I just realized that my fucking boss managed to put a back end dev to do front end and a front end dev to make an api.
So me and the front end dev are constantly asking each other stuff instead of doing the fucking job properly because it isn't the subject that we like/spend our free time learning.
Although I understand that its good to have some "full stack" knowledge I also understand that my ui/ux is gonna suck while his api is gonna suck :)5 -
Last night I nearly finished my portfolio site. I was working on the perfect framework and workflow like forever. But in the end I accomplished a pretty pleasing solutions. For the back-end I choose Laravel with it's built in rest-api, the front-end is managed by Vue. I'm also proud of my assets-management which is handled by Gulp + Webpack (Laravel Mix). But here I decided to run Gulp on images, fonts and CSS and let Webpack bundle the JavaScript.
And what really crawls my balls is that I can write Sass and Jade, even use partials and organized the shit out of this website, and let Gulp just vomit some minified HTML and CSS on the other end.

My personal website- started it, got about half the front end done, no longer liked it, so I scrapped it. Take 2: got about half the front end done again, and again, didn't like it. So I just stopped working on it.
A website for a local business. I was just screwing around to test my skills, and got the entire front end almost exactly how I wanted it, and then just stopped. (I got busy and forgot about it, tbh.)
A fan page for a sports team. I was going to try and test my skills to make a blog-like website, got a large chunk of the front end down, and a bit of back end done. But it took a back seat to my personal site, and is just collecting dust.

To authenticate with their back end, they developed a FU**ING GET REQUEST so the username and password are passed in the URL.
Then we get a token that we pass in FU**ING GET REQUESTS to communicate with their "artificial intelligence enhanced" back end.

My computing teacher has never thought about having the front end and back end as different apps. He always just connects to the database from the client and calls the clients non-gui parts the backend.
I now understand why he was so confused when I said I was thinking about the backend accepting web-based and desktop-based clients.2 -

As of now for me, loving these:
PHP8 and Laravel with Livewire*, Django5.1, MariaDB. PHP must stand for PrettyHeckinPCoolasFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU
*after using React and Vue for quite a while, I've concluded that the best front end is back end. And I like Postgres, I just find that MySQL is fine for most things.25 -
Instead of giving exams at the end of the course, make the courses project based. Most cmps students at my university only memorize information (and even memorize code) just to get a grade, but if instead they had to present a project at the end of the semester they would learn much more and have more experience1

So I got reprimanded for some error on a site. I proved that this was a back end problem and that this has nothing to do with me (I'm just a front end dev). Didn't get a single apology, the dev who broke the thing got off scot free and now i have to work overtime while they publish the changes to test them

At the end of the day some co-workers ask me to join for a beer. It's too hard to resist, it's just one beer. Just one beer? Who am I lying to? Its probably going to end the same way as last friday and the friday before that.
This is why I don't have time to work on my side projects.
I don't look forward to the headache tomorrow.
It's too hard to say no.

I always end up building my own wrapper using the REST API rather than using the already existing SDKs to just avoid going through the docs!

Last hackaton (and first) I participated in was a disaster.
In the end our team was the only team, but there were other hackatons as well so in the end they just judged all the different hackatons as if they were all the same and that's the story of my team not winning 25k$ -

Do you think that program with keyboard & mouse is faster than using a laptop keyboard & touchpad?
At least in my case having no BlockNum and bad distribution of navigation keys, plus the need to use the [Fn] hotkey:
[Shiftl] + [Fn] + [Home|End], just imagine when you have to do [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Fn] + [Home|End].
Mouse is faster and more accurate than touchpad6 -

Didn't realize that styling isn't what Angular does (or maybe it does, and I just don't know), but that you should use some framework for styling too.
So the question is: What is most commonly used, is it bootstrap or something like that?4 -

I swear web frameworks are popping up faster than I can catch up, I mean I'm not even done learning react 😭 usually made projects in ASP.NET MVC with just jquery and it just feels like a lot of work to create more layers on the front end as well. Advice needed if you work on both front and back end what js frameworks do you use, and from experience which would you prefer?3 -

How do you find the balance between just howing the junior how it's done (or end up doing it yourself) and giving them hints so they can figure it out on their own?

My respect to front-end developers. Since I do fullstack, The con is It takes slightly longer to perfect your front or back end skills since you technically have to put 50/50 your mental energy into it. The Pro however is the appreciation/understanding you get to walk away with for both jobs.
But you really need a certain "eye" to do front end, especially when you find inspiration but you don't want to just copy their shit. Sheesh2 -

VSCode doesn't (seem to) have the option to target specific sourcemaps, and ParcelJS doesn't have the option to specify the names of sourcemaps.
This fucks me over pretty hard since vscodes debugger expects the sourcemap to end in .js.map, but parcel gives me just .map. If the sourcemap doesn't end with .js.map vscode will just open the debug control panel pop up thing, wait a few seconds, and then close it again.

Why employers strongly believe Front-End and Back-End are synonyms of Full-Stack?
They are requiring Front devs to have knowledge and experience with relational databases and Back devs to be experts in HTML and CSS, sometimes graphic design stuff too.

Recent graduate asking about programming work.
I just graduated a bachelor's for Games Programming. I've studied c++, Java, Unreal, Android studio and Mathematics. Also includes group projects and game specific stuff.
I spent a year in Germany doing software and database courses which included 6 months working as a front end developer as an intern.
I keep getting job offers for front end work but I'm seeing no interest from software or games. I hate websites, specifically front end and don't want to end up stuck in that career.
Should I avoid front end jobs and hold out for something else, or do you think I should bear with it for now? I'm currently waiting on an interview for a 12 month contract as a front end developer at a rate of £200 a day, 5 days a week. Yet I have absolutely no idea if this is good or not.
Any advice you more experienced people can give me? 😰3 -

I have an interview friday for a front end developer. Currently I am junior dev with just a full stack certiticate.
It’s the typical skillset requiremnts JS HTML and CSS with familiar with React, Angular and Vue.
As far as languages I really do not know JS but I know php. Taken a JS class in school found it to be fairly simple and that was my second language I learned.
How do I spend the next 48 hours? Learning JS? Spending time going over frameworks? Refreshing HTML/CSS?
I am much stronger back end than front end but I am hoping this will be more of a front end engineer job requiring the configuration of node packages and such.1 -

Working with nightly builds and concept tech is such a fucking hassle...
I'm currently working on a WebAssembly proof of concept where I need to generate a unique id, but since threading is currently not supported (rust and webassembly) I cant use half of the libraries currently out.
And the ones that does work... guess what... are not compatible with the nightly build of the compiler I'm using for Rust. Just fucking end me.
The legit only workaround I can find is to make a server request and get the unique id from there... piece of cunt software...I need a break 😑 -
