I fucking love my parents.
Came to visit them again and told them that I might buy an iPhone in the future (I fucking hate apple/i-devices and they know that).
Mom: "You are going to WHAT? Are you okay, son?"
Dad: *walks towards me and puts hand on forehead* "Hmmm, doesn't seem to be that warm. Maybe we should visit a psychiatrist soon."
Me: 😂. mom, dad, I fucking love you.52 -
My last employer lost 6 devs and 2 designers within a month because they thought money could buy them the right to treat employees like shit.
F_ money. We love our self respect more.6 -
Microsoft is now a member of the Linux Foundation.
While the dev community makes OS wars, the company and the foundation is making love. Take them as role models.9 -
Wife: the neighbors brought their pc, it doesn't work.
Me: WTF did I say to you. I DON'T REPAIR ANYTHING NO PCS, PRINTERS, WASHMACHINES NOTHING TELL THEM TO GET THE FUCKING PC GODDAMIT ITS MY FREE DAY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.3 -
I am gonna rage for a bit.
Before I start, know this: I diehard love development, computer science and everythjng surrounding it.
The area comes with a very nice and interesting history and cultural impact. In particular, here as it was in the U.S of A. I love it, I love researching till my eyes beg me to stop and my brain fries. I love reading about history and the silicon knights that madd shit happen through digital wizardry.
And you can only imagine how happy I was when I got my shiny lol B.S in Comp Sci, keep it in my office and errthang.
I
Fucking
Love
My
Field
But. I have noticed something recently. In 2018(obviously before that) this new generation has a knack for making things cringey.
What do I mean by that?
Well, shit like that. Is it necessary? Or what about images(multiple) showing stuff like "double tap for your favorite language!"
Why? Why must we be this way? Why do people find a way to shit all over nice things? Is this shit necessary?
I specially hate pictures of girls showing their legs and right next to them a laptop with some basic af css file --->#codergirl ....fuck off.
Or the trillions of code pictures that are only html or some js framework flavor of the week.
Its just retarded man.39 -
Alestorm had a huge rubber duck with them at Alcatraz metal festival yesterday. I love them even more now! 😂6
-
I let my wife use my laptop for a minute. She closed all my tabs and I can't restore them. Our love died inside a little today.9
-
There's one kind of ticket I fucking love. Wait, YOU LOVE TICKETS?! No, except for one.
Tickets where people ask us to restore backups.
Why do I love them?
Because the only fucking thing I need to do is reply with a link to a helpdesk item on our website because backups aren't something within our support range because it's easy for customers to do.
So whenever a ticket about restoring a backup comes in, it's as easy as opening the ticket, pasting the link with "I'd like to refer you to the following resource: " and pressing fucking "reply"
😄15 -
Do side projects, even if they're small. If you already have completed side projects, show them off. Employers love to see your efforts and eat that up.10
-
Employer: so why do you want to join this organization?
Engineer: well like i said in the first 4 interviews, I love desks. Sitting behind them. Standing behind them.
Employer: are you a standing or sitting man?
Engineer: i like to sit in the morning and then switch up to stand at lunch.
Employer: a man with a plan. Very good. Do you remember anything from school?
Engineer: not a goddamn thing.
Employer: perfect. You don't need math. Just emails. You like emails?
Engineer: love emails.
Employer: there's gonna be a lot of emails.
Engineer: can't get enough emails.
Employer: perfect. Do you like a clear separation between life and work?
Engineer: oh not at all. I like it to muddy together in a never ending hell.
Employer: alright and you're familiar with work culture?
Engineer: oh those hours i work for free?
Employer: yes.
Engineer: I love that bullshit.
Employer: alright terrific. And are you familiar with the hate hierarchy?
Engineer: yeah the tech's hate the engineers, the engineers hate the tech's and the managers hate everyb-
Employer: everybody. Perfect. Alright I- honestly I think we'd like to make an offer.
Engineer: well, first I gotta leverage that with my current employer for a raise. And if they don't budge, I'll jump shut.
Employer: no loyalty at all?
Engineer: not at all.
Employer: you're hired.5 -
Contrary to most people I really love to receive email related to jobs when I'm in holiday. I keep important alerts on.
It's like:
email: ***urgent, server down***
me (sipping mojito by the pool): fuck them. let's them deal with that
email: ***requirements all wrong, must develop the feature again***
me (enjoying a dinner): oh, I told them 100 times!, fuck all of them, work for me now, stupid moron.
email: I destroyed by mistake the db with an update..."
me (dancing like crazy): ahahaha I told you that support guys should not have access to production db, fuckfuck you, fix it yourself!!!
and so on..... I don't know, it just boost my pleasure during holiday.9 -
OK! all you windows haters.
This is why i totally love windows to death.
it has awesome features no other OS has...
like, installing updates to office and Skype when they are not even installed, there's not even a registry entry anywhere for them!!
now show me another OS that updates non existing software and ill be all over it!
On a serious note, does anyone know how windows would think office and Skype are installed since I can’t find a single trace of them anywhere?23 -
A story of love, loss, and devRant.
My favorite sunglasses were a victim of hurricane Irma. They were sitting on the park bench when a powerful gust of wind blew them onto the cement floor, where both lenses were fucked right where I look out of them. I bought these sunglasses at Disney with my family and have not stopped wearing them since. I was pretty upset.
Enter devRant. Sad and without sunglasses, I hoped that virtual ones might suffice. Lo and fucking behold, in the profile editor, there they were: my exact sunglasses, even with the choice between silver and gold. Absolutely fucking perfect. Made my day.10 -
Apparently, because I know how computer works and how to program
I also had to know how to:
- become rich
- hack into banks
- solve all world problems
- make a better windows/facebook/apple/google
- repair a burned down PC
Sometimes I think they are scared that I'm able to zap them with a lightning strike as if would be a motherfucking wizard.
Still love my family though ;)3 -
Our company took us to Amsterdam. Best company ever. They offer a 4days mystery tour every year. (which means we know the destination only when we arrive 😄) I love working for them !13
-
Gotta love clients which ask you for a quote to expand the system you did for them, then a week or two later "accidentally" found some cheap absolutely garbage dev that made it for 1/5th of your price and during all that destroyed half your work, by e.g. replacing uuids with just ids, making the system now leak how many users there is, all their user saved content, allowing to just increment through them all, also then acting surprised when I decline any further work with them.
Then theres also clients that even after explaining all physical or software limitations, act like you should be a core developer and just fix that, for fucks sake you were using freaking excel sheets before, be happy with any possible change.3 -
It's a Sunday, playing around with code/servers/config stuffs and decided to give Arch another try! Downloaded Apricity OS (Yes, I still love beautiful interfaces I don't have to fully configure), realized I didn't have any spare discs so went looking for a USB flash drive.
Seriously. Those FUCKERS are always around when you don't need them.
But ohhhhh, the FUCKING SECOND YOU NEED THEM, THEY ARE NO-FUCKING-WHERE TO BE MOTHERFUCKING FOUND.
Well, there goes my FUCKING plans for today.14 -
I love writing and using my own apps!
Was just using 2 of them but found a new annoyance...
No problem! Open the source code, add the functionality, publish and install 😆
10 minutes after... All good and better 😁1 -
Why do Pokemon masters love JavaScript?
Because you gotta, try/catch them all
Haha. No laughs? Okay
*curls into a ball7 -
Welcome to the gang you sticky little sticker. Im glad they made all the way to germany. Thx @dfox8
-
The only thing I love about StackOverflow is that the hot network questions are clickbait-y but when you click on them you actually get the content you wanted.11
-
Aren't lambda expressions just the most frustrating thing sometimes? But how can you not love them when they get the job done in one-liners? 😍2
-
There are a lot of people hating on Microsoft (C#, .Net ...) in devRant. And there are a lot praising StackOverflow, linux and opensource.
I wonder how it makes them feel that stackoverflow is built on .Net and C# and is not open source!
Btw, I love linux too, I just don't hate the other operating systems(companies).13 -
A recent project actually taught me how HORRIBLY STUPID it is to store large bodies of text in a SQL Server database. There were millions of records with pages of compressed text each.
More and more text records pile on every single day. Needless to say it was becoming super slow and backups were taking WAY too long.
After refactoring them out as compressed files to disk storage (I love you, micro-services) and dropping them completely from the database, the backup size went from 90gb to 3gb!
It's not every day you get to see a dramatic result like that from a refactor.
Lesson learned, and yes it was quite cool.6 -
I really love to share my knowledge and I have a opportunity to teach kids coding as a lector. I even switched my f-ing theme to light for them so they can see the board (they're already saying light theme sucks, I love them). Maybe it's only html/css but they're learning so fast even though they're just bunch of 12-13yo Minecraft kids 😂 I'm myself only 17 but I can see the "age gap" between us, I'm getting old...11
-
Don't you just love cracking dev jokes and have that one special flower start with their:
"well, technically..."
followed by an explanation showing how much expertise in the field they've gathered over the years to be able to point out your joke is not 100% accurate.
Imagine them at a party.
- Knock knock
- Well, technically you wouldn't ASK who's there, statistically people would look first, but nice try13 -
Tell people you love them every day because you don't know when it will be the last time.
But more importantly, don't forget to "git push" every day, because you never know when your laptop is about to die, taking with him those last commits. RIP my friend.7 -
The biggest passion of them all, for me: music.
In my case this is rawstyle/raw hardstyle/hardstyle but especially the most brutal rawstyle.
I love the energy it gives me and to listen to the techniques the artists use and also that, after a while, while the kicks all sound the same for many people, immediately identify the artist behind a kick when even hearing it for the first time (90 percent accuracy).
I'd love to produce it but I lack the skill set to do that as for now 😥
A tattoo related to this music genre is coming soon :D9 -
In the spirit of true randomness, I like to speculate about aliens. What’s your favorite theory about them? Anything’s fair game: whether they actually exist, methods of propulsion, origins, exobiology, exopolitics, eyewitness reports by credible reporters (pilots, military, air traffic controllers, high-profile political leaders, etc.) whether abductions are real and, if so, why they do it, etc. If you’ve had an encounter, I’d love to hear about it.18
-
I love my girlfriend, but sometimes she doesn't get dev-work.
Last night, we had a fight over me sticking post-its to the wall in our home office. I find them helpful for keeping an overview of what I'm working on. She finds them ugly and decided to tear them all down without conferring with me. I got pissed. I almost always give in to her quirks and wants in every other aspect of how we live, so I feel like my desk space should at least be under my control. In my anger, I ordered her out of the room. She then proceeded to be sulking/angry with me up till and including this morning "because I overreacted".
Was I wrong? What should I have done differently?22 -
At my next job interview. "So, do you have your lpic or redhat certification in vigor?"
Me. "Better. I have these, motherfucker."
(They arrive a few days ago, but I couldn't show them till now. If you're living outside US and worries about if you can get your stickers, be sure you will. They made all their way to Spain, and had no trouble to receive them. Be patient, and eventually they'll arrive safely and beautiful.)2 -
So
I wrote a song
About devRant
Don't judge me
To the tune of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"
dfox and trogus
Had a very good idea
They worked on it
And out popped devRant
Then one foggy Friday night
They published it
It was an instant hit
Devs everywhere rejoyced
Now the devs love them
As they type out their rants
dfox and trogus
You'll go down in dev history!
(Like Linus Torvalds!)7 -
Yes, I love my parents.
But every fucking time I plan to buy a PC they will make some noise. I am not even touching their money to buy it yet they will make a fuss about it.
"All my son does is sit in front of computer whole day"
Sorry father but I am doing the same thing in my job. They are young enough to know what I am doing yet still keeps ranting on me.
I still love them but this is so annoying sometimes.6 -
* Go to sleep at reasonable times
* Watch some of those anime I never quite finished
* Read more books
* Become more proficient with rust
* Replace go with rust at work
* Setup a weeb media center I can remotely
* Finally make a personal webpage/blog without overthinking things, to actually get it done
* Find or make a storage solution for all the memes I sto- I mean collected, where I can add tags to find them more quickly. Would love to have them have the tagging be done automatically with machine learning, but I don't think we're quite there yet.2 -
If you haven't seen silicon valley... Do... For the love of God do.
And if you don't like it one... We will never get on, it's god damn hilarious ... Constantly
3rd time I've watched them all
It's perfect.10 -
Why is it that every time I tell someone I love programming the immediate question that follows is: "So you can hack?". And when I tell them that I can't, the conversation is over.1
-
A brief, and biased opinion of what love is in the dev world:
Love is my employees bringing me something to eat when they know I stay back so that they can all go out do whatever they can do.
Love is my CMS admin getting his ass up and walking all the way to my office when the director walks in to say some STUPID FUCKING SHIT to me that he(CMS Admin) knows would have me 2 fucking seconds away from getting out of my chair and drop kicking the fuck out of him.
Love is the rest of my employees getting up to follow along in case(certainly) one dude is not able to hold me down.
Love is them knowing that I know that their mere presence there will make me chill the fuck out and not choke the fucking director
Love is the CMS Admin proof reading every email I send to a bitch that was trying to get smart, to make sure that I was not being agressive.
Love is said CMS Admin bringing me coffee or a coke congratulating me on listening to him about X email not being aggressive (there is no passive in my vocabulary, just balls out "isn't this your fucking job" aggressive)
Love is my lead developer showing to work after medical treatment fucked up as all hell because he knows that if he is not there I will do a billion things myself in order to give him some rest.
Love is taking my CMS admin and lead dev out to eat when a major stakeholder shits on something I damn well know it took them a while to finish. Love is also letting me open up to said stakeholder to tell them how much of a fucktard they are, sometimes they let me loose, and I appreciate that.
Love is every small person in the company approaching you to tell you of their issues, becuase they care more about the productivity they give to their users, rather than the bullshit numbers their managers care about.
Love is the staff of other places taking care of you because you are not a VP dickhead that treats them like shit.
Love is the HR reps sending you personal e-mails asking you for help because their shitbag of a boss does not count for help and leaves them in the blank with shit software, for which said HR go above and beyond for you later on even though said shitbag manager said no.
Love is your team getting angry and responding respectfully at people when they talk shit about their manager on their emails (manager being me)
Love is your employees closing your door for you when they know you are overwhelmed and you need a quick second to pull yourself up.
Love is not wanting to leave this miserable place because you know some dickweed will be left in charge of the people that care for you, trust you, work for you regardless of the date, and confide in you.
They got me locked in, this shitty institution, for now. Until I find a way to bring my entire team with me.8 -
Don't you just love it when you're pitching new project ideas and there's always that one negative person that has to find something to complain about?
They literally said to me "But what if the user runs out of battery? that will make the application useless for them"
At this point it just feels like this person is turning down every idea for the sake of turning them down.9 -
I hate Google for invading the world's privacy and try to avoid or block their services wherever possible.
Still, I'd love to work for them.
Am I nuts? That's f-ing irrational...3 -
Had to sticker these 2 up. Lenovo was Win 10 and the HP was Ubuntu 16.04. Gave the Lenovo away cos my sis needed a new laptop asap for her work with many clients. Wherever she goes, those two stickers on the Lenovo will be spreading devRant greetings/love. Told her not to take them off. 😁3
-
When you're at school following a Java course and someone says: "So now we can add Java to our websites to make them more interactive".
Me: " *sigh* You mean Javascript not Ja... oh well nevermind. I would love to see you implement Java."7 -
You know when somebody complains about a bug in your software at a meeting to everybody, you go to their office, find out that the bug is actually an user problem, and then on the next meeting, when asked about the bug the person reports "we fixed it" and you correct them, explaining in detail how there was nothing to fix because the problem was completely user driven?
I love these moments2 -
Yay😊
The company I'm working at (as student developer) just told me that they would love to hire me full-time, when I'm done!
Love working here, so totally gonna take them up on that 😊14 -
hi there,
i always wanted to have "developer t-shirts" but never liked those cheesy shirts with slogans or jokes everyone of us heard a thousand times. i always wanted something more classy - which shows i'm a programmer but also looks stylish.
so i started to make some designs and have uploaded them to teespring. it's called "foobar apparel" and everything is about foobar.
since this is my first t-shirt campaign i would love your feedback - what do you think about them?
of course i'm happy if you like them and want to buy some - mine are already shipping :)
here's the links: https://teespring.com/stores/...
if this is not the right place to post this here, just delete it - sorry.7 -
When I read the rants here it's like people don't love their work or would rather not make their children be a developer someday.
Where's the Care Bears when you need them.
Come back to semi-darkness. Dev is fun!12 -
Here's my desktop setup running Ubuntu 18.10 with Gnome. Drop a screenshot of your desktop setup in the comment section, would love to see them!24
-
The down sides of living in a third world country, the prices of things { especially electronics } are so damn expensive. I love my country and all but hey this is really unaffordable.
To give you an idea, I work for 40 hours a week, four weeks a month and earn around 25,000 rupees.
Sometimes I just watch videos on YouTube of people building things and feel happy for them.14 -
I absolutely love Lambda expressions.
Except for when I didn't write them myself or they are not commented. -
For any keyboard lover like me: this little guys are the most valuable things in my setup. Ortholinear keyboards from http://olkb.com I can't recommend them enough. They are fully programmable and comes in kits for you to finish mounting. The red one is a planck and the other is a preonic.
I'm using dsa keycaps from pimpmykeyboard and the switches are gateron blues.
They just opened a new massdrop for the planck, these are already assembled and ready for use. Check it out at https://massdrop.com/buy/...
P.S.: I have nothing to do with the project and I'm not getting paid to post this. Just love them and want to spread the word. Hope someone love them as much as I do.15 -
ChatGPT4: if you liked getting "wireframes" from fuckwit sales people, you're going to love getting "code" from them.6
-
So I thought it would be cool to build UI/Screens for Flutter apps and put them out for the world to use. People are already using my designs in their apps and it just feels amazing. I am continuously adding new screens and widgets as and when I get time.
Feel free to fork and show some love: https://github.com/samarthagarwal/...3 -
Definitely a rant.
I mean you've gotta love how samsung does not allow you to remove facebook and its derivates: insta, whatsapp and some other junk. Yeah, it allows you to "disable" them. But today I found whatsapp running and consuming >50M of storage even though it was DISABLED
precious, ain't it..? Facebook is a system app.
...17 -
Don't you love it when you take a look at a company frontend React code and GraphQL queries and they say you are hacking them? 🤔🤦🏻♂🤣12
-
Rails console:
> `ModelOne.joins("ModelTwo")`
# => ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid (Mysql2::Error: Unknown table 'database_name.model_ones')
MariaDB:
> `select count(*) from database_name.model_ones`
# => 13274641
It's right there, ffs4 -
I mentor two profiles (started in their master first year), and for 3 years: taking them with me when I have a job change and applying ShuHaRi to teach them. They are my firsts mentorees in France, and they are finishing the course.
And I'm SO proud of them, they'll be leaving my side (changing job). And starting their own journey!!
They'll go to very good companies, for really good jobs/teams. I gave them tears and blood for 3 years and now they are riping the results of their perseverance, hard work and commitment.
It's one of the things that I love in my job. Being able to do that, and to see them grow it so cool!!
On the other hand, I'll lose have to replace them... And it'll be difficult for the company to find good profiles. And I'll start looking for a new mentoree to follow.2 -
gotta love them comments:
#TODO: move this,
#TODO: deprecated,
#TODO: fix this,
#TODO: DON'T DO THIS,
#TODO: refactor,
#TODO: CHANGE THIS
I shit you not6 -
I love beer. I like trying things out of my comfort zone. German and Belgian beers are absolutely delish, them mfkers know how to make a good brew. I also like my Japanese and Mexican beers, and even though europeans shit on them all the time, there are tons of American brands I love.
But......for the life of me.....every IPA I take tastes like fucking dishwater soap. From artisanal to regular market brands, everything in between. Fuck me man I can't stand the taste.
Anyone feels the same?24 -
When you face the dilemma of wanting to share devRant with your friends but face giving up your anonymity....also, what if you forget you ranted about them and they find out? Hmmm.....4
-
Installed Linux on a crappy laptop got many many errors. in the process of googling then fixing them I fell in love with the os itself and it turned me towards programming now we sit here me a game Dev major15
-
I love to write vanilla JavaScript questions, hand them to full stack devs during and interview and watch them struggle trying to explain what it’s doing. 😈16
-
Fuck the new ECMAScript 2018 specifications.
https://youtu.be/s-G_RZ4RJLU
I mean seriously? How the hell is dot syntax gonna make it more readable?
Also, i love the brackets, braces and semicolon. Hate to see them deprecated.
Almost gave me a heart attack and my head was boiling watching it.
😓😌6 -
Anyone else love how devRant has a dislike button? Really helps shoot down trolls without directly acknowledging and feeding into them. FB, Instagram, Twitter... take note3
-
First thing, I love my colleague. I know him for 15 years and I'm under 30. But I freaking hate when he picks his nose FOR ALL THE DAY LONG and uses shared mouses and keyboards, leaving them unable to use. I have to clean all that mess and no matter what we say he still do it. :(5
-
Don't you just love it when a customer reports a bug in their live system and it's really urgent to correct it; then you go out of your way to fix it ASAP and deploy it to the staging system for them to verify. Three weeks later the customer has still not tested the bugfix...1
-
I love doing crawlers to test stuff. Client wanted me to crawl his page for certain errors.... seems i ddossed them2
-
Here with my books just bought these new 8 monitors just to use them for my marketing analytics work, but do you know what i love more than these books and 8 monitors that i just bought for my marketing analytics work? My brand new lamborghini6

You know what's better then the Twilight love story (or any love story for that matter)?
The contract between an Indian client and an Indian Vendor. It's the perfect marriage!
Both hate each other, can't stop fucking each other, one pays money to the other and the other gives head to one, the underlings are always caught between who should be followed and both of them DONT LEAVE EACH OTHER ALONE!
happy married life, buggers.4 -
@dfox I would love to have a "save for later"/ bookmark feature. I am seeing so many great things here and I'd love to access them later. Maybe something you could implement some day?
Cheers mate!3 -
So I own a small business that is a licensee of about a few hundred other ones. I wanted a mail list from the corporate office and they wanted to charge me. (we already pay them hundreds if not thousands a month) So I wrote a python script to scrape their website and get the info for free. I love programming!3
-
I love learning new things, but as I don't use them usually, I forgot them over time. It makes me so sad.2
-
Learning mainly C# and Java in college, started coding js and python in my free time. I really do love them all!2
-
I decided to go freelance/contracting. Headhunters keep pitching me permament roles (and I love watching them run out of pitch lines :D )
Headhunter: This job can't do your asking salary, but can offer career development.
Me: Already did that. was Engineer, then Architect, then CTO. I'm actually stepping back to be an Engineer.
Headhunter: Ok well, in this job you can do things start to finish, see them through to the end.
Me: I actually get bored after a while. Prefer change.
Headhunter: Well this place has a great culture and fun atmosphere!
Me: It's an insurance company mate...2 -
First of all: FUCK MS WORD!!!
second: even tho I LOVE LaTeX, fuck LaTeX tables!!!
I mean, yeah, I am used to them, but maaaaaaaannn1 -
Who doesn't love bugs, we all love them, they provide the help needed to sleep, whether they were IRL bugs or program bugs2
-
Is it just me, or is the rants longing for stickers and balls (sounds vaguely euphemistic) becoming just a bit too common?
I love some good stickers as much as the next guy, but wouldn't it be more fun to have them for something more, well, rant-y?
But by all means, keep ranting about what you think about, I love all of it.3 -
Never had any doubt in my skills and have always judged them accordingly.
I am very....very...annoyingly confident (and in love with) myself.
This does not mean i do not acknowledge me fucking up and being wrong. It just means that even when I fuck up I learn from it, add it to my toolbelt and then continue to think that i am the bomb.
I don't compare my shit to others. I have never seem anyone effortlesly do anything, it is always the result of practice, passion, love and dedication and saying that it must be easy for them is an insult to them and their crafts.
I do not get jealous, nor do I feel smaller, i get pumped and motivated.3 -
For the love of all things sacred, put a damn space between your parentheses and whatever comes before/after them. It is totally not cool to read if(expression){}.
No, seriously, I mean that.11 -
DISCLAIMER: I'm not paid nor have I had any contact with any associates of the following software.
GET FUCKING VIVALDI!!!
This Browser has DAMN NICE MOUSE GESTURES!
You do them while holding right click.
For example right click held and swipe/moving the mouse to the left/right brings you backward/forward.
There are several others and you can make them by your self.
Just browsing anything. IT'S FUCKING DAMN FAST.
INSTALL VIVALDI AND ENABLE MOUSE GESTURES! After aprox 3 Days you won't want to have any other browser anymore.
(Could've just simply said that I love the browser because of that feature. But this is DevRANT!)14 -
I love how odd very intelligent things can (seem to) be. Cryptography is incredibly complex, and the reason the computer was created in the first place. But that doesn't stop them from being all
"Heyyyy, y'all got any of them P R I M E N U M B E R S? We like em BIG, we'll paaaaay"3 -
So, these guys came to me at work, asking if I knew how the "Low Orbit Scanner" worked...
I said: "no, what's that?"
They said: "It's that tool used for DDoS attacks"
So I replied: "Oh you mean Low Orbit Ion Cannon"
them: "yea that, you know how it works?"
me: "ye, but what do you want to use it for?"
them: "just want to learn how it works"
me: "you download it, run it then fill out the things?"
them: "but I tried it and it doesn't take out the server I tried"
me: "Means your PC is to much of a filthy casual, buy a new one"
them: "can't you help us getting it more effective"
me: "yes, but I rather not end up in jail... I have a job and a clean document..."
The looks of their faces, love to see that disappointment of my colleagues when I say (or atleast hint): "go figure it out yourself"1 -
I love, love, LOVE Unity Engine!!!
Great tutorials, good documentation, helpful community, easy to understand interface...
It's all just... so beautiful.
I swear to god that I'm not shilling for them, I'm just so happy that, as a generally lazy SOB, I've been working for about 10+ hours now in one sitting, and I'm still not bored or frustrated that I don't get something.
God bless you Unity, I might actually make something outta myself...maybe...someday.8 -
My dissertation at university was to analyse chat logs of pedophiles in the hope that the application of a density metric could flag up both explicit chats between parties (which it did very well) and more importantly flag up potential on going grooming (it was a bit hit or miss) I love telling people about this because it freaks them out2
-
Last year I had to program most of my projects in Python. I like the language, don't get me wrong. But man oh man if you indent your line of code one too many fucking times, it can be such a pain in the ass to find your error...
Even if it may clutter your code (not in my opinion), that's why I love them curly brackets and languages which use them <39 -
Why apple is a peice of shit..? Why even people love it.. It makes apple to grow more.. Although they don't deserve it.. They don't deserve the trillion dollars.. Why don't they fuck them self..
In a year they release a peice of shit and people are like applauding on it.
Are you fucking serious people?
The people who called as "apple fanboy" please go fuck yourself.. Tell me one reason to love apple..
I am not talking about the price issue. I am talking about they think that they are the best.. But no they are not. They are a bunch of asshole who are working to make money.. They don't need to respect.26 -
Thanks everyone for showing love towards devRant community! Special thanks to those who shared their desk setup pictures with all :) Some of them were really unique and some of them were simple & sweet. If you haven't already then share your desk setup with tag "mydesk" 🙌🏼 Happy Ranting 🤗4

How comes that people can write such fucking shitty code?
Because I mean, why the hell would I want a progress indicator while the form is loading?
Actually, let's just not disable the form while it's loading. Let the user get mad when it's data's overwritten.
And best of all. Let's use inconsistent naming and fucking metadata tables so that we don't have any structure and make queries slow.
Yes. I fucking love incompetent consultants. Fucking love them. Good thing he never got hired...2 -
I can't understand the people who are in love with Qt. Did you ever actually use it?
It has shitty UI components (compare them with Microsoft WPF or even WinForms), and it is fucking full of bugs. Really. I've never seen that many bugs in other frameworks.
I'm a Linux guy, but try .net if you want to see what a great framework is actually like.4 -
I don't understand why people use Float in CSS. I love to use Flexbox I think I use them too even.
For example:
I want to write some text.. Flexbox
I want to add a image and some text below... Hum Flexbox!!
So I can consider myself a Flexbox.14 -
I'm sending my love to all the millions of people out there suffering in silence, ones with unfathomable trauma and pain, all fighting battles known to none. I respect those who decided to end it all rather than to keep waiting for help that will never come to them.

• Learn new things!
• Continue my programming projects (mostly C#), and eventually publish them!
• Create more programming side-projects!
• Create more music, of various genres, and finish unfinished tracks! (I love music 💙)
• Buy a violin, or another instrument! (I already play harpsichord and piano, and I love them both)
• Buy a new PC setup! (maybe?)
• Get a driver's license!
• Create more music sheets!
• Create more custom maps, on rhythm games! (like osu! or Cytus / Cytunity)
• Make new friends, and meet with my older ones more!
• Go to places, new and old!
• Open myself more to others! (I'm kinda shy)
• Do my university's exams, properly!
• Do my conservatory's exams, also properly!
• Try drawing!
• Try all sorts of new things!
• Get a cat into the family! (I love cats, but I never got one because I don't know how to raise them, yet)
• Be more confident about myself!
And... yeah, I guess that's it :D
What about you?
Have a happy 2019, everyone! 💙2 -
I hate HTML forms. Fucking hate them.
They're semantic so folk use them to group related inputs.
But they're also functional if you're not just typing something in and pushing enter to send it to a server, you have to override every. fucking. event.
Semantic _or_ functional is fine, but for the love of all that is holy, not both. I hate this.14 -
I'm curious .... Devs seem to love quotes that try to give you some profound wisdom
Personally I don't care for them kind of like reading cards but id like to know if you guys have any 🤔
Mainly what you think of when you need to get things done what keeps you driven7 -
So there is a 50/50 chance I am getting flamed af tomorrow during code review because of my branching/merging actions on thursday and friday... Merge conflicts... We all love them...3
-
For the love of the almighty, merciful God, fuck IBM until their company is brought down in ruins! May the earth they worked at be salted, and may they be struck from all records! May the families who speak of sons or daughters who work there be stripped of their status in life, begging in the streets!
May nobody be allowed to list them on resumes! May nobody be allowed to work for them! May they be a blight, hidden like the dirtiest porn magazines!
May mother's weep when children apply to them! May father's disown!
May managers avoid them! May they be scoffed at like the fools of old!
Oh how the mighty have fallen! The scholars brought low! May they repent before the day of judgement! May the change their ways! May they weep with sackcloth before the world, begging to be spared!
Fuck them! If you can't tell, I am pissed off!3 -
They all think I'm a hacker.
My parents have no clue about what I do.
My wife is starting to understand (at least she knows I make web pages 90% of the time I'm working), but still doesn't get close to see the full picture.
Btw, they are all very supportive and I love them for that :-) -
I'm a developer, but also a father of 2 kids. I love spending time with them, but sometimes I also like to work on my side projects. And besides that, after a long day of work, even if I have spare time, I also like to lay down on the couch and watch Netflix.
How do you other full time developer / parents out there cope with your own personal projects?9 -
As much as I love developing I have been also enjoying pentesting a lot lately.
So if you have any resources for a beginner to share please link them in the comments :)3 -
I FUCKING love it when I try to understand how to simply fucking connect to my server via SSH, and seeing tutorials from cocksuckers that just screen some form fields without telling where I can find them, and juping from steps to steps like I'm in your fucking head
CAN'T YOU WRITE SOMETHING THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE, YOU FUCKING MORON???3 -
Are any of you guys colourblind?
If yes, I would love to know if you encounter any issues due to it, and how you deal with them.5 -
While I'm not a dev, I do love computers and I do know my way around them, so friends/family often ask me for tech support.
Friend: Please fix my computer!
Me: what's wrong with it?
Friend: *sends me pic of blue screen of death*
Me: ...
Me: I don't think you understand -
Whatsapp REALLY needs a feature to silence the notifications for messages that are image only!
I'm now stuck having to communicate with a group for work so I had to un-silence it's notifications but I get sent 100+ memes and videos a day by EVERYONE else.
As much as I love them if I have to stop coding to check my phone only to find a fucking meme one more time I think I'm gonna snap...3 -
Finally switching to single boot linux. I had to keep my double boot windows because I needed it for few classes in school.
I passed all of them (at least I think so)
I love the purity of clean install after chaotic setup.1 -
Some people have interesting, cool or exciting lives and I know u are fascinated by them... U may even fall in love . but do remember that u r an insignificant troll who is good at doing one complicated job and whose significance cannot be comprehended, appreciated or understood by the said fascinating people. So go back to your cave do the shit u usually do coz u have a deadline to meet.
-the voice inside my head4 -
My first year lecturers in university. They were always passionate about their jobs and programming as a whole that it rubbed off on me. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be staying up all hours working on projects while there are assignments due. My love of what I do stems from them and I would love to inspire at least one person like they did with me.
-
i love chromebooks, but i wish they built them with more storage. i know that everything by google is based on the cloud and shit so most chromebooks only have like 4gb of storage but if there was a chromebook with 256gb id be in heaven. does anyone else think chromebooks look really nice compared to other laptops?4
-
I think it is so sad you can't use your devRant icon on other sites. I know you could download them but the whole point is anonymous ranting so if someone know your picture they know who you are. I love the devRant icons <33
-
I love VSCode Insiders. The daily builds (today there were already 3 of them) are coming fast as hell and always with cool new features. (new workspace handling, multiple source control providers simultaneously, TypeScript 2.5.2,...). Great job, MS.1
-
I love what’s going going on with GameStop...
Once again we are witnessing the power of the internet bringing average people together and give them power to change the “untouchable” system..5 -
Working on a project with tests is so nice.
I love tests. Well, I hate making them, but now refactoring is so easy :] -
I got travel advertisments on my Windows 10 lock screen. I didn't remember how to get rid of them, so I had to search for it again. I was lead to this piece of fine irony on my screen.
Staring at it felt like staring at the concept of art while it's staring back. This experience left me emotional.
Thank you Microsoft and Windows Central. Thank you art, life, and love. Thank you ads.5 -
Passed out college this year...
Got a job too (lucky 😀)
Now all juniors are asking me how to prepare for placements... N keeps asking my resume..
And m saying everyone same stuff.. DS and algo is must.. n chk my LinkedIn for resume..
Soon, seems like m gonna tell them join devRant first and then I will say further..
Note: Placement starts in few weeks and they care now on how to prepare for it.. Folks say it's better to start late than never.. but still.. I wud love to help them but asking same questions repeatedly not gonna help them..1 -
Kindergarden teacher... have 3 kids myself, love to teach them stuff and do activities with them. Kids between 2 and 6 are great. They can already tell you what they need but are not yet under the pressure to perform in a competitive school system. They're the most authentic human beings imho.
Other than that, maybe something in academia. Holding lectures can be huge fun if you got at least a few motivated students. -
I love Slack because people say all sorts of things and then forget.
So resharing the direct link to a Slack conversation is a passive aggressive way to tell them off.
The second passive aggressive thing is making an animated gif of where that conversation took place.1 -
I love them shitty scammy singles dating ads.
"Hot Single Volcanos Are Looking For Dates In Your Area."
And
"once you play this game, your friends won't be seeing much of you!"
Also merry chrysler!3 -
What I absolutely love to do is refactoring. With strongly typed languages, I often just remove or change something and then follow the compiler errors to finish the refactoring by fixing them.
It‘s not just a matter of renaming something. I will reliably get all the places in code which are affected by the change.
How do you handle that with weakly typed languages like JS? I can only imagine how horrible of an experience refactoring would be.7 -
When you are developer and love video games,in your day making a balance between them is very difficult
-
I was never a big fan of Github to be used within a company. So about 3 years ago where I used to work I implemented all the tools from Atlassian. Like litteraly all of them. And first I was stunned of the possibilities I had with Jira, Confluence, Bamboo and Bitbucket! But while self-hosting all thoose services you always felt, that Atlassian just bought all thoose companies and "threw them together"
BUT with newest features of Gitlab, I think they outperformed everyone! I absolutely love what they offer, even as a free service. They integrate all features in one product where you would otherwise relay on different products.
Whats important to you when it comes to VCS?3 -
A toss up between Apple and Microsoft...
Apple I use to love because I used an iPhone exclusively and loved iOS but the more and more I moved into the cloud. The more and more I started hating the lack of online tools like word processing and the like so eventually led me to disliking them but now I hate them exclusively because of there hardware fragmentation, the lack of consistency between there hardware really irritates me...
And Microsoft came from in an instant, I use to love windows and use it exclusively but as soon as I discovered Linux and got my first taste of it through Ubuntu I started hating windows compared to Linux but now I hate the company because of their two faced ways, will state they support the open source community yet only throw actual support when they clearly can't be beaten and give in...
(Can feel the hate coming my way so all good!)3 -
I can fucking believe this is still the norm.
Micro selection borders for window / panel
sizing are the worst, please for the love of
god, MAKE THEM THICCer.
No need to make them visually wider,
just let me select it more easily, PLEASE.4 -
I would love to get into more frameworks, but half of them make 90% of your work harder, are not documented well enough or are just confusing what they actually offer. 😥1
-
I just love how companies would go to any length to motivate you to work more!
As long as it doesn't cost them more than peanuts..13 -
I hate it when apps I enjoy get no love or updates after being acquired by a bigger company. Why did you buy them in the first place? Skitch still cannot support Unicode cause Evernote doesn't care :-(3
-
>ooo new thing to play with and learn, yay!
>*Installs using directions*
>Hello world program fails
>Oh I need these dependencies
>Wait the deps all need their own deps...
>But one of them is deprecated.. what do?
I love the feeling of working on something new but
I hate ending up spending more time getting a workflow setup and chasing down random bugs or hacky fixes just to get something stable so I can start working!!!1 -
Happy days, yesterday we updated form 16.3 to 16.4 and thanks to them fixing the bug in 'getDerivedStateFromProps' my broken code is now breaking.
Don't you just love it when features inadvertently depend on bugs. The entire component ONLY worked properly because of a react bug.3 -
The person who invented powerpoint and those who use it/love it should be skinned alive.
FUCKING SHIT OF A PRODUCT.
On the other side, instead of torturing someone to death, force them to use Power point for 2 hours a day and that will be enough for the person to beg you to kill them.
Join me in this journey against power point.20 -
I think up dumb shit too. I should be a CEO...
https://msn.com/en-us/news/...
Logitech is my favorite mouse vendor. This is a stain on their reputation. This and the AI shit they are marketing. Why the fuck do companies ruin their products? I actively avoid subscriptions and companies that offer them.12 -
Cars
I love classic cars because of their simplicity.
I don’t want to remove dozens parts, need computer or call support to fix simple car problem.
Mechanical solutions were good and reliable in some of the old cars so we can still renovate them and use them after 50-60 years, we won’t be able to do it with modern cars so we are in fact producing lots of waste.
Today’s car companies are ripping off their customers by providing overcomplicated solutions that prevent customers to repair a car on their own.
And don’t let me start about proprietary car software and protocols.
That’s a big world problem right now. -
Books. I love them, I buy them, where ever I go. My favorites are the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett, but I will read any sci-fi/fantasy-styled book I come across. I would attach an image, but my phone's camera is pretty shitty, so just imagine some shelfs filled with books.
Music is imortant to me too. There will always be music playing when I'm around. I'm trying to make some myself. It's not that good but still fun. I am also a collector of vinyl records.
And then there are games of course, because sitting at a pc just for coding is not enough :D3 -
That sad sad feeling of deleting my devrant account, because a pesky co-worker somehow discovered my alter ego on the Internet.
I don't necessarily want them to know some of the things I have said in the past. I don't regret said things, I needed to get them off my chest. It is just this person is ... what do you call them? Oh yes, a Snitch! I could see bad things happening if what I said got into the wrong hands.
Any who good to be back, I love this community.8 -
Blender! Simply because they are well organized (they even use a public kanban board in phabricator 😊) and are improving the project with so much passion. Also they use the software themselves in projects on a regular basis so they know very well what has to be improved.
Exciting for blender 2.8 😁 show them some love: www.blender.org -
Asciidoc! I finally got around to play around with it and it is just so awesome! Best tool for documentation hands down! So many improvements over Markdown:
- importing real code snippets based on tags with syntax highlighting and annotations (which can be also auto numbered with "<.>" instead of "<1>"!)
- Admotions! Love them!
- automatic TOC! Finally!!
- joining a child item to a parent item in a list with "+" in a new line (this one took me a while to understand, but no more offset items in lists! Love it!)
- making tables and loading data from an actual CSV-file! The future is now!!
- embedding images with a fixed size
Just a few things from the top of my head. I don't know why I put up with vanilla Markdown all these years...
Last but not least, a big THANK YOU to everyone who recommended Asciidoc! I accidentally stumbled across multiple mentions of Asciidoc a few months ago. Sorry, but you know who you are! Much love to you and your loved ones! You changed my life for the better. Thank you! -
Thank you very much for the stickers. I really love 'em.
I even removed some jet brains stickers for them.
I like how it now looks like my git cat is ranting! -
I love when large corporations care about my friends' security. Especially when gmail protects them against project related *.jar files I try to send them...
-
My boss just adds issues on issues. I love closing them at midnight and he adds the same issues again on the next day. I think he has issues.2
-
Just out of curiosity how many different countries are on this? Could you comment below? (And please for the love of god don't ++ this, save your upvotes for someone who deserves them, like that dude with the percentage happiness table)54

WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO RANDOM PEOPLE WRITE ME UP ON DISCORD TO HELP THEM WITH THEIR DEVELOPMENT ISSUES. I AM OPEN TO HELP BUT I AM NOT A FUCKING CODING SERVICE.9

My laptop now includes a DevRant sticker!
If you also have stickers on your laptop I would love to see them. Share photos of your laptops in the comments! :-)8 -
Attended a game workshop session by Mark Skaggs, creator of Farmville. At one point he asked all the programmers to raise their hands. I love to code even though i aint an expert in backend db related code. I raised my hand. Then he asked all the designers to raise their hand. I love to graphic design as a hobby even though i aint an artist. I raised my hand again.
He noticed and said "Interesting..."
It made me question which trade i should focus more on. I still have years ahead to master them but should i give up one for the other?
Would be cool to hear your thoughts on this!4 -
Don't you just love it when a client turns around at this time of year and tells you that there is a new project and it's due by the middle of January!
And then they tell you the specs... Wait... What? How? Ummm... So you want a test app that is basically a fully working product that would take months to build ready in 15-20 days.
I'd rather drag my balls along sandpaper and dip them in vinegar...2 -
A big part of my frustration as a programmer is that I don't have a lot of friends that are on a similar level that are willing to let me bounce ideas off of them. The last few years I've been flying blind with no external frame of reference except for the few really beginner dev friends that I have.
Where do you people socialize? IRC has long been... well, kinda dead compared to how it was 15 years ago or before. I have ideas that I'd love to discuss with others in the same sphere of interests but simply cannot find them.
Frustrating.5 -
Love it when I try to find a free Web hosting to do a little testing online... But All of them have a broken PhpMyAdmin panel. >.<12
-
C# has static binding by default. Meaning methods aren't overrideable unless you specifically tag them as virtual. I love how in java you can take someone else's random class and override everything with some additional or alternate behaviour.13
-
Day 3 of devWholesome...
Go tell a loved one you love them! Give them a hug, call them, text them, etc. Its always great to give love to the ones closest to you. Try and spend some time with them! Again make sure you are eating your meals and drinking your water (maybe with your family?) as well as taking care of yourself and keeping yourself from stress. And as always, make the most out of your day!
Note: If you want to see any devWholesome posts, you can look at all of them by looking up the devwholesome tag!1 -
@dfox I got them. They're so cool! Love them! Thank you very much! Dunno what Tim's username so I couldn't tag him.1
-
One thing that i found in common among most of rants was devs getting annoyed by people who interrupt them while coding, obviously it's because we love what we do while in most jobs they wish for someone interrupting them so they can stop working for a while
-
An arrogant and rich girl called "Microsoft" daughter of billionaire Bill Gates finally cut her arrogance and confessed her love to that guy "Linux" who were always at a small corner while everybody is giving him stairs of negligence and fear at the same time because he was spacial, thanks to his loyal friends and family he grows up to be a hell of a boy, sexy, stylish, very attractive and yet very strong to a point "Microsoft" couldn't resist anymore and shout out her love in public, will Microsoft and Linux get along and live happily? or the differences in point of views will shatter them apart again?..... to be continued8
-
I got their financial support to pursue higher education in CS and move abroad.
However, I've never really got their constant emotional support. Each decision I was taking, I always had to prove myself, which can be tiring and unmotivating, since I'm expecting uncoditional love and support from my parents, not an interview and a selling pitch for myself every time I tell them something1 -
I love learning by doing.
Building MVPs and prototypes is the best way. Even better if you have a chance to show and share them in front of an audience (peer pressure can be good!).
Share the lessons you've learned and what you've done wrong, it will help many more people than just yourself.
I've been working for an eLearning company for the last 4 years (CloudAcademy.com) and I'm in love with the idea of learning something new every day. And not just coding. Code is "only" a tool to solve problems, and learning something about those problems and fields will make you a better developer. -
I love robots and I so-fucking-much love working with them... But for some reason, which may very well be exhaustion, I am not looking forward to tomorrow and writing ROS services for the currently packaged stuff.
*sigh*1 -
Fuuuuu rtl languages!!
I love them, they look fancy, true.. but are a total nightmare to select text. My stüpid brain will never get it right on the first try..or second or... :/2 -
I love the whole NodeSchool thing, so not really a dis to them - but this is a good example of some of the problems I have with web tutorials. I think things like npm should be explained before you have someone use them. Just like jQuery, you can end up with a majority of people taking parts of their stack for granted.1
-
I love that it takes Google forcing apps to be using more recent SDK's for them to update there own bloody apps that have been using deprecated SDK's and libraries for years...2
-
I dont think Why sometimes I feel lost with errors and hate developing and sometimes kill them and love being a Dev
-
I dunno if any of my choices have been "bad". Humans are great at explaining things to themselves to feel better. Narratives is our strength and we love them.
In hindsight everything seems to be a correct choice and kinda makes sense. For everything else is just a lesson to learn from.2 -
I love C and C++ but their dependency management stuck, there’s a package manager for them which offers a nice experience comparable to Go or Rust?4
-
I give a draft version of my report to my colleagues so they can review it with things to add or correct while I eat. One of them:
"This report is really well structured. I think there's nothing more to add. Good job!"
I think the finishing touch consisting of "[...]" here and there had him fall in love with it. -
Who remember these clips and relation between them?
https://youtube.com/watch/...
https://youtube.com/watch/...
I just love these videos for that... I really miss that time.4 -
I love Microsoft softwares and Apple hardware but I try to keep them away from me to prefer free softwares or at least MIT license things.
That's something that makes me feel guilty.4 -
For the fucking love of God, a client is too lazy to adapt his CI Tools to support latest Ionic that he wants us to rewrite the WHOLE WEB APP in Angular1, just to support their legacy JBOSS + Maven build process. Fucking fortunately, no adjustments on the timeline.
If I only know the names of those lazy fucks, I'll put them on the Death Note.1 -
2am, saving to post later because limit
I want to see a cartoon about a rabbit 🐰 and a frog 🐸 hating each other and constantly fighting over who’s a better jumper and they enter a jumping competition that is very tough for both of them and they somehow begin respecting each other over time
I love froggos. I want a pet froggo 🐸4 -
Auto-discovery licensing servers are the best invention since sliced bread.
Whenever a product company provides them I just automatically love their product for it. -
One advantage of JWT that I never realized: session tokens are stored client side, saving network calls to validate them.
Very cool. Love it.3 -
Vim + Tmux = Heaven. I love it.
I'm also getting better at the hotkeys (and there are A LOT of them) so it's a really nice experience when you can do things faster than using a IDE. I only missed the auto complete, so it's very very hard sometimes (DB connection for example).
I may look crazy for going back on time using it but it's so good i can't stop.2 -
I love Mikrotik. Just fucking love them. I also love my residential fiber service. Small company. Synchronous 125M service. No caps. Bandwidth is always there.
BUT... They use PPPOE (seriously guys?), and the IP changes on *every single re-connect*. Also: no IPv6 support. I know. I don't need it. But I want it.
Enter DNSMadeEasy's DDNS, Hurricane Electric's 6to4 tunnel service, and my Routerboard AH100x4. I wrote a script that runs on the router whenever my IP changes. It updates my DDNS record, updates my 6to4 tunnel IP using HE's API, and updates my local 6to4 interface's IP.
It just works. My public IPv4 may change, but the /48 IPv6 networks on my LAN side stay fully routeable.4 -
SO . . . my laptop just decided to no longer be a computer. And while I love boxes that have stickers on them and offer nothing else in terms of functionality, I should probably be able to code. And watch cat videos on YouTube. So . . . anyone ever bought a refurbished computer on Groupon?6
-
Ok let's get our hate and love out for the 3 main OS types, tell us why you hate or love each of them.
Windows: I hate its lack of customisation, colours and wallpapers only go so far, and how fucking bloated it is and how little you can do about it.
Linux: it's open, free, and pretty much a sandbox for changes and is lightweight, plus if you don't like something about it, remove it, whats not to love!
MacOS: I love it because it just works and could also run on a potato (yeah I said it, fight me) and it's just a very good looking is with fluid animations and simplicity.
Now, don't be hating on people's opinions here so keep it civil :-P13 -
Feature request: a way to ignore users so their rants don't appear in my feed. Some of the frequent ranters, while very popular on here, really rubs me the wrong way, and I'd love to be able to filter them out4
-
Yesterday : I hate everyone in Microsoft that works on this funding visual studio that now crashing every time I open my project 😤I'm going to kill them
Today : Wait... What is this? A new update? Solution now open without crashing! OH I LOVE MICROSOFT especially visual studio team 😘💗4 -
been about two weeks since my rust journey begin, and i've got to say, i love it. web frameworks with static type checking; amazing, standardised package manager; what a breeze, and macros; despite stating that i don't really see them as useful in earlier posts, they are really helpful. as well, in response to the slow "cold-start" build times, it's the price to pay for top-of-the-line compilation-time error checking. rust is amazing)3
-
Anyone of you use Jetbrains IDE‘s? I love them but sometimes, they have weird bugs and it just triggers me everytime so hard, I could take my Computer and throw it out the window.11
-
Okay govs and schools should stop this robotic production by forcing children to learn coding since an early age of 10. It's ridiculous !
Not only are you not giving a shit about whether they are interested or not, you are saturating an already saturated industry. Moreover, you are encouraging young children to sit all day in front of a screen when they should be playing, doing and learning other things.
Let them discover the subject. Let them fall in love with programming and coding. Don't force it onto them...4 -
Working as a junior dev with Js, moment.js, php and MySQL dates and trying make them respect (not love) each other and talk to each other nicely...
OH GOD WHY AM I DOING THIS MYSELF, JUST DIE IN MY SLEEP ALREADY, MY MOTHER TOLD ME I SHOULD BE A DOCTOR1 -
I love Java, but whoever thought the set of Big numbers were a good idea, fuck them! My co-workers starting using them, setting a precedent. I tried to compare it to 0, the value was 0.00. totally different!(according to the BigFloat in Java)
-
I would love to build apartment buildings and sell them.
but ofcourse id need a lot of money to start such a thing. hey what if i work as a dev for a while so i could afford that.
years and years later... var_dump($bug) -
Noise!!!
I guess that is bound to happen when working in an open space.
People at my team love playing music from the computer speakers and talk loud. I moved to another corner of the office where people are not playing music aloud and talking less passionately :)
I bought noise canceling headphone, but i figured i don't like to put them on for a long time.1 -

Finally came to the point, using mocha, jshint together with Travis CI for some of our coding projects and I freaking love it 👍🏻
rant
But now I have to teach my colleagues, because some of them didn't use it before either (We are mostly a team of students, if you come to the point 'How can you not know about travis and mocha')1 -
I love how all foreign people around this floating piece of shithole rock in the middle of nothingness always get flabbergasted when i tell them i earn $3.75 an hour as a software engineer with computer science degree. Trust me I'm flabbergasted beyond you
Garbage collector, toilet shit cleaner, waiter, barber, mcdonalds worker, all of them earn way more than me, as a software engineer with computer science degree27 -
Do you know why PHP will survive? Here is my observation.
Most of my clients who wants helps have their sites either on Wordpress or Magento or other free PHP cms.
The background is, they install the whole site all by them self and by the end of month, the Wordpress dashboard is loaded with massive plugins and yellow / red warning messages.
Same case with Magento and other CMS alike.
There site get heavy and they realized that they are in deep shit.
Just like some people take medicine all by them-self or by doing google. Until things gets into serious trouble.
and so the conclusion php will survive.
love to hear opinions on that.8 -
Don't ya just love it when someone you work with is constantly asking you to do stuff. Even though you literally ask nothing of them. Can't say no though because then they throw a gigantic 11 year old temper tantrum..1

Thread about Quality Analysts/Testers!
I've seen that Managers and HR get a lot of shit thrown their way but I'm surprised to see no love for our QA friends
What was your worst experience with a QA/Software Tester? When was the last time you felt like punching your monitor over an argument with them?
If you're a QA, what has been your worst experience with developers?6 -
I hate Windows and I hate Dell.
Apple fucking extorts you but at least it fucking works. macOS works, great UI, unix-like, NO FUCKING INTRUSIVE UPDATES
Did your mac break? We'll replaced, no problem.
Fuck, some company should try to be serious competition to Apple. I'd love to see that day, but untill them I unfortunately have to come back to apple, again and again. Fucking shit.16 -
Some days I hate my work - other days I love it. Usually what happens is I make some poor decision that I have to live with and get super angry with myself, feel my colleagues are disappointed, go home, feel sad, sleep, go back, talk to them about it and try to learn from my mistakes - and then I'm back at loving work. Repeat. Software development is so much more than writing code.
-
During the last days I got criticized by a fellow student, why I love 'error prone software'... He means git, mkdocs, latex etc. - I love them!
Does anyone of you really prefer svn over git?6 -
The training courses I am currently writing for work. I just love learning stuff, and sharing that knowledge. It's a lot of work though.
It's actually really strange. I am a real introvert, and hate every human, but I love to stand in front of a dozen people and train them...3 -
How to get on the ultimate coding-zone? Easy...
Game Of Thrones music soundtracks. I really love the songs of the series... I can hear them for a full day every day...2 -
Phps love of nested arrays is similar to that of structured programing and goto statements. You will do a lot of backtracking in both of them to see where things start. God bless PHP.3
-
I personally hate coding bootcamps or their equivalent. They tend to produce poor developers who I have to clean up after or hold the hand of. Business people love them because they are cheap.
-
Recruiter: Hi I have a position I feel you would love! My client wants a graduate developer with a couple of years experience in full stack development, javascript, sql and the whole .Net package.
Me: And this is a graduate position?
Recruiter: yes but I have put some people forward and they haven't had enough experience.
... Good luck to that company trying to find a developer who can do everything and pay them almost nothing. -
I love C# but it almost seems to reward foreach abuse and object orientation overkill. (And that VS designer.cs files are auto generated and blow out any changes you make in them)3
-
I just LOVE (hate) watching people click on the ad link to YouTube that's not actually YouTube and then call me over to get them out of the spam site.1
-
I fucking love working for nothing.
Spent 2 hours deleting fields and recreating them because a stupid client wanted so, aaand it got deleted by a git merge. Nice.
Can't wait to out of here. -
got my Devrant stickers!!!
attached them to the PC case I decided I'll be keeping for the rest of my life (I just love this case). Ended up super gluing part of the big sticker to my desktop.2 -

I love the fact that there are now toys that I can get my kids and young family members to get them to program early and maybe understand a bit what I do. I so wish that existed when I was a kid- stuff even easier than Logo.

WHY THE FUCK EVERY DAY YOU SEND A NOTE TO THE CLIENT TO TELL THEM A SQL SERVER JOB RAN.....!?!?!?!?!?!?
Seriously....no automatic messaging....FROM THE FUCKING IN BUILT SERVICE...the fuck is this manual life that people love to promote. -
Have you ever loved (or admired) a company because of the quality of their branding but never used (or tend to use) their products?
In my case is JetBrains... beautiful company website, UI of IDEs, etc., but I find them unhandy.
It's strange because I follow them on socials, read news about them, etc., as if I was excited about them, but never actually use them... a platonic love. Am I crazy??20 -
I created a repository of react components for bulma, I am pretty happy with the result. Would love to know what people think. The docs and examples here https://grufffta.github.io/react-bu... if you could call them that
-
No I love them all equally... 😂😂😂😂 ... Ok they are mostly all shit , with security holes, features that don't exist but should, terrible docs .... The worst ones , mainly by Microsoft ie, windows 10 updates , windows servers.... But apple ... Fuck them ... Google .... Manipulating barstards ....
There is good software just you usually have to go through the shit to get them, I mean people normally use ie through lack of knowledge , so educate! -
Post Mortem: Yarn Workspaces
So yarn workspaces are fucken sick, i love them. As long as you don't want to deploy your shit, because your api most certainly needs node_modules, your vue frontend doesn't... -
Gotta love when smartass clients claim that the feature you are selling them should've been part of the package you sold them intead of an addon.
Yeah. Like they never heard of a software updates before.3 -
All designers and developers are secretly in love with cookie banners and other kinds of popups, as long as they distract users, obscure content and contain a lot of text that is hard to understand.
We must love to deceive our users and make them click a primary call to action button to make sure that they are fine with bypassing anything that privacy laws have been made for in the first place.
Or where are the best practice examples, code snippets and plugins do find a better way by default? Any commercial website will sooner or later require some kind of cookie banner and that's the whole point of contemporary web design.3 -
Although I don't like facebook from various points of views (policies, etc) (still I use it with disabled platform and many other settings) I like most of their developer oriented projects. Graphql being one of them.
Likewise talking about microsoft I have grown to love vscode and language server protocol (which I find too awesome!!)
What's your rant about similar companies? -
Lua and its goddamn metatables. I love the crap out of lua and its syntax, and metatables are really important, but setting them up is unbelievably confusing.1
-
Today I wrote my first small python application as an exercise:
Scraping all post EuroJackpot draws from a website, save them in a database, sort them, some checks and do some combinations. Everything quite clean in classes and functions.
And the "application" is just 100 lines big. I love it so far how much can be accomplished with just a few lines. -
It seems to me that we all keep posting the same images (normally geeky tech humour) or how programmers are seen by others etc... would it be useful to have an image gallery on devRant so that we can all post into it, lets face it we all love to see them. might stop the same images being posted over and over again .... Would have to be moderated though !
what do you think @dfox ?? -
Don't you love it when your in a class, let's say a Web Dev 1 class at a community college, and your surrounded by classmates that are completely computer illiterate and have to help them every step of the way, including reminding them what git clone does10
-
Hearing a lot about Microsoft trying to acquire Github here on devRant.
Made me think, if this happens what will happen to atom?
Development will likely continue but then you would have two electron based, open source code editors both by Microsoft and Github. Probably not that much different from now, but still feels awkward...
Any thoughts? I love both editors and use them near daily. I just hope Atom was more performant and as actively developed as vscode.10 -
Best: Getting really close to my team and having good times with them as well as having a client love their website so much they sent me gifts and a really nice note.
Worst: Rude client who treated me like shit, made my job 103837xs harder and made me want to cry, scream and not want to come in to work ever again.1 -
I love it when someone wants you to troubleshoot an issue but will not give you a test user account to test with. So you have to sit with a user or talk with them over the phone while you troubleshoot. I'm literally elbows deep in the code and database, but you won't give me an account for security reasons. Ok, that makes complete sense.
-
Two of my colleagues (one of them is my best friend since school)
Who lead me into quitting my shitty job I don't have fun or any passion for it and giving me a opportunity in their company to start over.
One of my best decisions in 31 years...
Its hard to learn so many new things, but I try my best and these two are great mentors.
Maybe they read this.... so, love you guys! :) -
I love to see the faces of my friends when I show them my java projects. They think I'm a magician XD1
-
Not that i am just in this for the money but how do i start making money from what i know? I'm sick of my car wash job, they hired me because i wanted to help them get there website to a better standard but that's not what they'ed had me doing. Now i just work at this dumb car wash.
Please, how do i sustain a income from this thing that i really love to do?1 -
Don't you love the neverending sprint?
You know the one that just inherits all the tickets from the last one? Each sprint packs on new cool features but along the way bug tickets come in for code you haven't even touched or wrote and you deal with them because they are blockers.
before you know it, sprint is over and ok to the next one. I'm pretty sure that is how this is supposed to work right?1 -
I'm in my final year of high school, 17 years old, hoping to go to TAFE to do a coding course. I've done some HTML, CSS and Java at school and I only really know the basics of them all. I've been learning python in my free time and fuck man is it confusing. I love coding but it's so confusing at times, I really need some words of encouragement. Thanks guys :)4
-
So does devrant save all your rants?
Apparently I'm super narcissistic and enjoy reading my old rants and the responses to them. A lot. And I'm browsing through, clicking, reading all the old comments (you guys are really great, I love reading your comments) and I realize at the bottom of the list of my rants theres no pagination, no infinite scroll. It just ends at the bottom.1 -
When I wake up from a full 7 hours of sleep, have Yerba mate ready to go, and have something mildly interesting to work on. Also bonus good mood if my wife and kid aren’t going to be home for the morning. Love seeing them, but hate hearing them while I try to work from home.2
-
I love everything about the Nvidia Tx2 board...except the ARM64 architecture. Catch me constantly building shit from source :(
Seriously though, I wish there was just one, universal open source processor architecture standard to rule them all.1 -
Today my unixstickers propack arrived finally!🤑
Telling the truth I am not evnolved in any of these technologies 🤣. I am an SAP/ABAP consultant with one year of experience and I don't feel I am going to put these over my Thinkpad🤔
Maybe it's time to get some devRant stickers, I really love them☺️5 -
Sometimes I record my screen to make a timelapse of my coding, it helps me stay focused, best hack of them all though? Work on something you love.1
-
- I love blowing my mind. Even if it is the most confusing thing. Things like security mechanisms, neurons' behaviors, mathematics (even tho I hate it when I fail lol), electronics, medical terminology and chemistry.
- I love collecting rare coins, personally never-seen stones and put them into my collection. I love to be a designer. Not only on my laptop. I have a book shelf and within that book shelf I put stones that create the yin yang sign while pushing the books to two sides. That makes them look like they are levitating. I have stones (including obsidian) that create a triangle and a knife hanging down the wall of my room.
- I love visiting touristic, historic, naturally-beautiful but also non-touristic (non-touristic? yes. by that I mean visiting e.g. the areas of touristic cities which are dangerous, because you can easily fall down off of a slippery ground and take serious injuries) places around the globe, talk to complete strangers in public (I am trying to be an extrovert), take pictures with my camera and collecting antiquities.
- I love taking risks (no. I don't play any poker games etc on the internet) without trying to put other people in risk. Driving insanely with whatever I have. Car, bike, you name it.
- I love reading books. Books that are about human psychology, fantasy novels and books about programming languages.
- I love to cook (I am at the beginning).
- I love to use the konMari method of tidying up my room.
- I love plants.
- I love having everything in my room tidied up (even if I am too busy with other stuff and skip this cleaning process for a week upto a month sometimes. Sorry, room.).
- I love doing sports. But mostly sport that I have never tried before. This can be, because of my greedy wish for an adrenaline kick. That led me into taking a balloon flight at 4 am (sunrise) and to paragliding at sunset above Mediterranean sea btw. (I am normally afraid of flying, but paragliding was awesome).
- I love swimming. Like, you cannot pull me out of the sea for a minimum of 2 hours, if it is not important.
- I love laying above the sea water and let the sea carry me to somewhere else.
- I love being alone. I love the silence. I love to be free in my thoughts.
- I love watching the sunset, the light that shines through the forest, the moonlight and the stars at night.
- I love dreaming. No, like, lucid dreaming for example.
- I love being open to any opinions.
- I love to learn about other people's views about the world and their religion.
- I love pets and would do anything to keep them alive when they are ill. It hurts my heart seeing them like this.
- I love watching demonic "A: Holy shit! Did you see this thing, too?! B: Yes!" YouTube videos just for the fun of it, but I hate horror movies and games.
- I love trying out new things. The creation of music and video for example.
- I love to give my hair and beard a shape, if I am too lazy to go to the barbershop lol. By that I don't mean just going to the barbershop, but taking an electric razor and cutting my hair myself even if I get bad results from time to time that can be corrected by letting any family member tell me in which area of of my head the hair problem is.
- I don't like disco clubs.
- I don't like toxic people even though I can be a quite toxic person myself without realizing it. If I appear toxic to you, inform me about it. Having so much testosterone in that moment, can make me do things that I don't want to do.
- I don't like drugs even tho I have to admit that I am trying a few from time to time (maybe 6 months in-between) to have a dopamine kick. I am not an addict.
- I hate myself for things that I did in the past.
- I used to watch MMA videos etc.
- I used to use a telescope, but I can't find it anymore.
- I used to have a microscope, but I can't find it anywhere and besides of that the seller did literally piss in it before selling it to me many years ago. Don't want to touch it tbh.
- I used to play games, but I don't enjoy games anymore. That makes me feel sad.
- I miss the old moments of my life.
In conclusion:
I like how things went and go so far. It changed me so much. It made me a good and a bad person. I became more open and confident, but it also particularly made me a leader who can say "fuck off" in a bad way to his family. I would like to undo this particular part of me.5 -
Now.... I am in kind of a love triangle or a square? or polygon? Don't know ... I like ubuntu(i am using it). I love elementary OS, people suggest Debian so i downloaded it, then there are many distros that amaze me and i get distracted towards them... Its so so so disturbing... What should i do😓8
-
Jetbrains shoot them self in the lag with taken fun as function keyword in kotlin #memesWillCome.
Don't blame me i love kotlin!
I even convinced my boss that we should continue in kotlin.2 -
I like scrum. I really love working that way. And imo the daily scrum meeting is pretty useful.
But now we have two of them every day. I don't know how to feel about it :/ the one mornings is good and all but the one in the noon just kills my focus1 -
Machine learning becoming easier to use and more accessable. I know it's been around a while it's just getting way easier to use with out having to get too nitty gritty in things. I really like the idea off assisting human jobs with automation when possible if it's not practical to completely automate them. That's specifically what I'd one day love to work on.
-
What do you guys think is the best method to teach juniors web dev? What are some things that would make you love a uni class and learn it?
I am teaching web dev and I find it very hard to engage all the students as almost half of them are not interested and I think they see the class too difficult(web basics?!). This is my first class teaching and I want to gather some feedback here and implement it in my class.
So, basically let me know of anything that makes you love and hate abclass because of the teacher's methodology. Thanks a lot3 -
I love that Travis-CI lets you change all the on site fonts to comic sans, but no dark theme. Maybe if I paid them...

Need some advice:
I got a job offer which I would love to start ASAP. However.. I have a 2 hospital dates one, 4th April and the other 13th May.
I am not sure what to tell the company. Should I be honest and say I got these 2 dates that I need to day off..or tell them about my first appointment and then later on in April tell them my appointment for May?
(This is my first job offer after graduation and I do not want the offer to then go away because if this..)4 -
My father gave me a couple smartphones to do whatever with.
So what do you guys think I should do with them?
I have an Alcatel onetouch and a Galaxy Core Prime.
So yeah, custom ROM? Tear them apart for parts? Hack them?
I'd love some ideas!5 -
Gotta love how them life long burger flippers joined the evil rich people to talk about how nothing anyone makes matters and learning isn’t important etc etc
Problem is when all progress keeps getting reset they seem right for awhile until the extras are gone -
You just have to love users, especially when you work in an environment where politics dictate database constraints and application rules.
"Can you pull tax info for x, y, and z."
Nope, I could if the stuff was entered into the database properly but until standardized I can't do much. Here are the numbers I have, use them or don't but I'm not fabricating data for you for a tax form. -
Android studio,
I'm in love with the multiple cursor
And with the thing that you can right click +Ctrl vars/classes/files/functions
And it will take you to them/to where they are mentioned -
Cats and dogs - I interact with both in my uni and love both of them (yea well guess which one of them actually reciprocates the love).
I'm kinda having a tough time deciding which one do I keep in my Avatar.
@dfox please add an option with both of 'em fuckers3 -
Existence is pain, and since you cannot take anybody's consent before giving them birth -- humans should not reproduce.
I have thought this over, would love to see if anyone can find holes in the premise or the conclusion.23 -
Somehow I found Rousseau's the social contract.
I'm early into it since you know fucking chomo faggots with no balls keep screwing the world up trying to steal real peoles personalities and make them queer which eventually will lead to a generation that murders them being bred.
Anyway I found a love phrase.
Slaves loose everything in their chains even the desire of escaping them.
He continues.
Force made the first slaves, cowardice perpetuated the condition.
In short
The world being full of cocksucking perverse house niggers that love the taste of table scraps is the problem of the free man whose life is being devoured by scum like tosensei5 -
I love stickers but I also love my laptop lid clean. Back when I was a MacBook user, I did buy a case/cover in order to place the stickers and remove them whenever I want. Do you know anything similar for regular notebooks such as a Dell Inspiron?3

Historian who fucks up history stories every time I try to talk about them.
I love history, but I'll be damned if I can actually remember the details correctlyor articulate them1 -
Week : 48
How is the weekend going?
Have you ever had your heart broken? Do you still love them?
Previous Week : https://devrant.com/rants/108606296 -
I really love JetBrains IDEs and I use them all day. However now the unit tests in the IDE are broken and cannot be run anymore. Please fix asap :( I can't work like this.2
-
Focusing on node.js and vue.js because I really love the simplicity of them both, and I am working on some side projects I want to release this year which requires me to know the full stack.
-
I love starting and working on new projects. But as soon as projects exceed their deadlines, I start to get so bored and lazy to actually continue working on them... I haven’t yet been able to overcome this.2
-
Soooooo i am soon done with high school and going to college would you guys recommend studying programming?
Ps:i really do love being creative and have something hard to achieve and really into the details of games and how people made them16 -
! rant. What do I gain by switching to gentoo or arch from Ubuntu? Like do I stumble upon more problems and learn from them? Considering a change of distro if I see something I like, would love to hear some opinions1
-
I love online games and I always enjoy to play them whenever I have free time. So lately I started playing Run game and also Basketball legends and even Fireboy and Watergirl.
https://fireboyandwatergirl5.us
https://basketballlegends-unblocked.com/...
So my questions is, some of these games are built on the flash platforms. What will happen with these games when this platform will be disabled? I will no longer be able to play them???2 -
How come that nowhere on the entire internet it's mentioned whether the AirPods Pro also cancel ambient noise while using the microphone to talk to other people? Am I the only person in the world that would love to have a conversation through the AirPods while being at a noisy place without them complaining about my noisy surroundings? Why is literally no review talking about that (maybe missing) feature? Seems important to me...
-
@dfox love your work. Have an enhancement request for IOS app badge counter: tapping on notification symbol in top right corner to view +1's should be the action to clear the badge counter for +1's, not the action of tapping on individual +1's (there's nothing to read when tapping on them)7
-
I love JS but I hate JS Frameworks. All of them, but react by passion. I used a bit vue with Laravel but meh... Angular i did not tried.7
-
The thing I love about Python is that it has no fricking pointers!!!
I hate pointers and getting a language that doesn't use them
win-win for me!11 -
Hah. I was cleaning my screenshot folder and saw the bitbucket dying one night. It was after midnight and was in 'the zone'.
But still i love them :)1 -
Come on mac app developers, if you build an app think of people that love your app, think of them that even when they love it they want to get rid of that.
In normal possible way there is.
*not like rm -rf kk? -
Drupal 8, by far. It recommends you use already existing plugins (and most of them are megamoth shitstorms that do more than you want in a way you don't want) - and make it hard to write your own code. On top of that it has shitty documentation. And it's slow, hard to configure via the menus and makes for countless hours of frustration. Try it out, you'll love it!
-
I love how they go out of the way to allow the same photos of them to be taken. of course unless they're followed on successive runs there is no way of ensuring their capture is there which is what makes this system of theirs almost make sense if not for allowing more of their kind to be bred
-
Hey everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well & of course staying safe, Well today i'd love to get some opinions and some advice. I've been using Mac OS and Win10 for quite a while now and would love to move on and perhaps try something new :-) Linux Mint or Ubuntu, Would love to know Which one would you recommend? as far as i'm aware it's basically just look and feel that makes the difference? Also what possible skills can i learn from using them? :-)
Thank you for taking the time to read my question! i appreciate it heaps!
Cheers :-)19 -
got to love them assessment tests...
