Chatting on Slack with a junior dev:
[Junior Dev] How do I get that file from the server ?
[Me] ssh into it and then use scp
I see Junior across the room, literally saying "shshh..." at the computer.
Packed my stuff and quit that day.12 -
How it should be:
- First: solve the problem
- Second: Write your code.
How many people do:
- First: Write code
- Second: solve code problems
- Third: Adapt code with requirements
- Forth: get lost on your spaghetti code
- Sixth: make a suicide8 -
I FINALLY DID IT!! I landed a job!! I'm going to be a firmware engineer!! Woohoo!! 😁
It only took half a year, but I finally got one, and purely off my own merit. It feels damn good when you get the job with no references or connections, just your own skills.
After a highly successful on-site technical/whiteboard interview, I was 90% confident I'd get it. The fact that my job search is finally over, is such a fucking relief. Good riddance to endless interview prep, applications & rejections.
I start on Monday. Goodbye freedom >.<19 -
Me: Hey, my laptop (with stickers on it) is in for repair, can't get any work done.
Friend: Oh, that sucks, we going to be delayed launching our app!
... few days later ...
Friend: Hey, did u get it back yet?
Me: They ended up giving me a brand new one cause they couldn't repair it.
Friend: That's awesome man, you got lucky!
Me: F*@$ that, I LOST MY STICKERS!7 -

A seasoned colleague just wrote this and I think it was very valuable:
On tech debt:
So the big challenge with technical debt is making non-technical management (CEO, COO, CFO, directors) understand what it means, and just how it operates. Sometimes it actually makes good sense to incur technical debt to get to market sooner, just as it sometimes makes sense to borrow money to get cash now and repay that loan later with (hopefully) resulting greater revenues from that investment. But just like a loan, tech debt always has to be paid some day. The longer the tech debt goes, the more expensive it gets. And also like a loan, the cost compounds, like compound interest on a loan. Tech debt should always be chosen with a clear plan to pay it off at some point in the not too distant future. The longer one waits to pay it, the more expensive it gets.7 -

Wanted to make a python script that makes a file, deletes it, make another one with incremented title, deletes it and so on.
Fucked something up and ended up with ~20k files before ending the script few seconds later.
Gotta love the ideas you get in the middle of the night4 -
I worked on a company with an open floor plan where you would get a desk assigned depending on the type of project you worked on. All the desks were modular an you would get a desk with a cube with a set of drawers, or with a locker-like cube with a single space and door. When this guy started, he was assigned a drawer set. Around the third day he went around the office asking anyone with a locker to trade cubes. He finally got one. He filled it up with liquor bottles, cans of juice and several types of glasses. He would prepare himself cocktails during the work day. Once he was enjoying a Coca-Cola and whisky mix when the HR boss came around to ask what he was up. He offered the guy a drink.4

Swag store feature request:
I can't wear any of the shirts at work with current dress code rules. Any chance we could get some polos or golf shirts with a small, embroidered ":/" on it?
I'd buy a week's worth of those.3 -
I get a call: "Hey the site is down. Fix it!"
Worked on my workstation, not on my phone => DNS issue.
Local cache: "All OK"
ISP's DNS: "No record"
Google DNS: "Server error"
MXToolbox: "All OK"
CloudFlare DNS: "Domain? What domain?"
After a day of fucking around with configs and wanting to strangle the customer support guy, I just started pressing buttons, until suddenly, it worked. Turns out I'd accidentally enabled DNSSEC on a domain, that wasn't configured for it.
Lesson learned: There is no official DNS error code for "DNSSEC failed somewhere upstream". If you're lucky, you might get something useful out of the authoritative server, but apparently not on Mondays.8 -

So, it finally arrived 🤓
Been waiting for so long to get my hands on one of these! Finally I can start messing around with it 😄23 -
Coworker: "can you help me with this thing?"
Me: "sure, what have you tried so far"
Them: "nothing yet"
Hdhajsgrbeiry JUST TRY _SOMETHING_ AT LEAST BEFORE ASKING FOR HELP.
It's literally your job to solve problems, not get other people to solve them for you.
Asking for help if you don't understand something is one thing, but constantly trying to get people to show you exact examples is not doing your job.
This has been a chronic problem with one of our devs and despite advising them multiple times on it, it continues to happen.12 -

Wtf is wrong with stackoverflow I asked a question I get it’s not easy to understand it to answer
But your instead trying to fix my grammar and punctuation! Wtf! It’s 100% readable

Am I the only one who, on seeing a post/rant on devRant with 49 or 99 or 149 or 199 existing ++... upvotes it to get it to an even number and then reads it?11

Just finished installing Deepin OS on my old laptop as an attempt to get familiar with linux (coming from win10). It looks gorgeous, I got at least four orgasms from the installation process alone. And it comes with lots of cool apps preinstalled (Chrome, Spotify, Steam, etc). So far I'm very happy with it.30

Trying to install Ubuntu onto my newly acquired Asus T100.
It's hardly compatible with Linux but after tweaking around I did get it to boot with Ubuntu 16.04.
I'm actually quite nervous 😅
But leaving windows on that poor thing would be a no-fucking-go so I hope this will save it.19 -

Growing up with thw crappiest netbook for 8 years, then a regular laptop, now an i3 laptop.
It pains me to see my classmates having i7 laptops and all they do with it is watch movies and browse the internet. All that wasted potential!

"If you are on Craigslist to get a sofa, and you see one for free. You think there’s something tragically wrong with it – maybe there are bedbugs. I accidentally triggered a reindex on an database with 14 million records in it. It prevented hundreds of people from doing their jobs for several hours. Probably cost the company tens of thousands of dollars. Didn't get fired for it, but man it didn't feel good...

Apple iPhone testing without being on the app store is so annoying, I had to sign up some people to test the app I've been working on and had issues on my end, it really is this whole security bullshit, really it isn't needed.
I couldn't get the team provisional certificate thing to show up because when I clicked the account the team certificate settings would disappear, only after right clicking and hitting help then clicking the team while it was selected could I go to the right window.
I don't see why it's so damn hard to do this crap.
Yet with Android, it's so easy.
I really have issues with the testing for this iPhone app, I went through so many different ways to try and get it to work.
Anyways all done, crashlytics is an awesome testing tool if you can get around that small issue I had.4 -

This happened yesterday. It was a Friday and I didn't have much time to implement something that I was asked.
I was supposed to get the cpu temperature from a host device and send it to the server. Instead I just used random.randint(x,y) (python random function) with x,y linearly dependent on cpu utilisation (cpu utilisation is easy to get).
The ability to generate random numbers on fly has to be on of the coolest things that you can do. You can almost fake anything using them properly 😅7 -
First (working) attempts at writing a proxy that rewrites live requests from the devrant app, right now it only rewrites all notifications to be unread
Though the first attempt that finally works is built with mitmproxy and it's add-on scripting, plan is to get that stuff work with e.g. goproxy instead37 -
I can forgive some weirdness in generated html, but it is when generated html is combined with some plugins, and then a starting html dev who doesn't know what he's doing sprinkles some extras on top that you get frankenstein creatures like this.6

Coders get yourself a electronics friend and electronic heads get yourself a coder.
I got a friend who studies engineering and really loves it and i do software development with a passion.
And we both love to chill with some drinks every now and then.
The result: We're currently creating a thing which fills you drinks via a button press on your phone.😁
Optional paypal payment for every drink for use at parties of course.(;4 -
Building a page for a company on the side, they said payment after page is delivered. I said they'd get a finished build, they were okay with it. I also added a couple random errors that will break the site after a month... Am I a terrible person? :3
I will remove the errors after I get paid, of course. :p9 -
Best thing about being a mobile developer:
Whenever your elders give you shit for being on the phone too much, tell them that you are testing your app and get away with it.1 -
Microsoft Teams can burn.
Their latest feature ? Well, turns out that when I get notifications on mobile that I do not get on desktop BECAUSE I AM FUCKING INTERACTING WITH THE CHAT OR CHANNEL THAT SENDS ME MOBILE NOTIFICATION, the notifications do not clear themselves. Oh, no, that would be too smart.
So EACH FUCKING EVENING I sit and browse all the fucking notifications to see if there is anything noteworthy I need to act on, or if it is a dead notification from earlier today.

My apprentice is driving me nuts with his failed attempts on gold-plating.
The task "Get the data and export it to a file" becomes ""After many attempts to get the data via a different query than we worked out together I now finally got it and it makes sense if it was displayed but only one set of data at a time and it should also be selected what data should be exported and I have no idea how to do that so Cero, can you help me?".
Dang it dude, just show me for once that you can do 1 clearly decribed task, where you have many examples to work with, and NOT try to add any extras!
I am now working on how to tell him this in a nicer way...2 -
"Get a job doing what you love, you'll never work a day in your life" they said

To get myself into a better relation with golang, I started working on an electronless, cancer free, cross platform lightweight slack client.
I will be using the Fyne UI lib, and am already in love with it.
So far my mockup UI compiles into a fully portable >20Mb binary. the netcode shouldnt take any more than that, hoping to end up with a ~50Mb project.
TL;DR:
- theres gonna be a lightweight slack client available at one point
- fyne is awesome, get it at https://fyne.io/8 -

My brother came to me with his phone today to ask me if I could turn it on with my computer, because his power button is broken so I proceeded to attach it to my lappy and boot it with adb just to find out I can't do anything because he hasn't turned on USB debugging!
I managed to get into his recovery which helped nothing because in order to navigate in the menu the power button has to work

Why do a lot of people on this site get away with typos? I mean, we're supposed to be devs, typos kill us.. From 'postion' instead of 'position', i can do this all day.. i get it, the point is getting the thought across, and, by all means, the thought came across just fine.. it just irks the mind thinking its supposed to be a dev community yet, quite ironically, it is peppered with typos.. dont even wanna get started with the your/you're, the there/their/they're and the than/then.. i mean, how can you not know its proper usage? Is it really that hard? If you can't use it properly, then don't.. if you can't form a sentence without using it, consider not saying/posting and get back to school first..
Imagine an internet where one corner could at least be decent enough to be proficient in the simplest thing: using words..70 -
I scored a GBA sp (with Super Mario Bros 3) at my local Goodwill today for $20. I always wanted one as a kid, but I almost didn't get it cause some asshole found it first. I saw him fumble with it for a solid 3 minutes before he could get it to turn on. Finally he put the cartridge in the right way and flicked the power switch. I thought it was all over. At that point the dumbass realized it worth something but instead of buying it HE HID THE GAMEBOY AND LEFT. I wasn't going to wait for him so I bought it myself 😂.6

To any and all family members, before requesting my help with the printer/computer/electronic device follow these steps to make sure I don't get irritated.
1. Make sure it's plugged in.
2. Turn it off then back on
3. Turn it off, unplug it for around 30s, turn it back on.
4. Request help
Why is this so hard to grasp? I don't want to stop my workflow with an issue that could be resolved in less than a minute!1 -
PM emails me a zip file with the message "Can you give the attached a look and get it to work. See email below that there are some items missing to make it run."
Items missing : 3 custom libraries, 2 sql databases, 3 custom sql tables, and oh yeah the license to the program it runs on.1 -
Expert: "The core problem with passwords is that they reside on a server."
I suppose that's true, but only if you're a complete moron. Store a hash of a password, and users can authenticate against it with a password that doesn't get logged. This is technology that's been around for over fifty years. If you're storing passwords on a server, you deserve whatever trouble you get.6 -

I'm not going to have a lot of new friends here but I am fed up with all those guys complaining about CSS on devRant.
CSS is damn easy. Get over it. Take some lessons, learn it the right way and shut your mouth.
I'd prefer you share your enlighten opinion on CSS in JS with React Native or CSS compositing with ReactJS which are both huge pain in the ass.
Plain CSS isn't the cause of all your pain. You are.11 -
So my teacher wanted to play a movie cos the class got good test results, and so she asked me how to play a movie on her laptop and get it on the TV and this is how it went down...
Teacher: Sukhi, do you think you could help me.
Me: Yea sure, what do you need help with
Teacher: So I want to play a movie tomorrow but I don't know how to get it up on the TV
Me: Oh its easy just get a HDMI cable and plug your laptop into it.
Teacher: Oh yea I have like 6 of those. Ok then see ya tomorrow.

Teacher: Hey Sukhi, heres the HDMI cable. *Pulls out a AUX cord*

fuck me. I started the night with the question "what are classes, in JavaScript?", did a lot of reading, and just came to the conclusion "religious colonialism.", and I didn't even read a single Crockford essay.

No fuck off we don't need a team meeting about it.
We shouldn't need to go in front of a panel to begin with, let us get on with our job and let us automate the shit so sprint planning wouldn't be so difficult2 -
Well I choose nodejs and typescript because it was quick and easy to get started and finish a project with but nobody seems to care about that decision. Still get asked to work on react every 11 seconds of my life 💁🏼♀️7

IBM is taking a shit in our mouths. I suppose we should have seen this coming, but almost our entire environment runs on CentOS. Not only will we have to find a new distro (which will probably be CoreOS with kube, bleh) but we'll have to get everyday trained up on it.10

I feel like Unreal Engine for Linux is obsessed with compiling stuff:
Want to get Unreal Engine? Here's the source code, go compile it yourself.
Installed that, let's launch it. Compiles more stuff.
Now you're on the project selection screen, good job! Imma compile these shaders though.
Want to make a project with C++? That means I'll have to compile some more stuff...

Imagine updating a legacy web app and the code is so bad it physically makes you sick every time you look at it. Tables with over 400 columns, . And don't even get me started on the security issues. Apparently writing "Confidential" on the top of the page is enough security. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. People should get licenced before being allowed to code.2

I'm starting a new job in a month!
I'm simultaneously excited and anxious about it.
Excited because I get to work on some new cool projects, use new tech, get great pay and benefits, and it really seems like a great place for me.
Anxious because I am currently on sick leave with stress, because my current job wore me down. Not so much the tasks themselves, but the atmosphere and attitude of management. So I have to hope that I can manage to get enough rest in the coming month that I am well enough to perform well at my new job.4 -
I'm still on my first job. Started on November , 2015. I am a system analyst for the government. Love it very much. I work with great and fun people and my boss is badass. And besides all that, I get paid relatively well for someone with my level of experience. Really can't complain.3

Does anyone else feel like HackerRank questions are trick questions?
Without a textfield to explain the answer It highly depends on how deeply you think about it..
Can you do x with technology y?
Yes.
Can you do x with technology y alone?
Well yeah but no, you still need something to process it. What does "alone" mean? Without electricity you sure can't do anything.
Extreme example but you get my point..6 -

Trend:
The Kiki
- idiots get out of there car and dance with the door open...
Me
- Meh. Ghost riding the whip is old news.
——
New Trend:
The Kiki fail
- people get out and either fail or get betrayed.
Me: now I’m on board.
Great examples seen so far...
1. Women get out dancing, drops her bag (on purpose) in dancing. A motorcycle comes along and steals her purse.
Me: Great. I hope they get away with it too. I like the criminals more than the idiot in this case.
2. Dude gets out and starts dancing. Driver speeds up. The guy holds on to the car telling him to “STOP!”. He stops, the guy goes head first through the window of the driver (its down) and I assume right on his head.
Me: mmmmm delicious7 -
I sometimes cry a lil bit when I see php sql code without pdo. Specially when someone mentions a cool example online or a tutorial or whatever. Guys please, get good with sql as well as pdo....please pretty please with cherries on top. While we are at it, it might not be the solution to aaaall problems....but mvc can do wonders for you, it really can. That pattern has been on for a while...learn it and use it well. Also, restful apis are good mmkay? They fit nice with the glory of Node.js and its amazing front end powers and utilities mmmmmmkay?3

or get this build for $4000 that's a fuckton more powerful AND has 2 monitors (with stands!) and just stick Hackintosh on it.

First world problems - approaching 50k rep on Stackoverflow (well, currently on 46k.) Would quite like to get to 50k. But my days of enjoying procrastinating on there are long gone.
Sadly, so are most of the good questions it seems.
Anyone else still answer random questions on there for fun? Or has everyone else pretty much given up with it too?9 -
What’s stopping you from switching to Linux?
I’ve recently switched to Manjaro, with a copy of windows on another drive for games that I can’t play with Proton, but in large part everything I do works so well on Linux, and I get to avoid the forced updates and other Microsoft non sense that comes with it.28 -
I get questions a lot online on how to do something with programming. (at least it's not someone asking me to help with their printer). I have no clue why they keep asking me though, I don't know how to do shit. I just google and press buttons until it does something somewhat cool.1

That feeling when you hace your first talk with new lead QA, all the way from Microsoft:
QA (sitting at her new desk & PC): "How do I get the log in screen?"

QA: "How do I turn it on?"rant stupidfuckingtesters iswearitstrue flipsdesk whothefuckhiredthisimbecile tbiscompanyisaaocialexperimemtgonewrong5 -

Got bored and started work on a basic 2D game engine using vala and GTK to provide basic windows and UI...
If I can get a sprite moving on screen with at least 8 axis of movement I'll consider it a job done and throw her on GitHub and probably never touch again 👍8 -
If you're a recruiter approaching people on linkedin then don't be a fucking idiot and waste their time, get to the fucking point damn it!

Did anyone ever felt that everyday is a loop? Mine is as follows
Bug Reported -> Try to reproduce -> Check on web -> Check iOS -> Check iOS 13.x -> Update or get hold of other simulator/devices -> Check iOS 13.x2 -> Fix it -> Now it breaks on Android -> Fix it -> Get it QAd -> QA feels their should be some more design changes -> Make him/her understand that what is priority for now -> Now everyone has started testing app and everyone have their opinion (designers are asleep at this point) -> Get all of the team in sync -> Start release -> 99% -> Some yells "wait" -> One more thing -> Sleep with nightmares -> Repeat
PS: We have a responsive web application that is also wrapped in Cordova for iOS and Android.5 -
Had a feedback meeting with one of my senior devs today, it went really well and allowed me to get a new view on some things, like some common behavior patterns I do. Really happy about it :3 If you didn't have something like this yet, go for it, it's definitely worth the time ^^

I remember when this person I worked for suggested all the engineers get on a day long call with the product owner pointing out problems and the engineers fixing them on the call. It was absolute chaos when i told my team 😂
Has anyone else ever encountered such??4 -
Last week i couldn't use a website to download a product because it failed on every browser and even with addons deactivated. The error said "please input the version" and version is a checkbox.
Wrote to support.
Me: "Download does not work! It gives error xyz. How can i get the product?"
Support : "Oh, you can easily get it from our download page."

poor devs: So we are doing R&D right..(excited)

poor devs: no words spoken

It honestly fucking seems like I am the only one that never could get google keyboard to have better auto-correct and also automatically add words I constantly fix after it corrects them - to some sort of dictionary, even with all relevant settings activated.
It's really frustrating when people praise it's auto-correct and learning functions, when I just can't get it to work on any of my devices.6 -
If you are a new employee tasked to work with Java, C#, C++ or whatever, choose a Windows PC. And don't get obsessed with having things that look nice, we all know the screen on apple products is awesome, but to get the job done especially if you are a programmer, it's a pain in the ass.
I see Mac owners daily struggle with this and that just to get some work done.
Of course we can start talking about virtual OS, dual boot and so forth, but does it really matter?
Nonetheless if your job is to build ios apps, then of course a Mac Book is a better alternative, but if most of your work is done with C#, then go with Windows PC because it fully supports Visual Studio.13 -

Scaled custom help desk software across 5 school districts. Way harder than it sounds when you realize that we needed a tunnel to get an external site working, complex routing to get the servers to communicate with one another without exposing one districts network to the others. And I also made it auto deploy on a successful CI test. The only thing that really perfectly worked on the first try was the database (CockroachDB). Everything else was a complete mess of DNS and routing rules.2

I get that I'm new with this programming stuff. Yet why is it I feel I'm fighting the UI of Android than actually programming. Why is it so damn hard to display something in a nav draw. At home: a glass of nice single malt whiskey, headphones on with some chill background music and that's all I need.
At work: First half an hour up to one hours goes into deciding what to do / waking up and having the first 2-4 cups of coffee.
Headphones on with some chill background music and I get into the zone for a quick moment before it's lunch time and it takes up to 1h after the lunch break to get back to the zone and multiple coffee cups.
In the afternoon I usually get into the zone and real speed with my work and quite often almost forget to go home :/ -

Compass readings on Android phone might get messed up when iPhone gets close to it.

OH MY FUCKING GOD IT'S BOOTING! Yesterday I spilled liquid on my desktop computer stopping it immediately, and today after letting it dry and rubbing it with some isopropyl alcohol it starts up as if nothing ever happened! 😊
However, I didn't try the graphics card under heavy load yet, maybe it can get unstable as the spillage affected it's power circuit area. -
What's up with recent Bootcamp grads putting themselves as "full stack engineer"s or "software engineer"s on LinkedIn when they haven't even had their first job yet? They build two projects and they think they are already engineers with zero relative job experience?

I had a technical test on Tuesday on Linux and SQL. I thought I failed. I get a call that I did pretty well and now they want me for an interview. Naturally, I get very excited.
I get a date for the interview and get ready to shine... until I accept the video call and find out that it is a technical interview! But this time instead I have to express myself in a foreign language.
(And also not with the people I was supposed to have the interview with)
No worse way to stress someone XYZ company! Totally uncool!!!
I think now I can go in a shadowy corner and whimper.9 -

Started taking an Angular 5 tutorial to see how things were going in the world of Angular JS. I got to say, I am impressed. It makes me think of React in a lot of ways, but with a heavy emphasis on separation of concerns. Particularly suited for those that do not like to mix views with logic. I am liking it and going at it with an open mind although React is still my preferred option. One thing that irritates me is the ammount of "plz sir, can you give code for <insert complex and heavy app that people just do not give for free>".....so annoying.
On another note, I like how Angular brings in the concept of di among other things to the table, what I am trying to get is the feeling of writing 2 apps, there is one thing to have MVC on the background, the other is to have it in the frontend! Oh well, Angular (first edition) was fun and I know it decently well, time to get cracking on more code!! -

So I'm working on a project that relies on Google apis specifically Maps. What I just found out blew my mind. The company that writes documents about how you should return correct status codes doesn't return correct status codes. If I send a request with a proper API key, I get a 200 okay back. If I send a request with an invalid API key, I also get it 200 okay back2

Unpopular opinion: macOS is better for working on the go than Linux.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Linux... for servers and desktops. Linux, particularly Arch, is incredible at running only the bare minimum of what you need in a system, so that you use the power of the machine to fullest. Don't get me started on the out-of-the-box compatibility with development in general.
However, I just spent 2 days trying to get the freaking wifi working on my Linux laptop. When I opened up my Macbook, it *just worked.* I really don't have the time to be dicking around with configs when I am working on the go.
Especially with technologies such as Docker, Git, and SSH, it's actually really easy to have the same development environment on my macbook and Linux desktop... and as much as I hate to say it, I think it's no more Linux on laptops for me anymore.10 -
I hate leaving work late, stuck on a bug and 10 miles down the road heading home, figure out a solution and then argue with myself do I go back and fix it now with no distractions or write it down ... then in the morning I’ll do it but bear with distractions... or not write it down .. hope I remember and then do it in the morning
But I’ll probably get distracted.: forget .. then remember after everyone leaves and implement it tomorrow night .. lol3 -
I got my job by applying on Indeed. I know! Crazy, right? You apply for it and you get it. Pretty much never happens with these job sites because of crappy recruiters and clueless HR drones who tend to post and forget. I must’ve hit the luck lottery that day.3

I was working on computer project with a friend. He saw my devRant stressball was sideways so he turned it upright. I saw it was upright so I turned it sideways. We both have aspergers so we keep doing this for two hours before either one of us says anything about the OCD battle we were having.

The world of SSO (Single sign on) it's a real shit.
At start I tought its a pretty common feature that lots of people want, so there should be a lot of open source options for making a server and client libraries.
So far I've only found to libraries, written in java with a fucking big book instead of a simple documentation with billions of options and features but without a fucking guide to get it running and connect with a database.
It's that hard to write an easy manual with the steps to get it running instead a giant book with million's of technical terms and architectural details?1 -

I bought a new pc and am excited about using it, but, Windows wouldn't be Windows if its installation went flawlessly. Facking Windows.

3. work on my dotfiles
4. rewrite the damn thing -
story of a release
v2.1.0 major changes went live : new features, bug fixes, optimisations. also included releases for 2 associated libraries
release process tasks:
- do code
- update test cases
- test sample app
- test on another sample app
- get code reviewed and approved by senior ( who takes his own sweet time to review and never approves on first try)
- get code reviewed again
- merge to develop after 20 mins( coz CICD pipeline won't finish and allow merging before that)
- merge to master after 20 mins( coz CICD again)
- realise that you forgot to update dates in markdown files as you thought the release will be on 10th sept and release is happennig on 12th sept coz of sweet senior's code fucking/reviewing time
- again raise a branch to develop
- again get it a review approval by sr (who hopefully gives a merge approval in less time now)
- again get it merged to develop after waiting for 20 mins
- again get it merged to master after waiting for 20 mins
- create a clean build aar file
- publish to sonatype staging
- publish to sonatype release
- wait for 30 mins to show while having your brain fucked with tension
- create a release doc with all the changes
- update the documentation on a wyswig based crappy docs website
- send a message to slack channels
- done
===========
why am i telling you this? coz i just found a bug in a code that i shipped in that release which still got in after all the above shitty processes. its a change of a 3 lines of code, but i will need to do all the steps again. even though i am going through the same shitty steps for another library version upgrade that depends on this library 😭😭
AND I AM THE ONE WHO CAUGHT IT. it went unnoticed because both of those shitty samples did not tested this case. now i can keep mum about it and release another buggy build that depends on it and let the chaos do its work, or i can get the blame and ship a rectification asap. i won't get any reward or good impression for the 2nd, and a time bomb like situation will get created if i go with 1st :/

I really need to go back to school and brush up on the basics this summer. The problem with being self-taught is that you have glaring big gaps in just that, the basics, and as the projects get more complicated it really starts to show.

Most interesting bug (recently at least)... In JavaScript, you can create a date with new Date(dateString).
...if it starts with the year or is ISO format, it will take the user's local timezone into account. if you did something like new Date('6-Jun-16') it doesn't care about time zones... so depending on how we passed a date via the api, we'd get a different actual date.4 -

What would be the easiest starting point on low level languages?
I started with java, learned to hate it.
I continued with web development, learned to hate it.
Continued with PHP, learned to hate it.
Continued with scripting languages like Python, NodeJS, etc.., hated it from the beginning but it was easy.
But everytime i touch something like c/c++/rust/etc i immeadiatly give up, because the syntax is so different than all these other high level languages and so much null/type safety and so on.
But i want to get into low level programming languages which compile to an executable and don't get executed on some "vm".12 -

Spend half a day trying to make sound work on my antergos install, after multiple image builds, kernel jumping, reinstalling alsa, realized that people working on making cherry trail laptops sound work - stopped working on it since like april 2017 and new kernels have simply no patch to make it work, great.. debian docs mention that you should be able to use an external soundcard atleast, but the whole alsa and pulseaudio shit doesn't make that easy at all.. atleast the battery time with arch+powertop+tlp is almost the same as what I would get with windows out of it1

Fellow iPhone users and broke bitches too cheap to get the battery replaced or buy a new phone, I have noticed that I get a lot smoother performance and a more gradual if steeper battery life with apples bullshit process slowing turned off. Now anything below 20% is a flip of a coin if the phone will turn off, but with it on it chews the top end of the battery much faster and seems to die more when idle.

I'm pretty familiar with SQL. It used to scare me, but now, years on, I'm super comfortable with it, and I don't really get why anyone would need anything else, generally speaking. Having said that, just tried to play with mongodb for a minute, and holy shit, that is some weird, weird stuff. I read all of the marketing fluff on the site, but I still am at a loss. Is it just that people don't want to be bothered to learn SQL syntax or use an ORM, or make a REST API, so they went off and created a weird JSON thing?

Lappy comes up and tries to get into bios to do a firmware update. WTF! I reboot and it does it again! Go to look for power adapter as it wont do update without power. Not in bag. It has to have power to do update.
So I drive back to shop (with guys waiting on top of tank) which is 5 miles away. I am pissed. Its snowing and I have to drive slow. I find that adapter. I get back to the tank and plug it in. The AC source (battery based) starts alarming as the lappy takes too much power. Fuck! But somehow it boots Windows without doing firmware update. Fuck you Windows!
I get my job done, but don't fucking trust windows at all. Had this been a field tech he would be pissing his pants. Useless shitty software you have zero control over. Now considering changing their OS to Linux for field work. I am rewriting their software anyway with something can run Windows or Linux.4 -

That moment when you see someone selling your eBay products with the exact same pictures, exact same descriptions on another site but with double the price.
Enquired about it and suddenly I get an eBay message.
What do we have here? It's the exact same username from the other site!
Now, how should I play with this guy....
*Insert evil smile here*2 -
Here are some:

So checking out this book for a few chapters i want to get over with and my friends sitting right next to me and she sees the cover has a cow on it and it said servers and she was like are you learning how to serve steak?

I just lost a comment and had to rewrite it because I clicked a millimetre under the "post" button.
On new posts, the text remains in the box and can be edited the next time, but not on comments.
Perhaps I should get used to navigating to the "post" button with the tabulator key (↹).
It would be even better if CTRL+Enter did send.4 -
I have a few side project ideas. I started one of them a few months ago (project setup, dependencies, git repo, index page, very basic API and client functionality). But I cannot get myself to work on it or even think about it (for months now). The reason? I do not want to work on the client/frontend! I do not want to deal with React or Vue or Svelte or fuckjs or even jquery. It's a fucking mess.
For the backend, the requests are stateless: you get a request, handle it, and respond back. Need to update state? Database. That's it!
For the frontend, there's just tooo many states I can't keep up with! When the user checks or unchecks this checkbox, I need to maintain the state of the checkbox and maintain the all effects of changing the checkbox while syncing with the backend and making sure the elements are still styled correctly with the applied effects. Multiply that with all the expected interactive elements on the page. It's exhausting!4 -
Am I the only one who right clicks on webpages with my mouse and looks for a "share on twitter" option??? Windows needs to get the FUCK with it.

Well, I just finished resolving the problems with my Angular dependencies. It has been 3 days of trying to come up with the solution, and in the end, it was all a matter of version mismatch of three dependencies. Now I can (actually) get to work on my project.

Yes, i do overtime. But not to get extra pay. I do overtime to finish projects early so i can get enough time on weekend to spend it with my loved ones.
No sudo code help you feel better if you are sick. Spend time with one you love and care about. -
Not using all my time. I really don’t apply myself sometimes. Sometimes that means not using work time efficiently, sometimes that means I get stuck on a simple problem for too long because I don’t think through it. Also, I’m trying to love coding more. It takes a lot of code to get a small result sometimes, and that’s ok. I got hooked on being able to do big things with little code from the start. As we get better we know there’s more that can be done, but we are more familiar with just how much work it really is. At the same time we are more capable than ever of doing it. Just gotta embrace the suck, then love your finished product.1

Question for iOS users (not that I'm looking into an iPhone, just curious)
What is the general state on app notifications? Because I've just about had it with the absolute fucking torrent of notifications whenever you install some random app on Android.
You install some random exercise app and the next day it will say "so did you get your exercise you lazy fucker?".
You install some random food recipe app and it immediately tells you to get your luncheon going with over a billion recipes (and probably all bad)7 -

What the holy fuck! Resharper is fucking dog shit! I've never used it before and just had to install for a new job. Visual studio was running great on my machine with 32GB ram and i7 processor. I get it's features are impressive but it means fuck all if it stops me working3

Me: I need a new website. Let's make it with NodeJS / AdonisJS so I get a grip on that tech.
Also me: mmh, how about I use it as an API so that I can plug some other things in it?
Also me: successfully develop a headless CMS based on an API, with AdonisJS. Not perfect, but runs like a charm. -

So was working on an android app with Geo Fenceing capabilities ie. Reminding stuff based on users location... But no matter what it was not getting triggered even though I was standing at the heart of that location!!
Scratched my head for about a week over it and then gave up.
After a month, today I found myself at that same place with GPS turned on and that little shit triggers and 'bing' I get the reminder I was looking for...!!
My reaction >> What the heck was up with you a month ago...?1 -
Lately? Today. About to get on a call with some angry lawyers about their unhappiness with a product they haven't paid any attention to until they began feeling like I screwed it up.

Anyone else get frustrated with intellisense in VS Code constantly popping up in front of the thing you are trying to click on?

Failed installing Arch Linux....tried installing it three times

I followed their official installation guide
Do anyone know how to resolve this problem?12 -
I'll put it this way. Svelte is like Kotlin. It's modern, elegant and a pleasure to work with.
React is like Java. Old, bloated and a pain to work with.
Svelte makes React look like it was built by masochists.
I don't work on frontend often, mostly because I despise the frameworks.
Svelte is a breath of fresh air.
I just want to ship a product quickly and it doesn't get in the way.2 -
I wanted to get the latest NASA APOD photo with Python. Easy, right? Nope! Firstly, their RSS feed is partly HTML, so feedparser doesn't understand it. Secondly, feedparser doesn't even get the titles of entries correctly.
Which is why I'm trying to parse it in a horrible way using Python regexp. NASA can put humans on Luna but not even get their RSS feeds to parse properly.2 -
On an interview they told me to do a simple Todo app with angular and one of them said cheat if you want but just get it don't in a week! 😒1

I'm starting to get annoyed with Android Studio. I generally enjoy it as far as an ide goes, but why does it need to update so often??? Seriously it feels like every time I open it I get a notification saying to update something or other.
On a somewhat related note but not actually Android Studio's fault, I have decided that IdeaVim sucks. It's good sometimes, but it can't keep up with my keystrokes, so I end up with random characters in my code because even though I hit "jj" (remapped to ESC) then start typing other commands, I end up with the next command being read as still in insert mode, then it catches up with the escape and pops me back to normal mode. It drives me crazy because then I have to go back and undo the extra characters, then redo my command and it kills my flow. I'm not even that fast of a typist, it shouldn't be that hard to keep up... -
For some reason

I think I am going through burnout.
How do I deal with it?
Joined a startup with crazy work culture in Jan.
Have been working 14 hours a day for months starting march 2020, and even that was only to barely keep up with my colleagues. I have been one of the top performer in my previous jobs.
since the beginning, It always bothered me seeing people working on weekends, and falling behind if I didnt, to not have time for anything else, but I started really hating it a couple of months back.
Work has slowed down a bit now, but I just can't do it. Cant focus and get even basic tasks done. Still getting by with last minute efforts but I hate it!
Dont have the guts to leave the job, but also realise I am not doing enough and will get kicked out eventually anyway.
What can I do, to get over this?15 -
Am really confused between app development and web development. Where should I proceed guys?
Am CS student right now. Mostly learn C# (WPF, xamarin) in mean time.
But recently am getting love on Angular 4. For that I learn typescript (I know HTML and CSS basics btw) and willing to start learning it in upcoming vacations.
But thoughts coming in my mind is am doing good to get into web development? If yes what should I do with the knowledge of C# then? 😣😣. Or should I stick with app development and get dipper knowledge in it?
Really confusing stuff man. Am really need some good assistance on this topic!1 -
Started working on the game I want to make. Decided to go through the android publishing and it took like an hour to get it all set up. CI/CD not easy with game engines either.

Currently waiting in the doctor's office and the pc on the table is making so much noise... I have an itch to fiddle with it, maybe get a can of compressed air and clean it out. Though given that it's a doctor's office, not until I get gloves and a mask.

It's insane that to get a phone with decent specs without getting one that's even bigger than what I have(a 5.5" asus that feels like a behemoth) I had to get a phone that was released almost two years ago. I figure sony will release a new compact some time soon, but the price was right on the XZ2, and it feels wonderful to use a phone with one hand again.4

Well fuck...
Korora 26 finally came out and I wanted to install it on my new laptop. I'd previously put Ubuntu MATE on there, with Cinnamon kind of tacked on, but it wasn't great, mostly because it wasn't Korora.
Unfortunately, Korora (and Fedora) still have a bug in the installer where it will complain if your /boot/efi partition is not on /dev/sda, which in my case it was on my M.2 drive. However, I was able to eventually get it working.
But when I booted it up and tried to log in, it would take me back to the log in screen. I logged into a TTY, where I was reminded that when I had set up my Ubuntu install, I had chosen to encrypt the home folder.
Not knowing how to set up the eCryptFS with an existing encrypted home folder setup, I opted to wipe the drive and reinstall from scratch--I had a backup of most of my files from the Ubuntu installation. However, I lost some very important documents that I'd set up since then.
Fast forward to today where my laptop won't boot unless it is either a.) unplugged with just the battery or b.) plugged in without the battery, with a different power cable from the one I got with the computer.
Thankfully the people responded quickly after I mentioned I was having issues. Hopefully it doesn't get worse... -

Since I'm a front-end developer I've been working on PHP quite a lot lately, not only for front-end but also for back-end stuff, data conversion and image manipulation.
I've found that it's quite pleasant to work with thanks to the tons of documentation around and how straightforward it is.
I don't get how much hate it gets but I assume it's because I'm only starting to work with but damn, you could even build a car with it!1 -
5 mandatory leaves available, but haven't got even 1 person to spend it with. welp, i guess they will lapse and i will compromise on the 1 rule that i promised myself in work life : "never let your leaves lapse or get them encashed , always use them, you deserve it"3

Do you think that new open-source projects outside of Github don't get as much contributions comparing to Github projects.
! I mean new projects !
If you think so start your first comment on this rant with ✔, if you don't think so start it with ❌.
Reasoning is appreciated. Storys regarding this would be pretty cool.1 -
How do you handle it as a developer with people coming to you to tell you they have this big dream app and they want you to work on it. They have no money, No plan, just an idea and they want you to stop your life and get into it.2
-
C is one of those languages that I have no idea why I really even mess around with it. It's cool, and useful, and all that jazz. But holy hell messing up one little line of code is the death of everything.
One forgotten semi-colon, and you whole program is gone. It will mess up other lines of code, which will mess up other lines of code, so on and so forth. I've even had times where I have to almost rewrite little programs I'm playing around with because of how much little errors can mess it up.
Don't even get me started on compiling. I don't even want to get into it now.1 -
Anyone who's ever launched an app, how did you do it? Did you just release it on the app store and that was that, or did you go though and trial it with people and try to get investors and all that jazz? People who have done either how did it go? 😀3

To stay a dev (can do the role with my eyes closed) or take on the architecture role for this company that is sinking like the titanic.
Don’t bother with the hassle (don’t need more money tbh & don’t even know what the money is)?
Take the opportunity while it’s there and get it on my cv?
🤷♂️
#question4 -
Having a tight deadline and management keeps on adding developers with zero domain knowledge to get it done.
You should have seen my managers face when i asked him if he bakes a cake twice as fast if he doubles his ovens temperature. -
Dependencies suck.
I wanted a ruby gem and needed an older version of ruby to run it. Fine, what's the best way to get multiple ruby versions on one system, apparently rvm.
Now I want rvm.
I can't have rvm without getting gnupg first though.
Before I can get gnupg I need brew.
Now I have brew setting my computer on fire compiling god knows what so it can get gnupg so I can get rvm so I can get the ruby version I want to get the gem I want!
It's been running for quite a while...
This isn't the first or last time that the convenience of packages and versions leads to a maze like trail of prerequisites you need to follow.
I'm sure there's some tool that would've helped with my problem, but the problem shouldn't be this bad to begin with!
I understand why it happens but it still sucks and it's a lot of wasted time.
Frankly I'm expecting some people will have gotten so used to this kind of insanity that they won't get why I'm renting about it, oh well, it made me feel better and gave me something to do while brew is melting my machine.3 -
A fully deployed end to end example of CQRS/Eventsourcing using Haskell.... I only get 1-2 hour chunks to work on it sometimes weeks apart! Even then I get bogged down trying to improve my workflow with tmux and other cool Linux tools. 😣

with all of this experience and working with so many different people I learned.
No, matter where you switch, everything is same the only thing matter in the end is whether you get coffee served on your table or you have to make it yourself. -
I thought I'd actually stick with a Ubuntu for once. But, Elementary OS looks so cool... Apparently it is also quite fast and lightweight. I might actually put on the work to transfer from Ubuntu. Ugh.. I'll at least try and wait till I get my new computer and try it there.....3

Well, I'm kind of hyped about autonomous cars and there are a bunch of advances right now. But how do you protect such technology? It's not like my pc will explode or hit shit (with me tied to it) if I get some malware on it.
Do you have any idea on how people are mitigating this?8 -
FOMO on technology is very frustrating.
i have a few freelance and hobby projects i maintain. mostly small laravel websites, go apis, etc ..
i used to get a 24$/ month droplet from digital ocean that has 4vCPUs and 8GB RAM
it was nore than enough for everything i did.
but from time to time i get a few potential clients that want huge infrastructure work on kubernetes with monitoring stacks etc...
and i dont feel capable because i am not using this on the daily, i haven't managed a full platform with monitoring and everything on k8s.
sure u can practice on minikube but u wont get to be exposed to the tiny details that come when deploying actual websites and trying to setup workflows and all that. from managing secrets to grafana and loki and Prometheus and all those.
so i ended up getting a k8s cluster on DO, and im paying 100$ a month for it and moving everything to it.
but what i hate is im paying out of pocket, and everything just requires so much resources!!!!3 -
Arg! Learn to debug for your bleeding self you are supposed to be a bunch of senior developers it's the same bloody issues all the freaking time. So I create a step by step guide what buttons to click what text to enter because I'm so f***ing through with the same issues you bug me with day in day out! A 12 year old with no computing knowledge can follow the guides yet you don't even bother reading it half the time or choose to completely miss steps out and bug me with your issues.
Damn it why do I bother you bunch of ass hats get paid more than me too I know it! -
On days where I really need to get something done. I usually stick my headphones on and find a song I despise with the passion then play it on repeat.

Anyone here has any good/bad stories with NativeScript? I can't get it working properly no matter what I do on my Mac. Never had this issue before.

I love you sooo much Microsoft! Your goddamn Office download page won't stop re-loading. For fucks sake, get your shit together.
Someone messed with something they shouldn't, but I have no idea what it could be.
And no, I'll not try open it on IE.3 -
Ahhhh! some days I get that burnt out feeling when working on some projects and it just leads me to push the project off to a later date. This only happens with personal projects I have no trouble with school projects. I think I should create due dates for projects to keep myself on track or even create a routine that has specific time just for those projects.

<ideaForTheFutureOfProgramming>
I wish there was a way for PROgrammers with Jobs to share their work with someone who does not have a job, but yet need practise. I think in the future someone could post a part of a project to a website and someone could finish IT and return it to them. The person posting the project could also optionaly give something in return. (money, money on steam) This way newbies get practise and experience, while people can get work done. This was thought up by a 15 years old boy.
</ideaForTheFutureOfProgramming>6 -
For my bachelor thesis I'm working with Snort (an Intrusion Detection System). Running it on some test pcaps I get X alerts. When I switch the alert output from stdout to a file I get a different number of alerts. When I re-run it, I get yet another number of alerts (on stdout the number is always X)
Wtf?!3 -
Timesheets and Formations:
Every week, I'm supposed to fill out a form detailing how much time I've spent on which projects... I'm a research engineer assigned to a single project, so I'll always fill every day with 8 hours on the same project, because if it yields to less than 39h the website gets mad at you (even though I'm paid on days, not hours).
I get why it's here, I just don't get why it's my responsibility to declare which project's budgets should be liable for my salary.
As for the formations, they're always these extremely slow paced, completely obvious type of courses that borderline murder you with boredom. Yes, I know, corruption is bad, can I get back to work? -
"Come on, people! Engage with my post!"
It does not works like that, obviously.
And yet every single fucker who comes to give some mandatory training says something like this.
Bitch, if no one engages with your "chair safety PowerPoint", it is because it sucks. Not necessarily due to your delivery, the material itself sucks.
So stop asking for engagement and just give us the quizz and we can all get back to work already!1 -
I was a frontend developer, and I am new to hadoop or anything related to big data.
I am currently working as a Hadoop developer and I get to work on one of existing codebase also I am trying to recollect Java which I learnt during college.
Can u please provide me any inputs on how to get started with Hadoop, a personal view point on scope and future of Hadoop. A rough time span of how long it took for you to get out of the noob zone.
If you could provide me with a good tutorial or blog that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance1 -
So I got Python under the belt, been messing around with it for quite a while (2-3 years now :p) and I am bored of it now,
What is a pretty fun programing language that's somewhat challenging to get around?
I was planning on learning c++ next since it sounds like fun but please do suggest your favourites14 -
I like docker. I think the technology is cool and I have a few ideas on how I can use it. But I sometimes think I'm too stupid to use it.
I'm currently trying to convert parts of my dev environment to use containers. But following tutorials on it confuses me and I get lost with it really quickly and get discouraged for a few days until I give it another try and fail again
Like fuck I already know I'm mediocre but this makes me feel like i should go into a manual labor field instead of software development6 -
How to deal with micromanagment?
I just lose it when the team leader checks on issues on a hourly base, And dont get me started on the scrum master who checks the sprint status twice a day.
I can't quit this work but I'm losing mind here.
H-O-W T-H-E F-U-C-K do i deal with this idiotism??5 -

Been wanting to jump and get an Oculus Rift for a while now, but being a Mac user having to purchase a dedicated slave machine to power it has proven a greater barrier to entry than my finances allow for at the moment.
That said, with the Go having come out recently it seems interesting enough I'm almost tempted to jump on it, what with only being $200 and based on the positive Ars Technica review. Anyone have any particular thoughts or recommendations either way?1 -

Help is welcome - I don't get it x.x
Just started scripting and can't find it on google:
Got a little whitelist with urls in it and a huge list with urls in it.
whitelist format:
foobar.com
barfoo.au
format huge list:
blabla=/foobar.com/wo.op
blabla=/barfoo.au/wo.op
blabla=/barfoo.crazy.au/wo.op
blabla/barfoo.crazy/wo.op
should stay in the file.
Now I want to delete the entries of the whitelist from huge list.
I have no clue how I can get the
foobar.com
into
sed -i '/foobar\.com/d' $file
to make it work in my script x.x5 -

Been struggling for days trying to get my IntelliJ-on-Linux-VM setup running on Windows, and it's abysmally slow. Latencies for the UI are counted in seconds.

😢... Built a mobile app with React Native, the app implements Navigator api in JS to get coordinates. It works perfectly on 6.0 and below, but fails on 7.0 to be specific, Nokia 2 (it returns the same coordinates regardless of the location). How to go about this? What other library can I use to get coordinates?
PS: I have checked the permissions and they are set. -
Alright devs, in the US, can I not get a SIM card on which I simply put some money, and can use that until it runs out? Seems there is a 30-day limit tied to everything!!! I don't need data for 30 days!!!
This is totally possible in Europe, what is going on with regulation in US? Seems like it should be illegal.4 -
Failing to self study because i always get stuck on tutorials like so:
Do a, now do b. You should now get C. You can then proceed with d etc.
BUT I DON'T GET C. WHY NOT?! I FOLLOWED ALL YOUR FUCKING STEPS YOU SHITTY GUIDE/BOOK/ASSHOLE.
So i had to get basics from school where i could ask questions to such stupid things. It got better, but i sometimes still run in to it, and still can't google foo my way out of it. -
Learning to like manjaro, a lot, setting up i3 for a workstation and kubernetes cluster with a couple of manjaro workstations with just the cli installed... few gotchas on the way, get Hyper-V enhanced mode working but get a message session error on dbus launch - easy fix it is already launched by lightdm, the cli install doesn't start the network driver by default but can get a whole 3 node k8s cluster running in under an hour from scratch and forward i3 to a nice, fast, little windows x-server that I got for free with Microsoft reward points.. winning!

Only in Windows does turning the power off on my monitor mean to make it my primary monitor and show login screen there. I swear they'll never get this shit right.
I'm forced to turn it on/off so windows can figure out what kind of signal to send it.
Partially blame my questionable hdmi switch. No issues with MacOS and Linux though. -
Why the fuck is it Impossible to get crisp font rendering on chrome (widows desktop), Firefox looks sooooo much more crispy... Get your shit together Google, also while your at it, catch up to Firefox with WebAssembly loading time.

Hey DevRant,
I know there is a range of devs here from novice to expert. So I wanted to get feedback on a platform I was building.
Essentially it's a web platform where Devs can authenticate with their Github profiles and all their repos (non-forked) and pulled to the website to quickly create a portfolio for the users. I currently have two templates users can switch between I plan on adding more if it begins to catch on.
Besides that users will be able to message and find each based on their skills to possibly connect with one another to work on projects together.
I have a lot of features I want to implement, but it wouldn't make sense to do those things now, I would have to wait for the user base to reach a certain milestone.
So I just wanted to share it and get everyone's feedback and possibly if you see value in it to share it with their own companions

One reason I hate working on hardware and prefer software. Spent all weekend trying to get this Canon photo printer to work with a raspberry pi for a photo booth project. Tried multiple cables, compiling the latest cups and gutenprint, etc. Only could get it to print via wifi. Finally, I go to the store and buy a new micro USB cable and it works right away. 😠2

question / idea.
I do not know if it already exists or if others have already mentioned this idea.
a devRant live communication channel / chat where you can quickly get help with a issues you are sitting with here and now (of course, it requires others to be on) and I'm thinking of something built into devRant.3 -

Anyone else get janky scrolling when reading the comments on a rant? I don't know what kinda funky thing they tried to do with the scrolling but it always strongly resists me scrolling down the page.
Anyways, I have to do this in the DevTools console to stop it:
document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML.replaceAll('scroll','');4 -
The problem with LibreOffice is that is some respects, you get what you pay for. Like number formats that just get dropped every time you reload a spreadsheet.
Still, it's worth more than the price. Unlike GIMP, where even free is too expensive (used it for a few days, but I admit that spending time on it was my own fault).3 -
Its been a month my desktop stopped working and i tried to get it repaired from a local workshop. The guy tried everything to make it work but failed.
Now i am stuck with

Would be cool if they made some polaroid glasses that would filter out those photons that last reflected off a particular person you don't like.
Get on it physicians, I will help with the application layer logic once you figure it out. -
took me four hours plus to get a nodejs app to successfully run on cpanel.
at this point I just want to sleep and sleep forever.
why will anyone ever want to deal with this?
the ssh access? complete crap but it was better than having to deal with the janky ui, it was also slow as fuck1 -
Unless you're really fucking good at this shit, you write shitty code.
You look bad on your pull requests because you don't write perfect code, you get feedback and have to update it.
Sometimes you move existing shitty code around and if you don't rewrite it, your name gets associated with it and people think you wrote it.
Eventually it gets in, the cycle repeats itself.
You continue to wage slave so the 1% get richer, and you should be grateful for it. -

My first interaction with a computer was probably playing Parsec on an old TI-99/A we dug out of the attic. After that there were a lot of troubleshooting sessions with my dad on various computers trying to get some game up and running. I still remember the IRQ/DMA combination needed to get sound in Duke.
It really is no mystery why I ended up working with this stuff. -

I just spent 3hours trying to determine why behat could not find context files and tried to find nonexistent one while running it on jenkins.
It turned put that config directory with behat.yml had to be in lowercases rather than starting with uppercase.
It worked on my machine though..
Funny thing is rven after that it failed as php version on jenkins did not have propper extension. Guess I’ll have to get into this docker thing1 -
This is silly. Something made with Word 2010 got fucked up and I can't fix it in there. Shoved the file over to the laptop with Word 2016, fixed it there, saved with compatibility on for older versions of Word, and shoved it back. Word 2010 opens it fine and it won't get fucked up (for) now. (And file size got reduced with almost 200kb?!)
I think our company really needs to upgrade our office suite.. :P -
Does anyone have any good advice on how to use Github as a social media platform...? There are people that have so many stars and watchers on some of their projects... It would be cool to collaborate with some other developers on something and get something like that going...

Which method do you prefer: installing softwares via apt-get install or .deb packages?
My colleague disagreed with me when I choose apt-get install over downloading the .deb package. Later on it turned out the package on the ppa was outdated and didn't include systemd init scripts. I purged the package and installed the .deb provided in its website.
Worked like charm.
He had a good laugh.2
