I've been locked in a room with another dev for 2 days working like insane to remake a outdated crm system. Had to inform the department lead that the deadline isn't possible and we need another week. Got questioned about what we had been doing the past days, redesigned the database, migrated data, frontend etc. Boss goes "that's all you manager in 2 days?" We went in with 2 slides and had to design and plan everything from scratch.
I lost count of how many rounds and added complexity happened in 2 days when Customer came by. Now there is going to be a board meeting with PM as he complains that the project is taking too many resources and should be killed. I invited myself to that meeting to defend the work done. Hold my laptop and watch this.

The client gives us a project with A 3-month deadline. All good, at first.

3 days later they told us that they're cutting out the funding and they gave us two options: Either stop the project right away and get paid for the work so far, or somehow finish the project in 7 days and get paid for the 10 days worth of work.

My idiot boss chose the second.

Saturdays and Sundays were declared working days, everyone screaming at each other, devs running around scrambling code to make the webpage render and keep it responsive.

Forget unit or automation testing, we only did not null and undefined testing and submitted the project.

I have been working in digital agency for 7 years. When you heard something like this, there's a high chance that the deadline is a FAKE deadline. Very likely it will be delayed for another few days.

I had been working on a side project iOS app for years using Objective-C, then Swift came out and I started rewriting the whole thing in Swift and continued working on it for months... What sucks most about smartphones is how much everyone came to rely on them and expect you to have one which is turned on and working. Rent a bike? Need an app! Log in somewhere? Need 2FA. Freshman out of the university started working for me as a php developer. Software Engineer from a major Australian university. First project, a WordPress plugin... Two weeks down the track I had to explain to him the concept of sessions and multiple visitors. WTF are they thought at universities these days?

Spending 2 days trying to figure out why code signing wasn’t working when deployment is started from teamcity. Every time I tried manually it worked, but through teamcity it just kept telling me that no certificate could be found.

I finally twigged what the problem was, my code signing certificate is smart card based and you can’t access it if is requested from a RDP session. I had launched the teamcity build agent from an RDP session a few days back without thinking…

Rebooted and started the buildagent via VirtIO VNC and low and behold it started working again.

Never decided to change company so fast.

After a few days of debugging why sessions where getting lost in some versions of IE11 when all the other browsers where working just fine.

I was given a project to lead and develop with 2 other team members by the co-founder, I was told that I will need to deliver an initial demo within 30 days, 20 days in the project and I was told yesterday that they need a final release ready within the next 10 days !! Not just that but the co founder decided to assign one of my team members to another project!!!

I've worked today till 4am.

Does anyone else ever stop themselves from working on a side project on the weekends? Like I spend 5 days a week coding, and I try to take the weekends off just to balance my life, but I have this feeling in the back of my head that I should be working on something. Should I start smoking pot or something?

I totally forgot how bad working with JavaScript is. After like a year of working with properly typed TypeScript base where navigation and documentation works very well, now I am in a world where IDE (IntelliJ IDEA) does very little, essentially it's just now a stupid editor. After few days I miss TypeScript already.

Arduino project going off the budget and teacher asking for more functionality because "it can be made within 30 mins". We are working for 3 days and only things we are getting to know is new components that we need to add. That too in summer holidays... Fml

Somehow I find NOT working much more exhausting than working.

By "not working" I mean being blocked for days/weeks by procedural, technical or communication stuff (peeps I depend on are busy with other HI-prio tasks, waiting for approvals, etc.), where I have to keep on pinging them for updates, monitoring comms channels for news, finding smth to do to justify for the clients the 8 hours I bill them for.

When I was creating pixel art creator program and each pixel was an separated object, performance was horrible, and after 2 days of intensive thinking I figured it out. I made working canvas. Ram usage dropped by 1800% and speed increased by 40000%. My satisfaction was unimaginable.

Commit changes that is working perfectly.
Goes on vacation for 2 days.
Comes back to work and only half of my changes were merged to the test environment.
Also, the merge master decided to update my branch with the test branch.
Nice... now I have to redo most of my work.

Deleted a web page, which took me three days to write. Very pissed right now. Should have added to GitHub repo

I started working on a new file on my project. After I finished working on the project I started doing something which didnt worked out. So I deleted the local version of the repo since the repo was backed up on the server. But the file that I completed last night was not yet added to the repo.

I was in dependency hell for two days.
Im a junior working in a team creating an ember app. Suddenly a main component refuses to work since an addon threw "EmberObject undefined"... Nobody could reproduce it and we where out of ideas, so I tried fixing it for 2days (7h total). I finally got it working after updating yarn :D
It never felt so good working again :)

After working with Angular 1 for a while, I had my doubts about learning Angular 2
After playing with Angular 2 for the past couple of days, I think I much prefer it.

Best part of being a (freelance) dev : working from home, being able to see my newborn son slowly growing up. Not easy to run after clients days after days, but I don't regret the silly project managers, the dumbasses from the marketing, and, gosh, I don't miss the CTOs. :)

When working on feature the client requested for two straight days, one that required refactoring few others. Just to hear on the third day, that no, he won't be needing it after all.

It is simple git revert, but still. Two days of work just removed be single command because of incompetent client.

Had junior devs work on a new feature on a project I spent days fixing. They spent days on the new feature but built it off of the broken version of the project and never pulled from the repository. I was making software for a small handheld RFID scanner that would read specific fields from the tags. Somehow one of the fields always missed the first byte. Given that I was new to working with C I thought it was my lack of skills in the language. Spent days searching my methods, trying to find my mistake. After day two I found out I was given the wrong address to read from, and that I had just wasted two days.

lol started using unity a couple of days ago and with the tutorials and everything it was all going merry and well. I followed the roll a ball tutorial word by word and letter by letter. the game worked perfectly, well....
at least in unity.
Thing is, I build the game and boom.
I have a working game with no collision detection(basically not working). didn't touch unity for 4 days now. Fuck I hate when this happens.

Working for 6 days straight made me realize that i want to find "another opportunity"

Optimized some code yesterday to speed up writes and reads to the various channels of a pixel of an image.

One of the changes was to directly modify the original image, instead of copying the modded pixels to a new image.

Code stopped working.

After a day of debugging and going insane since the methods that had to be working were in fact working, I decided to check whether the image I was loading had an alpha channel, which my program wrote to and read from.

No alpha channel. Some days I feel like a complete fool.

Finally got powerline working in tmux on my iMac. I found some obscure issue where there's an async problem occasionally on mac where you have to reload the daemon and config manually for it to work. Two days of fighting with this but it finally worked! It's a Christmas miracle!

Who else finds its hard working from home/remotely? since I've been working remotely full time, I feel like I've been working harder and longer hours, I think its because I'm being evaluated solely by outcomes that I feel the need to put in more effort.
