To be or not to be.
Whenever you are stuck with something in life, ask that question to yourself.
Because
2b || !2b
Is a Boolean expression which will always be true. So asking that question will lead you to true self.

Just got BUGS list from our Client and fuck- 95% of bugs are not even bugs :|
- No, changing the (not pre-decided) verbiage is not a bug
- Adding two more pages in the app is not a bug (what the fuck :|)
- No, APK file not running in iPhone is not a bug (goddamn :|)
- No, adding these "fuckin new" functionalities is not a bug (seriously ? :/)
AND
Mr "used to be a good coder" PM,
Getting "504 Timeout Gateway" error because Server is temporarily down is NOT a fuckin frontend bug
And No, writing Javascript with a proper design architecture is not a "complicated" way of coding
and fuckin No, Global variables and functions without any architecture don't make the programming "kind of better"
ps: And VB dot net is not a fuckin scripting language, VBScript is.
Thank you,
"buggy average coder"9 -
For years I worried I was not a good programmer because of bugs, issues and not giving accurate timescales.
Then I discovered devRant and realised that there’s thousands of us that have the same issues.19 -

I remember some years ago when a professor asked -
"What is the difference between SQL and MySQL?"
And one of the students answered -
Uh... I don't know... SQL is more like a general SQL and MySQL is a personal SQL...

Dev : Every user in your organisation requires their own username and password...
User: Why?
Dev: Because if everyone uses one account, every note, product, message etc made by all the user's will be saved to that one account and confuse the he'll out of everyone using it when they can't find their 'own' information they made/captured/downloaded.
We just need the user emails.
User:We can't give you all the user emails just use one account ....
(The reason for not providing us the emails is purely cause it would require user to do work and that's out of the question)
Dev: Uhm ok, but this is not what you want, and *interrupts*
User: It is what we want, do it like that everyone will understand and it will make the system easier.
*Two weeks later*
User: Why is there only one account? Why doesn't everybody have their own account? This is not what we wanted.
... The shit you have to deal with when you are on holiday ...undefined where to hide bodies you still thing it's our fault working even when i'm not working i was right and you were wrong stil my fucking problem6 -
one of my cousin ask me to help him for uploading his ex's private pics and videos on porn websites.
Because her parents are not allowing their marriage and she is not ready to go against family (he is not working anywhere, Jobless)
I simply take screenshots of our chat and send to his ex and her parents.
Hope they will punish him.16 -
In database course we should be thaught "database", not "MySQL"

I just had the most bizarre experience of my life. I handed in my resignation letter today. About an hour later, the CEO comes and collects me, takes me into his office, and rants about me leaving and other random not even tangentially related bullshit. Accusing me of not believing in the company and not talking to him. I have no idea if I'm fired.11

I asked for a raspberry PI not raspberry PIE! I don't even like raspberries! And it's not even Christmas yet and its gonna go bad! Who the hell gets a pie for Christmas?!1

Yep, you need to know c++, php, HTML, CMS, and </> to become an Android developer.
Not java.
That's not important.

Dev: We will create another branch for the changes and merge them when required.
Director: Can we not do the changes in the current branch and comment them out until required? I think that’s cleaner and not confusing in my opinion.

Things I have learned:
-NEVER trust a group of people not to reply all to a large email
-NEVER trust a group of people not to reply to a group text
Screenshot is from yesterday, and violates my second lesson learned (Not my group text, not my fault)5 -
Let's have a real debate.
Not Linux vs Windows vs Mac.
Not Vim vs Emacs.
Not ASP.NET vs Spring Frameworks.
NO.
CHARACTER LIMIT. 80, 100, or 120+ and WHY.26 -
"I strive for code quality and maintainability. I actually do. And i will not work for a company that does not care about it and just wants something done as fast as possible.
The only time i will do something quick and dirty is if it's actually urgent. And even then with one condition - my next task will be to fix it properly.
I do not care about your deadlines. I will do my best to meet them, but not at the expense of code quality. I've seen too many projects fall into technical debt, where productivity is so low, that the only way to move forward is hire more people and start working on a project 2.0
And please do not lie about how great your company is, if it's not. These kind of things surface very soon, and you will have wasted both of our time, because as i said - i will not work for a company that does not care about code quality."
you think i'll ever get a job again if i put this on my CV ? :D10 -

"I want to do it good and fast".
That's gonna cost something man!! :')3 -
Not commenting enough, using if instead of switch, messing (and breaking) the IDE, not reading pop up messages, thinking and not doing, watching Netflix, starting on new projects before finishing old ones, complaining about certain languages, googling instead of figuring it for myself (sometimes), let my friends persuade me into making something for them, run-on sentences, not enough comments, giving up quickly, not doing adequate research, and of course, not writing down good ideas I have.9

First, they came for those who Open Source'd code.
And I did not speak out, because my code could never be used by anyone out of the company, anyway.
Then, they came for the Trade Unionists.
And I did not speak out, because I was not in a union.
Then, they came for those who worked from home.
And I did not speak out, because I was granted an exception.
Then, they came for Scrum Masters and other Agile practitioners.
And I did not speak out, because fuck those spreadsheet jockeys productivity thespians.
Then, they came for in-house Data Analysts and Data Engineers.
And there was no one left to speak out for us.
Yeah, folks. The day finally came. I'm officially updating my LinkedIn and putting a ridiculous sash under my picture, "open to work". The Layoffs came for me, too.6 -

Failure is not the problem.
Problem is not admitting and accepting that you failed.
Problem is not learning from your mistakes.
Problem is causing the same damage over and over again.
What's worsens the situation is defending the dumb act.
If you cannot handle failure then not only you stagnate your growth, but you also negatively affect people around you.
Mistakes make you perfect only when you fix them.7 -

Fucking facebook researcher that make underfitted neural nets and fuck Mark that it's a marketing genius, the only idiot that can make news from a failure. The CEO of Tesla knows it and said Mark is not an AI expert. Google faced and solved the same issue when start ed using neural nets for zero-shot translations without using english as a translation bridge.

Bit the bullet and installed VS and relevant compilers for C++ and started fucking around with sdl.
Not as terrible as I thought it was going to be.
Pointers seem pretty intuitive. Apparently my time with python has not in fact mentally mutilated me.7 -
More work-related than dev-related:
- Saying "yes" to extra work more often than necessary.
- Wanting to do everything myself and not delegating enough.
- Getting too stressed out.
- Avoiding conflicts and confrontations (even necessary ones!) and not being assertive enough.
- Overthinking everything.1 -
i hate group assignments. why is this guy doing a class in accessibility if he's not gonna pay attention and not gonna make the code accessible? and the audacity to tell us that "we can fix the accessibility stuff afterwards". the accessibility is literally the assignment!!! you're not doing shit!!!3

My boss keeps touching and poking my colleague's and my laptop screens. Our laptops are both Mac and are not company property. My colleague once told him to stop. He said sorry, but after 5 minutes, he did it again. It's so annoying. Why can't people understand that if it's not a touchscreen, they should keep their manners and not touch it?12

You get home from work and one half of your brain goes, "Let's just code a little to catch up on the backlog", and the other half of your brain goes, "No way you psycho, we're off from work and we're not getting paid for this. I'm not helping!"
And that's why you're code sucks when you're not at work! -

I try to exercise a lot of patience when training other devs. Hell, I have always asked stupid questions and will continue to do so. But yesterday I almost reached my breaking point when the guy I was training (who is not young nor entry level) asked me where the CSS files were for a static HTML page. I had to awkwardly say, "they're located at the path being linked to in the head" 😣4

When I drove up the parking lot, I had a feeling that this was a special day. Not "good" special, but "BAD" special.
I parked my car, went out, double checked to I got my headphones with me and walked in.
People where not at the places, they where talking to each other. Not talking but everyone where at some different place.
I have seen this before, when people is not working at they desk - that means that something is not working as it should and they are not telling.
I went directly to the serverroom, and directly noticed that one rack was completly black. No power. And the monitor server was one of the victims - FUCK. -
I wanna work for a company that develops cool algorithms and implements them. Where the devs analyze complex issues and have to do complex problem solving. Where everyday is a challenge. Not a place where simple repetitive UI bugs are the issue at hand. Not a place where the only tasks and todos are trivial and uninteresting. Not a place where most of my coworkers are idiots.2

Today I solved the problem assigned to me by changing one character. Simplest fix ever. Except that this problem is not on my project, and I don't have control over this project, so I can't merge my pull request or deploy the code, and the dev that does hasn't answered email today, and he's not scheduled out, and he's not in his office. Whatever, I'm just gonna say it's fuck it Friday and call it a week.1

Why am I a horrible person for following standard linting and thus not using semicolon in my JavaScript code? I write Golang and Elixir which they don't have them and thus it is for me more natural to not have them in JS as well.1

Why do teachers tend to not explain parts of their code?

Absolutely nothing excites me anymore in this field. Tech is such a commodity and I’m just so over all of it. Not gonna go all Ted Kaczinsky but I find myself longing for a time when not everything and everyone was controlled by computers. So few of you will know that I was a bit wasted last night (Monday night). Few of you will also know I was having trouble with my new linux installation. (POP!_OS)
After troubleshooting this and that, I gave up. I believe my hardware just doesn't wanna pop. So I installed manjaro xfce.
This morning I woke up with my laptop beside me with a locked screen. I entered the password I remember I setup. Wrong. I entered all usual passwords I normally use. All wrong.

So when are all of you going to admit that React.js is useless? It's awful and miserable and doesn't do anything it promises to.
It's not faster to write code, it's not cleaner, it's not easier, it's just a ton of boilerplate and it can't even handle simple animations.
If Facebook didn't create it, everyone would think it's ridiculous and stupid.. Because it is.

Apparently they knew how to program in bible (partial translation of a traditional passover song below):
If He had brought us out from Egypt,
and had not carried out judgments against them

If He had carried out judgments against them,
and not against their idols
— Dayenu, it would have sufficed!
If He had destroyed their idols,
and had not smitten their first-born
— Dayenu, it would have sufficed!
If He had smitten their first-born,
and had not given us their wealth
— Dayenu, it would have sufficed!
If He had given us their wealth,
and had not split the sea for us
— Dayenu, it would have sufficed!
If He had split the sea for us,
and had not taken us through it on dry land
— Dayenu, it would have sufficed! -

Question time:
What's the general opinion around here on Authy for 2FA?
I've been down the road of phone wipes and phone swaps before that blow out the Google Auth codes which is nothing but a royal pain in the ass to get access back to all the accounts setup.
Authy having encrypted backups gives me some level of belief they can do what I want them to do, but I figured I would ask around before transferring over since... well that's a pain in the ass too 😂15 -
Why are project/tool webpages so useless...?
I mean, whenever I hear of a new tool/project I google its name. Of course, its dedicated webpage pops up as result #1. And EVERY TIME I find them looking nice, but quite confusing, riddled with all the buzzwords, nice phrases, promises of a better tomorrow,... but I'm yet to find a tool's webpage that explains what's that tool for and how to use it at least half as concisely and clearly as that tool's README.md in its GH/GL repo.
I mean, I can read every single word in the webpage, look at every picture/diagram, every fancy gif and still in absolute majority of cases I have no clue what that tool does.
Then I go to its GH/GL repo, read the first 2 sections of its README.md (takes me what, 2-4 minutes?) and I know all I need to now about the tool.
What's the point of those fancy webpages apart from containing docs and an SEO-tuned link to a README.md...?
Useless waste of storage and computing power if you asked me.rant pretty and dumb repository projects not clear tools description buzzwords readme.md useless webpages6 -

Worst part of coding lang I love?
C# being case-sensitive.
Not a C# language thing, but I hate the vilification and anti-coding standard of not 'allowing' prefixes. Interfaces are allowed (ex. IUpdateCustomer), why not classes? Ok, so I have been lurking around here for a while now. Not at all knowing what to rant about. I like my work, I don't have to deal too much with annoying (or almost any at all) customers and all in all I feel fine.
However, I feel like I want to, in some way step into this awesome community in other ways than just comments and ++.
So this post will be about a book. It's almost our Bible. Well it's probably the closest thing to a proper part of the trilogy we will get.

`return josn(202, 'Record does not exists')`
I told the developer that, status code and description does not match.

Whats wrong in accepting that you are wrong. We do make mistakes, consciously or unconsciously. Huur. I regretted reviewing his codes there after.5 -
I need a compelling case for why we should not support IE11. Apparently 10% of our user base uses it and "it fucking sucks and breaks all the new shit you want me to do" is not an answer. And a possible HR violation.20

FUCK YOU JENKINS
The tests work everywhere just not for you
It worked before and I DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING FOR THIS TEST TO FAIL

Am I more active because I am feeling good, or is it because it's too hot here? 🤔
Anywho, giant NN classifier, come at me!
PS. I think it's gonna be a a major failure, but YOLO. 😜1 -
Don't be a dev if it's just not for you.
It's not for everyone, and you should figure this out at the very early stages of your education. The ones it's not for that still persist will hate their life. And leave their job. And leave unfinished, crappy code behind for the rest of us to clean up.3 -
Company not giving my salary on time and waiting for it to arrive. Worrying about paying rent and stuff is not doing good for my focus.1
-
As a developer there is one thing that I hate above all things in this industry and thats doing terms & conditions pages -.- smh.3

@localhost finally got around to posting my WFH space (not pictured is a Surface Book and Surface Pro 3).
@sheffter not everyone has an immaculate desk ;-)5 -
My boss telling me not to worry and be more confident, after pointing out that not updating bad ad hoc code is not a long term solution, just inspired the confidence in me to tell him to go fuck himself if shit brakes during the weekend and evenings.1

Just because I don't believe in "the mission", doesn't mean I am not coming in and not giving up to ~60% every work day.

From log debug to taking care of a whole software written by a guy who does not work in the company and did not spend any time commenting the freaking code.
The best part? The code is not finished and guys above you do not decide what needs to be done but expect stuff from you. -

today i was told that being lazy means not doing a task... and not writing a script to do a task... how preposterous
-
PHP is awesome, but it annoys me that there is no typing and that you still can get errors based on types...
Other than that, not being able to catch all errors in one catch and especially not being able to natively catch fatal errors is my biggest problem...
(not natively meaning that you can use hackish solutions but there's no "fatal error" class to use in your try catch, and you're using the register shutdown function not as intended...)8 -
Haas cnc machines have an sdk... Not only did it not work and crashed the machines, but most of the documentation was "to be added"...
-
A new way appeared in my life.
Everything related to cars, metal and motor engines.
I may or may not have to dissapoint some people with it, but I am not going to be a dev I guess.
It was all fun and chill. Do not worry. I am not going to leave this awesome place haha, just felt like mentioning it. :)8 -
Screen real estate is the first thing your device will run out of as it ages. Not the battery and not RAM.

Happy Christmas and happy new years. 2018 was not a good year for me. Many project got delayed and not happy with my performance. I wanted to learn many thing and do many things but was not able to achieve those things.
I don't even feel like enjoying my birthday anymore. (It's on 27).
Let's hope the 2019 will be better than this dumpster fuck 2018. -
I'm not the product manager. I'm not the leader. I'm not even in a lot of meetings. Why my colleagues ask me about product/development decisions?
I appreciate they about wanting to know my opinion, but when they come in a rush it is a bit stressful.
And I am not paid for that.
It might sound about selfish, but the reality is I am not one of those roles (and my salary neither) to avoid exactly this.
Whatever.
At least I can redirect them and not lead with the sublaying reasons of the doubts.1 -

If your resume lists 10 jobs and you've spent 1 year or less at each job and you were not a contractor, that is not viewed as a Good Thing. I toss those resumes in the trash.5

I just started studying and commenting did not seem so important to me because we've only written simple programs so far. Recently, a friend showed me his book and a story that was in there.
They bought a code and all the names were in Hebrew. Not so bad, if not all comments would be hebrew too. Wtf!
Now I know why commenting is important.1 -
"Take this test," they said.
I did, and scored 81/100. Not great, but not bad.
"Not bad," they said. "But you took too much time and didn't show us experience in JavaScript."
I completed all tasks in the allotted time and did them all in JavaScript. What else am I supposed to do for you people?1 -
Fuck javascript, pice of shit can't be learned without reading 50 shades of books and even SO solution don't work.

Anyone from Service Based IT Companies.? How much it really sucks to convince everyone around you about the idea you want to implement, but it cannot because the client is not happy and if he is not happy the management is also not happy. Its like we are chained to the chairs and systems, not letting us look at the outside world, where elegant solutions exists for smiple problems.

And here I am. All alone. Struggling with Angular. Not getting any help. Not getting any further. *sigh*4

Back when I was younger my first contact with the master and slave terminology was through my old windows 98 computer. It would boot up and say something about the master and slave drive doing stuff.
And this was also about around the time that the "Prince of Egypt" movie had just came out.
And so in my, oh so wise little mind, thought that the master drive was whipping the slave drive into action.
So maybe, just maybe, changing the terminology might be a good thing, because my psychotic little mind was oh too happy about the idea of a master and slave drive duking it out in my computer.2 -
Not learning web quicker, it's now the most growing thing and there are so many technologies and frameworks and I haven't had enough time to go over them. However, the only problem is some of these frameworks last a little while and die out so it's not all that bad.1

I notice something in the news network.
They can be either bias or don't take a stance.
For some topic their reporting is very bias. Only giving a single point of view and just use facts to confirm it. I call it being bias.
For topic which they can be criticize for taking either side they use the so called "expert discussion"
They gather various expert and discuss about the topics.
Start = Undecided
End = Still undecided with a lot of confusions.
Some people will call it Democratic news channel , Republican news channel. They are wrong. There is only 1 news channel since they are all the same.
I am losing trust on the news channel (which I should not be feeling)
Do you guy feel the same?4 -
Not entirely sure why I'm not excited about blockchain.
And yet, I see job postings related to it everywhere.
What's so special about it?3 -
Having a senior DBA can save hours if not days of struggle and save your back, if you do not know well enough how to do a more complicated query yet, without fucking up something.
Good guidance and experience is worth so much.
... and no I do not have the rights to drop databases.1 -
NOT A RANT:
I am switching my job and they have workstations and I have to buy a laptop.
Can any body suggest a good hp laptop for development with not high price.9 -
Using bootstrap modals in an angular project and using the same spelling for ng-modal and not knowing why I'm not getting my model data for hours

Work load, bug fixes, plenty of errors, back and neck pain and eye strain does not irritate me as much as HRs not responding to your emails.

I just wish I could determine what I want as a reference and what I want as a value in JavaScript. I hate not being able to determine it myself and be constrained by a spec while not having any other language to use (no I'm not gonna use webassembly for everything).6
-
I heard I should not allow users to inject arbitrary text into my webpage without sanitizing it. Is it a clean solution to just eval it on the (node) server, and if it runs not post it because it's obviously JS and not just text?
Any opinions on that?11 -
You know it's friday when you don't know how to name a file and you end up with: call-not-api.js... cause call-api is taken and it's not really an api

Slave labour.
I work in software testing and I hate it. Also my job is full of Indians and while I am not racist, I just hate working with them, bunch of soulless robots. I mean I guess I should be grateful that I am not overly stressed or jobless during those difficult times but there's 0 passion in what I do and seems like most companies are not happy about my career shift since I'm not getting hired anywhere else.19 -
I tried to make a post with a picture, but it did not work. I even scaled it down to 25kb and decreased resolution heavily. Tried png and jpg. The hell is it not working from desktop and from a phone?2

Finally back at devRant :/

Good company refuced my contracting service. Fuck that. And reasons do not sound good to tell - like team did not want me anymore, maybe too dificult project, I am not independent enough, too many fixes after code reviews. This sucks that I do not know how to fix those parts, I have tried. And about too dificult project - how can I do better on dificult projects, I am not sure. There are projects of similar dificulty in most companies. And if projects would be easy, then everyone does that and reward would be small.18

random rant:
as much as I like manjaro, and antergos is very nice looking, and sometimes arch bang is just easy and good:
they are not arch. yes they are arch-based. but you are not an arch user. you are a manjaro/antergos user. please do not call yourself arch users. and especially do not ask questions in the arch forums. all of these arch-based distros have their own forums for a reason.
that is all...3 -
Its annoying. Spent again hour trying to make run my symfony app with docker - and fucking does not work and is not clear why. Why this fucking docker is so unclear? Like does not see autoload.php file but I see it installed. Idiot docker.5

What is better for a Junior position front end or backend? I like both and I don't want to apply to full stack positions cause it's exhaustive and salary not worth it and not good as a starting point for a dev journey.14

-> Not completing database structure and realizing it in the middle of project execution.
-> not using version control

Obviously ai and autodocument recognition and data extraction is not usable yet
Excepting when it's a pdf not a scanned document or image
Ocr may be but shift the whole.image or bend it or remove a border from some white out
And then handwritten
