"Hacking your wifi network" and asking me to stop is rather unneccessary25 -
So this happened today.
Client: hey I sent this ticket, what's the status/have you located the issue?
Me: well, it says it quite obviously in the error message...? (i actually said that, toned down afterwards a little)
Client: where's the error message then?
Me: 5th line....? It's literally there in plain english?
Client: ok so what does it mean?
Me:..............? "marked as spam by the receiving server"?!
Client: yeah ok but what does that mean?
😐
Thing to keep in mind: they're a web dev/email solutions company.

Sometime I’m developing in Rust and I do something wrong.
Then I look at the terminal and it says...
“You did X, did you mean to do Y”
Then I do it and it works perfectly, and I’m like...
Why do I even have a job if the compiler is this good?10 -
When I said make that text italic, I didn’t mean to make it green, white, and red. That’s Italian.2
-
Teacher: "Whats that key thingy?"
Class: "You mean the keyboard?"
Teacher: "Yes, that one!"
I shit you not, she was my IT educator for a year.

I miss my old ZenBook with Linux 😔
I mean, the MacBook is great, but it feels like I left my old simple gf who loved me for a Hollywood sexy bitch who doesn't give a fuck11 -
Graduation is tomorrow and I get to decorate my cap...
I felt really mean sawing off the I/O but it weighed too much.7 -
Me: "My PC is sad what should i do? "
Tech-Support: "what do you mean your PC is sad"
i wonder whose(developer) idea was it to put just smiley instead of meaningfull error...9 -

Coffee. I love it.
But with that, I mean *coffee*.
No I don't want a fucking cappucino or a latte or a whatever-the-fuck you call it that is coffee mixed with something not-coffeeish.
I love *coffee* and I want my coffee black and strong as fuck without any bullshit added to it.47 -
Hi, I've tried to open this strange Hard Disk, I was wondering if it was an old model.
I mean, I can't find a cable to use!22 -
My life would be so much easier if I could just consistently spell lenght, I mean, lentgh, I mean length DAMN IT!11

When i said i'll deliver a feature by end of the day, they thought it after 5. But what i really mean is 11.59pm9

I wish not to have seen this... And they are using a personal lisence... :/
I mean, if you are using for commercial purpose, then fucking pay for it!3 -
Just discovered a terminal replacement for windows... And its fine as hell.
It's called cmder and it's got tons and I mean TONS of options to make it perfect for you!21 -
I've had this amazing piece of advice as my Desktop wallpaper ever sense it popped up on r/programmerHumor. I mean I still don't write clean code, but now I know to be prepared for the fucker!2

I am pretty sick of people treating developers like forever alone geeks that roam the internet 24/7
I mean I am one but my point stands..
It does !2 -
"The CRM has this address wrong" - Client

"When I start typing the business name it autofills wrong" - Client
"You mean Chrome is auto-completing from a previous typo you entered, and you're blaming the software? That'll be $100 for Chrome training." - Me -
I hate Linux so much. I mean, how could anyone of you barbarians like it??
I don't understand the hate for windows. It's secure, emphasizes privacy, and it's Microsoft. What's not to love?
Linux is just proprietary malware.26 -
This is a rant.
I'd rather say go fuck yourself. I mean whatever the fuck you mean by block chain programming? Found a word and start adding random words to it and start learning it? I mean who the fuck wants to program AI in HTML? (Seen somewhere else)10 -
1: Man did you see the latest windows build fucked up design?
2: What are you mean?
1: I MEAN NOT ALIGNING REFRESH BUTTON ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PRESS IT.
2: What??? Where???5 -
“What do you mean undeclared function?, it’s right there”
5 mins checking everything....
“oh I haven’t spelt it right.....”4 -
Dear friends and family, just because I'm a devloper does not mean I know how to fix all of your IT issues. I am not IT.8

New Equipment 🤗🤗🤗♥️
I mean, thats a fucking UltraWide Display -- and it seems to be small beneath the tv 😂😂17 -
To whom it may concern,
When I say I use Linux, please do not presume that I mean Ubuntu or other Debian derivates. If you send me instructions like 'apt-get update' you are not being helpful.
Thank you.6 -
Everything but UI/UX
Because I suck at it, lame but true, I love every kind of code, from MEAN and LAMPP to assembly, but when it comes to UI I just lack of the imagination and creativity to design something that looks averagely good.6 -
Holy shit I never realised how frustrating it is to code for a client the way they want it... I mean I just want to go back to coding for fun4

Whenever I Google Ajax it gives me search results related to the Amsterdam soccer team called ajax. I mean really Google, I search for webdev related stuff all day and you give me this...7

Guy: - "Your restart script doesn't work."
Me: - "What do you mean?"
Guy: - "It does nothing."
Me: - "It should kill every processes that's running within the project and start them again. Wait... Why do you terminate it?"
Guy: - "I don't. It just stops."
Me: - "It says `Terminated` here. You killed it. Just let it do it's job, don't kill it."
Guy: - "I'm not killing it! It just stops!"
(...two hours later...)
Me: - "Wait... Where do you run it from?"
Guy: - "What do you mean? I just run the script you gave me."
Me: - "Yeah, but where do you run it from? Where did you put it?"
Guy: - "It's part of the project so I put it in the project, d'oh!"11 -
Oh it is a hard disk
Shit I mean was... 😂
Btw, I tried to make a face out of those 2 platters and the magnet. :35 -
As a PhD student, I do not dare have hobbies. I mean, I don't exactly have time for it. I could make time for it, but then the phd would take forever.

I've noticed a weird bug with the Google Assistant swapping the scores when you ask it about sports.

what was the first Rant in devrant? 🤔
I mean, how the first user(s) was convinced to use devrant if he opens it and finds the timeline empty?11 -
Sometimes it feels like I'm not as passionate towards coding as I was before. Seeing bright-eyed juniors with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge makes me wish I could feel the same again. I mean I still like it and all, but it's just not the same.8
-
Being a programmer for a while now it always irritates me to try to explain what I'm working on to friends and family. I forget what I knew before I developed. I'm always like "I made the strings in the database- oh I mean the words...well they're actually more like strings of letters- well anyway I made a code to sanitize the user input- I mean make it so it is secure before uhhh saving." I spend so much time watering what I'm saying down I forget what I'm talking about
It's not even funny. It'd be funny if one single person in my family or friend group understood what I meant to some degree.3 -
Why is it HTTPS instead of SHTTP. I mean, apple doesn't call it the Phonei. Oh wait, just looks at "SHTTP" again... now I know why.4
-
Being a self taught programmer ( self teaching? don't know the continuous form :P) , I get really frustrated when my friends encounter a problem and just give up , I mean come on , Google it , ask on SO , ughhhhhhhh7

A friend sent me this saying that this has windows on it, I put it in my computer to show him that it doesn't work
Now my PC doesn't power on
I mean WTF
WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO NOW45 -
Shopping with my girlfriend when I spot this. Nobody to see for miles. Guess this wouldn't pose a problem, would it? I mean it wouldn't say secure Id, if it wasn't secure...?10

When you're feeling extra 'peechy' debugging coworker's crap.. I mean code..

I hate libre office and every other office suite on linux.
There, I said it.
It is the cancer of linux. I had a presentation today ant it just kept crashing. It changed all my master slides.
It drives me SOOOOO crazy.
(PS. HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO EMBED FONTS INTO A PPTX. I MEAN COMEON!23 -
Fact, that I am making websites does NOT mean, that I will make a website for you for free. Why it is so hard for people to understand?2

So did CCleaner basically became an malware? I mean it even recreates autostart item if you remove it!

Most favorite: Intellij IDEA
Least favorite: Intellij IDEA
I mean, once Maven and stuff are set it's perfect. But, damn, configuring it on a new computer...3 -
I'm having difficulty treating HR like human beings. I mean yes I spammed you to fetch me my payslip but why didn't you check why I am not getting it automatically from the first time? And your response is you are busy and HR requests take a minimum of 48 hours to process? THE FUCK? I mean how hard can it be to type my ID in the system and send me my payslip.
I really need to learn how to "play nice" before I get in trouble.3 -
Just because I have not written any code yet, does not mean I have not started on your project. I can either plan it well or let the code flow from my fingers like diarrhea.
-
I think javascript is a great language, but it has some really ugly parts.
For some reason, it really annoys me that JS developers are ok with things like
if (typeof something === "undefined")
I mean, comparing strings like that!3 -
I swear I hate seeing these wannabe programmers sharing their shit content on social media. I mean, I respect people who are getting into programming and giving it their best. But one just doesn't write "Fuck Types" when talking about a Dart. I mean, atleast open the introduction page of that language before you jump and start giving people "pro tips". Stop skimming over technologies/languages and dive a bit deep to understand how it works.9
-
Not necessarily a "language" per se, but goddamn do I love git's rebase function. I mean, that shit lets you rewrite history!
Just imagine how the world would change if we could do a rebase on it. 🤔2 -
I always love it when a manager who has no coding background tells me to "just do this" without ever letting me do any research. Just because you see it in you favorite app does not mean that feature is trivial.1
-
I don't know why universities dont tech version controlling.. i used to save backups of my final year project as a RAR files. I mean when I started the job and got to know the git. It was enlightening..7
-
Well, I am now in a commited relationship with devRant.
Just deleted facebook, mainly because it was draining me, MY BATTERY, my battery I mean. And also was not using that old serpant.1 -
Whenever tech support answers "yes, i can help you with that sir",
what they really mean is "no, but i will google it for you" -
Ok so this is my first rant. I'm 16 years old. Have had some experience with Python and AI and I want to pursue it. But, I'm in class 12 and all my teacher teaches me is how to open a frickin file in python. I mean I have begged her to tach me Django but she's like no no child we only study what's in the syllabus. I mean it's so frustrating17
-
I fucking hate having to name something.
I mean it should be short, easy to memorize and sum up the project.
Fuck it... Proto0 it is5 -
One of my professors made us submit Hand Written codes. I mean writing, compiling, executing on the machine, and then writing by hand on paper to submit.
It was so irritating.2 -
So it turns out that the iPhone X was one of the most popular christmas gifts this year in Norway. I mean fucking hell, how is that even possible given the price?1
-
I am scared... I'm scared because the code works.. but it shouldn't work I mean it's not supposed to get triggered and I have no idea what triggers it. It feels like my program got cursed and started doing things on it's own. I even put up blocks to stop the function from triggering but it still works... It always works.. I am scared...7
-
If you’re stuck in hell, I mean, Webpack, try parcel. I was skeptical until I used it, and it’s just magical1

This post is stole from 9gag. I didn't watch infinity war till now. I don't know what that mean with Thanos but I liked it. So i wanna share it on devrant :/
This will kills your RAM.7 -
I think the report rant function should have a verification function. Like asking me if I'm sure I want to report this rant.
I just reported a rant I didn't mean to, because I wanted to mute notifications on it3 -
Reactive Java.
I actually rather like it, I really do. But the shift in mindset required, and the limited advantages (especially with fibres under heavy development) both mean I think it's incredibly unlikely to last.5 -
It's been a week since I last deployed the app and no bugs or errors reported by the client so far :)
What do you mean it doesn't count if the client isn't using the app? Ofc it does, fuck you >:(1 -
Is it bad that I kind of don't like using DuckDuckGo as a search engine?
I mean, I use it cause duh privacy. But when it comes to search results- google always gets what I want-
Jesus that kinda sucks why can't i get both10 -
So Huawei got pretty much nuked by Google.
I wonder if it's going to stick because it would mean they're pretty much out of the smartphone game if I understand it right8 -
Just because my title has "Web" in it, doesn't mean I signed up to solve all your marketing analytics issues - there's a whole department for that stuff! 😡
-
One of the devs at my internship company decided to have a client's website load all of it's pages from the website's Database.
That's right, a PAGE as a database row!
And I don't mean having it get some of the info from the columns and putting it into the page's html with php or some shit. No, I mean an actual html file copy pasted and added into the database.
This company scares me sometimes.1 -
We have this kettle that says "perfect memory" on the box, so does that mean it has ecc I would hate for a bit flip to occur and it make my tea too hot.2

Bash
Has pretty much everything you may need, except for a TCP/UDP server functionality.
I mean, if it has a built-in TCP client -- why not create simplistic TCP server?
WHY???21 -
Is it a bad idea to learn about cracking from the dark web? I mean they seem like they know their shit with security5

Is it real that github are changing master to main? Does this mean I need to call my dungeon master main now? She’s not going to be happy...6

Any stargate fans on here? Can we talk like one minute about stargate origins? It's like. I mean. Fuck. Is it really that bad or am I missing a huge part?12 -
Can't we just write rants in html? I mean I'm enjoying devRant really well so far but adding html tags and so would make me love it here even more13

You should really really really not use sha 1 or worse anymore. I mean, for real now. Please, stop it. https://shattered.it2

What does it mean when one day you are fighting management on every decision and then suddenly they agree with everything you say?
Have I been victim of brainwashing?3 -
Swift let's you use most Unicode characters as variable names. But that doesn't mean you should do it.
I just found this in the code base:
let π = M_PI
FML -
Me: I can't debug it.
Computer: You wanna talk about it?
Me: What do you mean?
Computer: I have p*rn. -
One thing that really bothers me is that people use use megabyte to mean mebibyte. What makes it even worse is that Windows does it too. It says it shows gigabyte but actually shows gibibyte.
Now imagined my frustration when I saw this D:13 -
I really love Linux, but i GODDAMN HATE, how nearly no Distro supports installing it on a Custom LVM.
I mean, i just want to have a custom LVM, inside of an encrypted Partition in other Distros than Ubuntu, Debian or Opensuse.1 -
In 3 years, my antivirus software NEVER made a sound. But I'm pretty sure I visited some nasty websites this whole time and download many viruses.
Does it mean my antivirus never worked?1 -
I'm curious, what was the most ridiculously otherworldly, the least understandable, eye-opening code you have every seen?
BUT, I mean that in a good way. And what did you learn from it?
For me personally, I would probably say some of the c++ stdlib implementations. Just totally not English in some places. I mean seriously, sometimes asm is more readable than c++15 -
Am I the only one that doesn't like Java? I mean I don't hate it or say it's bad. It's pretty clear that it has been probably the most influential language after C. I just don't like how typed and verbose it is, also I feel old just using it or something based on it (like Jenkins)13
-
To the JS devs (not all of course, but to many of them), look here: ;
Is it so hard to do? ;
I feel like you don’t use semicolons just to mess with non-JS devs...
Just because it works without, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be used...
It’s as if i would stop using dots Just because I can it doesn’t mean it’s the way to go
It’s just making it more complicated for others to understand
Especially if the code looks like the spaghetti monster vomited into the IDE!21 -
"Wow! Programming must be easy! Why did you charge us costly?"
Just because I work at home and talking to myself does not mean it easy...
PS. even now I still feel like noob in programming5 -
Am I the only one who thinks OSX is stupidly insecure unless you encrypt the whole disk? I mean, how dumb is it to boot into safe moot and provide a root shell without prompting for credentials?26
-
Oh my gosh. Windows is...eh..
I mean, it is outdated and slow, has bugs and many other stuff, but do you know why I use it? It is widely supported.
Compare application support on Mac or Linux! It is nothing compared to Windows.
However, I will still have to deal with it for a very very long time...3 -
Looking around for a new job when I find a posting that asks for experience developing and testing webpages with Dreamweaver... I mean yeah back 15 years ago I used it but I didn't even know it was still around... Maybe they meant Frontpage
-
They did it. They really did it.
Oh my... I can't believe it.
I suggested app admins find a way to enable keep-alive in the app. And they installed it.
I mean it. KeepAlive_setup_v1.4.msi is what I found on the desktop.
Next, I feel like suggesting to download more RAM... After this stunt, I wouldn't even be surprised.....2 -
People say they don't remember 10 years back.
Sh*t, I don't even remember this code. I mean, I wrote it like yesterday3 -
Does anyone really like JavaScript as a language?
I mean i like working with it because you can build a lot of creative and cool stuff with it, but i find the language itself to be hacky, wierd and too complex.17 -
Neo4j has to be the most well documented price of software after Linux... I mean ...holy shit! It is so fucking well documented!! I actually feel ashamed of the documentation I wrote this last week..1
-
I don't think "main" is the best replacement for "master" on GitHub, I mean Git already uses branches so why not continue with the whole tree analogy and call it the "root" branch?15

Can anyone explain what is the story of Rick and Morty?
I mean the themes, storylines, etc.
And is it an adult animation?
Can teens watch it? (is there any 18+ materials, adult jokes...)14 -
It's so early but i'm brimming with excitement and need to share...
I might be going NUCLEAR guys!
In the very literal sense, don't overthink it (and no i don't mean blowing stuff up, and no i don't mean boomer fiSsiOn, I mean the real stuff - fusion!)8 -
I mean JavaScript is all cool and everything, but without type safety, it becomes gigantic pain in my ass :'(
Is there anybody who feels the same? :(9 -
How is it security, a function of IT, does not understand developers? I mean, they work in IT, should not at least pick-up on the culture?3
-
Does devRant really need a downvote button? I mean if a post is offensive just report it. I don't really see someone saying a post is bad. If a post is bad I just ignore it.9

Don't you hate it when the designer uses a blend mode on a visual inside Photoshop or Sketch. I mean, I can't export this for web...4

Wtf does DevOps engineer even mean. I checked job listings it mostly feels like a sysadmin with a bit of automation.4

Boss says: Why is our email not working get it to work again.

I called it TextPaste, or was it VidPaste 🤔. Anyways, it was an attempt to promote my laziness in copying code from YouTube videos or images by using text recognition. I called my coding style "Lazy Art," 😂. It was completed....sorta. I mean, it worked sometimes....5

Cross time-zone design reviews are brutal! Feeling super exhausted, explaining shit I designed feels like torture! I mean, just get it!

I'm quite shocked today after receiving an email which acknowledges me with so much respect that I cannot handle, I mean this has never happened in my entire life, I can't even handle it2

Is it mean to tell someone you can't help them with their coding problem because you can't take the way they smell?
A coworker of mine has some major BO mixed with cigarette smoke and it makes it hard to focus as I try to help me.
Am I an asshole?14 -
Do you guys actually name your computers? I mean I don't call mine - but I named it - "Momo"
Or some neat ideas? :D14 -
Am I the only one who doesn't really see feel or need as an insult? Geek means someone who "messed around" with tech and need is someone who is smart. Why do people get offended by it? I mean, I get that people mean it offensively but is it really something to get that upset about? If someone was to call me a geek or need. Imma walk with my head high and own it.9

I've mistyped "tests" as "testes" so many times now I'm beginning to think it doesn't really matter.
Investigate failing testes.
Added testes for xyz feature.
Everyone understands what I mean. It's all good.4 -
it FUCKING annoys me like hell that in the year of 2017 powershell cannot display more than 16 colors and output unicode symbols properly!
i mean.. fuck that shit!4 -
My MEAN stack study is about 75% now but then I keep on getting some new cool things like integration of NestJS and Redux in the MEAN stack.
MEAN Stack - a very big steep learning curve but I like it.1 -
How do I get through tough dev days ?
If by tough day we mean a day where I'm really not feeling it or the like, I don't.
I let it pass by me though music or doing something I enjoy doing, or something random but interesting.
If we mean that the task at hand during that day is tough, then there's no escaping it unless you want to risk losing your job, and I can't afford losing my job. So I ask for help, try to do it one little thing at a time. little progress is better than no progress. -
Can't stop gaming. I mean if
I put my heart to it I can learn anything I want within a few months but just can't resist the urge to boot up Witcher 3 every night.2 -

!!rant?
Okay everyone...
So is "!rant" supposed to mean "NOT rant" like I think it is, or is it somehow the opposite of that like half the devRanters using the !rant tag think?
Let's settle this.4 -

I recently came across gitlab (ye, because of the bad news). And I was wondering what are some good points to make me use gitlab? I mean, it is basically the same as github. Just younger.7 -

Manager: Hi
Manager: Do you know anything about this? <screenshot.jpg>
Me: Hi
Manager: Oh, I didn't mean to disturb you this late
Me: *what....? Then what DID you mean by writing to me at my bedtime....?*
(Though it's good he pinged me - it was a valid and time-sensitive concern. But saying "I didn't mean to" - that's just not true. Call a spade a spade and spit out what you need)10 -
Out of 24 hours in the day it takes 10 seconds to accept a delivery. How come the delivery person knocks on the door precisely at the same moment I sit down on a pooper..? I mean, it must be a law of nature or smth. It can't be a coincidence...1

Am I the only one that keeps mistyping & mispronouncing Magneto when I mean Magento?
Can't count how many times I've scratched my head because I got search results pointing at Sabayon Linux's wiki when enquiring about it...1 -
Does this mean devRant has no icon for Pie apps switcher?
Or is it only happening to me?
// I really miss the old stacked design btw. Not a big fan of Android P.18 -
Just had a web dev newbie crack a MEAN pun and tell me "Learning it is so MEAN lol". Should i tell him he's only about the 1230193848 x 10^6th person to crack that joke?

Who else shouts at their code when you are trial and erroring it? And by shout I mean hard core yell at, insult and maybe even spit at the screen.3

can we agree that T is a dumb variable name?
I mean I totally know what it means in that instance, but why do people keep writing math stuff like they'd skribble it on paper?8 -
rumor has it dfox and trogus are abandoning their jobs to prioritize adding stories to devRant.
i mean, a social network without stories? sounds incredibly stupid and irrational to me8 -
Just caught my free antivirus software doing advertisement for another antivirus. I mean like making myself obsolete just because I'm getting the money for it? xD

Why is it so damn hard to integrate an external api into Android in a non messy non tedious way... I mean yes I'm new to this but it's unnecessarily tough..

Ranting in the office about co-workers whilst drunk. Ooph. I mean nothing bad happens but it just feels bad afterwards.
-
So you're telling me that I can rant about my coding experience here and get stuff for that too.
I mean where has this been my whole coding life😂
P.S. If you do like it please rant on it😊6 -
I cannot get my head around this comment
Does it mean write to console with "caution"? Or is it an obscure tribute to Dragonlance?5 -
Is it appropriate in terms of time, to learn c as your first language?
I mean, some of my classmates prefer to use python or java as their first language.
Help please, I need help9 -
Ever reach a point where nothing seems to matter anymore ? I mean it does but you’re in a situation where everyone is just mindlessly repeating the same bullshit endlessly ?7
-
I don't know whether this has been asked before but is it normal for devs to copy/paste code? I feel like half of the programming I do is copy pasting code. I mean, I know what I'm doing. I'm just lazy to type it out.7

Really pissed of about FlutterDev reddit community, where you find people tath hate and dislike when you share video tutorials.

I mean I know I could use the API to receive the avatar (haven't looked into it yet) or even scratch it off profile pages, but something like

Why aren't there more programming languages out there that aren't derived from English?
We're in the age of universal UTF-8 support, if it was meant to be then it should be happening now.

I mean, we should be more inclusive and allow other flavours of JavaScript that aren't based on English across browser, right? Otherwise that would mean that English is the master language of the web.

Recommended PHP ORM?
Had a couple bad experiences with Sequelize (I know it's JS, save it). Also, I'd like to try the decorators pattern. I'm also looking for good (and I mean GOOD) relationships management (you are allowed ONE pun about it).

Hey web devs out there!
I have a question that I couldn't get an answer too.
I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 and lamp stack for my web development.
And now I've taken a course on Mean stack. So now I want to install the related server i.e node. But as you might see I already have Apache as a server.
Now I don't want to replace the lamp stack completely with mean stack. I want it to be there and working.
I also want to install and run mean stack.
So my question is how should I go about installing node server and related technologies? Multiple servers will give a problem for me or how should I solve it?
I saw something like using a different port for node. But I couldn't completely understand. So any help is appreciated.
Thanks!7 -
Or when I get a jira task and I spend more trying to understand what the fuck is it supposed to mean than actually solving it.

Is client side rendering really that bad? Do you prefer sites without any JavaScript or are you ok with it?
To me it's very convenient to have JS in very dynamic pages. For things like documentation I think server side rendered pages are good enough. I mean it's 2017, right? Do we really need to care for those who deactivate JS? I mean I really like it to separate the front end backend.
What do you think?6 -

Dynamic/Dynamically is used WAY to much in programming. What part of programming is NOT dynamic?
https://dictionary.com/browse/...
Depending upon your interpretation of the definition it can just mean: moving parts. Programming is all about moving parts.
I see things like "dynamically allocated array". Wtf does that even mean? (I get it, most likely means on heap) Say it specifically: it was allocated on the stack or the heap.
Apparently some people are just more energetic in their programming...
It becoming a really overused buzzword...8 -
