...
A place, where one would expect it...
You know where isn't a good place
/usr/lib/systemd/{user,system}/
You know what is also a fuckin bright idea? Generic names....
Postgresql-10 is a rather anoying service name, if your plattform doesn't feature autocomplete for your plattform. Looking at no one. *Cough* centos *cough*
Well at least manpages for the service would have been nice...2 -

Web Ops Director: [looking at a screenshot of changes she had requested] This looks good. Oh by the way, revert that red color for heading text.
Me: I’m not reverting anything because there’s nothing for me to revert. I didn’t touch that text color. The website has always looked like that.
Director: [shocked pikachu face]3 -

Looking through a former developer's drive for their projects folder is kind of like a treasure hunt, only you don't get something good at the end of it usually.
Especially when there's a good reason they're a "former" developer.
Non-standard locations.
Behold, latest deployed code changes are uncommitted.
Alcohol, please save me.2 -
I was looking for a JS library for good typing effects for my portfolio... couldn't find any
So I had created my own... with blah blah blah effects
Today I was trying to search in Google, if in case it appears on 1st page of search result.... Now I've found at least 4 good libraries for typing effects
Now comparing with each to check if it is worthy to spend time to add new features.5 -
Can you recommend me any 13 inch notebooks. I want to buy a notebook to use as my main workstation.
I mostly do web / Android development but also looking to get more into ML so a good graphics card would be good. I will put linux on it but I am not sure about the distro yet.4 -
Don't love the environment where an idiot developer, who has perfected his people skills and Visio skills constantly impresses the management with good looking charts, albeit unintelligible, and the management adopts his stupid ideas every time.1

Fellow devRanaters, I'll have my first interview on Monday for a summer internship in a really good looking company. What should I do to prepare myself? Any suggestions?18

I am already tired before even looking at this code.
Looking at your code makes me cry.
I can insult myself whole day but it won’t be enough to survive looking at your coding style.
If cpu could talk it would ask for heater removal because your code depresses it so much.
Looking at your code makes my monitor burn out.
Downloading your code makes my hard drive stop.
And my favorite:
You’re already good developer so now stop writing and appoint as manager / tester. -

Am I the only one who actually thinks Edge is actually significantly better than other browsers?
Like right now with 2 tabs open it's only using 17MB and it doesn't have any ridiculous features like an inbuilt video chat (looking at you Firefox). It's just simple and good at being a browser...
I like that in my browsers...10 -

Everyone knows how hard it is to get your first job. Everywhere wants 1-3 years of experience.
What noone tells you thought is that's hard at the other end. When you're looking for architect/tech lead roles you will see loads of postings but upon investigation they're just mislabeled senior developer positions.
And of course, if you're looking for good money, it feels almost impossible to get beyond the screening stage... -

Hello devs. This happens to be my first rant. And I got a question to start off.
I'm looking for an existing public/open-source React project which is not too hard to understand and has a good folder/file structure and code structure. Something that gives me an idea of how a good production level code and project should be.
Any recommendation is appreciated. Can be your own project too.

Looking for recommendations on electronics learning kits. My 16 year-old son has recently been tearing into old electronics and trying to make new stuff with the components. I want to give him a more formal and engaging intro to what it is he’s playing with and how many other cool things he could do. He does struggle a bit with math and gets discouraged easily if he doesn’t understand new concepts or why they’re relevant. So, if you know of a good learning kit that balances lots of cool possibilities with good documentation and tutorials, I’d appreciate a little help.
I’m currently looking at Elegoo. https://amazon.com/EL-KIT-008-Proje...4 -

Aesthetics are important
It had been a while since I had a look into the Yii framework. Went into their website today. I was surprised to see that they had changed the design of a lot of it. This is particularly good since I believe that one thing that really makes devs(particularly web since most of us are full stack) ignore a tool is the presentation of it on its respective website. That being said, it is really hard for any PHP framework to go ahead and compete with how really good looking and easy to navigate the Laravel website is.
I know this might seem as a shallow thing to look at. After all, a tool can be amazing and have a 90's looking website, and this happens a lot in certain communities. But all in all I am pleased that the Yii framework website is looking as good.
Then again Rails(the Ruby framework) has a "looks like a toy" website and the framework is really powerful and advanced. -
Taught me just because something looks right it doesn't mean it is right. Ex: memory leaks, connection strings, 32 length passwords, and good looking women. Oh wait that last one could be a rant by itself cause you can't find a good looking woman that isn't crazy and won't wake you up if you do manage to get to bed1

Dear Web developers,
I'm looking to boost my skills and improve work flow. I was wondering what sort of tools, editors or platforms would you recommend? I currently use wordpress, php, jquery, sass, react, node and laravel.
I've heard about awesome ways where you can monitor project changes, something like github but with gui for design drafts and stuff.
Also I heard about good online platform for Web development, something like online sublime text where all your files are saved within cloud platform. I'm looking for something that will unify my work throughout different work places.
Lastly, are there any good sites or new technologies that are fairly popular and good to learn or research?12 -

Should I speak up? This will dramatically impact us in a negative way.3 -

Just finished a little proof of concept of a reprojected multisample antialiasing technique and daaaaamn it's looking good. First time ever a rendering technique I invented isn't complete shit so that's an improvement
It still has some (pretty big) issues with both spatial and temporal ghosting but I have some ideas in the pipeline
I wish I could show you guys comparison images but as it turns out most anti aliasing techniques look pretty good on still frames but only the good ones stand up under motion and I don't know of a good way right now to capture pixel perfect clips like that5 -

Hi guys and gals!
Currently in the search for a good management team for solo freelancing projects. I've used Trello before but am looking for something that maybe tracks time spent on tasks for hourly charge and is more defined to web development/design.
If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance! Keep on keeping on!4 -

Newbie question
Any good free resources for full stack web development. Also if a resource teaches mainly frontend but also teaches some backend it is a full stack web development resource in my eyes. I was looking at freecodecamp but it is a bit too vast for me. I am also looking at the cokplete intro to web development v2 course by Brian holt for free on frontend masters but it is 2 years old and has not been updated. Also it does not teach that much bakcend hust node and express.
Also another question is frontend masters good for web development. I did not find many threads about it. I got a discount for it which gives me a one year subscription for 195 dollars18 -

Looking to get in to Android development. I have plenty of experience with programming, but not for mobile platforms. Anyone have any good resources (that are up to date)? -
What do you even write while searching for DevRant? I’ve spent a proper 15minutes looking for this thing to no avail, I guessed I should look at the recommendations next to the Dev app and luckily found it. I changed phones some years back and even forgot the name.
Feels good to be back though.4 -

I would definitely recommend EzPrint to anyone who is looking for good service, good quality namecards at super great discounted price !
