When i was studying Engineering, I used to wonder how programmers works straight 3,4 days without sleep and all.
With today, I completed my 3rd day, with just 2 hours sleep in the last 70 hours.
Now I get it,
This is.. passion,
This is.. love,
This is Life.16 -
I wonder how long before people get twitchy thinking I’m hacking just running some database load tests17
-
Tester: I'm going to start testing your Android code. How do I set up it?
Me: just bring me an Android test device and I'll show you
Tester: *comes back holding a big golden phone*
Me: *huh? Haven't seen that Android device before... I wonder which manufacturer made it*
Tester: *puts down golden phone on my desk* here you go!
Me: 😱😱😱😱
...
HUH? This is an iPhone!!!!
😩😱😧😖😰😫😵😱😱4 -
I wonder how would devRant send the mail with my MAC address? The hard way by tracking down my system having having the MAC address and deliver it to me?? 😂😂
DevRant is being unaware that we all are devs here 😂13 -
Once I used to wonder how youtube made money.
Now every time I watch a youtube video I am reminded how.12 -
In retrospect, being open about autism in the workplace was a very bad decision.
My manager and CTO got to know about it and since that moment, every single thing I do has a different meaning to them.
All my technical decisions have to be validated by someone else, and my critique about how certain things are done is dismissed as if I were some kind of alien.
I really wonder when they're gonna ask me about their future or something.28 -
I wonder how the secret service comes up with all these cool names for secret operations they do when i am sitting here thinking what to name one variable for last 30mins. I should probably hire someone from there as a variable namer dev..7

There are a lot of people hating on Microsoft (C#, .Net ...) in devRant. And there are a lot praising StackOverflow, linux and opensource.
I wonder how it makes them feel that stackoverflow is built on .Net and C# and is not open source!
Btw, I love linux too, I just don't hate the other operating systems(companies).13 -
We are using this book for a subject
"Open Source Technologies"
No wonder how my classmates are gonna learn Android programming from this book.
I'm grateful to myself that I learned it online.8 -
I wonder, do you also sometimes take a tech book and read it like a novel?
Maybe I'm strange. It's just thrilling to read about a new problem and wonder 'oh my God, how will they solve it' - can't wait to read on 😅7 -
I worked with this guy at a startup one time, and just to annoy me, he would write commit comments describing how I was such a bad developer, or how I was such a horrible person. After like the 15th time he did this, I decided to be totally unprofessional and do the same for him... our commit comments quickly turned into a conversation where we would just insult each other (as a joke).
The original developers of the startup no longer work there (including me and him)... I wonder who's reading those comments now.3 -
Me: 'im doing frontend here, i wont bother with the server stuff'
Pm: 'ok'
...
Me: 'here i finished the full stack because the backend team is a bunch of jackasses'
Pm: 'did you set up the server?'
...
Me: 'no because its not my job'
Pm: 'you have to do it'
Sometimes it makes me wonder if he even knows how programming works.14 -
i got high praise for my work today, and i can't understand why 😂
i consider my work average at best, but my boss told me everyone sings my praises behind my back. i wonder how dire things must be that this is considered excellent11 -
Yes, this is actually a real thing.
I wonder in what you learn in the prerequisite "Keyboard and Mouse skills" class if this one teaches you how to type and delete text...8 -
Just received an email from Apple ID noreplyappleidaccountlocked.case4125@trustedsender.company that said my apple ID is locked. I must send my personal details to unlock them.
I wonder how many people got caught by it :(12 -
I woke up and had a thought...
I may have exceeded "10,000 hours of experience" in programming.
10,000 hrs / 2hrs per day / 360 days in a year = 14 years
I've been programming for 20 years as a hobby, and 5 years professionally which I think averages out to the 2hrs per day
I wonder if and how I should put that more explicitly on my resume. And maybe that's why I see so many monkeys at work...7 -
Yesterday my employer banned the use of all wireless keyboards and mice due to security concerns. This applies to all employees, including our many remote employees (I wonder how they plan to enforce that). I’m trading in my nice quiet wireless keyboard for some Cherry MX blues to protest. I really liked my current keyboard and mouse too. RIP8
-
I wonder. What makes people so offensive about their opinions?
"How the f can you use Windows?"
"I can't believe you use android..."
"What an idiot he uses tabs..."
I don't get it... respect subjectivity?10 -
I wonder how a bug report on devRant may look like.
Something like a bug report and a fix on the same email?1 -
!rant I don't understand how a lot of you guys can work 10-14 hours a day! I see a lot of those messages and it makes me wonder if I am a lazy dev or something. After 8 hours of working I'm just exhausted and wanting to go home to my family :/12

I've had a Twitter bot running for just over a year now. It's going to gain it's 6000th Follower at some point today.
I find it odd that an automated account I made has more Followers than all of my human accounts across all social networks combined - a lot more. I like to wonder about my bot Followers, how many of them are bots? How many of them are real and feel an actual connection with "me" and look forward to my Tweets, blissfully unaware that it's a bot?10 -
"Hey that's nice, they added a README, I wonder what this weirdly named repo is and ..."
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE README YOU CAN EXPAND IT BY ADDING INFORMATION ON HOW TO...
"Fuck" -
I wonder how many decades it will take until employees stop to fucking stick their passwords to the computer screen at their station. It is a complete fucking nightmare if you are responsible for the network!
Can we bring back the guillotine? But it must be stub!
Those nitwits shall suffer!19 -
So I never had a proper education in IT. Started web development as a hobby, then some people started giving me money for it, and here I am, working as a fulltime web dev since 2001 and SEO expert since 2010.
Still, I sometimes wonder how much I really know compared to some fresh coder who just got out of university.
I know how to create great software from A to Z, but still I sometimes get the feeling that I am missing the fundamental basics.
Is that weird?3 -
I wonder how many devs are learning English on devRant.
I'm kind of sad I don't get a chance to practice any (spoken) languages.21 -
That moment that you finally have a functioning goddamn application and then you notice that the queries (Postgis) are so fucking heavy (one percent load up when executing about 5 simultaneously) that you start to wonder how you'll ever run this in production...
I know jack shit about Postgres/Postgis, this is going to be fun 😐14 -
I'm not being high and mighty but I wonder how come someone claims they have loads and loads of years of experience in software engineering and they cannot even write an English sentence with a space after each comma.22

I wonder how programmers make money. And found this answer
One creates Bugs and other fixes it.
Love this programming world 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩2 -
Becoming a High Reputation Stackoverflow Master
Can work like this:
1. Look for questions like "How do I add a value to a list"
2. Post "Use list.Add(x)" faster than any of the 20 expected answers that will be written for this question
3. Become accepted solution
4. Get 100 up votes as more people unaware of API documentation come across your answer
Sometimes answers and questions are so trivial you wonder how this would be upvoted by anyone ever.2 -
seeing these things make me very uncomfortable, I feel like reaching into the software and wiping it off, makes me wonder how much of a mess this npm ecosystem is going to become, I really dont know much of how these things work. I figured the issue could probably be the same across languages, libraries sitting atop libraries until the whole thing becomes unmanageable. I'll stop rambling now
that's the installation of expo-cli8 -
After 10 years maintaining the same codebase, I sometimes find features in the system that I wrote years ago and I forgot they existed, like "Cool, I didn't know the system was able to do that, I completely forgot, I wonder how it works, and God knows how I wrote this shit, let's see..".
I've even found myself starting to implement features that already exist, and then having to revert the changes.3 -
I just wonder If a app/website HRrant exists where time to time HR's talk about how antisocial, strange creatures they met. 😂5
-
Not really a rant.
When you start learning a new prog paradigm focused on a particular branch of math and then see it being used to solve a sudoku puzzle in 3 lines of code. Well, that shit changes you and makes you wonder how much shit in the field we don't focus in for being too concerned with everythingPython and everythingNode
Brain is mush but I am loving this shit.9 -
Just had a fire at work.
git add, git commit, git push.
No one was hurt. But, the fire was in a server room and the git server is down. At least the halon deployed successfully.
The off site backup should be up in 20 mins. I wonder how often they pull the repo.3 -
Guess who got fucking fired. They want someone more experienced. Well fuck off. Its no wonder why there are no front end developers in your company. Now until the end of this month I have to find some job because of bills.. Going to try freelancer and check a couple of companies in my area. Any tips on how to get a freelance job?9
-
I wonder how many bitflips did they trigger last night...
Looks pretty. But much too scarry when you understand what it is.3 -
I started thinking and worrying about numbers much more than before
in the US, you write numbers like this:
1,000.00
in Germany usually like this:
1.000,00
and in programming languages like this:
1000.00
now i wonder how to type a number, whenever i have to use german software
should i use the US way, the german way or the dev way? the wrong one could possibly break it11 -
Yo it's been a while.
Forgot I still had devRant++ and thought it's high time I return :-)
Wonder how many of the oldies are still here5 -
This kid on the tape is me. I'm not even two years old there and I'm already messing around with wires.
Five minutes later on that tape I figured out how to turn the vacuum cleaner on and tried to tie it to the cassette deck.
No wonder why I'm a programmer now 😂 -
Me, about to head out for work: Hey I wonder how much time I have left before the train departs
Clock: 02:00
Me: fuck I did it again
Waking up thinking it's time to start the day and then figure out you can still sleep for 4 hours, while having already showered, put clothes on, eaten breakfast6 -
"What's new" for the latest MIUI update on my phone. I wonder how they finally managed to convince the alarm clock to work on holidays. 🤔1
-
Came across the moral machine..
http://moralmachine.mit.edu/
Some of the dilemmas would even confuse a human, I wonder how would an artificial general intelligence perform in such scenarios9 -
Websites that still for w/e reason limit the number of characters a password can have...
Seriously, when a website starts bitching about me entering a 32-character password generated by my password manager "being too long", I seriously start to wonder how they store the password...9 -
Sometimes I wonder why my company has a helpdesk for our customers when the help desk doesn't even know how to use the product we sell. I spend more time supporting our helpdesk than I do programming.1
-
I wonder how many timers, clocks, hello world's and random number generators have been created.
Ever.1 -
I wonder, how will I ever able to understand memes posted here😂😂.
So much stuff to learn out there that I get overwhelmed.
People talk about VIM and bash and Emac and what not 😓.,and here I am studying border-radius in CSS😂8 -
Came across this Norwegian Job posting. I wonder how many recruiters that are unaware of the "hide the pain Harold" meme..1
-
I wonder how big is the github usage spike around the end of semesters cause us students are determine to fit a semester worth of work in the last week.1
-
Sometimes I think that git is like a drug. After getting past the initial learning curve, you use it in every single one of your projects. Sometimes I wonder how have I ever survived without git before.3
-
This Russian site (https://kzclip.com) literally cloned the whole of youtube including its channels and also its recommendation logic... i wonder how those crazy bastards did it.7
-
Me: I'm a hardcore dev lookin for trouble, can't flex on me, js on the streets and css in the sheets, watchoutttt
Also me: fuck how do I control F but like more
Also also me: I wonder how many ramen packets I'd have to eat to retire at 30 -
No wonder my Python code was broken. I called the super function of the wrong ancestor 🙄 Lesson learned: run the tests after every functional change, no matter how trivial it might seem.2
-
Goodness. Looking at the wk80 rants, I wonder how people's printers are breaking so often. 😮
Mine hasn't misbehaved in years.5 -
🎶Lemon Tree🎶
I wonder why,
I wonder how,
This stupid piece of code actually works right now.
And all that I could see, it's actually compiling...
(Happens all the time)1 -
Manager: how long does it take to add this functionality?
Me: 🤔, give me 6 days.
Man: perfect, you'll have 4 days
Me: why ask me then?
Man: so you feel included in the decision 🙂
Me: ..... Right... And ignored....
And now he wonders why, since then, I overestimate the times... And I wonder why he didn't fire me, my friends get scared everytime I talk to our manager 😛, actually, they forbid me from talking in meetings 😛. -
My next stack overflow post on a fake account.
NOTHING WORKS IN WINUX!!!?
WEN I TRY 2 INSTAL WINUX, IT GIVE MEH ERRWOR. HALP!
I wonder how many downvotes I will get?
I'm not normally a troll, but today has been "fun"2 -
Fuuuuuck this.
The shit i see at work with some fucky codebases.
I should have just gone to music school.
Oh ya, i never shared that with you devrant fam. I was going for music school before comp sci.
:)
But yeah, wonder how that would have gone.6 -
I'm truly surprised how well Linux is coping with my 32GB RAM dev laptop :)
Currently open and actively used:
1. 2x Chrome windows (70-100 tabs total)
2. 5x IntelliJ Idea projects
3. 3x AndroidStudio projects
4. 2x different grade daemons
Still snappy, still quick af!
I wonder how windows would handle that. From my xp 2 IDEs already were a struggle34 -
I started my part time job as a tutor today. Yesterday (while preparing) I learned how a browser actually renders a page and bunch of other stuff. Don't get me wrong, I kind of knew it. But not in such detail that I could ever explain it... even though I work in web development since 2011
This will be fun, I wonder what I will learn next2 -
Is it worth to learn vim? I mostly write code in JS and currently using VSCode so I wonder if it is worth spending the time to learn how to properly use vim17
-
I had a mid semester test and there was one question on how we should create class names. I was very tired, so the test started like around 9-ish. Instead of saying Camel Case method I said Camel Toe method.
Makes me wonder how did they come up with the name "camel casing" anyways?4 -
I've just come to realize that in all the time I ran Netdata on my servers, it was nightly releases, automatically updated too.. that somehow never really broke. Not even minor issues.
I really like that... Moving fast doesn't always have to imply breaking things. I wonder how they're doing it.2 -
Basically everything. Let me explain.
It's now.. okay what time is it? Ooh there's some dust on the clock, I wonder how do they form.. I guess I'll check Wikipedia. Page is loading, might as well scroll fb while waiting. Ooh a video on the home feed! Oh wait it's loading, I wonder what's on YouTube. Ugh, ads, let's just mute it and scroll devRant. Oh cool there's something called Google FooBar challenge, imma try searching Arraylist Java. Nice, lv1 done, let's take a break by getting a drink from the fridge.
*Walks back to room after drinking a sip of orange juice* hmm.. what time is it? Oh it's late, imma go to sleep!
*Shuts down everything and goes to bed* Maybe I'll just browse devRant before sleeping.. Ooh I have an idea for wk51!1 -
Using cookies for verification and validation without encrypting the values which should have been handled in the backend without any use of cookies.
I wonder how vulnerable by website was... -
I wonder how successful I would be if I charged clients extra for "taming" the AI that tried to destroy their project.
-
Today was my last day at my old job. At my last monthly review, the CEO actually said to me how things would be much better if I were making enough sales happen on the websites to justify my (very low) annual salary. I checked the numbers on my way out the door. In the past 8 months I definitely cleared that threshold and then some. I wonder if he would've given me the next 4 months off with pay. LOL
-
I wonder sometimes whether people in Silicon Valley know how the rest of the world thinks about and acts on technology. I mean, I know they do to a degree, but is there anyone else besides me that thinks it’s kind of an “ivory tower” existence over there, with people chasing the latest shiny thing regardless of if people want or need it?20

Boss: I wonder how the whole plan failed
Developer *thinking*: If only I could have told this to you weeks ago. Well, I knew you wouldn't listen. Your actions were clear. Your loss. Or maybe it kinda became my plan to fail the plan and it work worked. Idk, lol. Maybe next time don't categorise what I say as negative by asking me to frame it positively. I won't give any feedback then, especially critical feedback to improve -
Back in college, we were taught to code in Java, nothing much more complicated than Hello worlds and non persistent CRUDs.
Somehow I eventually ended up discovering the auto completion function, which later I learned Emmet.
I had only found out how it worked with css classes, html elements and their IDs, but recently I started to wonder whether it could work also with the type attribute, so I went ahead and googled it.
I found this https://docs.emmet.io/cheat-sheet/
I was like:2 -
Over 67,000 people are affected by a major power outage in my city right now. I wonder how many servers are shutting down :(2
-
The older I get and the more perspective I have on my career, the more I cringe at the times I thought I was awesome but I really wasn’t, especially in the eyes of or in comparison to others I’ve worked with who were much better at this than I am. In that respect, I have very few stories that _aren’t_ embarrassing. I sometimes wonder how I managed to stay employed this long. And whether any stories here on DevRant are about me.
-
New wave of startups using blockchain tech in their pitch deck. I wonder how many of them are full of shit and its just a replicated db?5
-
I wonder how come we don't have a developers' "uniform" in the avatar builder's "shirt" list...
developer's uniform == hoodie14 -
Sometimes I wonder how large the gap between tech savvy n normal is.
All those stories about too much time on social media...
and also not knowing why you should get a tempered glass screen protector.... Even if you're screen is reinforced with Gorilla Glass...15 -
Just discovered I still have access to my old employers source code on VSTS, and can see from here that that there is a new team member!?
👿 I was made redundant "times are tough, there's not enough money, you were last in so first out" mother of fuck!
I wonder how many other places do this sort of thing.4 -
Share your desk!
This is 80% of time my desk, besides this kitchen (also living room) table.
I can sit here for eight hours straight without standing up. No, I don't have any back issues or smth.
I wonder how your workplace looks like47 -
So my company is using the cheapest software products out there; to save money of course. Naturally you pay what you get for, aka shitty products. I wonder how much money we waste by demotivated engineers using this Scheisse!4
-
In a conference video call of our tech team, someone remarked how he used to believe his laptop is so powerful until the day he installed Android Studio. To which I remarked, it takes somewhere around 10seconds on my machine to build this up. No wonder it became a butt of jokes, someone would say my laptop has a nitro-booster, or I build Hello World Programs. I literally had to show them screenshots and gradle build logs.
-
How did you guys learn coding? I wonder because I have taught everything I know myself and learn almost nothing about programming in school.21
-
I got a call from a recruiter yesterday. The employer wants to get me in for an interview. It's for a fairly big company and I'm beginning to feel really nervous. I hate the place I'm at and I need this job. Not just for money but also to retain my sanity.
The interview is with a development manager, I wonder what kind of questions he/she will ask. Ahhhh how do I prepare for the unknown? 😱10 -
Worst meeting:
Trying to decide which front end JavaScript framework to use.
Debated about Knockout, Angular, React, etc.
Decision: Too fat frameworks, DIY using jQuery. I wonder how big and unstable is our DIY framework. Is it even a framework? Just few organically written script files.6 -
Being an unsupervised junior developer, I wonder how shitty the code I write is, and how being unsupervised will affect my future in this career.5
-
This is incredibly interesting. How the frikkin-frik did the WiFi and Bluetooth die on my Raspberry Pi 3. Yes, I realize they work in tandem but how does something like this just die after just sitting around and performing light duty tasks for just a few months.
Reinstalled Rasbpain 2 times, nothing. USB WiFi dingle works great.
Not really a rant but I wonder how shit like this happens.
The Pi is in a case away from my cats, in a temperature controlled environment and adorned with the official power adapter.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmm. -
There should be a new boolean called "Not sure". I wonder how much it can change the logic of every language.15
-
Sometimes i wonder how many people from here work in the same company, talk every day, and don't have a clue about it...
I mean... last person here you told to suck di** here can be your boss actually...6 -
Gives an award winning VR idea to our 'Digital Manager'
Says it's too hard for us to do ( it wasn't ) , goes out and pitches it to another digital agency for 'Help', ( mainly coz of the freelance commission )
They go ahead with the idea and make their campaign with it.
we don't get anything. no credit, nothing.
I wonder how the hell someone become a manager with that much of stupidity.2 -
Every data communication example has Alice and Bob communicating with each other. I wonder after all these years how are they able to maintain a stable relationship.
I wish my girlfriend understood this. -
Yesterday I was in an interview and the chief of that company asked me how old I am and where I am from.
After that he said that "This is a multicultural company btw. We welcome everyone".
I wonder what he was thinking while saying that.5 -
Apparently, DRY is something my team has never heard of. I wonder how many places they need to repeat the same fuckass long declaration in before they would go "hold on..." - so far it's definitely not 4 files3
-
Friend from a company I did an integration delivery with sent me this lovely slack discouse. I had no idea their HR lady let her freak flag fly at work 😏
Wonder how many years she's been casually tossing that one around.3 -
I wonder how much more profitable is this year for Corona brewers :)
just sitting in a car next to a shop. I've never seen this many folks buying sixpacks of Corona.2 -
I wonder how much of the repeat behavior is trained by anxiety
Certainly a lack of resources contributes or getting stuck in getting the same resources over and over
Damn you people6 -
Poll: I see a lot of Windows users here, naturally as it's the dominant OS. I do wonder how many of you dev's that would be willing to accept lower compensation in exchange for instead working in Linux?9
-
So I didn't boot up my Windows 10 from more that a month now (dual boot).
I wonder how many eternities it will take to update when I shut it down to switch back to Linux. :/
#scary1 -
So uhm... All of a sudden this is what spotify recommends me.. Wonder how their algorithm has determined that's what I like 😅
-
Be careful helping family, if they don't understand how a website are run and work they should not have a web-shop.
Sister who "runs" the shop never updates my payment extension nor knows how to update a single page and she wonder why my extension have so many faults even after i have updated it 5 times since i installed it for her 4 months ago and showed her how to click the "update" button. She yells and screaming i destroying her business.
And i still need to be kind to my sister; FML -
Guess who's research just got more interesting 😂
I wonder how many nudes were investigated by the authors during this research -
I suddenly just want to retire.... Job just feels like never ending work.... Can't find time for a break... And well biggest fear in taking a vacation is the amount of work that piles up while I'm gone...
Maybe I suddenly just have burn out... But suddenly just going ah fck... What's the point of all this....
Sometimes wonder, if I didn't have parents around would I just quit and and just do whatever I want until I run out of money...
How many years that would take....10 -
I wonder how many electrons have dedicated part of their existence so I can watch cat videos on YouTube...1
-
A CS degree is worthless, all my knowledge of modern frameworks comes from YouTube videos, some codeacademy and a little bit of reading the documentation.
I wonder what it feels like to actually learn something completely. I understand something, then I forget it exits until I have to use it again and by then all I remember is how to google the right stuff. Thoughts?19 -
I did not fully understand dev ducks untill my project partner said I used him as a dev duck. I wonder how long it would take until he gets me one.
-
How much does one's strength in computer programming dictate their worth? I see such clever programs that do things far better than I could ever do, and then wonder how can I compete with that?3
-
Chaosesqueteam left.
Nanos left.
Ostream left.
Alexanderr left.
Damn, I wonder how long it would be before I disappear. And how I will be remembered by those who still remain.15 -
Question from my front end developer. "Where does the testimonial link go to?"
*facepalm* how dense do you have to be. Idk let's have it go to some section, on the same page even, that is called the testimonials section. A page you built.
Some days I wonder about people. -
Interns have degree's in 'Computer Science'.
I do not, Just a microsoft crash course on C# and SQL.
They are 3 - 4 years older than i am, yet they don't know how to use CSS.
I wonder what they learnt in that 4 years?17 -
Man .. sitting for hours ,staring at computer screen is damn tyring.
I'm having concerns about my health already ,I wonder how people in the industry manage it.
And yeah ,my back aches so bad😭😭13 -
Heh, I'm curious... Before you ++ someone, do you glance at how many ++s does the person already have? Does this influence you choice whether to ++ or not?
And how about comments? Does ++s count affect whether/how you coment on one's rant/comment?
I've caught myself clicking ++ only bcz I saw the uswr already had >10k. I wonder why is that :)
edit: I'm not proud of it6 -
I wonder how many developers each day rant here to get stickers and stress ball 😝.
Shameless acceptance: I am one of them.3 -
!rant
Landed my first time job as an consultant, while still studying. Hopefully this will go good, only have 4 months left of university.
However, I am surprised of how little coding it actually is... I've been spending my first month just learning a new system, so I can finally go out to a big customer and redo their production system (factories).
Meetings all day, a lot of talking... I kind of dislike it, but also like it. It is a special feeling. I wonder how it will feel in 6 months from now. -
Turns out my colleagues don't understand how useMemo works. They would try to memoize a value and then, in the dependency array, use an object that gets rebuilt on every rerender.
Good job, guys. I wonder how many silent infinite loops we have because of that shit.1 -
As my contractor job ends and my beginning the process of looking for new work the sudden feeling of imposter syndrome starts washing over me.
"I'm not qualified for any of these positions...", I say to myself, but then I think to myself, I wonder how devRanters deal with this.
So let me ask you, devRant, how have you dealt the *Experience Required* section of most jobs when job hunting?3 -
Sometimes I just wonder how.
I spent hours trying to find out why nothing was being rendered on screen. In the end I realized that my full-screen triangle consisted of 2 vertices. -
You know how we mock recruiters for not knowing anything...
I wonder if they have an app where they mock developers ... Probably not they'd need one of us to build it.1 -
I see people posting pictures of computers (ATMs, ad screens, digital signs, instruments, etc) failing and instead showing some Windows function, update, or the desktop. Makes me wonder: WHY would you use Windows this way? Think of how many product keys you'll have to buy and how many systems you'll need maintain to show a stupid sign? There's GOT to be a cheaper way of doing things like this.4
-
I'm an old school programmer, I remember coding in BASIC, ASP, and such languages, I made a streaming site in PHP, that I could use when going to parties and their music sucked, I phoned BBS computers, I document took forever to download.. Still I'm searching for a job in IT, I wonder how that will go :S
-
Build pipelines are awesome. What's not awesome is forgetting the 'pipeline' bit.
Sure, let's have each TeamCity job in the 'pipeline' build the deployable from different places! You must manually merge your code from dev to test to release.
What's that? The functionality working in dev isn't there in production? I wonder how that happened. -
non english speakers, tell me: how do you feel about the coding standard being english?
i know it is a given at this point, but i do wonder what it'd be like if it wasn't the case32 -
Go to google and type in "do a barrel roll" and see what happens... I wonder how many people now about this5

I wonder how fast the mail server pewdiepie uses will go down, if he turned on notifications for every like, comment etc.2

The Microchip LAN7850 is a USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Ethernet controller. I wonder how they manage a gigabit connection over USB 2.0 which maxes out at 480MBit. *Thinking Emoji*7

this is unsettling :( if they hit the button and start knocking out american infrastructure, even with "harmless" small-scale attacks or limited to certain sectors, i wonder how fast this is going to escalate... this mere unspoken threat is an aggressive move already https://theguardian.com/us-news/...7

How often does this happen to you?
Hmm I need to install the nodemon package, ok so I enter:
npm install -g nodemon
Result:
npm WARN
npm WARN
npm ERR
npm ERR
npm ERR....
I then wonder why would it not work??? Then after looking at the errors I realise ohh:
sudo npm install -g nodemon
This literally happens to me almost every single time I install a package.8 -
I still wonder which one is better to fully learn/understand. I know to code something in both, I know about the different way of how they handle memory and I know about some of their use-cases, but then again... this stupid question still pops out:
C or C++ and why?2 -
Seeing as quite a few people here use Macs, I wonder.. How many have tried Hackintosh? Kinda curious about projects like iAtkos but don't feel like donating nor replacing my gtx 1080 for the purpose..
Not that I would want to build a "cheapskate" Mac workstation but rather for educational purposes.. :)4 -
I'm at that point again where I question whether I want to still do computer stuff for work, but this time I kinda want to do part-time computer work and part-time physical work instead..
If my body is this bad when I'm not even 30, I wonder how I can do this sedentary job until retirement..3 -
I occasionally wonder if my supervisors think I'm an idiot because I'm constantly implementing stuff the wrong way and asking if I am even on the right track to a solution.
I guess that's what internships are for but I hate being dependent entirely on other developers. I may not know the best way to do stuff but I do know how to do stuff :(4 -
I know its a serious business - but there is a lot of talk re: testing (nuclear) at the moment.
It kinda puts things into perspective when we talk of programming tests. Makes me wonder how military engineers think of testing given that nuclear tests are ultimately illegal (I think) under international law. -
TL;DR: if you are using using react native, use uglify-es@3.2.2, any newer version might break your project
I wonder how many react native projects the boys at Mishoo fucked up, mine included.
I spent 5 work days to find an unrelated issue on RN's git which had the solution to my issue in the comments which was totally different from what was being presented in the issue.
Fucking aye.
I love javascript, but packaging really is its downfall.1 -
When you convince your client to purchase a commercial thread-dump analysis tool, and that pies of soft gives you flamegraphs like this one [excerpt].
And then your own TD analysis tool works significantly better than that.
[P.S. I wonder how many of you will spot what's wrong here :) ]5 -
The most frustrating part of the "your password must be min. 8 characters long and include a number and a special character" thing is that it does not improve security.
On the contrary.
I wonder how many people in the company have the name of the city they are located in, and the current year in their password...
#newyork18 #beijing20173 -
I hate the feeling when your supposedly crappy company starts feeling heavenly when people looking to join come from *even worse* companies. I mean, I start feeling "how in the actual hell are these companies even alive??!!"
It makes me wonder if I was just born in the wrong country or joined the wrong industry :/4 -
That moment when you have to file your hours worked, but the service we use to do so *exclusively* runs on *Internet Explorer* so you have to shut down your Linux distro with all the stuff you have running, boot up your Windows pro partition and log into your service, just to punch in a couple numbers.
Seriously. A website that runs *exclusively* on IE?? What the fuck.3 -
Have you ever seen a tree data structure implementation in any code base?
I wonder why recruiters are so desperately asking how to invert binary trees in my coding interviews🥴4 -
After 8years+ on stackover flow, I do have my "informed" barge(which I got the day I signed up) and a reputation of 10pts.
I wonder how these guys with countless points got them.5 -
Sometimes I wonder, when getting a notification for a month old rant, how can someone scroll down for that long?3

Avoid Lenovo laptops at all costs.
Our fleet of Lenovo laptops fault so often for such simple manufacturing/design defects that I have to wonder how Lenovo make any profit considering the amount of warranty claims we make.7 -
I just realised that I program the frameworks for backend developers, does that make me a backend-backend dev?
If so, I wonder how far can I take this in my career...1 -
I wonder...
On a global scale, how much of Google's storage space is being consumed by unread JIRA emails.3 -
How do i handle code review as a junior developer?
I understand its need and I don't want to skip it.
But I feel under confident after code review when my mistakes are pointed out. They always seem so trivial and wonder how did I even miss them. How should I handle such situations? And how do I improve from here?6 -
so I was working and suddenly I have to call peon for cleaning up the bug on screen...
yeah that's an actual bug 🐛 . wonder how to differentiate bugs... a bug.. actual bug.. -
i see all this little kids making this discoveries getting money and securing job positions in big companies and building this famous app like the clasic "flappy bird" and I wonder.. how the f//k are they doing all this.. then i discover their is udacity.com, apps from solo learn that teaches you everything! and all source of shit.. so my question is.. why TF am i paying for college?!?!?!!!10

So another story of our stupid trainee, this fucker talks to a customer while i was comming back from my lunch break. He aks me if i can tell him how to fix the problem of the customer. I walk over to his place and look at the error message. It says: "Tag: customer_country is missing. Needed by supplier". Sometimes i wonder why this dude is even here.

I wonder how legal coinhive usage is, since it's a great idea, but users for sure will piss their pants if they find out youre literally driveby mining bitcoins. Also how comparable is it to ads etc.2

I some how shocked my head/brain (electricity) ... Wonder if it will impact my code 😅 .... Do feel a bit rough I'm really having a fucked up week.
-
Job offer that just popped in my inbox: "backend developer with strong frontend skills" :/ I wonder this company
1) saves way too much money hiring the less people as possible.
- or -
2) only knows that developers develop, but don't have a clue about how that is internally organised in a well structured team.1 -
I wonder if all these here facemasks will inspire designers for a new nextgen below the fold 2.0 style era in design, I mean how relatable are the folds3
-
welp I went from "gosh rust makes programming so stupid because I don't have to keep anything in my head like in JavaScript, if it compiles it runs zzzz you can literally be wasted / in dementia and write working software now"
to "I wonder if I can inspect how long threads are waiting for mutex locks to squeeze the hell out of performance"

So as a student I often wonder how my future workplace will look like. So..
Show us your workspace! And not just the desk you sit by but the bigger picture. Personal office? Open landscape? Lonesome forgotten room in the basement of the building?
And which is the best? Close to the team to cooperate or fortress of solitude?2 -
I wonder why are there so little women in Engineering/IT?
The pay's good, the treatment(compared to how men are treated) is not bad compared to what I hear from friends in other spheres, and it's not like we're dumber than men.
So I wonder why aren't there more of us.24 -
sometimes i wonder how many programmers will lose their shit when drag and drop programming will become really popular.10

Learning Angular 2 through the tutorial in the official documentation. The white background of the website really fucked up my eyes. Solved it by writing custom css but I wonder how people use light color in their editors. It's really tiring.2

You know how each generation is taught more and more advanced stuff? My grandparents didn't have a clue about the the things my parents were learning at school. My parents could only catch up with my school course until like 7-8 class. Considering this trend we should have no idea about half the things our kids will be learning in higher classes.
However, since AI is taking its pace, schools are adapting and starting to use it for teaching, workplaces are leveraging it to rely on employees' brainpower and skill less and less,... I wonder if we won't see a downtrend. I wonder if we won't be the smartest generation who managed to ingest so much knowledge, and all the generations to come will only focus on mastering prompt engineering.
I wonder, how long will we survive with this dumbed down society... As the primal instinct is to overcome your opponent with greater force, possibly destroying it and everything around. And less educated tend to rely on primal instincts more.
I wonder if I'll live long enough to see Idiocracy [the movie] manifest in real life.
I know I refer to Idiocracy movie more often than anyone refers any other movie here. But it just hits too close to home too often. It might look like a silly something to spend time staring at, but man.. It's got one hell of a point4 -
Another day, another recruiter seeking "young", "talented", "ambitious", "driven" etc. etc. individuals approached me on LinkedIn for a phone meeting.
I wonder how fast he'll run when I mention the words "apprenticeship" or "entry level". -
I've been told a number of times that I spend too much time in front of my computer "playing games", where I am actually working hard on work projects and personal projects.
[I wonder how they figured that I am "playing games" when they haven't even seen what I am doing but anyways...]
Some people will just never understand how much dedication and effort my job as a web developer requires.8 -
Once upon a time I was thinking if I should do IT or another career. I started to wonder "Boy, I think I should learn how to program...". Then I watched Shia LaBeouf's JUST DO IT. Well, I didn't have much choice then besides doing IT, did I?
-
8 hours in the office yesterday without any tasks. 1 hour in today, still no tasks. I wonder how long this will go on for.
Plus side: so much time for reading about new [to me] tech4 -
According to devRant there are a lot of bad developers. How did they get hired and did they like and know what they were doing?(i also wonder how many devs think programming is shit just because they never properly align and arrange the code?)3
-
I’m a front-end developer. Whenever I need to introduce a new library or framework into the project, I always wonder if this tool is the best choice we have? How about its alternative? It always triggers my decidophobia.
I think one kind of data I can refer to is how many real repositories use it. So I crawl the JS projects on GitHub and record their dependencies usage and build a website called npmusage to check whether I should use it or not. More than 85K repositories have been fetched already.6 -
I sometimes wonder , how do my co workers have so little ownership on what they do. The business analyst does nothing , the management cant even optimize a filter on an excel sheet let along Jira but are somehow still employed. What psychological trick is this , meanwhile I slave away at refactoring code until it is perfect(at least to my knowledge) and then do the other peoples jobs also. How do i stop doing this, it seems i cant help myself.1
-
I wonder how some devs claim Visual Studio is good, i don't currently use it, maybe it got better, but just the idea of being a microsoft product makes me feel less of it, I'm just wishing for some clarification here14

I wonder what the uptake would be for so that isn't SO, if you behave like a knob you get booted.
I don't know how you would word that legally.2 -
Saw a movie related to Data Security and Data privacy. The movie ended 1 hour ago and i am now terrified how my data is going to end up somewhere where it can be misused .Frantically removed all app permissions from my mobile. Wonder how many days it will last. But now after hearing such gory details , i wonder how i can keep my interests safe in this world. I am now even afraid to give my laptop for changing its battery.. Thinking of wiping all possible compromisable data. But dont know how to.
How will technologies like blockchain affect this ? Will it make it worse or is it trying to make it better..?11 -
i am becoming our companies excel advanced expert. actually i am just better at internet searching than the rest of us. creating fully automated sheets makes me wonder what all of the office stuff learned during their appreticeship and how they can avoid using office properly while entering everything manually.
-
At the top of my current CV (the only one with current contact details on it) is the line "I am only looking for remote working roles" in bold. Why is it that over 90% of recruiters who contact me want to place me in a role where I would have to commute to an office, mostly over an hour's drive each way? Then they wonder how they get a bad reputation? FML!4
-
There is one thing that will haunt me forever.
In my old job I was asked to fix some PHP code written by a guy who recently left the company.
Not only passwords were hardcoded in the code, but also he named all the variables like $a, $b, $c. And I still wonder, how comes he was not fired but left on his own terms?6 -
Today I found a small toy project in JS I was working on 2 years ago for few weeks. CQRS, fully tested, with IA simulating human behaviour and a benchmarking system... I wonder how much free time I had back then1
-
I work as a data engineer in my company. My senior calls himself data scientist- he is 29 years old and recently did one MOOC on data science!
I wonder when my colleagues will find out about how much he really knows.
Till then I am cleaning and arranging his data, while he sits and earns a big fat package by citing one data scientist tag to his profile!! -_-1 -
I find it hilarious that sometimes when i create bug in our app nobody finds out. Even pretty significant bugs. Sometimes i wonder how is it possible. 😅4
-
I live in a world of wonder ... wonder how I did that? Wonder why it worked? Wonder if I can repeat that?
-
Thoughts about the strangler pattern?
I just came across it today and it sounds like a neat thing.
My main concern is with redundancy and the risk that old classes or methods would further be used and expanded. I've come across enough obsolete classes which have been further expanded because the dev ignored the flag and didn't want to search further or create new implementations. I wonder how this could be avoided.2 -
A visit to the planet earth.
Alien I: Hey look, look at these things. They work like sloths and sleep like koalas. Wonder how they have survived this long.
Alien II: It's a pity. I told High Commander this is totally a waste of time and resources.
Human: Well, we do have programmers too.
Alien I: WTF!
Alien II: Now, that planet is worth colonizing. Let's get to work then 👽1 -
Hate how here in France most of the research labs use SAS/STATA instead of R. I wonder if it's the same elsewhere3

Anyone who got the latest photoshop version running properly on arch Linux? If so, how? I wonder if it works well on wine?3

Do you ever have those moments where you just sit and wonder how you ever got the job you have in the first place?
Just spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out why I couldn't access my config to get the keys I needed. Turns out I was trying to access my "congif" and my brain couldn't see the difference.
Don't know if I'm dyslexic or stupid 😂 -
I wonder how much better/worse a news channel would do if they only reported good news locally and globally 24/72

This one time, at band camp. I seen this wait function named "wait_for_no_reason". Now I wonder how many actual wait functions are really necessary.2

Embarcadero tracked my progress on a potential commercial project. To my employer, I know for a fact my employee email is not connected to my personal PC. How did they get that email?
I used the unlicensed pro version of 10.3 because I thought the community version would have the necessary components needed open the source and not break the project. I planned to use the software over the holidays to dissect the code to see what changes I can bring to the table before asking them to buy me the legit license. Embarcadero caught me. Even know my project directories. How did they do it I wonder?4 -
WTF does a 'devops engineer' do all day? I have worked with them for over three years now, but I honestly wonder how they can do this full-time.12

I wonder how much traffic Vue cinemas' website gets from web developers searching for "Vue" on Google and clicking on the first link presented.1
-
I spent last week trying to figure out estimates about how much time we'll spend in this quarter's project - like, 3 days on the schema, 4 days on the API, 5 days on the GUI etc. Why does management think that each part of the project is separate? Oh I forgot, they're management. I wonder how much work I could've done if management wasn't so obsessed in knowing metadata about the project instead of doing the project itself 🤔2
-
Sometimes I wonder how big it companies with more then 500k net worth get away with bugs in their webapps.
In my company we also have bugs but I am the only dev and we won't hit the 100k Salesmark with our software.3 -
How you achieve your goals. I have started several projects throughout my life and, at a certain point, I change the direction. Now I wonder if it had been more consistent, perhaps it would have been more successful. What do you think about being consistent or changing direction when faced with difficult circumstances?2

"What the f, why isn't this Type or expression recognized?!" you think as you are writing your code.. and then you realize you're not inside a function.
I wonder how many times this has happened.2 -
The chats list of Microsoft Teams runs at like 5 FPS on my iPad Pro, I wonder how one of the world's biggest software houses can botch a chat so badly1

Some Devs at work can listen do podcasts without losing focus. I wonder how they can do that. Maybe it depends?
I love those with horror stories but I always lose track of the narrative.9 -
Looking at code from previous devs...which I now support...
Oh hey there is a function to retry connecting to the database if it fails to open...ok...
It doesn't return anything e.g. a boolean. Not a big deal I'll catch the exception...
It catches the exception and silently ignores it? WTF how do I know if it fails??
It keeps trying for 20 seconds...sounds reasonable...wonder how long it waits between failed attempts...0. No sleep, no back off, literally spams the open call as quick as it can throw the exception...
I'm glad I personally dont know them. They are fucking idiots. -
How do you use youtube in china? Asking for a muggle friend in a foreign exchange program. I sent a link to proxysite.com but the lack of response makes me wonder if that was a bad idea without further precaution. I've never configured a VPN before and Tor is a very bad idea here.4

Google Gemini API for Rest is horrible. I dont know if anyone else feels this way. If you want to know how API References and related documentation SHOULD NEVER BE written that way, go check that out.
No wonder Google's GeminiAI adoption is so much lower.1 -
I wonder how hard it would be to swap my laptop's 1366x768 LCD for a 1080 one. My model never came with a 1080 option so there's nothing from the manufacturer.6

I wonder how many people use Bitcoin as their main currency...
From the SO 2018 dev questionnaire!1 -
I wonder how well it would work if I bond/load balance my satellite connection with my fixed wireless connection.7

I do this often to unsuspecting colleagues. I take a screenshot of whatever work they were doing and open it in the photo viewer, fullscreen. They'd then come back and wonder for a while how their computer suddenly froze.

Just been reading a comparison between .net core 2 and .net 4.7 it appears .net core 2 is being highly optimised giving a huge increase in performance compared to .net 4.7
I can't help but wonder how it compares to .net core 1.1 -

Anyone else wonder how they got into the kind of the coding they're in?
Like, I wanted to make plugins for music software and DAWs and now I do front end web...
I don't even know what fucking language is used for something like that -
I remember that when I was in pre- school they actually taught us to count from 0. I wonder how many of us from there came to be programmers

I knew what to expect here in DevRant when Stackoverflow went down 😅😂
I wonder how would stackoverflow resolve the bug without searching on stackoverflow🤔2 -
I wonder how programmers who wrote Google (the search engine) solved errors in code without Google (again, the search engine)5

Wouldn’t it be interesting if they used captchas sometimes to train haars cascades
Millions of people identifying images sometimes not realizing they’re doing it for the first time
I wonder how far along they are in training 3D recognition in more advanced algorithms
Apparently haars cascades have been around since 200048 -
wk192: None. I was never asked to do a single coding challenge in any job interview. I had three successes and a bunch more interviews without programming anything in the interview or having ever shown any previous programming projects. I really wonder what criteria are important to companies hiring software developers if not how well they are at developing software.

What are your main goals or aims for this year?6 -
Sometimes I wonder how long it will take for society to stop starting every. single. conference call with "Hello? Helloooo? ... Can you hear me? I can year you!". Like it's a semaphore tower, or a shortwave radio communication to the dark side of the fucking moon.
I mean... what the ever-loving fuck. This technology has been around for 20 years now, how is it still so god damn broken, inconsistent and unreliable that we actually still all do this?
I'm sure after 20 years even Antonio Meucci and Alexander Graham Bell were no longer starting every damn phone call that way. GOD DAMNIT!5 -
How long will it take until Amazon finally does something against all these fucking review cheaters?
I looked for a spool of simple solder and...the first listed product had reviews for 3D printer filament and the second one's reviews were for a fucking drinking straw. You can still see the customer submitted pictures of their shitty coffees.
Amazon should just discard all reviews if the product name gets edited or something like that. Although at the same time I wonder how many people only look at the star rating if pulling this shit pays off for the seller. -
Wonder how do I organize an online meetup? Want to do an online meetup about improving programming skills tips and ideas. Google hangout may be an option. Anyone interested?3

When you are a major Ironman fan, partially learning how to program because you were inspired by the suit & JARVIS. Only to see that JARVIS was made in an year & begin to wonder "What have I been doing my entire life?!". Now I need to find a new goal to work towards. 😐 😶3

First two days in a new job.
It's pretty good. I love the fact that I don't have to work alone. I've got a temporary workstation since we are replacing laptops next month. It's shit and Unity is lagging, but I'll manage.
So yeah, life's good currently. I wonder how long will it take to become shitty again.5 -
Wonder how many companies out there uses Google Spreadsheet as a DB for customer projects.
Company I work in is one of them :(2 -
I wonder How people complete the whole computer science in 4 years. For me it feels about 4 decades. Any thoughts about it ?8

Hey,
So, a startup wants me to join them, it is a product based company. They want me to setup their SAAS product on the server which is purely built using open-source software with some pretty small tweaks in the code
They need it done in a few days
I just wonder that's how a big product based company is built
Please help me in making the decision, I am really so confused
Thanks9 -
Managed by pure chance to see (and screencap) my "score" of first 666, 777 and now 888. Was almost as fun as when my car was at 22 222. I wonder if we don't have to make computers more aware of how many weird little quirks we have for personal AI assistants to actually work well.1

I wonder how people created this code. There should be some trick?

Sometimes I wonder we make too much or at least the devs at corps.... (Not a bad thing...)
But compared to everyone else like chefs, teachers, builders, scientists, etc that actually need to revert physical labor... We just push buttons all day or half the day...
Just looking over this month's income... Basically only spent 10%...
An I really worth that much... To me the work I do isn't hard... Or don't see how it connected to the bottom line...11 -
Hi everyone, good to be back (my phone died, backup one wasn't able to run devRant). I wonder what I missed. Probably a lot considering how many amazing stories and discussions appear here daily.
But I digress. So I wanted to ask if anyone is planning on going to HackYeah hackathon in Krakow, Poland? Just curious if I should look out for any familiar orange stickers. -
Anyone an ai engineer here? I rarely find any ai engineers anywhere. Especially here too. Almost no one talks about ai engineering and code. Makes me wonder. How difficult it is to transition from SWE into data science field and work as ai dev?1

I guess the whole "can work from anywhere!" mantra doesn't apply to those looking at junior positions. I wonder how the industry will handle the lack of new hires coming through as more and more seniors demand WFH accommodations.3

Thanks monkey patching, now I remember why I hate Ruby so much.
Compare https://github.com/ruby/ruby/... with https://github.com/rightscale/...
I wonder how the fuck it even works. Also I'm amazed by countless hours of labour wasted digging through this pile of shit. (BTW thanks JetBrains for making it a bit less miserable)
Oh, and someone did monkeypatch Object#try! (which is also a monkeypatch by active_support) and then replaced all `#try` calls to `#try!`. WHY.JPG. Also how the fuck did it pass code review?! -
You know all those years ago
I saw some guys being handed COVID-19 masks in a lockdown facility

I sometimes wonder
How stupid people must have felt when they realized it wasn't real
Footage from Chile in 2021 shows their military wearing those retarded masks4 -
Remember when we were fucking around with web.xml and OpenSessionInViewFilter? I wonder how many people are still fighting all that stuff.

Im starting on computer science study this summer. Im reading up on mathematics and taking a higher math exam aswell. But ive come to wonder. How much math would you really be using as a computer scientist? And any area of math i should pay specific attention to?1
