*at my study a year or longer ago*
Classmate: hey linuxxx, could you come take a look? What is this? *points at screen towards some code*
Me: you don't see it?!
Me: you really don't see it?!
Me: no for real, do you *REALLY* not see it?!
Cm: NO! TELL ME ALREADY!
Me: that's a screen 😊
So a group of 'researchers' (you'll get later why I call them 'researchers') conducted research to find the most secure browser.
Their result is Google Chrome!
Few minor details:
- THE WHOLE FUCKING RESEARCH THINGY WAS (mostly?) SPONSORED BY GOOGLE.
- THEY COMPARED IT MOSTLY TO INTERNET FUCKING EXPLORER AND EDGE.
Are they fucking retarded or something?! Yeah if it's going to go like that, Google Chrome will certainly become the winner/number 1.
Mother of fucking god.79
relationship with dev perks (just happened):
GF : *bad mood* i'm hungry
Me : Let's go get some food ! *trying to cheer her up*
GF : No.
Me : Ok, whatever you say.
GF : Do you really wa--
Me : Whaat? you said "No"?
GF : Don't you see abstraction in my face?
Me : so what ? you want me to Implement it?
GF : NO. PUT IT IN YOUR GODDAMN MAIN FUNCTION.
Me : ok let's go *still don't understand what she meant*
GF : Good Job.71
You know what really grinds my gears?
Seeing a 5-line comment, that have absolute no value, for a variable declaration.
* String that holds a delivery address.
public String deliveryAddress;8
Windows 10 once again held my computer at ransom! When it finally came around after the update, all it really seem to do is place Edge back on my task bar. No... Bad Microsoft, I don't use or want Edge.6
Me, in the zone, staring at the code. Co-worker enters.
Co: hey, can you...
Me (not really listening): no.
Co: it's just...
Friend asks if he can copy homework, gets a no, steals it and copies anyway.
Asks for help, I give a tip or 2, and say that it's on my Github if he wants to look at it. Replies "No thank you, I really want to get this myself".6
When you're really stuck on a problem amd rubber duck is of no use..
The supper effective silver terminatior duck with diamond is here to help!!5
Just reduced 900 lines of horrible code into 106 lines of less horrible code..
QA: do those 106loc really do what the 900loc did ?
QA: are you sure?
Me: NO. I was lying. Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. Maybe you should run it and find out.
QA: *immediately releases for prod*3
I made this a couple of years ago for a joke but no one really got it.
It's a printable smartwatch that always tells the right time, no need for charging...20
Fuck this guy who calls himself a fullstack developer after doing a HelloWorld with Node.js and a bit of flex box.
No. Really. Stop with this bullshit.5
Friend: My other friend said he hacked into the Pentagon, can you do it?
Me: ummm No
Friend: So you are not really a good developer then?
Me: ummm No...I guess
Friend: well I'm hanging out with that guy then, he is showing me ways to make hundreds of $ a day online.
Why do people (Some devs too...) bloody hell think that devs have Hard time fixing the Semi Colon issue, we have a lot of other issues to figure out, like the Structure of Data, Code Fragmentation, API Creation, Invalid Data Handling, Injection Prevention. But no, since we are developers, we are having sleepless nights because of one fucking semicolon? FUCKING NO, it hardly takes 30 seconds to figure out that there is a missing semi-colon. Really People, stop the ; thing!10
Client: You can develop a e-commerce system for me right?
Me: Yeah sure, whats your budget?
Client: 100$ and I want a really good vps included in the price.
** FManzi left the conversation **
No more work for inexperienced5
I frckin HATE people who say 'Ah, you can program now? So can you make a game for me? I even have some ideas!, bla bla blurb...'
It makes me wanna hurt them. And the really, really sad thing about it is: nearly no one understands why.4
Just looked at the anonymous analytics I collect on the security/privacy blog.
No SQL Injection attacks yet (would be useless anyways as I don't use MySQL/MariaDB for the databasing.
Directory Traversal attacks. Really? 🤣
Nice try, guys.40
Interview today! (Maybe?)
Sometime between 2pm and 10pm!
No idea if it's Skype or phone or what. Or with who. Or really when.
Sounds like I should turn them down. 😕19
Manager: We really need to save money with this project, so nobody call tech support for anything.
Me: There's this open-source solution that would work great.
Manager: Bad idea! There's no tech support number to call.
Her: What are you doing over there?
Me: I'm working on cryptographic hash functions
Her: is that really homework?
Me: yes, come look with your two eyes.
Me: crazy stuff, no?
Her: I imagine computer science is really just a lot of boxes and arrows.
Me: *flashback to UML, ERD diagrams, and logic diagrams*
Me: you are not wrong.8
Microsoft: We're brings new updates to Edge....
Me: Oh nice, was about time.
"Edge now has support for Internet Explorer"
"No, really, you can now run IE in Edge."
Me: Oh for Fuck Sake!19
I did it! I told her. I admitted that I have a crush on her. It was awesome, we were in her room, chilling and having Belgian beer and looking over at the beautiful dome of Les Invalids and the lights of Paris through her window. It was raining a little bit. All perfect.
I told her how I really enjoyed her company and how I found her really cool and interesting and how I had a not so small crush on her. She was very surprised but she was glad I told her. I'm really proud that I did something so big.
Oh, she said no btw.40
Friend: you really should give Windows another chance, it's really not that bad.
Me: are you in possession of the only Windows computer that doesn't blue screen whenever there's a strong breeze outside?
Friend: No ... That does happen every now and then.
Me: So what's great about it then?
Friend: Look at this cool wallpaper, it's a slideshow of pictures of my kids.
Me: ... stop talking to me immediately ... and sit over there.16
I would kill all these +1 guys, srsly. I subscribe these threads to know if it will be implemented.
You do not add any value to issue:
* devs are pissed off as this does not help solving problem
* others are pissed off
No one really cares about your likes, really.30
My brother: “There’s no way you can remove games from my computer!”
Me: “Oh really?”
Bro: “Yes! I got password on Windows!”
He didn’t knew I had remote control setup on my PC... So I hid games on his PC6
Really pissed me off when I tell someone that I am teaching myself how to code and they're like.. "Don't you have to go to school for that?"
YES.. I wish I could go to school but I am broke, have no family support, and got no credits for a loan. But at least I am seeking out other resources! The mentality of some people I swear!!11
When the client says "I just need a really easy edit, shouldn't take more than a few minutes."
*in my head* "Oh really? Can you do it? No? Then don't tell me how easy it is going to be to find the one line of code I need to edit out of thousands of lines in hundreds of files."
- PM : we have no choice but to finish this before deadline.
- Me : We can't, it's a really big feature.
- PM : But we have no choice.
- Me : But we can't.
*What is she waiting for*12
This is my debugging pal.
He gobbles em all up.
No, really, he is. This isnt just for the practical humor. Hes actually my debug pet thing.9
php : dont leave me alone. i own the web. wtf?!!
python : really? i am the best 😎
js : such an idiot. you need me.
c : wtf is wrong with this kids?! go play outside.
asp.net : i'm here, anybody? no? ok.
How to check is the battery really isn't charging? Pull the cable out.
No backup, no nothing, few hours wasted. Gonna get some beer ._.
Dear Nokia, I really like your phones. But if I have a question about it, I expect the "Send" button on your contact form to actually work. Thanks.
FYI, I actually checked the console and network tab in two different browsers. No requests, no errors -.-9
The color sucks on my laptop. It's simply not accurate at all.
Pink looks like purple, yellow looks like orange, the colors are dimmer than what they really are, and etc.
No wonder my group thinks I'm color blind. D:8
Our PM is on vacation. And our CTO/CEO takes control of the PM role.
So today he decided it was time to just start a customer change request. Regardless of the customer not having approved the actual solution and estimate.
He just said that he did not want to waste any more time talking to the customer. Now they are gonna get what ever he thinks they want.
I predict this to backfire in a fabulous way. What could possible go wrong🤔4
I always wanted to have comments in JSON files, but I just discovered a really good alternative:
"//": "This is a comment",
Looks kinda ugly but it works! No need for special unconventional parsers and shit.29
I bypassed the payment system on a paying Internet terminal in Egypt by booting into safe mode. I was 14, and there was no other way of getting Internet, so I was really proud of myself 😁2
- "no dad! this is my rubber duck. get your own" my daughter said.
okay.. she's 6 months old, so she can't really speak, but i could se it in her eyes.3
I really really want to start working.
I have social anxiety, but my mom is really on my ass about bringing in money. I need some sort of job that I can do from home on my computer.
Something related to programming.. Administration.. Whatever. I don't mind having to learn something new to find work.
I have no formal qualifacations.
I don't care how easy or hard it is, as long as I can make at least $100/mo.20
The new blender 2.8 is gods work. Really ! Like holy shit. I coudlnt do shit in blender before. Now i can actually use it like its supposed to be used.
Hard to use ?
"You should definitely use Ruby on Rails. All the startups and cool companies use it, plus it's really easy to pick up."
- random dude in computer lab
I asked our customer at least 10 times if they really REALLY want the feature this particular way, because it absolutely made no sense..
Guess who got a bug (!!) assigned today in which the feature should be changed like I told them..........7
Ive never really used vim, and therefore not completely understood all the jokes about it..
Yesterday, i somehow ended up editing my crontab with vim.
I have no idea how i managed to quit it, but something worked.
NOTE: No hardware was damaged in the process9
Seriously? There isn't a "no pants" option? Seriously? come on @dfox, we all know how stuff really gets done 😉7
Dear Windows users: instead of upgrade to Windows 10, why don't you downgrade to Dos? It appears to have less issues.7
They really need to improve the algorithm that is searching for things in Windows Explorer. Literally:
Windows: *Searching for files in Downloads*
Me: I just typed .mp4, what is taking so long!?
Windows: *No results.*4
ditched windows for good 2 months ago. never been happier!
"I really miss unexpected and time consuming OS updates!"
- no one ever10
Won the 2nd prize in a Microsoft hosted hackathon. No for Windows but they really have good cognitive services. Used Azure vision api, one of the good ocr service available.2
No... Just me? Ok cool16
$number = 3000/365*365-3000
No, Just No. I really like you PHP but thats supposed to be zero. I don't got time for your Tantrum's. I got work to do!
PS: Does anyone know why this happens? Solved it by rounding on 10 decimals but prefer it would just answer 0 instead of me having to force it back.23
"Could you make me a nice logo really quick? I have no budget"
.. sure, just let me press the "make Logo"-Button in Illustrator
Feels like I found value of "NAN"
i.e, finding non-ranter dev @ devrant!
"Write no rant
Comment no rant
++(view) all rant "
I guess he should be given a badge or something!
Never able to achieve that stage of satisfaction,
Bsod in windows,
Grub rescue for Linux,
Gradle build problem for android,
What not ?
Yet I really feel like today , I met a ironical legend of dev community!
A full bow to you my friend5
Me: *Several minutes explaining the differences
Me: No, you're an asshole3
Last October, I was feeling really lost as a student. I posted a rant here (https://devrant.com/rants/1812123/...) as I had no one to talk to. I got a little support, but the advice I got really meant a lot to me.
I buckled up, did some learning and a small project, and today I am the NLP intern at an Organization that has really reputed clients.
Thank you devrant. Thanks everyone.
I went to the university today to perform a turkey heart surgery and to puff into pig's lungs. (Which was cool) Then I saw this sign, really have no idea how this could ever happen. Any suggestions?2
I stumbled upon one of those internet mysteries.
What really happened here? No one knows...
WayBackMachine has nothing as well!
Me: We really need to improve our unit test coverage.
Team/Boss: <sarcasm> Haha yeah.
Production Bug: I'm doing something nasty to a client, because a dev broke something but no test coverage.
Boss: How could we have prevented this?!1
I read a lot about people complaining about their shitty jobs. Some of us actually have nice jobs, but could really need more coworkers.
Wouldn't it be nice if devRant had the possibility to post job offers? Of course, no recruiters allowed, just awesome job offers, so we can all work together on some nice projects.
PS: Could really need some help at work :-)6
Is it really possible to become a good dev with only sololearning ?
I'm a student that already destroy my dev teacher(bad school, no money) so I'm trying to improve myself, but i cannot see the result.. :(14
"Unix filenames are case-sensitive?! Hur hur, that must be really confusing!"
Well, no, if you're not a fucking mouth-breathing cretin it isn't.2
Not sure of devRant is broken, or there's really been no rants for an hour 🤔
So what's everyone up to?14
Sometimes I feel like I'm not really a developer. I don't know how to explain this.
I know some stuff but I feel like I am always behind no matter what...12
Just saw this in a production app. There's a reason no other language implemented VB's OnErrorResumeNext, BECAUSE IT'S A F***ING TERRIBLE IDEA.
Catch (exception e)
//not really an issue
Followed lectures from Udemy, build a burger 🍔 with div again!
The entire course build burger multiple times with 400+ videos... 🤦♂️
Is it really a thing? No matter what frontend framework you pick, you got build a burger with it 🤤6
WTF just happened here? No. Really.. How did the guys manage to do this ? Anyone put on Sherlock Holmes hat and try to deduce what could have happened ?6
So if I understood it correctly...
Google rolled out YT-Dark for quite some time now FOR IOS(!!!)
And Android doesn't really have it? Random users get random popups asking if they wanns switch to dark but there's no official dark theme?
(Seriously:) WHAT THE FUCK?!
No wonder everyone switches to other services8
I'm super divided.
I really want to spread devRant at the office, cause no one should miss out on this! But at the same time they might notice my rants about them.
Someone commented the import block with “This is the import section”
I really wanted to add a comment under it that said “no shit”4
Really hate when people say development for Linux is really difficult, especially when it comes to game development and porting engines...
It really isn't, it's no more difficult to bloody windows and personally think it's easier than Mac development. Worse comes to, mono exists and is pretty damn stable, getting something ported to Linux really isn't as difficult as people try and make it out to be -,-15
So family doesn't really know coding. Just me and my little sister. But then my dad suddenly made jokes with loops and stuff. I have no idea where he learned it. They're not actually accurate but I really love it when he does that.2
Today I got an email that my bug report for alsa-driver is no longer valid, because Ubuntu version it was reported on is no longer officially supported.
Previous email related to that issue was from 7 Aug 2011, where they changed status to "confirmed".
Almost a decade.
I wouldn't say I'm complaining, maintaining open source is really hard, but that's an experience I had in 99%. Almost any issue I create (and I only make them when really desperate) dies in "stale". What's more annoying most of issues I end up searching google shares the same fate.
And maybe that's totally ok for non-trivial issues, but annoying AF.2
Really? Is this the Ubuntu Unity logo? Tech journalists honestly, if you want to write about new tech things write properly with proper information and relevant images. No dev will read that article if you do this kind of blunder.4
Well, any equipment really, for those with super levels of hearing.
Then you spend hours trying to find the perfect spot to wedge something to stop it humming at you.
Of course, no one else can hear it !8
Hey all... I have a question...
So, I m really burnt out of coding (C++ guy here)... I have always been learning something but never built anything... I really wanna make some game or something but it jst takes soooo long... M really lacking motivation and m soooo through learning stuff for now...
Please suggest what do i do? (Cant change language... I find all others boring... No offense)12
Just got myself an iPhone se. Was proud android fan for 4 years.
No hate, but android apps really feel like cheap knock-offs.
I'm never coming back.24
Can we stop down-voting things for no reason, it's really starting to grind at me as we have worked hard to make this community awesome.10
My internship is starting to make me feel really stupid
The issue seems easy but I literally have no clue what to do or even where to start. :(9
So I'm in Italy, close to Milan, the biggest infected zone in the whole country.
I'm still going to work as we're in 2 people in the office and we're alone in a 90 square meters office, so no big deal after all.
My city is actually empty right now, so I'm just going from home to work speeding on my motorcycle (no really that speeding, since my motorcycle isn't that powerful)
So nothing really changed actually and I'm still working the same way I did before8
My University's tech support are all really happy and glad to help people. Was going to look into a student job, but damn no way in hell I could be that helpful and happy lol2
It's really sad how companies in UAE misusses the internship term, and make the poor interns do full time job with minimum or no salary.4
I've got styles in index.php and styles in style.css. When I move the styles in index.php over to style.css THE WHOLE SITE BREAKS!?!?!?
ALL I DID WAS MOVE THEM! NO OTHER CHANGES!!!
I REALLY HATE CSS.9
Less stress.. No panic.. And yea.. Beer. Drink beer if you're really stressed... Helps me out everytime..
By the way I am drinking beer as I write this..10
So I did make a few website, they kinda worked well, but they really were ugly as fuck in terms of UI and UX.
So everytime a company was asking "have you got any website to show"
"NO, ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT, BUT YOU CAN TRUST ME I'M A REALLY GOOD DEVELOPER"8
Me: We have a style problem.
Me: Really? I found the solution with just 1 CSS line.
I wish I had programming friends I could talk to. I have no one I can really talk about all this with34
Whenever tech support answers "yes, i can help you with that sir",
what they really mean is "no, but i will google it for you"
My adSense account got terminated.
Reason: No f***ing idea
Never ever used any unfair means , still. All my hardwork towards my earning lost.
My appeal to reactivate rejected.
I am really depressed.
What should i do?8
We've got this legacy PHP system that doesn't really run anywhere else than on it's server. It's not configured with git, and there's no pipeline. Just plain old SSH. How would you go about managing it?11
as a C# dev every time i have to code something in JS i'm just ranting because
- no types
- no fucking errors
i tried to move a Oval in an HTML5 canvas via Drag and Drop and after one hour I gave up...
such a fucking creepy broke language..
as a proof, if js wouldnt be that fucked up why is there typeScript, CoffeeScript, Brython, ... ?
Cant wait to finally use WebAssember...(really)10
I use my PC mainly for gaming, Anime and home stuff.
Pc is a big tower under the desk btw.
Main monitor is a 34", 1440p, 60hz from LG (it's rather old). Second one is a 29", 1080p monitor from Phillips which I also could rotate. I really have no idea what I should use it for and I never really put it on anyway.
I could do more or less professional recording for Twitch or whatever but I'm to lazy and no pro, so I only use it for some multiplayer game sessions.
Questions or ideas how to optimise my setup are welcome.
Cable management is a mess btw.
Deployed to production two days ago, errors still coming out and ALL of them have been my fault :(
I feel really shitty and I feel like I have no brain, maybe dev is not my career
Any advice to overcome this frustration? I really need to read your advices, guys :(16
Tbh my current job is as close to perfect as I can imagine ever existing. The best and smartest engineers I've ever met (better than Google, better than anywhere), all working on something we think is really really important (autonomous cars), and solving hard problems every day (some of which no one else has ever solved before).
Only downside is an internal sense that when I'm not working I'm delaying a product that will save people's lives.4
I really, but really hate popup windows on web. I just came to your website and you want my email? By hiding all the content with large popup? NO WAY. And it is not less annoying when in the middle of an article the popup jumps out at me.
Good news, google is finally going to put websites with popups below others on organic search. I hope people will finally stop placing popups on their website.
Sorry for long post.
A: I have the perfect son.
B: Does he smoke?
A: No, he doesn't.
B: Does he drink whiskey?
A: No, he doesn't.
B: Does he ever come home late?
A: No, he doesn't.
B: I guess you really do have the perfect son. How old is he?
A: He will be six months old next Wednesday.7
No offense, but if you're expecting 0 and not -80, then you know you're using floats.... Are there really devs that don't know what floating point round off is?10
took me 20min to realize why windows wasn't recognising my flash drive:
it wasn't the usb stick I plugged in but the mouse's dongle... stupid me😜
Last today's project (I think).
The history: a good cover for this pool costs as much as the pool.. The fuckers are selling the pools cheap and accessories really expensive.
7 euros cover that uses the sun to heat the water. Added hocks but no need, only really needed the weights. So... 1 extra hour spent, but I like my hocks :D5
No matter how many stackOverflow threads you study or how many resources you have, experience is really what makes a very good developer3
Im really liking python but some of my teachers told me that its no very used in businnes environment. Is that true or just hate?18
Our QA team love writing really awkward bug tickets
No reproductions steps
and every time i see one appear all i can think of is this1
Was offered a really good price to set up a webshop, and he would pay me the same amount for two literal duplicates of the site.
"Oh btw I need it so no one can see who logged in to the website, there must be no traces of activity"
IOW - he makes shitloads on illegal horse trade while I take the blame for the website.1
Coming up with a really cool inventive way to fix something that didn't look possible...... but no one will know cause you made it look so easy and no one actually understands your job. It's fine.3
I'm really into coding now for half a year. I really love that kinda flow when there pop up no errors and you work yourself through the code writing using trial and error. It's really addicting and the perfect evening.
But here comes my question: There are sometimes unsolvable errors for me (still not figuring out how to use firebase properly 😞). Is this stuff going to be fewer as I advance in coding, or am I just terrible at googling? To other beginners: Do you have often errors to that feel unsolvable for you?1
I have no idea how this tab opened, maybe I clicked something, but it's really interesting to look through, really beautiful websites (though personally some of those ratings seem harsh), especially interesting to gather new ways and ideas, some get as creative as letting you walk through a virtual museum of some sorts, with some nice music playing in the background.
the main website:
I dropped out of university because of Maths (I'm not really that bad at maths, but that thematic wasn't really mine... But whatever) and obviously had no job nor any graduation (except my school thingy) and wasn't able to study something computer science related, because that's how it goes in Germany... (If you can't pass a certain subject, you will get blocked for the studies that involve that subject for 2 years or sth... Because I failed in Maths meant that I'm fucked)
So I started an apprenticeship to atleast do something and get that degree.
In my new company I really felt (and sometime feel it nowadays) like I'm the fifth wheel on the car and don't really achieve anything (but i really do).
That really fuckin sucks and hinders the fun that I could have in my job :/6
Sometime we forget who we really are.
We aren't dumb guys with no future and it's time to remember this to yourself.
We're losing time in our lives, let's just use it as we think is better to.4
It had been too long that I had a nightmare that I wished I never had. I had one this early morning.
I was in a foreign metropolitan city with public transport trains, skyscrapers and everything. I had no phone, no cash, no card. I could have asked help from the people I see on the street but in the dream I missed that notion. I was fine for first few hours (dream time) walking along just by myself and gradually the panic mood sunk in. I was alone with no help right in the middle of broad day light among people at a busy city.
Now that I have written it down, it doesn't sound that scary at all. There was no ghost nor paranormal activity involved, no accident, no scary height, no fire, no drowning, nothing really scary at all.
I was totally scared shitless in that dream though.7
Computers are not tools, they're weapons, no ones data is safe, and most people are just oblivious to what's really going on in the Network Security and Data Security sector.4
Started learning to code while in high school. Gave up considering it as a job, but kept it as a hobby until I could no longer bare working in the marketing industry. After a really, really bad period in my life, I started to learn to code again and finally got a job.
I think the number 1 reason I hate PHP is not because the language itself is really really really bad; but because it's so easy to google "how to php" and get tons of tutorials (full of shit code) that most of the PHP programmers are bad and have no CS studies whatsoever, resulting in unmantainable tight-coupled pieces of [spaghetti] code that won't even encapsulate any business logic.
Anybody else feeling like changing to a different language a similar reason?5
Going over his first iteration of his assigned project...
Me: "This looks awfully familiar..."
"Senior Developer": "Well, I took some inspiration from your apps"
Me: "No, you copied and pasted all of it, down to my breadcrumbs..."
Senior Developer: "No, I only made it LOOK like yours, I didn't copy any of your code..."
Stupid fucking communities normally all pieces of garbage. And no, there is no built in garbage collection, but then I find this, I POST 1 THING AND I GET GREAT RESPONES AND REALLY NICE ENGAGEMENT LIKE WTF3
So we have a web page which is really poorly written and times out after 100 seconds, so I suggest this is costing us money and is a really poor user experience. It needs some refactoring.
Manager: No just increase the timeout, it will be fine.2
Thanks for notifying me.
I really needed to know about
'Default title (title parameter not sent with no..'
My grade in basic programming course went from B to C, determined by a fu****g semi colon! One damn semicolon!!!
Bare in mind that my digital exam was in NOTEPAD with no IDE, no syntax highligting, nothing but black on white!
Is there really any compilator, or realistic job environment, where this could be so devestating?!?!11
I really wanna love Rust. I really, really do. But no inheritance is just such a stupid decision. But inheritence bad REEEE. No. Just no. Composition only works fine for some things because it just isn't powerful enough to properly (without performance penalty or boilerplate, that is) emulate inheritance. Some things are just better with inheritance: Games, UI, html or xml libs, etc. Now I have to use stupid fucking workarounds because oh no we cannot implement inheritance because that's scary and might give the programmers to much power. I can decide when I want to use inheritance or composition for myself, dickheads9
Not really a rant, but now I'm back to a project NATIVE PROJECT WRITTEN IN JAVA!
No more React native for now, yay life!3
Just figured out that while I was on vacation they made a really well thought (not) decision to switch to Firebase despite having 4 fully managed VPS with low usage.
Wanna know what the big deal is?
The only one who looks like knows anything is the fucking intern.
I was trying to understand the thought process and everything revolved around "its real time" argument.
No one knows how the api really works, the benefits of "real time" , and we are using the free plan :)
Yeah... People really do overthink things here...
I'm trying out blazor at the moment, building a couple of prototypes. I really need to brush up on my html/css for the view stuff, and of course there are a few gotchas. But other than that, I really think Microsoft has nailed browser apps with this!
Client side, server side, a mix of both, runs in all major browsers + as PWA or Electron.
All logic and view manipulation in C#, no JS. And the performance is great.
The moment a client tells you to decide what they should pay and there is no deadline. I am amazed, really.1
I don't :< Honestly, it's just something I don't really think of and I either waste time or do actually work. No need to push myself
Oh no 😱
So I have a database with 12 tables, It grows really slowly and it's not really important, so I just do a manual backup once in a while.
Today, I wanted to do a backup, and realized that the content of the only table I cared about has disappeared.
I miss you Data, rip8
Really Mozilla... Putting more of my data online is going to make me more secure...
Just fuck off with your incorrect marketing bullcrap or I'm going to switch to Basilisk full time!8
Big company asking me about query optimization during a DEV position interview... Do you really have no one better than me to optimize your queries?
I'm really afraid of your codebase now... Might decline if I pass...7
I honestly have no problems with UI designers, I really don't and actually respect the work they do..
But god dammit, those fucktards should try designing the UI with actual code rather than photoshop or whatever they use these days..9
No matter the hard work you want to do, how much time you want and really spend to complete something, always a scumbag project manager will set the dates so that you won't make it in f*ing time!! Really now, it is frustrating!!
Well, I moved to a new company and all seems vanilla. But you know. Now I have this lesson to remind myself.4
If you want a really awesome overview of Vue
(I got fucking sucked into using it for my current work)
then theres no better starter article than this one:
Really solid material, take a look if you're just getting started.8
Gotta learn myself through vim and tmux because I have no choice. My laptop burst and all I have is a Raspberry Pi with Raspbian core + MATE DE installed. Don't really wanna use heavy stuff with it because it'll become really snappy.
Oh well, as long as I can code.9
Why is sleep not a choice. I have code to write but my body and mind wont let me stay up.
Too many projects so little time
No one to help 🙃
Sleep is really a devs enemy 🙆🏾♂️12
That moment when you finish making a class you're really proud of, compile and run with no errors and you realize you forgot to instantiate it..........
I do this more than I like to admit.
My phone just died. Got a new phone on recommendation of friends and flash Jolla on it. The OS is super nice but the "Android support" doesnt work. No lastpass, no netflix, no prime, signal works half, no banking app.
I really need my windows phone back. It just worked without issues. After two android phones and now a Jolla in about two years im kinda done with all this shit.15
Someone once told me our bachelor's thesis would be the most frustrating thing we've ever done. However, its really been wonderful because we can do whatever the fuck we want, meaning:
NO MORE FUCKING INLINE JS
NO MORE FUCING INLINE CSS
NO MORE FUCKING CANCEROUS CSS STYLESHEETS
NO MORE FUCKING PROCEDURAL PHP
NO MORE FUCKING XSLT
NO MORE FUCKING INLINE SQL
I don't really know why, maybe the interface, but today, after uninstalling VS2015 and installing VS2017, I wanted to edit a script in Unity and when I clicked on it, Monodevelop started. I was like OOOH NOOO!! PLEASE NO!!3
Me: I'll comment that later
Also me: Why tf isn't there any comment
No seriously, comments and documentations are really necessary. Today I've been debugging for hours, why a certain variable has a certain value. Age of code: 15+ years. No comments. No docs. 🙃5
I found this funny, or my dev-humor is just really bad :>
Friend: Java and BlueJ.
Friend: Why you indicate relationships between classes that have no relationships.
Friend: Fu BueJ
Me: It's called a crush
Precision: As in having a crush on a person, but no relationship :)1
At that moment when u r trying to promote the code and boom.
And are you really happy to pay Microsoft for this ? Fuck sake NO 😡12
So, I was fixing some code today, and stumbled upon this. Is it just me, or is this really an example of bad bad practice...? And, no, there was nothing to be executed after this function was called.6
That moment when it's midnight and you have to wake up in 6 hours but suddenly you think about a way of fixing a bug that a library that you really need and is no longer being maintained has... sigh.3
Microsoft Teams logic when using it from Chrome on Linux:
Wanna have a team call with multiple people? Sure no problem, proceed.
Wanna have a direct call with one person? Hell no, we don't do that here!
Also lets just ignore the fact that you are actually running Google Chrome, you should really try out Windows and Edge.2
And to quote Terry Pratchett, "it's indoor work with no heavy lifting. Do you really want to be a ploughman like your father?"
Having a manager and client and boss who know no programming is frustrating because when they post issues on the repo as bugs and critical but its neither of those, the terms lose all meaning because whats really happening is
THEYRE REALLY BAD AT USING COMPUTERS.1
What I really hate? When a piece of code simply refuses to work. No logs, no exceptions, no sign that it even exists. HOW THE FUCK I'M SUPPOSE TO DEBUG THIS SHIT?? I drives me crazy, if everything I do changes nothing! It makes me doubt my sanity. And I like my sanity!3
I'm probably gonna use http://codewars.com instead of doing the dumb C# programs I'm supposed to do in the programming lesson. I'll just do them really quick at home (no challenge whatsoever) and then get to more challenging stuff...2
Devrant terminal viewer is no up on github, sortof working and really broken: https://github.com/Supernerd11/...7
Really crossing my fingers at the idea of an Iphone SE2 :( i really want that to happen.
I don't really like retarded big phones and there aren't that many options in the Android area that I like.
And no, I ain't a fucking fan boy. It can be a windows phone and if i dig it i'll buy it.9
Blind coding some C# code for a website using Kentico :P
Never really wrote ASP.NET/C# code as I'm doing right now (handling file uploads, file reading/parsing, importing data into the database through code)
So far so good, works even better than I've expected, no errors in sight and it's handling exceptions really nicely too
I just hope it stays that way
P.s.: yes, I comment far too much, but I'll get better in no time :P4
Dear advertise developers.
I will NOT play fucking elvanar crap game. No, bugging me with music and queations if i really want to close the Browser tab wont change my mind.
To quote Terry Pratchett in Small Gods: "It's indoor work with no heavy lifting. Do you really want to be a ploughman like your father?"
Lots of great things about working from home – no, really – but something about my home desk/keyboard/chair set up is really fucking up my shoulder, and this is not fun.4
Not really a burnout, but after 10 hours of coding and almost no food it gets extremly hard to concentrae.1
we've to figure out a way to deal with the re-posts. -.- I really feel bad for downvoting a re-post because the user had no idea about it.(even though it's funny)10
I was at a family event, and you know that one aunt who won't stop talking and asking you questions? Yeah she was basically harassing me, and since family and all I can't really ignore her even though I really want to.
In comes my 3 year old niece, who just walks towards us like a badass, pats that aunt's leg and goes "no one likes to talk to you!"
I need my niece as my personal bodyguard and human filter.1
Not really a rant but..... Just found this while cleaning my PSP's Memory Stick collection
As a CS student this part makes me feel gud
(It's No Game No Life btw)2
After office time. That time really works. Learn from online courses. And apply it. No one will be there. Silence!1
"I don't know about changing that part of the platform"
-"Do you see any other way?"
"No, but this one is pretty complex"
-"Would you like me not to do it?"
"No, but like, really test it, OK? It's a very complex part of the platform"
-"Would you like me to include the phrase 'this was really fucking complex' in the release documentation?"
Sometimes I think my boss is against coding :/
I love building stuff and when i have something that I'm really into, it's hard to concentrate on the boring stuff i need to finish first.
Sometimes i just need to do what i feel like doing, doesn't matter. No, i won't go to bed, no i can't do the other stuff, i need to do that!1
I did one thing really smart, schedule my vacation and tell them no access to computer. I also did a stupid thing. I told them 2weeks ahead. So for the next 2weeks I’m going to work double everyday. Lesson learn.5
The assholes in my class (or just my classmates) keep asking me:"Yo, man, do you hack to websites and stuff?" And I always say " No, I don't really know how" and they keep saying " why won't you learn how to do this, shouldn't be that hard" and it's getting really hard to explain to them that I have no desire to ruin someones day, I just want to help people and make others happier. Any ideas for new answers for these questions?
Or, if you like, any good websec books?10
No racist but most of the self-claimed expert freelance programmers from India really pissed me off! Their resume has one common pattern, many of them are expert in more than 5 languages.6
Every *brand new framework/language* online course starts with writing ToDo app. But in real life there is no really good ToDo app yet1
Just received this really weird email. Probably spam, but why even bother when there is no link or attachment? Maybe it is encrypted... 🤔 What do you think? Anyways, the server has SSH enabled anyone care to bruteforce? :^)10
I loved you Xamarin.Forms I really did.
I defended you everywhere... Released 5 apps.
You FUCKING SUCK, no svg support (no none of the apis work), startup time is FUCKING insane, i could go on for hours......
Please any Android Developer out there is there any smooth transition to native? (Dont tell me about Js bullshit)
Help me fell the Native Power of Android.
Show me that apps don't need 20 seconds to start.8
Everyone was joking about how no major innovations are really being made for front-end. Then you get Microsoft saying they want native 3D model support in browsers. Like, for what?4
The no. of likes on devRant FB page just shows how lazy we developers are, and that we don't really use FB :p
I think devRant shouldn't really worry about FB, and when I say FB, first thing that comes to my mind is Firebase :P2
I wish I had the ability to survive on as little sleep as the people on here. I cannot function without at least 5 hours of sleep. And yet, I constantly get only around 3.5.
It's not even that I'm doing something interesting so late at night.1
You have a cake and a knife. You need 8 slice, but the knife is rubbish and will disintegrate after 2 cuts.
Its a really fun company I worked for.
No spoilers guys...14
In the project I'm working on with others, really complex and confusingly programmed, there's a method called "check[...]IsSet". It gives back a string. They went out of their way to write a Javadoc for it and what does it say?
"@return the string"
No, really? I think I could have figured that out by myself! But what's in it, dammit?
All I needed to do was temporarily change a 4 row by 5 column css-based <div> layout to a 2 row by 3 column css-based <div> layout. The layout is now right but links don’t work for no damned apparent reason. I really really really really really suck at my job as a coder and I just need to go live in a cave and never, ever touch a computer again.6
I really should start using a password manager but I have no idea what one to choose, anyone have any input?
I'm thinking 1Password at the moment13
Started working with a startup. They have one Dev guy, who for some reason is using both python 3 and 2 in the same git repo, and had no requirement.txt or anything to really track dependencies....
For fuck sake, the Dev guy is actually intelligent, but really freaking messy.. why can't he have this basic thing done...2
I've got a question for everyone as we are all in the same realm. How do you handle working for a company who provides no motivation, very little challenges, horrible pay, incompetent developers, and completely useless management?
Also, no other opportunities in the area. Literally. So, "change companies" wouldn't really be a viable option.13
Yo devRant !
There's my FIRST little Game with Js :
Good Game ? (Esc to show controls)
PS: Don't look at the code, if you don't want to cry... It's no really finish...7
Coworker 1 asked if there was a website where he can learn more about Formstack.
Coworker 2 said no.
Coworker 1 asked him then what about formstack itself? Is their website helpful? Do they have a help section?
Coworker 2: "Well there’s not really a websiiiiiite for help, but their main website has a page for help.”
Coworker 1: “can you send me a link?”
Coworker 2: "no. I mean I can, but I mean they don’t really have a help website, but just help on their website.”
Coworker 1: "WTF!"2
Typical Windows 10:
When you don't need to do something fast - I'm super fast OS, I have no bugs and I won't throw BSOD's
When you need to do something REALLY fast - Hey, I've got some updates, I'll be installing them during several eternities and I'll throw you some BSOD's cause I can
PS. In such cases I really want to install linux1
Does this mean devRant has no icon for Pie apps switcher?
Or is it only happening to me?
// I really miss the old stacked design btw. Not a big fan of Android P.18
I'm stuck...I life in small city, there is like 3-6 Web programming companies...my salary just got smaller for no reason...and I'm programming with fuckin Magento... I'm really want to live on Mars, alone.2
Anyone interested in the new Asus ROG phone? It looks super thuggish, and is being marketed as a "gaming phone." I think it looks neat, but 6" is way too big for me, there's no sdcard, and no LTE bands have been listed yet.
But it comes with a really cool docking station, which to me, makes it an ideal parsec rig.
What do you think?6
I can't really figure out how I grew from learning_syntax -> remembering_function_names -> following_patterns -> developing_a_personal_style -> reading_the_doc -> getting_the_source.
Well I have a long memory problem, so I guess it happened overnight!
Wait, did the doctor say it was a memory problem? Hell no!
Okay, so there's one guy in my class, which offends me for no reason (I don't give a f about that), and then few minutes later he comes to me and asks "can you make forum/launcher/website". So I say no, because I'm not gonna waste my time for free... So he offends me even more.
When I was telling "Sure, but that will cost you X PLN (Polish Nominals)" - he laughed.
This is really annoying.7
I really want my dev team to ask me to go to happy hour so I can suggest meeting at Foo Bar. Though, that may be why no one's asked..4
Google Apps Script is probably the worst scum of the earth I’ve come across in a while.
No wonder nobody uses this crap and has proper implementation of a vast variety of applications.4
When u converted ur codebase to Kotlin all because you heard about it, but really have no idea what Kotlin is!5
queue late night coding session, everything going smoothly and making good progress.
Really in the flow and getting stuff done, just got my rations to get some extra hours in of these devGod blessed hours of enlightedment.
a flash. then darkness. completele darkness. no light on in my room anymore, my screen is black... there is no more whirring of fans...
I look outside to see Its dark in the streets aswell...
In my mind I already know it's not gonna do anything, but i press the power button on my computer nonetheless... no response... more deadly silence...
really?! really?!?! those motherfucking knob gobbling, shit brained, waste of oxygen pieces of human waste really had to get a fucking power outage at this moment? You had one fucking job. ONE. FUCKING. JOB.1
You know what really grinds my gears? Products that have no right of linking your data to an online platform.
Case and point: Password Managers. Nearly all of them work only with an account on a given service, have the passwords stored on their servers and so on and so forth. There is 0 transparency and for that matter 0 security. I found my choice, though it infuriates me terribly.
Another thing are budget managers. The switch for YNAB from local to on servers really annoys me. They should have no business in storing my very private data on their server. I don't understand people using it either.1
You know what really rustles my jimmies, the fact that a lot of people (especially older people) disregard your profession or refuse to talk about because "i dont understand dem computers" so they generally have no idea what you're actually doing and you cannot give an explanation.
Ffs, I don't really understand chemistry but I would still like to know what you do at work/school and maybe even learn sonething. There is no fucking reason for why this also shouldnt apply for IT.5
I attend quite some conferences throughout the year, and I'm so freaking tired of those companies with their pepper robot that really don't have a clue what to do with it.
So I wrote a little rant about it.
Softbank acquired Boston Dynamics a while ago.. you really think it's just to get you a robot on a conference with its only purpose to say hello?
Oh yeah, while I'm at it. No, RPA is not what the research area robotics really is about and stop calling it AI!2
Got extremely stuck and I have absolutely no clue about what I am really doing. I think I've messed up the whole codebase with these new changes.5
My first ever system... It was bad, no coding standards, no reusing, no pattern, no nothing. I really don't know how I managed to make it work.
I work at a small company (4 devs, CTO, a senior, me: mid level, and a new junior dev). Junior and I handle the client projects and the Senior and CTO handle the overall platform and server deployments and such. Our senior dev just gave his 2 weeks notice. I was told they are not replacing him and now ALL of his tasks have been pushed onto me on top of all my already full plate. My issue is, although I am excited to learn about the upper management and deployment stuff, they (CTO and CEO) just dumped all these tasks onto me without even asking if I wanted the added responsibility and also told me there is no monetary bonus for taking it all on. Am I right in being a little mad that I was not even asked if I wanted it and it was just assumed I would handle it all without any bonus or monetary promotion?5
Designer: 'Help! The parallax website I designed is running really slowly. Fix it! Fix it! Fix it!'
Me (In my head): 'Yeah, no shit. Can't think why...'
co-worker : "hey, have you listened to this cool rocking song"
*Absolutely no idea about what he's talking about*
Me : *internally screaming* no I haven't
CW : well you should check it out, it really blah blah blah
I lost interest mid-way.
Protip : never intimate your colleagues out of their interest
VI is awesome!! It can open big files wtih no stress and performs queries really fast. The engine is very well designed and optimized but not the interface.2
While debugging a service on a linux server...
Log-level info: no really useful information and no hint about the bug
Log-level debug: OMFG TAKE THAT 2GB LOG FILE
Why all the time 😧
So is this true? Does the caste thing really follow you around outside of India or is this a Hindu thing? Because I don’t know.
Devrant app getting really slow in terms of loading. Content opens after 3 - 4 trials of restarting the app. Otherwise just connectivity issue or blank screen(with no loading). Anyone else facing it?14
As much as I love CodeIgniter, it is really showing its age (I know v4 is in progress). Most of the extensions and libraries are really old (4,5 years of no activity on GitHub) or abandoned, feeling like one is visiting 2008, it makes me sad.
i might not have ssh access to live instances but i can redirect live traffic to test instances and debug my shit there!
... no but i really do that2
Is it just me or is the majority of all additional slack apps really just crap? Many cannot even be installed because the website is no longer available (WorkingOn as an example).
Not a single app really helps us in our workflow. I lost the interest to try more of them :(1
The moment when you realize that you have to at least double your media queries to guarantee a good result for that little element at the end of your page that no one really needs... :^(1
Holy fucking shit I hate using bitbucket, that utter piece of crap. It is so fucking slow to use. Coming from Github, I really hate the pull requests page, with no fucking syntax highlighting or anything.5
No Jokes/Rant this time..
All React.js lovers.. follow this blog from one of the creators of React https://overreacted.io
Found it really cool.. even for folks not working on reactjs.
Ignore, if following already!3
I really wanna use sublime because it's super snappy but I can't use it without having a shit tonne of inconvenience. It has no property package Implementing something like intellisense. Vscode has that but it makes me feel really slow3
So I have purchased the domain studioentropy.com. It's taken me all afternoon but I've set up and configured aws s3 buckets and route 53 zone an entries and my shite asse site is now online, hooray... My question is with regards to https. Given that ny site is really only going to be a single page site with relatively static content, no eccomerce of any kind, no passing of sensative information is required, is it really worth going through the pain of configuring cloudfront so the site uses https instead of http?13
It really blows when dev is down and no one replies to my messages. It's as if it being down doesn't affect them because they're not doing work or something.3
No idea if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I feel it would be really cool if @dfox could public some kind of stats for devRant (anonymous, but on things like post count per day, topics etc...)1
When creating a new indie game with no budget start really really small. Because it will grow faster than you can say 'input mapping'.
Tfw can't get internships on topics I'm really good at but get shortlisted right away for some internship for which I have no skills whatsoever.
I have no face. If i choose a face, can i go back to having no face? I've made it this far and as others have agreed, a regular ol plumbus doesn't have a face. So i don't want to be stuck with a face. I really want to just mess with the color of my facelessness.2
What really grinds my gears?
To teach german coders that there is no plural of the word "information", over and over and over and over again!
There is no informations. There is only bits of information or information.
First the web, then then the world muahahaha 🦹🏻♂️
Ok no really, probably just try to get a remote job building ui's or doing animations then who knows, maybe I'll build a robot or something 🤷🏻♂️1
To be able to use actual Jarvis or the OASIS from the fictions.
// Have no intention to develop one by myself. But I really wish I can use those as a dev.6
Colleague from other departement told me, his teamlead tacitly removed all comments from the source. They have no official style guide about comments or discussed it on the team, teamlead just thinks the source should be readable enough, so that there are no comments needed.
That would make me think about quitting really fast.1
I really do like VSCode but it is still lacking some features that i find essential.
There is no intellisense when for HTML in a PHP File. Although CSS Autocompletion works in HTMl Files. Quite Annoying4
Since I started living by Sandi Metz rules for devs, i feel like my code has really improved.
* Classes can be no longer than one hundred lines of code.
* Methods can be no longer than five lines of code.
I hope you find them as usefull as I did.2
My internship 2 years ago. Worked 6 months for absolutely no cash. Still really enjoyed it, learned so much from amazing people.
Sublime text... works on almost every OS.
On my side projects, probably visual studio (i really like VS debugger).
Sometimes vim, if there is no GUI to work with2
One of the truth no one wants to say because what can not be can not be.... but...
Maven is fuck... bullshit... failure by design.
For each project I need an own settings.xml. Always something not working. The same artifactory password 10 times there. Null pointer exceptions all over the place. Basics like versioning not really solved.
In all my years with Ant I never had so much problems than with Maven.
This settings.xml is really a design failure. Crap.1
You know what really sucks. Looking for work. Been at this for ages now and still have not had any offers, a few interview but no offers. So damn demoralizing.1
Today I'm really happy!! Solved a problem I was stuck with for past two days and I had almost believed there's no way I'll be able to solve it any time soon.
I’ve no idea how to set up OpenVPN on my server and phone to allow me to browse securely while I’m using open WiFi spots, and it’s really getting to me that I can’t figure it out.4
Anybody has some resources on how to write emulators(e.g NES, GB,DOS) as Android apps?
This topic really intersts me and I have no idea how it works
Why am I no longer getting push notifications from Devrant? I really miss those.
Having to open the app to check for notifications is not as rewarding.
And yes, I have them enabled in the settings 🙁5
I'm in a seminar they are talking about IT. The speakers is an idiot (really does graphic design and talking about no good products and so boring) and the other guests are writing down so much.6
Difference between security threat and programming bug ?
Found a cool paper about format string attacks which mentioned buffer Overflow is a security threat while format string is a programming bug.
Had no idea what that really meant.
I have tons of old phones, I'd like to use them as IOT devices. Anyone know a really small Android rom with no extras? Not only no Playstore, but also no fancy theme engine etc, so I can use them as servers etc1
No one was really surprised.
They mostly told me all my life that's what I should do because I always liked video games and was on the computer a lot.
I mean, I can see how it might have helped a bit, but it doesn't really have that much to do with it.1
I gotta say that I really like Christmas trees if for no other reason than they are nearly the only type that aren’t upside-down.
I'm thinking of picking up a 4th language, since I didn't really enjoy german (no offense).
Any japanese or chinese people in here?7
So really there's no way to use unity on a high DPI monitor in Linux?
I can't believe this is still not implemented..2
Phew, long time no see, devRant!
That Uni really squished life out of me. Damn. But awesome damn.
Still love ya tho, just want you to know that. You're awesome, really:)1
Was really happy when I found out I was getting an XPS 15 for work, but no. After spending two weeks with it, I can honestly say it's a terrible laptop16
Sometimes, GCC is cool with you, warn you for every no-return int function or little parenthesis which could make the code easy to read.
And sometimes, you can get the fuck off, because initialized variables are no big deal. Really ...
Not really a Rant but:
My Productivity Method:
1. Nootropics (Nootrobox Daily, Sprint for 6+ hour work/focus periods)
2. Ketogenic Diet (Ridiculous Energy, Amazing Food Choices, No Crashing, No Cheating!)
3. Moderate Exercise
4. Get Lit (Partying) once a month at least, hard liquors.
5. Nicotine (Vaping 6mg) while coding.
6. Caffeine (Bulletproof Coffee)
7. League of Legends breaks.
8. Weekly Cigar Social with other professionals.
Balance Vice with Virtue is a great combination for getting stuff done.
What keeps you going?2
Want to know how to really screw the performance of your web service? Throw in some database row locks with no timeout
Looks like no one really purchased devRant collabs listing yet..all were using there +2000's for there 1 free listing 🤔1
So I found this really cool website but I have no idea who owns it, any idea how I could find out something like this?
When the final card is checked off and you realize the past year and a half has been spent making this absolute monster of a service. There really is no better feeling.
I swear there is just no documentation on GTK3 themes. I'm trying to change window decorations in an existing GTK theme and there's just no info out there. On top of that my posts for help have gotten a grand total of 0 replies.
If you happen to know where I can find some info about it I would really appreciate it.
It's for a friend... No really13
I want to start development on a scrutineering system for dancing (specifically within South Africa), problem is I have absolutely no clue which language I want to use. I need to cater to multiple OS's while also taking into account that the people using the software will be in areas with no internet, really bad computers, and no tech knowledge. At the moment I am leaning more towards c++ (I am quite comfortable in the language)
Obligatory Star Wars comment.
No, really though. Star Wars is awesome and I can’t wait for that Lando movie
Greetings guys and gals.
I found an old laptop of mine and since I don't really use it anymore, I want to try "the linux" on it.
My question is, what's a nice linux distribution to make the windows transition smoother.
I have a vps so I'm not afraid to use the terminal.
I just want vscode and a browser on it, no gaming, no video editing, nothing fancy.
I really don't like to use image sprites, but when we have to, it's hard to explain how specific they need to be. (All the way specific) and then they need to be halved... so no odd widths or heights...
Life is tough when you get angry at bubbles in stickers that were poorly placed, but you, yourself, place stickers really poorly. No matter how hard I try fixing them, it's no use...
I got yet another interesting question today:
"Why do people make demos with such old machines? No one's using an Amiga or C64 anymore."
I can't really answer this one.4
Why do people (mostly clients) love to pay using paypal? Don't they know it's not a bank and there's really no fraud protection.
I know I'm enabling it by offering PayPal as a payment option...3
Having the capability to work from home (or anywhere really) with little to no hindrance of my progress or my ability to communicate with my co-workers
I'm currently doing something very similar to something I've done ~1.5 years ago, but my old notes/work fragments aren't really helpful
*inserts 'I have no memory of this place' meme*
Annoyed by the number of commercial guys at this tech conference in NOLO. Is there really no devs here?
