For real though, to each their own in the end.
I accept MacOS for development, but Apple hardware is just price gouging.51 -
Rules for server newbees:
1. Never just copy paste stuff from the internet into your console.
-- End --18 -
People who use drag and drop website builders and call themselves front end developers should just die!8
-
When something goes wrong at work, my boss will blame the first dev in his vicinity ...
Boss: "what the hell happened? why are the servers down?! This is unacceptable! Blah blah etc etc"
Me: "I dunno. Let me review if my CSS had anything to do with it" 😑😩4 -
"could you please just use the standard messaging/social networking thingies? That way it'll be way easier to communicate!!"
Oh I don't mind using standard tools/services which everyone uses at all.
Just a few requirement: they don't save information that doesn't need to be saved, leave the users in control of their data (through end to end encryption for example) and aren't integrated in mass surveillance networks.
Aaaaaand all the standard options which everyone uses are gone 😩30 -
Just finished reading this gem from start to end. It is over 20 years old and it is crazy how it is still up to date and applicable. Great work.8
-
My boss just told me that he wants me to stay and is giving me a permanent position :D my contract would have ended by the end of this month otherwise! :D6
-
The number of people using high end versions of mac just for working on some spreadsheet and watching videos on youtube is just too damn high..15
-
Just finished all the form function, time to clean up I guess.
Did you guys like to write it clean from start or do it later at the end?38 -
do we have to use git/version control software? why cant we just mail everyone else the builds at the end of the day?5

If y'all need a lil help with clients and conversating, here's my personal way of ending conversations. Just acknowledge it! (If all else fails, take things into consideration)
Friend: I hear that the most viewed youtube video ever is now despacito
> I acknowledge that
*conversation end*
Co-worker: I love my new shoes!
> I acknowledge that
*end*
Hot girl: hey sexy, you're looking fine today
> I acknowledge that
*end*
Client: hey could you add x?
> No
*end*
Sibling: you're adopted
> I acknowledge that
*end*
(Consideration example)
Windows: I will update
> I will take that into consideration
*end*
trogus: I will make a line of debugging ducks with capes with their respective language on it
dfox: I acknowledge that
*end*
Bus driver: sir please wake up the busses are closed
> I acknowledge that *sleeps*
*end*
Python: wrong amount of tabs/spaces
> I acknowledge that *uninstalls python*
*end*
devRant: you are running out of characters for this rant

I've put my nose down the books regarding cryptology quite alot lately, and at the end of the day, I really think that Bob and Alice should just meet and talk in person.4
-
When you build a website with full CMS and you end up taking care of the content because your client "just can't be bothered"...2
-
So... Facebook just stated that they plan on loosening up the End-to-end encryption in WhatsApp to analyze the messages and show user-specific advertisements.
Time to uninstall WhatsApp I guess!21 -
Recruiter: are you interested in a client side java role?
Me: yes, here is my client side resume please submit me
Recruiter: sorry the hiring manager said they are looking for more of a back-end engineer
Me: you told me it was a client side role, please resubmit me with my back-end geared resume
Recruiter: yes that's correct, it's client side, we'll keep you in mind for the future but you should know there is a difference between mobile devs and web devs
Me: what you just said is not relevant to this conversation. I would be happy to discuss the diff between front-end and back-end, client vs server, etc.
Recruiter: I'm just relaying what the hiring manager is saying to me
Me: your [lack of] ability to relay technical information is quite apparent :/
*lesson learned*: interview recruiters before they start interviewing me
Unbelievable waste of time, how do these people even make a living? FML!16 -
I just recently started my first job as a full stack programmer (still studying at university). I got assigned one month to code a complete front end to our api. Now, 4 days before release day the owner of the company makes breaking changes to the api.
Just. Beautiful.1 -
So IT just blocked all web browsers at work apart from internet explorer.....
I have been using it for 2 hours and I think I'm about ready to end it all....17 -
its 2016, and they still believe that office skillz are enough for CS101..
boy u have to allocate memory in runtime without leaks by end of semester, not just make a text bold with a fancy font..2 -
Imagine a person in 2020 meeting a time traveller from 2030.
— man, this pandemic sucks
— yeah, it's just the first year though
— the first what?
— yeah, pandemic didn't even end until the war
— until the WHAT?13 -
I just f*cking hate front-end. I don't care what it looks like as long as it's working how it should.16
-
It's crazy to me how much of a misguided superiority complex some CS college kids have.
"I'd never learn Python, that's just for kids"
"Front end is so easy, it's just HTML and making things look pretty"9 -
Girl I work with says she's going to make a change on the "back-end of the website"... logs into Wordpress... no comment, just keep swimming1
-
Told the new hire that for the first week they can just familiarise themselves with the JS framework, do the tutorials, and read through the code / docs.
Boss comes by Tuesday morning "you should be finished with all the tutorials by the end of the day"
Looks like we're throwing him in the deep end!
Context: new dev has Java and 3d games background. Our app is full stack JS7 -
Everyday I wake up, I just think where did humanity go wrong? What mistakes were made? How the fuck did we end up with IE? And why do people still use it?5
-
Interviewer: So which university are you from?
Me: I am from "foo" university.
Interviewer: So why did you not go to "bar" university?
Inner Me: Wtf kind of a question is that. Why the fuck aren't you a unicorn with pigs flying out of your ass and a globally reknowned researcher at Stanford?
We all end up where destiny takes us. Some of us try very hard but things don't magically happen for us. We keep trying but at the end of the day you end up where you end up.
Real Me: I just finished my High School and had the entry test the next day. I was not prepared at all.4 -
I just realized that my fucking boss managed to put a back end dev to do front end and a front end dev to make an api.
So me and the front end dev are constantly asking each other stuff instead of doing the fucking job properly because it isn't the subject that we like/spend our free time learning.
Although I understand that its good to have some "full stack" knowledge I also understand that my ui/ux is gonna suck while his api is gonna suck :)5 -
Last night I nearly finished my portfolio site. I was working on the perfect framework and workflow like forever. But in the end I accomplished a pretty pleasing solutions. For the back-end I choose Laravel with it's built in rest-api, the front-end is managed by Vue. I'm also proud of my assets-management which is handled by Gulp + Webpack (Laravel Mix). But here I decided to run Gulp on images, fonts and CSS and let Webpack bundle the JavaScript.
And what really crawls my balls is that I can write Sass and Jade, even use partials and organized the shit out of this website, and let Gulp just vomit some minified HTML and CSS on the other end.
Man that feels so good.20 -
!rant
Here is a challenge for all programmers.
When you make a mistake, instead of backspacing or correcting, just comment out and redo. And then see the result at the end.11 -
Why its so hard to understand that - not always... - frontend devs will give you a sweet ui with medium back end and back end devs are gonna give you a medium ui with sweet back end?
Why can't we just do what nature made us good for and work in collaboration?
Fuck7 -
WTH?! I just installed Windows on a high end laptop and fiber connection in under 20 minutes.
Nobody told me this is how people in first-world countries lived!!12 -
Just spent 10+ hours refactoring a code, and at the end I've figure it out a one line fix to the problem... just wasted 10 hours of my life.. :)7
-
Me : "hey front end dev, here is an API returing a list of objects, put them in a table"
*Some hours later
Front end : 'Done !"
Me :" Where are the totals?"
front end : 'Api doesn't give me totals"
me : "Calculate them. Just do a sum"
front end : 'I don't know how".
Yeah, "front end" apprently means only html css.... FML23 -
Just bought my first physical server for a cheap price second hand. It's a low end thing but hey, you've got to start somewhere, right!4
-
Today for the 4th time I explained to my colleague that just because the front end app can perform validation doesn't mean the backend shouldn't. Every fucking time for all of them.8
-
Sometimes when I can't find an error, I just rewrite the problematic code. Often I end up solving the error and having cleaner code. Win win.3
-
Wow I hate VBA... What a fucking shitty syntax:
For x in y
...
Next x
If x Then
...
ElseIf y Then
...
End If
While z
...
Wend
WTF even is this? Wend? WTH! Why can't you just use a End While? For fuck sake I hate this language31 -
My love for web development has come to an end, I'm no longer enjoying it but sadly I can't just get up and leave work 🤷♂️7
-
Oh yeah that shouldn't take too long right? I mean it's just the front end.
No shut your fucking dumb ass mouth up. It will take long. The front end is very complicated, and your stupid fucking ass who couldn't learn to code is in no position to estimate how long it will take. Do us all a favor and stick to the "business" side. Fucking incompetent idiot.
If you're not a programmer, when it comes to estimating how long a task will take. Just shut the fuck up. Just cause you work in this industry does not qualify you to estimate a task. Just shut the fuck up.1 -
Who invented the open space office layout? If you're as unlucky as me, you end up sitting next to the protein junkie who pops open a tin of tuna mixed with some other shit that's there just because it smells horrible almost hourly, or you end up next to the PM whose desk is gossip central and by the end of the day you know "Sheila" is sleeping with her brother in law, and "Steve" has a tiny weiner.6
-
Sometimes I just hit a "developer's block", when I'm just blankly staring at my screen wondering where did I start and how did I end up here!?
It is hell frustrating!!!6 -
Every time I want to learn new technology I spend whole day just installing and reinstalling and then I end up with reinstalling whole linux, because 1 lil' thing doesn't work. Am I alone?5
-
Software developers are like a toilet. Just trying to do their damn job, but end up taking everyone's shit.
-
The most awaited death happens. The death of 2016!
My fellow devRanters, have a peaceful and a blessed new year. And if you are single, just like me, let our streak end this year! Haha! -
Just discovered a major bug in a frontend app of ours that might have been collecting wrong data in a form for months already :)
That is what happens when you put a back end Dev to do front end and back end while demanding rework every fucking 2 days for 9 months straight.4 -
So, packing up and leaving this hell hole.
In the end I just said that I had 2 panic attacks in the last week, and that I am leaving for medical reasons.3 -
Is it just me or every other back end dev that has this weird habit of trying to guess the back end used in every website you visit ?5
-
Dear every single Samsung owner I see, if you spend $200+ on a life proof case but still end up with your screen and back smashed... I think you have bigger problems than just a smashed phone...3
-
Ok so everyone knows the "error after file end" BUT I JUST GOT AN ERROR IN A FILE THAT DOESNT EXIST.
WHAT THE FUCK UNITY. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.1 -
Why is it that everytime, as a back-end developer, I want to dive into a simple front-end topic or technique which can perfectly be done in plain JavaScript, I need 27 different libraries and packages according to nearly all tutorials..
It really crushes my motivation and is just ridiculous.6 -
So I just removed Facebook on my phone as a way to detach myself from the app since it was taking over my life, I think I'm gonna be better in the end...maybe...3
-
I'm really trying to give js a chance. I really wanna get this front end done. But this is just Bullshit.23
-
That's it, I'm fucking done with this fucking bullshit of a year, really, everyone is fucking dying, just end already11
-
After months of complex backend code, and complex JS front-end, the idea of CSS just bores me now.2
-
COBOL is something I use at work. Typically, you see IF blocks like this
IF condition
Stuff
END-IF.
But the END-IF part if actually optional. You can just use a period and it does the same thing.
IF condition
Stuff.
Many headaches if not caught when reading.6 -
"get lost"
The fucker was just saying he would not help me, but in the end I should have taken the advice literally and got the fuck out of that fucked up place. -
When the scope of a project is the solar system and we end up talking about the universe... for three days. I just want to rage quit the meeting. 😐3
-
Why use Vue.js, Angular or React when you have jQuery???
No, seriously I just finished 4 Javascript Projects without any front-end framework.13 -
Just saw a drunk kid run out in front of an Uber self driving car... Almost witnessed the end to self driving cars.1
-
Our marketing just change the blacklist/whitelist terms to blocklist/allowlist to make it more "neutral" following change in github "master branch" to "main branch"
When will this end, people ?
:/11 -
You can't help it, just lie down and cry.
Maybe you'll choke or drown on your tears and finally end the suffering...
that turned very dark for some very odd reason (sorry 😅)1 -
Pet peeve of the week: code with "== true" at the end of boolean expressions.
if (coin.isSilver() == true) ...
which is just as sensible as
if ((coin.isSilver() == true) == true) ...
or
if (((coin.isSilver() == true) == true) == true) ...6 -
take adderall and stay up coding all night extremely effectively, but then u keep going and by the end of it you're just optimizing your vim plugins and installing a new linter
-
Just started work at this new company as a backend developer and immediately got into a heated argument with one of the front end guys.
Poor guy has been a front end developer for 5 years and doesn't know how to submit a form input as an array.
FML10 -
Don't you just love it when relatives ask you to "fix his computer" and you end up opening it up to remove dust that's from 100 years back.. Oh, and for free of course since "we're relatives"1

Is it just me or do GIFs never load? Everytime I'm excited clicking on an GIF but I end up waiting an infinite long time and then have to click away the post...10
-
Just taken over a project from a "high end" London agency to find their code is just poorly copy/pasted examples from the WordPress codex.2
-
Just found out that our front-end intern that has been here for more than 4 months don't know about "onchange" events!!!
wtf man? I'm back end and know this shit...2 -
Two types of days:
Sit down and say imma be productive and then just end up scrolling through unrelated articles for 3 hours.
And, Sit down and say imma just do something quickly before going out and then end up restructuring whole parts and being up till 6am. -
I like to go do a bit of manual labor to remind me I'm not trying to end up with a dead end job making just a hair above minimum wage.
Good motivation for me to try harder in school so I'll actually learn things and not to cheatmy way through like a lot of people I know.2 -
I'll just leave this here. RIP Firebug.
Not only you made me the front end developer I'm today, you also made me a man.3 -
Fuck academics! End semester exams are ucking waste of time ! Just need to study one night before and on exam ay 'vomit' all my memory onto the paper. Fuck it. I AM done.19
-
It's official, the "front end dev" doesn't know how to code.
Why.
And it's not a "Well I don't know JS because I use React." scenario, no. He has almost no idea of coding.
What was he thinking trying to build the front end of a very complex app with just HTML, CSS and stupid copied and pasted snippets?5 -
Literally any of them. I've got several open projects.
My personal website- started it, got about half the front end done, no longer liked it, so I scrapped it. Take 2: got about half the front end done again, and again, didn't like it. So I just stopped working on it.
A website for a local business. I was just screwing around to test my skills, and got the entire front end almost exactly how I wanted it, and then just stopped. (I got busy and forgot about it, tbh.)
A fan page for a sports team. I was going to try and test my skills to make a blog-like website, got a large chunk of the front end down, and a bit of back end done. But it took a back seat to my personal site, and is just collecting dust.
I have procrastination issues. -
API Request validation is stupid.
Until you remember
* Your target audience is highschool students
* Your front end dev loves to fuck your stuff up
* His mom works in QA and she equally likes to fuck shit up
* It's just a good idea
* People just fucking suck8 -
First post, woo!
So I just decided to create a simple coming soon page, slowly getting to grips with javascript finally (I think) but I like just diving into the code and see what comes out at the end of it.
Demo: https://coming-soon-template.netlify.com/...2 -
* 1 day of requesting the feature, deadline not for a while*
switch{
case 1:
Manager: How's the new feature going?
Me: I've done a bit of the front end. Here's how it will look.
Manager: Oh great it's done! Does it do ABC as the client requested? Does it also do XYZ that I just thought about this second?
Me: eh this is just part of the front end, I haven't even connected it to the backend - I haven't even started the backend.
case 2:
Manager: How's the new feature going?
Me: I've done a bit of the back end.
Manager: ok. Can I look?
Me: we'll it's just code... *shows them the code*
Manager: oh... so it's nothing really. Call me when it is done
}3 -
I feel like the Jenkins logo is just trolling me when this happens 5 minutes before the end of the day on a 3 hour build.....I hate you sir.5
-
I've just got a new job, and I'm SUPER NERVOUS...
it's everyone like that or just me ?!
It's a back-end JOB !!3 -
So this i quite a big project, hundreds of files everywhere, pages are rendered using multiple files.
This is one of the latest created page, it was made by my boss, and it just give me the creeps.
I REALLY don't know how he always comes up with shit like these.
I just hate having more than 5 closing tags in sequence...6 -
Just signed my work papers, managed to get a front-end developer position after looking for a while! Moved to a much bigger city too6
-
First time doing web development for front end AND back end and I just want to say...
FUCK YOU YOU SHITTY ASS BOLLOCK DRIPPINGLY RETARDING CACHE, WHO YOU LOAD THINGS I NO WANT YOU TO LOAD...WHY THO?...
Well that was 2 hours of my life wasted....8 -
An interesting python function I just made. Probably not the first to do so.
def printf(fmt, *args):

Bought this iPhone to test react native apps. Initially thought just want to replace the apple logo with react, but accidentally end up like this 😰
-
I have tried Facebook, plus, Twitter whatsapp and various other "social" platforms and they always end up being repetitive and boring. Unfortunately and with all due respect devrant has followed that trend and is becoming just as boring.
Nothing beats human interaction - it's just so much more enjoyable.5 -
Halfway through typing my password and I know I've gotten it wrong, but keep going to the end just in case it magically works.3
-
Sat for hours programming in a great new feature. At the end I tested it... and nothing happened. It didn't even have any effect. It just continued as normal. Talk about deflating enthusiasm...2
-
Don't you love it when out of a sudden tests fail because backend guys decided to change JSON response of one of the endpoints used.
aaaaaaah! can't this day just end ASAP!2 -
I just love languages and functions that support using a negative int to access array from the end! Awesome.5
-
Ok so we just signed a new client with some "artificial intelligence" back-end...
To authenticate with their back end, they developed a FU**ING GET REQUEST so the username and password are passed in the URL.
Then we get a token that we pass in FU**ING GET REQUESTS to communicate with their "artificial intelligence enhanced" back end.
I can't even. I just can't.5 -
I bought a new laptop yesterday and just fell like superheroes at the end on movies when they find out exactly how powerful they are and what real power tastes like :D
Moving from 4gb to 8gb of RAM and a to a working battery i just bliss :)4 -
So two guys at the company I work for just quitted, We were 4 in the "dev" department, 2 front end and 2 back end, now we're just 1 front and 1 back, should I try to get a raise?? I've been working steady for 8 months now.4
-
Don't you just hate it when you search for a solution to your problem and always end up back at your unanswered SO post?3
-
Just let people who already know the things you are teaching miss the class entirely. Give them some test at the end, this is okay but do not force them to suffer the endless hours of something they are already good at just because you want them to attend.2
-
The times when you just can't fall asleep and have to do something just to pass the time and end up getting up in the afternoon next day are the worst.3
-
Just learned display css properties. Took me long enough to make a damned HTML template.
Me no likes front end :(5 -
My deares coding buddy is a Toriel plushie, shes just sitting there silently, not judging me i love her.
Also i fucking hate c++ please end the pain.8 -
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK FUCK YOU GOOGLE, you placed a damn email about an interview in the spam box and I only realized it 2 weeks afterwards. END ME, JUST DO IT NOW3
-
After a couple years working mainly on back end, I just decided to start working on my front end skills to get myself into a full stack path a couple days ago...
I feel like I've never coded before in my life. My girlfriend is a front end developer and she's been laughing out loud at my html all these days...
Now she tells me she wants to learn some back end in a near future.
I'll let you know how much I laughed after that. -
Code = play games
Watch a tutorial = watch a movie
Read docs = read a novel
So I end up being scolded for never studying for my academics and just having fun all the time -
I just got my first full time job as a junior front end developer just because they didn't have any other option (I was last on their list).
Should I be happy or sad about it?13 -
I am just wondering.
Have you guys ever sleep walked?
How was the experience and where did you end up waking up at?10 -
My email is just as valid if there is a whitespace at the end of it as if there wasn't.. ffs, just add a trim!
-
I just can't use a trackpad. I've tried many times, tweaked all the settings but always end up plugging in a mouse. Maybe it's because I is shit?8
-
Just realized my next comback to PM:
No, we can't deliver yet, we need further testing before we are ready. I mean we don't want to end up in a situation similar to exploding batteries right?3 -
Today I learned:
My computing teacher has never thought about having the front end and back end as different apps. He always just connects to the database from the client and calls the clients non-gui parts the backend.
I now understand why he was so confused when I said I was thinking about the backend accepting web-based and desktop-based clients.2 -
Just put a little cookie in someone elses coffie, it will sink but in the end the drinker will notice...1
-
The company I work for now has no PM, no UI/UE. It’s just me, because I’m a full-stack engineer. I originally thought that full-stack was just front-end and back-end. I kind of want to run away.7
-
Just tried to get the oneplus vr... First try:404 at the end of the placed order. Second try: bug on site, just before the previous 404. Third try: out of stock. XD1
-
The problem method calls into the...back-end framework!
The back-end framework was built on top of...the older framework!
The older framework was built around...the legacy framework!
The legacy framework was a...piece of shit!
And that's why the site just hangs!2 -
After you master front end development :
“Just remember you are absolutely unique just like everyone else”2 -
Anyone had this been there - done that moment?
You know when you are developing a web app, you start and then after a while end up wasting hours on just which color to use in UI!!7 -
So, apparently, content entry is front end development.
It's all right there on our old site, just copy and paste it ... Complete with millions of annoying span and font tags you used.2 -
Company i work for just posted updated pay rates.
It's good. They went from lower end of spectrum to a little above the average in terms of pay, and benefits stay the same - solid. -
So I have this Boss, he is actually good. But he micro manage everything. He writes the code that supposedly we should write. He just want us to turnover what he write. And he just want us to understand it.
So at the end of the day. We didn't learn something.2 -
If you like PHP in the back-end, you're gonna LOOOVE it in the front-end!
Hahaha guys look what I've just found:
https://github.com/oraoto/pib
Who needs javascript am I right?5 -
When nothing happends and noone is at due to vacation, and you end just tweaking your minecraftserver...

Fave languages and frameworks, go!
As of now for me, loving these:
PHP8 and Laravel with Livewire*, Django5.1, MariaDB. PHP must stand for PrettyHeckinPCoolasFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU
*after using React and Vue for quite a while, I've concluded that the best front end is back end. And I like Postgres, I just find that MySQL is fine for most things.25 -
Instead of giving exams at the end of the course, make the courses project based. Most cmps students at my university only memorize information (and even memorize code) just to get a grade, but if instead they had to present a project at the end of the semester they would learn much more and have more experience1
-
Pressing ESC at the end of the line so that the modal in the browser closes and I have to write everything again.
Just Vim things1 -
Just passed 2 to 3 hours learning how to model a chair when I was almost at the end my pc shutdown randomly, I lost everything... Thank you life.3
-
I hate front end !
My friend just tried to help me with it and I was happy to be relieved of the shitty work!
He didn't make it responsive ! And now I am back to square 1. 😑6 -
When front end developer start testing just before working hours are complete 😑 and you have to stay to fix bugs.6
-
I've refrained from commenting on which IDE is best and which isn't, what simply works for me is eclipse. So far it handles stuff for me pretty nicely... until today.
Look at this screenshot, can you spot the wtf? Like, SRSLY, WTF.... Might it really be just that DOT at the end or is it just the dot concatenated at the end of the error message?13 -

Dear fellow front end developer, why?, just why would you use "!important" on every property value inside your @media query?2 -

Just got done watching Netflix’s new 10 part series ‘Maniac’.
It’s by far the weirdest, most emotionally charged thing I’ve perhaps ever watched.
I spent a solid 5 minutes just crying my eyes out at the end of the final episode.
I can’t recommend it enough.4 -
When your week has been so stressful... you just want to curl up in the corner and cry.
Murphy's law is taking me for a ride of a lifetime right now, and just when you start seeing light at the end of the tunnel, it's just a lightbulb and another dead end.

Having to explain to non technical project managers that: Just because you don't see anything that's changed on the front end doesn't mean that I haven't just spent 6 weeks so trying to future proof and anticipate every little thing that might change on the backend!

Just had my second interview at Freitag and it was quite fun. At the end I was talking about anime and bass playing instead of IT stuff xD
Hope I get it :D3 -
A tale of silos, pivots, and mismanagement.
Background: Our consultancy has been working with this client for over a year now. It started with some of our back-end devs working on the API.
We are in Canada. The client is located in the US. There are two other teams in Canada. The client has an overseas company contracted to do the front-end of the app. And at the time we started, there was a 'UX consultancy' also in the US.
I joined the project several months in to replace the then-defunct UX company. I was the only UX consultant on the project at that time. I was also to build out a functional front-end 'prototype' (Vue/Scss) ahead of the other teams so that we could begin tying the fractured arms of the product together.
At this point there was a partial spec for the back-end, a somewhat architected API, a loose idea of a basic front-end, and a smattering of ideas, concepts, sketches, and horrific wireframes scattered about various places online.
At this point we had:
One back-end
One front-end
One functional prototype
One back-end Jira board
One front-end Jira board
No task-management for UX
You might get where this is going...
None of the teams had shared meetings. None of the team leads spoke to each other. Each team had their own terms, their own trajectory, and their own goals.
Just as our team started pushing for more alignment, and we began having shared meetings, the client decided to pivot the product in another direction.
Now we had:
One back-end
One original front-end
One first-pivot front-end
Two functional prototypes
One front-end Jira board
One back-end Jira board
No worries. We're professionals. We do this all the time. We rolled with it and we shifted focus to a new direction, with the same goals in mind internally to keep things aligned and moving along.
Slowly, the client hired managers to start leading everything in the same direction. Things started to look up. The back-end team and the product and UX teams started aligning goals and working toward the same objectives.
Then the client shifted directions again. This time bigger. More 'verticals'. I was to leave the previous 'prototypes' behind, and feature-freeze them to work on the new direction.
One back-end
One conceptual 'new' back-end
One original front-end
One first-pivot front-end
One 'all verticals' front-end
One functional prototype
One back-end Jira board
One front-end Jira board
One product Jira board
One UX Jira board
Meanwhile, the back-end team, the front-end team overseas, all kept moving in the previously agreed-upon direction.
At this stage, probably 6 months in, the 'prototypes' were much less proper 'prototypes' but actually just full apps (with a stubbed back-end since I was never given permission or support to access the actual back-end).
The state of things today:
Back to one back-end
One original front-end
One first-pivot front-end
One 'all verticals' front-end
One 'working' front-end
One 'QA' front-end
One 'demo' front-end
One functional prototype
One back-end Jira board
Two front-end Jira boards
One current product Jira board
One future product Jira board
One current UX Jira board
One future UX Jira board
One QA Jira board
I report to approximately 4 people remotely (depending on the task or the week).
There are three representatives from 'product' who dictate features and priorities (they often do not align).
I still maintain the 'prototype' to this day. The front-end team does not have access to the code of this 'prototype' (the clients' request). The client's QA team does not test against the 'prototype'.
The demos of the front-end version of the product include peanut-gallery design-by-committee 'bug call-outs', feature requests, and scope creep by attendees in the dozens from all manner of teams and directors.4 -
The end is near.
I threw together a devRant content saver just now. It's rough, but it works:

save your rants and pics until it's too late.12 -
is it me or you also make a new file of a working code just make and see how new way it will work but end up editing the original file 😭1

Look who is here!!
First of all, when was it ever stable and I can bet nightmare for front end developer has just begun.5 -
Sometimes I just wonder how.
I spent hours trying to find out why nothing was being rendered on screen. In the end I realized that my full-screen triangle consisted of 2 vertices. -
Have you ever been so frustrated with your Tester that you go from wishing everyone "Have a nice day" to "How about a high five on your with a spirit bomb" in exactly 2.9 seconds?
QA - Just give this bug to the frontend guy already, he'll figure out if it is from back end, design, front end or business requirement. -
I'm just walking out of a physics and programming final and the end of the semester. Imagine my joy knowing I'll have a whole month of extra time to work on personal dev stuff.
-
So I got reprimanded for some error on a site. I proved that this was a back end problem and that this has nothing to do with me (I'm just a front end dev). Didn't get a single apology, the dev who broke the thing got off scot free and now i have to work overtime while they publish the changes to test them

For some reason, my roommate thinks Facebook can track his and all our calls.
I don't know the beginning or the end of what they can/can't do, but that just has to be BS... right?12 -
I was sent to sit-down with client in a meeting.
They basically discussed their findings.
(By "discussed" meaning just reading the contents of their presentation.)
In the end of the meeting. They said they'll email the presentation.
Another classic "I survived another meeting that could've been just an email"1 -

We just didn't had any big tsunami this year (knocks on wood)4 -
It's Friday, I just want to go home and work on my side project.
At the end of the day some co-workers ask me to join for a beer. It's too hard to resist, it's just one beer. Just one beer? Who am I lying to? Its probably going to end the same way as last friday and the friday before that.
This is why I don't have time to work on my side projects.
I don't look forward to the headache tomorrow.
It's too hard to say no.
Does anyone of you feel the same way?3 -
I always end up building my own wrapper using the REST API rather than using the already existing SDKs to just avoid going through the docs!
-
Last hackaton (and first) I participated in was a disaster.
In the end our team was the only team, but there were other hackatons as well so in the end they just judged all the different hackatons as if they were all the same and that's the story of my team not winning 25k$ -
Mr Fucking Robot. What an episode. Mind fucked up in the end. This season starts so average and now it's just getting dope. Brilliant writing.8

Me and my colleagues, just 3 of us are building a web app. I'm doing the front end part now after struggling with the back end. Does this qualify me as a full stack developer.4

God fucking dammit.
I spend the entire day trying to get [this piece of shit] (https://github.com/php-ds/extension) to work and at the end of the day its tests pass, but when I try to instantiate a set, I still get bloody errors.
I mean, am I not punished enough for having no guidance in learning PHP and knowingly having to create an absolute monstrosity just because I don't know how to do it better.
Fuck it, I'm just gonna go cry myself to sleep now and only will start feeling like a failureagain, when I wake up.
sorry for bothering you with my problems.6 -
Aaaaaaaah. I just spent way too long trying to understand kivy. I enjoy backend stuff way more than front-end.1

Do you think that program with keyboard & mouse is faster than using a laptop keyboard & touchpad?
At least in my case having no BlockNum and bad distribution of navigation keys, plus the need to use the [Fn] hotkey:
[Shiftl] + [Fn] + [Home|End], just imagine when you have to do [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Fn] + [Home|End].
Mouse is faster and more accurate than touchpad6 -
So here's a question for all the front-end web devs. I'm mostly a back-end dev, but currently learning Angular 6 for a personal project I'm doing.
Didn't realize that styling isn't what Angular does (or maybe it does, and I just don't know), but that you should use some framework for styling too.
So the question is: What is most commonly used, is it bootstrap or something like that?4 -
You know just what I love my evening novel to be? Documentation of software, written by someone who clearly doesn’t understand what the fuck this is all on about. Literally created a cyclic paragraph (end of paragraph -> see also paragraph b : end of paragraph b -> see paragraph a) without having explained the concept at all.
Why just whyyy3 -
Node introducing Javascript as more than a front end web language was definately the start of the apocalypse. Just because you can use javascript/html/CSS to build a desktop or mobile app doesn't mean you should.9

I love the job hunt, just thinking about ending my life everyday now. Maybe I'm just a bad programmer - or just completely dumb.
Anyone have any advice on getting front end developer jobs?4 -
Is it just me or do software developers get the shit end of the stick in absolutely every project?4

Instead of looping through your entire project, just recursively calling main() to restart every time it would otherwise end

backend-dev : *takes time to config the menu module to specs*
"it works but the front-end guy justs needs to fix 1 or 2 css details"
boss - "nah i'll just buy an other module" -
Since I started messing around with front end (JavaFX and css), the expression "code works and I don't know why" just gained a whole new level.. I have no idea how did those boxes aligned..2

I do front end development.
Front end web developers are NOT web designers
I repeat I am NOT a web designer
I'm just salty that job listings always want web designers that also know front end development. -

I swear web frameworks are popping up faster than I can catch up, I mean I'm not even done learning react 😭 usually made projects in ASP.NET MVC with just jquery and it just feels like a lot of work to create more layers on the front end as well. Maybe I don't know, or don't understand what "Front end" actually means, many companies ask for a "Front end developer" and then I see their requirements, and wow, I think a lot of them are just one "step" away of being a Full Stack Dev position.

I've been learning java back end web since November last year. A month ago I've tried JS/React and have fallen for it. All my back end guys are hating on me now, because, as they say, I'm not "an intellectual" anymore but a just JS pleb 🌩️🌩️
Wrong people to talk to i guess :sigh:18 -
Am I the only one that knows a couple of front end javascript front end frameworks but just can't figure out a good design?

The only thing left worth chasing is money for me
I just don't fucking care about anything else
I used to feel lonely cause i've never had a girlfriend and i am turning 19 this week.
But something flipped in me yesterday and i was like fuck all this shit. I'll just get the money and end up dating the hottest girl in town 10 years from now after getting the money instead of chasing mediocre pussy or even mediocre friendships too where the friends end up betraying you eventually after using you5 -
I was presented with a different backend schema today after finishing the front end, not before not even during, it just had to be after.1

I'm a designer and just found out about a hackathon by Deutsche Bank hosted at the end of October in Berlin. Are some devs out there interested in forming a team (and brainstorming about an idea, obviously)? Preferably from around Germany, since one has to pay travel costs on his/her own, but I'm open, really.
More information: https://api-open.db.com
Just hit me up if you're interested!
P.S. I'm not bad at getting some front-end development done...8 -
How do you find the balance between just howing the junior how it's done (or end up doing it yourself) and giving them hints so they can figure it out on their own?
Not trying to be an ass, on the contrary, I just want to help.
But it's frustrating as fuck seeing all the little, simple stuff going wrong over and over and I end up just giving in and take time off my assignments to "help out" (point out the error/give the solution).5 -
which type of variable do you like using more than the other:

Again I get confirmation that my trust issues are justified.
In the end, 99% of people just watch their own ass even if they could easily make it easier for others who didn’t do anything wrong. All they’d have to do is caring about them.
I guess especially younger generations only care for their parents, wives and kids. Everyone else is just a means to an end.
It reminds me of the reason why I spend most of my time alone at home in front of my computer.8 -

Where are the front end developer’s?.73 -

Hey everyone. I am a recent graduate of 2015. At a company as a front-end dev. I really want to get into the game industry or just work for one. I love Ai, obsessed with it. I am proficent in c++ too. I don't care if I stay as a front-end dev I like that too. I just want I work for something i obsess and passionate about. Any advice?1

Should linting and syntax highlighting be separate options in editors? It seems to me that anytime i just want a nice syntax highlighting extension in vscode i end up with a shitton of linter errors that i didn't ask for... I just wanted to see my keywords, dammit!7

"Front end developers" who don't understand the cascade are my favourite thing. Just use BEM dude, you don't need some fucking scoped components with dynamically evaluated CSS-in-JS.6

you guys ever seen a webservice returning view elements for the front end to interpret and generate views using a switch
switch(data.type)

case password:

-
My respect to front-end developers. Since I do fullstack, The con is It takes slightly longer to perfect your front or back end skills since you technically have to put 50/50 your mental energy into it. The Pro however is the appreciation/understanding you get to walk away with for both jobs.
But you really need a certain "eye" to do front end, especially when you find inspiration but you don't want to just copy their shit. Sheesh2 -

Hi friends, I would like to ask someone who is more experienced in the field than me about C# and web development.
I am currently just a front end guy, with no real experience in back end - but I've been learning C# for game development with Unity for some time and wanted to ask if c# could be a nice direction for my back end learning?
Is it viable, good?
Any advice is highly appreciated ☺3 -

VSCode doesn't (seem to) have the option to target specific sourcemaps, and ParcelJS doesn't have the option to specify the names of sourcemaps.
This fucks me over pretty hard since vscodes debugger expects the sourcemap to end in .js.map, but parcel gives me just .map. If the sourcemap doesn't end with .js.map vscode will just open the debug control panel pop up thing, wait a few seconds, and then close it again.
This has given me a new permanent temporary hack :v

Why employers strongly believe Front-End and Back-End are synonyms of Full-Stack?
They are requiring Front devs to have knowledge and experience with relational databases and Back devs to be experts in HTML and CSS, sometimes graphic design stuff too.
For God's sake just hire a Full-stack Dev3 -
28 hours. It was my company's first react native project.
I had to learn it and finding it. At the end I fucked up the project just before deadline. So worked 28 hours row to fix it.1 -
So I’m learning JavaScript but with every project I’m delayed because I have to make the page for the project and it irks me because I hate front end. DONT ASK WHY IM LEARNING FRONT END SHIT ALRIGHT? Anyhoo uh yeah no this shit is holding me back because I want to do web dev for web applications but developing the front end is such a fucking hassle. Like creating divs for the apps to look how I want while being basic as shit and I know JS is for front end and I get that and it’s fun to play with but I just wanna get to the programming you know? I’m not a designer I’m just trying to get better at programming and have fun. And also fuck those times I changed something and it literally should have changed but IT FUCKING DIDNT!2

I feel that I don't sympathize with any programming language, I jump from one to the other (because I find some disadvantage using some of them) and I end up not learning any completely and the personal projects end up just being ideas. Recent graduate asking about programming work.
I just graduated a bachelor's for Games Programming. I've studied c++, Java, Unreal, Android studio and Mathematics. Also includes group projects and game specific stuff.
I spent a year in Germany doing software and database courses which included 6 months working as a front end developer as an intern.
I keep getting job offers for front end work but I'm seeing no interest from software or games. I hate websites, specifically front end and don't want to end up stuck in that career.
Should I avoid front end jobs and hold out for something else, or do you think I should bear with it for now? I'm currently waiting on an interview for a 12 month contract as a front end developer at a rate of £200 a day, 5 days a week. Yet I have absolutely no idea if this is good or not.
Any advice you more experienced people can give me? 😰3 -
Advice needed please.
I have an interview friday for a front end developer. Currently I am junior dev with just a full stack certiticate.
It’s the typical skillset requiremnts JS HTML and CSS with familiar with React, Angular and Vue.
As far as languages I really do not know JS but I know php. Taken a JS class in school found it to be fairly simple and that was my second language I learned.
How do I spend the next 48 hours? Learning JS? Spending time going over frameworks? Refreshing HTML/CSS?
I am much stronger back end than front end but I am hoping this will be more of a front end engineer job requiring the configuration of node packages and such.1 -
If you are answering a yes or no question with an overcomplicated explanation just to show off, and in the end it turns out it was 99% either yes or no, then please go fuck yourself.3

For the front-end devs out there, do you guys prefer using font-weight to change the weight of the font or do you guys prefer using separate names (Font Name Black, Font Name Bold, and so on)2 -
Deploying an app on heroku when using ruby and rails on the backend and AngularJS on the front end is just a pain 😭
Just thought I'd share my feeling about it!!! -
Learning Flutter since I've seen it suggested somewhere on here, and therefore I'm having to learn Dart. It just bugs me how it doesn't complain when I leave an extra comma at the end of the constructor parameters3

Working with nightly builds and concept tech is such a fucking hassle...
I'm currently working on a WebAssembly proof of concept where I need to generate a unique id, but since threading is currently not supported (rust and webassembly) I cant use half of the libraries currently out.
And the ones that does work... guess what... are not compatible with the nightly build of the compiler I'm using for Rust. Just fucking end me.
The legit only workaround I can find is to make a server request and get the unique id from there... piece of cunt software...I need a break 😑 -
Hey guys, so i'm just about to complete my android application project which I started a year ago.
You can say it's sort of my baby. I've put all my efforts into it. The backend is almost done. The problem which i'm struggling with is the front end.
The front end of my app looks like shit. I tried to do everything to make it look elegant and classy, but all in vain.
And I can't afford to hire a front end developer or graphic designer. Can someone suggest me what to do.
I'm open to any suggestions as it's the first app i'll upload on the play store, I just want it to be perfect.26 -
Would you recommend PHP-fusion for linking a CMS to my website? And why? I have no experience with CMS, just front-end stuff.2
