Developer: We have a problem.
Manager: Remember, there are no such things as problems, only opportunities.
Developer: Well then, we have a DDoS opportunity.53 -
Dear Client.
Please don't whine why your site is down, you haven't paid us in like 3 months, and its on the contract that you signed, we only have limited patience.
sincerely yours,
developer7 -
My worst developer sin is probably me talking sh*t about programs I could never have done better myself.
"Omg, this is so inefficent!"
"Omg, the ui is so confusing!"
"What kind of idiot would do that?"
...I'm not the only one who does that, am I?10 -
You know you are a senior developer when you go to stackoverflow with only goal to answer questions.5
-
I believe this is why companies look for Junior Developers who actually know enough to be a mid or senior developer.
One day, a company that doesn't have the technical chops to know the difference between python and ruby hire a developer who is still in school. That developer doesn't know what he's worth, so the company gets him for pretty cheap. He does amazing things, takes last minute requests, learns some along the way, but eventually leaves because he just got contacted by a recruiter telling him how much he's really worth. He leaves, but the company needs to fill his spot. The company asks the former rockstar all the technologies he used to accomplish his job and throw that into a job description. The company could only really afford the junior so they keep all the stuff about being a junior, but because they need to maintain all the hodge podge stuff the previous developer put in, they need someone with experience enough to jump in.6 -
Apparently I, the Intern, am the only developer at this company with any experience with Version Control. My Boss just asked me for 'Documentation on how to create a Repository in GitHub'...
"There's a big button that says 'Create Repository'. CLICK IT."14 -
You start new job and take over huge codebase without tests and documentation.
It turns out programming language is custom language made by previous developer who was the only one maintaining project.
There is no source version control.
Language runs in vm developed in Fortran.
No one cared to this day cause everything was working.
Project is critical for multi billion dollar corporation that sells medical equipment that keep people alive.
You can’t test your code on real devices only on virtual ones that were made using same custom language but you can’t find source code for it.
Previous developer accidentally died before you were hired.
You signed contract with penalties that will ruin your life.
Your first task is to add “small” feature.
Good luck !12 -
I hate it when developers use the term "Full Stack" developer so liberally.
I interviewed someone so proud and only knew Wordpress and basic CSS.17 -
*only developer at firm and client comes in to discuss building a website on a 4k budget*
"Ok but eBay does it, cant you just do it like eBay?"
Oh eBay who has teams of developers....and a huge budget to afford these developers.....that eBay?4 -
A guy is sitting at a bar when the guy next to him lights up a cigarette. Horrified, the guy turns to him and says "hey! Don't you know the surgeon general warns that cigarettes can cause cancer!?" The guy next to him replies "I'm a software developer, I don't care about warnings. Only errors"2
-
I have this guy who screams and keeps on slamming the table in a meeting room (there is only the project developer inside), about how important to LTRIM RTRIM in sql, combining multiple insert into 1 stored procedure, making a big deals of small feature since we’re on a tight schedule, bla bla bla
Worse retard ever
I almost punched him12 -
Worst meeting?
A tech review where a senior developer presented my code and slightly modified ui as his own.
Only things he changed were the button colors and title of the app. When he switched to the code, my comments were still there.
It was the worst meeting because my boss said, in all seriousness, "It looks great!" 😦6 -
When you get creepy extra attention just because you're the only female developer... the struggle is real guys X(17
-
Apparently "Want to meet my rubber duck?" is an acceptable phrase only in the developer community.2

How to quit smoking as a developer, tutorial:
#1: You're only allowed to smoke when every unit test is passing.

The best part of being an university student?
- Microsoft Imagine
- Office 365 for free
- GitHub Student Developer Pack
- JetBrains Product Pack for Students
- Spotify for only €4.99/month (instead of €9.99)
- Discounts for tech products
And if you're lucky also Adobe CC and AutoCAD.
The worst part?
- The university14 -
You can hate me: as a 34 year old php developer, i've never used git in my workflow...
I plan to start today using it on one of my personal project (only because i have arrived at "backup-49.rar")(yes i develop on windows).
Finger crossed17 -
Not only the manager/developer ratio is insane, but they are complaining about their top dev is getting an extra special status .. I just wish he sees this and quit immediately.15
-
the worst part of being the only back end developer in a small digital agency? to me is accomplishing something cool as fuck and nobody can really appreciate it8
-
I swear down.
There is a developer out there. His one mission to break something in such a way that it only falls over at 1AM.
I hate that guy.4 -
Someone just gave this cloths to my son, and I think only me as developer that very happy about it.
🐘🐘🐘11 -
Lol, only two years ago I saw a new TV show in which a developer is waiting for his code to compile. Apparently not everyone is ahead of the curve!4
-
I love companies that only use titles like 'Analyst'. Then, they can make you work as a developer, business analyst, tester, help desk, or project manager and there's no way you can ask for a raise or promotion6
-
Just met my old friend a few minutes ago and he asked me, "what work you do?"
Me > Well you already know, I'm a developer.
He > Oh, so you make mobile apps and websites?
Me > Well kinda yea but I work on websites mostly, will build my mobile app later someday.
He > Yea, you have something called web2,web3 and RSS FEED and you know anyone can do coding and developer stuff, only hard thing is to get a good idea.
(that was exactly his sentence)
Me > ......................... (in my head)5 -
This is the only place where a developer can complain and find who understands him and give him advices.
Thanks ranters1 -
With only a developer team of two people dev rant sees more updates in a week, than Facebook's Windows apps see in a month.11
-
Job listing I just saw:
Our lead and only developer just retired after 15 years of maintaining the codebase. We need someone who is capable of working with large amounts of undocumented and untested code.
PS: This was a company that makes medical software.8 -
* Intern comes back to the same company after a year *
[Senior developer] : What did you learn last year at school?
[Intern] : I can develop any Android app now
* Opens his phone and clicks on an app *
* Only one page with text : "Hello World" *
[Senior developer] * drops on the floor in an attempt to hide his laughter *2 -
2days into changes in our team, so now I'm the only developer
client: so can you give me contact of another person while you're on vacation?
me: well, unfortunately I'm the only developer...
client: (ರ_ರ)
me: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯3 -
I'm a freelance web developer and I'm only 16 years old, coding since 5 years! Go for your goals, you can do it!5
-
You are a consultant and wrote some easy scripts by copying code snippets together?
Good for you!
It makes your job easier?
Good for you!
You didn't care too much about UI because you only needed the job to be done?
That's fine!
BUT DON'T YOU DARE SELL THIS SHIT TO A CUSTOMER AND CALL YOURSELF A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER!
YOU ARE NO DEVELOPER!
YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HOW TO BUILD A RELIABLE SOFTWARE.
no one needs a solid database structure?
Object oriented programming is "just another hype"?
No one cares for the coding?
FUCK YOU, AND YOUR ATTITUDE!7 -
Shame on every developer who ever wrote a blog post about a complex topic that included only trivial examples!7
-
When you are the only developer on the job, you turn into a God and a peasant in the same sentence.3
-
Being a developer has it's advantages: I wanted to apply for a internet subscription for my home but my home adress wasn't recognized by the provider. So i wanted to send a complain form but this was only possible by providing it with a client number, which I obviously didn't have.
So this was my solution 🎉9 -
*Working on android app life is good, but iMac suddenly became slow*
Me: Wonder what I have open
*After checking and found only Android studio and FF Developer edition*
*Checks RAM: 654MB remaining*
*Closes Android Studio*
RAM: 4.83GB remaining

Being a backed developer is like being a spy. You are only known by your failures. You will never get to know a good backed developer or a good spy.2
-
Heard my team leader is leaving, this leaves me as the only developer in the company, we went from 4 all the way down to 1... #thiscompanyisamess4
-
"Make us a one-page website for our new company!"
I build the site, to their exact specifications and show it to them
"There's only one page"
"You only asked for one page."
"No, we didn't"
I show them the email they sent me, asking for a one-page site
"Wow, you suck, we are finding another developer!"5 -
Although web developers are widely feared, only a few species are dangerous to people. Web developers will only bite humans in self-defense, and few web developers produce worse effects than a mosquito bite or bee-sting. Most of those with medically serious bites, such as JavaScript web developers and PHP web developers, would rather flee and bite only when trapped, although this can easily arise by accident. There were about 100 reliably reported deaths from web developer bites in the 20th century.2
-
Why is it angry? Or can you only use it when you're angry? Was the developer very angry while developing it? It's a mystery8
-
Well I’ve had my LinkedIn status to open for a little while now. Time to check what exciting offers (me, an iOS developer / team lead) has received.
- Senior python engineer with multiple years machine learning experience.
- a job 3000 miles outside the only city I’ve marked myself as interested in.
- Architect for a .NET team.
- Senior UX Researcher.
- The same job for a bank 6 times. But each time they won’t initially give the name of the company. Only “my fav client to work with” until I respond.
... not much hope in this process9 -
Dear Product owners / Company Owners / Whoever requesting a feature:
Devs like to know they are adding value to whatever product they are working on. Every time you request a stupid no value added request, you kick the dev's soul.
After several hits the developer will stop caring about the software and eventually will get the job done, but oh boy, the amount of tech debt/trash code the dev is gonna leave behind will be horrendous.
Then the next developer, not only takes the hit from another stupid request, he/she will see the crappy code the past sad developer left and will take a double hit. Of course all of them start proactive and try to fix previous blood trails but sadness will catch them eventually.
If you want you're apps/products/reports to be good in a long run don't make stupid requests.
BAs, Stop being Expensive Email Forwarders and challenge a request, understand the process and then hand it to the developer.
Us developers are sensible cute ponies. Treat us well or expect poor quality projects8 -
The joys of being the sole developer and sysadmin of a service with hundreds of thousands of users.
Just spent a couple hours with my family. In that time half the infrastructure died and the service became unstable.
Best of all is that I seem to be the only one getting this so called "java.net.UnknownHostException: System error" exception.2 -
naked developer day:
Today I'll work from home, sitting completely naked in front of my mac. Only keyboard, mac and me.
It's a huge saving in clothes and energy to clean them23 -
Is it only me or does anyone else think that they are a bad developer? Everytime im on devrant i think that i dont know shit.. :(7
-
when you're the only developer at a firm and the client wants something bc "it's super simple, that's how ebay does it, just copy them"1
-
Realising if you'd only studied a degree in computing, you would be useless in the real world as a developer6
-
"The user is only going to see the loading screen for a second anyway".
Tell me more about poor internet connections, Mr. CBD-residing, office-wifi developer. I'm all ears.7 -
Make yourself known as a "wix developer".
*Nevermind this will propably get you a job only in a bad company*5 -
So my boss thinks that it takes maximum of two days to create a website in WordPress.
I agree with that, but what about the million requirements of the client and you about the theme? and custom dashboards?
PS: Only one developer will work on one website!6 -
I once encountered a developer who said "make your code obscure and only you can understand, so that they(company) will never let you go" bcoz you the only one can solve it. WhatTheFuck!?9
-
"In fact, 97% of the code in a modern web application comes from npm. An individual developer is responsible only for the final 3% that makes their application unique and useful."
😄 3%? haha

I request the VPN credential to access to an italian big company network.
The ask me the email to send the new credentials.
I reply sviluppo@mycompany.it
They say it's not good, it's not associated only to me.
I said I'm the only developer (sviluppo) in my company.
They reply the is more secure my private gmail account.
They sent the credentials to my gmail account.3 -
Boss left. Now I'm the only c# developer left to maintain 137 projects at this company. I woke up to a flood of emails with 3 requests and 2 applications breaking because he was a shitty programmer and didn't understand layering and design patterns and unit testing. Fucking dear God help.10
-
I wanted to be a dev when the only on campus job that paid more than minimum wage was titled "Web Developer". It paid 13 bucks / hour. AWYEAH.
-
When you are the only developer in your team and everybody thinks you are a master of all platform :/1
-
Dev blog writer: "I'm a polygot developer, check out my Github..."
Checks Github, only finds JS and 1 HTML repos...
Thanks for making me feel better about my employment chances mate!2 -
I'm kind of disgruntled that I've only worked with one ninja level developer in my career (small market) and he was an insane dick. Despite my hatred, I treated him kindly and respected him. I wanted to learn from him but he didn't want to teach.
Ninja devs, don't be that guy.6 -
>be me
>join new firm
>only developer
>Task : Migrate our PHP based website to reactjs
>okay not bad, I can do this
>*Completes in 2 days*
>get inputs from boss and he gives
>go back again to inform we're now SASS integrated
>asks for new wireframes
>wtf lol.exe
>wants new design for the same website like of the parent company which is WordPress template
>*Internally : I'm a developer, I don't do wireframes*
>okay no problem
Seriously, if you wanted a new design in the first place why didn't you said so? -
My tech lead keeps assigning me incident tickets in the company's worst legacy app because I solved some bug in it a while ago. I'm the only one who gets assigned these.
If this keeps going, I know for sure that I will be regarded as the designated developer for this application. Then I will be truly fucked.5 -
So being a sole developer at the company, full stack, you know, basically 24/7 job because you are the only one that knows what's going on.
I love my job but now that I'm not working with a team I miss code reviews and bouncing ideas off.
So, is there like a community or something where a sole developer can get this? Maybe more privately than SO or reddit or whatever5 -
I been seeing spam on devrant lately. It is usually a new account which only have 1 rant (a spam)
Maybe devrant should include some kind of "Are you a developer captcha" which make you fix a bug before creating an account.17 -
When you are a mobile developer and your company has only 3 android devices shared between Mobile, Testing and Design teams :|
And all teams fight for the device time
What the fuckin fuck..3 -
My company con not find any other developer than me.
I could not understand.
We use only up to date libraries in our projects.
Please note the comment private properties...12 -
Am I the only backend developer around here who doesn't enjoy building UIs and tries to get it done ASAP just to go back to backend code?
my App's UI looks ugly as shit because of this.9 -
How to piss off a developer?
1) Make your SDK bundled with an IDE and provide no way to update only the SDK, forcing them to loose all of their IDE settings and customizations.
2) Make GNU tools bundled in the SDK that are compiled 10 years ago and haven't been updated.
3) Provide a Linux version of the SDK, but only save all files in Windows-style line endings.
4) Provide SDKs that introduce bugs and break builds.
5) ???
6) Profit!6 -
Current list of developer skills:
* Can find 3rd or 4th best solution to most problems
* Easily ready to accept blame for anything to save time since it's likely my fault anyway
* Caffeine addiction only enough to make you worry, not intervene
* Can explain how JavaScript DOESN'T work, thus getting us both closer to understanding how it does
* Only choke on parts of presentations that aren't critically important, like minor details and Q&A
* Good at smack talking other languages I also don't know how to use
* can make a mean gumbo3 -
Developer who was working on a project for 7 weeks was fired and to spite the company he deletes all his source code for the project. As the only other dev, I was placed with the wonderful task to complete an 8 week program in 8 days.8

When you're a hardcore web developer, the only 'action' you .get() is when you're writing a login form scraper for your three-legged oauth flow in Python7
-
7 page resume
13 jobs, some only lasting 3 months
TONS of grammatical and spelling errors.
Descriptions of each job has several lines just saying he "created functions; interfaces; abstract classes; classes".... For a jr/senior level developer job? Why are we interviewing him?8 -
Even though I bragging about how good my few projects are to the people I talk to them about, I undervalue my worth as a developer.
Even though I am desperate for money, I've only recently started trying to get work in the dev community (with little success) because I actually feel that I'm not a good enough developer..17 -
Only developer for my company. Unbelievable deadlines. Boss always coaches me to delegate work. To who?!8
-
I have a new Job as a full stack developer, so Im here to tell my story, you see,I told my boss today that im quitting,
Which he replies by telling me to wait, to see if he can get the CTO to pay me more,
now the CTO sais, "HE IS ONLY A BACK END DEVELOPER, HE'S NOT THAT IMPORTANT, I THING WE ARE PAYING HIM MORE THAN ENOUGH" So I said fuck him and left :D4 -
Newton's 4th law :
Bugs can neither be created nor be removed from software by a developer. It can only be converted from one form to another. The total number of bugs in the software always remains constant.5 -
Every day when I am going to and from work I listen to a podcast called Developer Tea. I can really recommend it, it talks about everything that is devrelated. Not only about technical stuff but also about how you should be as a person as a developer. I shared mine so now I am curious to hear: what is the best podcast/podcasts you listen to?15
-
I am now the only experienced developer and the person responsible for the delivery of a project AFTER WE ARE ONE MONTH PAST THE DEADLINE! All because user wants to replace the old system with new system with all EXACT SAME FUCKING FEATURES!

For the past 45 days I've been the sole developer of a standalone Java application and doing some ops only, now I'm getting back to the spaghetti php bullshit they call code and for the past 5 minutes I could fell the depression striking back...

Below is conversion in our organization between a developer and a manager....
Dev: "I don't know how Mac book pro touchscreen is implemented. Totally, awesome creation!!"
Manager: "It's quite simple!!! As long as you have huge RAM available, you can create anything. It's just man-made"
Ho**Sh*t...he sounds like only RAM is enough.... F*** manager....7 -
Started a new job a month ago. I’m the only real frontend developer here. I come from a company with 10+. Now i’m working with a old ux guy. Mr. UX teached me the usage of a styleguide. This styleguide is a fucking mess. The legacy code is a fucking mess. They way of working, up for improvement.
I have a dream...4 -
An hour of developer time: $50
An HDMI to USB-C dongle: $30
Only being issuing each developer 1 dongle and not letting them have an extra under any conditions because that would be "wasteful": The Process
There are some things in life that don't make you homicidal for everything else there's management.3 -

Wish me luck! Just landed a new exciting job as full stack developer! Finally I get to do what I truly want!!!
I can't express how happy I am right now! Finally done with being a supporter!! (was originally hired to only manage Windows servers and not doing external customer support)5 -
I'm the only developer here. I'm also pretty bad.
I can't handle all this responsibility, every single fuck up will be my fault.10 -
I'll just leave this here. RIP Firebug.
Not only you made me the front end developer I'm today, you also made me a man.3 -
My first rant :)
It's only 2 months I work as a developer, and i get so frustrated when at meetings my boss doesn't consider me or doesn't ask me about my work, and instead he asks others about things I am doing..2 -
The backend people at my old company had 4 files which they all committed code to (they were about 10 people). The only reason they didn't use a single file, according to the lead developer, was that Eclipse could only handle 12k lines per file (or something like that).3
-
When company assigned me, an internship student, as only developer for a project that needs data mining on connected hives, back-end alert management, front-end difficult animation management with Microsoft technologies when I was learning C#1

I have been working on an app for the startup i co-founded as only developer fulltime for the last 8 months...
I have yet to buy my first bread from the money i dont earn..

Fun fact:
The SENIOR backend developer at the company I used to (as of today) work has a degree in economics and business and his only experience has been a trainee position.
No more startups please.... Seriously.... Just.... Don't... No... 😰😰😰😵😵5 -
Rant! I'm the only developer working in the company and everybody always comes to me and say, oh you are the IT guy can you fix my iPad?
F**$ no I can't... Stupid iPads..2 -
I am the only developer for a nationwide company. Everyone else in this company has no idea about IT, from the owner down.
I have about a year of actual IT experience, so God knows how I got this role.
Fellow developers, especially .NET developers, how do you estimate the time required to complete tasks set by none technical people?9 -
I long for the day I get a job with an actual developer team, where I can do things like getting my code reviewed or pair programming or being forced to write better tests.
Working as the only developer (or a team of 2) sucks :(4 -
I'm starting to have suicidal thoughts though the Javascript and the whole frontend.
Is anyone looking for a Ruby Developer with 2 years of experience with Ruby, 2 years with pure SQL databases and half year with React?
I don't want to see only Javascript for 8 hours per day for the rest of my life.9 -
Short story of a developer
0) Don't know how to do something
1) Search for hours on internet
2) Find only crappy codes
3) Try a crappy code
4) Realize that it works only for who created the code (What the hell...)
5) Cry
6) Ask on forums
7) Get downvote without any reason
8) Receive useless answer
9) Delete project4 -
Am I the only one who treats projects, products and code as people, and talk to them e.g. This is what I said recently to my executable "are you fucking kidding me? " and my fellow developer got confused whom I am talking to4
-
Fuck, I only need to hire ONE fullstack developer who fucking knows what he's talking about and not trying to weasel their way into this job. I tell them that there are no annoying managers, no KPI, no bullshit, I thought this is kinda valuable, but no
How hard can it be?25 -
Do you think refactoring code adds value?
Pick one:
1. Hard No (Only refactor when there is a dollar value associated with it, i.e new feature depends on it).
2. Somewhat Yes (Futureproof your code, anticipate easiness to build feature requested in future).
3. Yes (Developer happiness, retention and for point 2)27 -
Hold on, people actually finish side projects? Personal side projects? Am I the only developer who procrastinated side projects to the point that I forget about them?3

If you only pay your junior web developer $11/hour to handle projects by themselves, what kind of quality of work do you expect to have?15

When ur the only one who can do a job and u feel sick but force urself to go so the workload doesnt double tomorrow.2

Backend API developer that doesn't admit his mistakes. Damn, he's annoying the whole team.
Basically crashed the whole app by messing up the settings for the CORS policy, and still doesn't admit it. When he fixed it, the only reply we get was "I erased the thing and put it back and it works".
WOW!5 -
What's the point of testing if the tester just tests the scenarios which developer gives. Isn't it obvious that only those scenarios will work.2
-
Being the only dev in charge of the project, makes you the one to be blamed for.
The God saviour, shiny armoured back end developer that joined the "team" (only me) to help into this new project Just Said in a meeting:
- "I wont code anything for this new project, I can't get the point of It"
So every meeting was
- "why feature X is not ready?"
- "I'm waiting the endpoint for It"
- "well, then mock It"
Now I fucking give up.
One month mocking things and "presenting" features that don't even exist. -
Just started my first "management" role after 12 years as a developer, first thing I learnt is its just like my last role only I don't have to do any of the hard work.
Worried they'll figure out I'm doing almost nothing soon, any tips? Should I just start scheduling meetings to discuss meetings?4 -
I got an email about the job opening of a "HTML Developer" in a leading telecom company in our country.
A HTML Developer? Really ? Are you expecting a html only website in this day an age? How can you be a "leading company" when you did not even know the correct term for a front end web development job post3 -
I was on a verge of losing my job and then I used GSAP framework and saved my job.
Struggles of being the only front end developer in a company is painful.2 -
You are a developer and you will only log time you're actually working. This means you will not be logging time spent in meetings, chasing for specs, requirement clarifications and similar. You must log 8 hours each day.
^^-- wtf?!? Is anyone else working in similar conditions?12 -
The mysterious life of developers
CLICHE DEVELOPER - which can be spotted by the conference t-shirt and the pale skin. Main source nutrition black carbonated liquid.
HIPSTER DEVELOPER - this species only drinks warm liquids based on expensive spices and beans, and his only tool is a so called Macintosh.
for many individuals in the herd it's considered prestigious to not utilize the mouse at all.
The herd works towards a common goal, a goal set by the project owner. When the project owner arrives the developers often hide digital image of cats from their screens........

Developer: we have a problem
Manager: remember, there are no such things as problems, only opportunities.
Developer: Well then, we have opportunity to recreate the entire project we're working on 2 years2 -
I'm so sick of being the only developer to have the courage to stand up, shout, argue and put a stop to incredibly poor, short-sighted and uninformed, company-damaging decisions made by managment.4

It seems almost everyone here is a web or mobile developer of some sort. Am I the only non-student, desktop developer? I occasionally do some backend web stuff, but I just do a lot of desktop stuff (mostly C++)5

That moment when you are a junior frontend developer, you realize you are in probational period + you got a new huge project with a technology you never worked properly before and the only person, who can give you some addvices is going to leave the company in a few weeks... + you will be the only frontend dev. on this project... When a gamer is also a developer:
Idiot: What kind of game is that? I only has a crap load of words!
Me: Yeah, it's called Android Studio2 -
Learned HTML with a 50ct book from a 1 €-shop. Got interested in forums and learned PHP by analyzing phpBB and Itschi (you probably don't know the latter). Learned Java through school though it was only the basics. Now I'm a full stack developer at a Norwegian company. Fully self-taught.1

Going over his first iteration of his assigned project...
Me: "This looks awfully familiar..."
"Senior Developer": "Well, I took some inspiration from your apps"
Me: "No, you copied and pasted all of it, down to my breadcrumbs..."
Senior Developer: "No, I only made it LOOK like yours, I didn't copy any of your code..."
Really?! REALLY?!7 -
Currently doing my final handover, the "senior" developer is trying hardly to find things for me to change not in the code, no, in the documentation. Bitch, this is the ~most~ only documented project in the whole company!
#5 days left.3 -
When you post an opening for a junior developer, and the only resume you get is a "Senior Developer with Team Lead Experience" you interview them anyway...
When that interview reveals their resume is fiction, and they're very junior.1 -
I have a friend, he's name is Joe, he's a Tarantula and he's the only web developer I've seen that loves bugs.3

Manager who doesn't code makes all the technical decisions and doesn't listen to us, lowly developers. He only listened to the developer who has been the longest time in the company and had terrible ideas as well.1

Back on dev rant, been a while. Been two Jobs later...
Was extremely underpaid at the previous job.
Started a new venture two weeks ago. Long story short this company outsources their developers to other companies. The job I applied for is 'Junior Developer'. JUNIOR DEVELOPER!!!
Yet I'm being outsourced as an 'Intermediate Developer'.
Honestly I like the challenge, but businesses need to treat their employee's properly and not manipulate their young developers so they can get more money for cheap.
Really now, I've been dealing with this everywhere I go and it pisses me off.
On top of that I have no Senior Developer. I am the only developer. The other six, including my boss, are DBA's and don't know C#1 -
Consulting/contracting for a company, and their lead developer/ops guy quits without warning. This leaves me as the only one with the somewhat technical know how but without access to do anything to move any changes to production....4
-
Has anyone ever actually tried moving to a nice tropical place while making a good living working only 50% part time as a remote developer? It seems like it’s always a friend of a friend of a friend.5
-
Being the only one in my friend group who is a developer, I keep getting asked ridiculous things like "can you install XYZ for me?" "can you get rid of this virus for me?" "Can you fix my microwave?" I wish I was kidding.2
-
Shouldn't be there a position called "Document Developer"! who's job is writing documents throughout the whole sdlc processes? Also expanding comments written by the coders. The only skill needed is English MVC framework!2
-
> TheSmartGuy: listen, IHateForALiving, I know you're a frontend developer, but here in the backend...
Just so we're clear: I'm NOT a frontend developer.
I'm a full stack developer.
I just so happen to always end up working on the frontend because you bunch of handless monkeys wouldn't be able to write a webpack config file if your life depended on it.
It's not you taking care of my inability to work on the backend, it's me being relegated to using only half of my skills because you ugly things refuse to evolve. I could take your job in a breath, I wouldn't trust you with writing a css selector.7 -
Getting a developer job without experience. Spent 2 yrs in a support project. Only thing I was able to learn was linux.1
-
Developer: We have a problem.
Manager: Remember, there are no such things as problems, only opportunities.
Developer: Well then, we have a DDoS opportunity.3 -
Am I the only backend Web developer with minimal knowledge of frontend? How can frontend be so hard.5
-
If somebody underestimates your job as being a developer ask them if it would be easy for them to solve complex mathematical problems all day. Because that's basically the same mental strain as being a developer.
And I rambled on:
No one can understand other people's lives, we only make presumptions based on what we went through ourselves. If we dislike / don't understand somebody we should blame it on our own lack of experience instead of the person. Because most of the disturbances in society is caused by people not wanting to understand each other after all.3 -
Have been working as a freelancer since i was 14 with a lot of projects parallel to school. Just graduated high school and got my first job as a software developer only by using reference to freelance projects.
I'm so excited!6 -
I can't be the only one who didn't know that Linux has a specific command to delete a directory
I've used Linux all my developer career and I never knew the command 'rmdir' existed. I always just used 'rm -rf'5 -
What the hecking heck. My Javascript doesn't work in Edge EXCEPT for when I open - only open - the developer console, then everything works fine. And it is hard to debug stuff without developer tools, especially since Edge doesn't note console.info when the developer console is closed.
(No, I'm not even using external scripts)12 -
Aaagh...... 2022 this year has been shity for real..
So its now 1 year and I've been a fullstack developer for this mid tech company as the only developer
so I've been trying to get these guys to hire a second developer. and try to also upgrade equipment and these guys didnt even bother to attend to my requests and during my evaluation meeting on friday these guys where down my neck about why projects are taking time to complete i MEAN WTF!!!!! told them its bcoz Im a 1 man army and most of the times Im chocked with the "any other duty" thing and how tha fuck do they expect them projects to be done on time
I'm the only developer some times i get sick 2weeks and where i left off is were i continue from and thats 2 weeks work of progress down the drain
I'm so fucking pieced off ryt now I feel like droping this shity job and find a much better organization
they want me to build them a developer department and they dont even equip me with the necessary tools to do so WTF do they think they are doing they think they know better than me?
so let them build their fucking dev department without me
this has been a fucking stressful experiance
wrote them a later to hire a second developer
I dont fucking care how they are going to do it
contracting or an internal dev if they dont in the next 3 months I fucking leaving this shit7 -
Looking through a former developer's drive for their projects folder is kind of like a treasure hunt, only you don't get something good at the end of it usually.
Especially when there's a good reason they're a "former" developer.
Non-standard locations.
Behold, latest deployed code changes are uncommitted.
Alcohol, please save me.2 -
Imagine a world that only consists of humans with a developer mindset . Would it be a better or worse world?
Aside from all the food and production problems, let's say we automated it all.5 -
I first realised I wanted to be a developer, when my older brother told me about The Net (movie) with Sandra Bullock. He told me about the pi sign in the bottom right corner, and all I wanted to do was to make websites with secret sections that only I knew about.
-
On today's episode an first ever
"In Your Opinion "
To be a "good " developer, do you have to code (not only for work) but as a hobby as well?6 -
While waiting for the subway to go to work i was checking my emails on my phone, an old man approched "u young people are only using those phones for facebook and useless stuff , find yourself a job and blablabla.. " how can i tell him i'm a mobile developer ... :/2
-
Seriously,
when a company asks to recruit a developer, but only female developer for a regular post.
What IS exactly the work to do? 🤔11 -
Would I be going too far out of my role as a developer if I write a coding standards/development practices/procedures guideline for the whole team dictating a set of rules everyone needs to follow? Basically telling people how they should be doing everything.
I'm senior developer but not the only one and also the youngest. No one has to follow it but I would plan to present it to my boss and his boss. I feel like I would come across (if not already) like "I'm better/more experienced than all of you, so you should do what I say because the way things are now isn't working and will only get worse".5 -
Developers should learn and teach others constantly to grow not only as a developer but as a person. You never know who will provides you with the next big opportunity.
-
Guys, I'm wondering what do you put in your CVs.
Do you only mention what you master?
Do you mention things you only worked with once?
Do you mention things you only have theoretical knowledge about?
Do you mention mainstream skills ( HTML/CSS) that almost developer knows?
Please, I'm struggling.5 -
Shadow DOMs – the WORST invention in web standard history.
As a user script and user style developer, the shadow DOM has been a massive headache. Shitow DOMs block custom CSS, blocks parts of the page from being saved, and blocks user scripts and browser extensions. Shitow DOMs are an utter nightmare, especially closed ones.
And now, Google Gerrit's entire user interface is shadowdoomed. The only way to save pages locally is to scrape the JSON from the developer tools, but that is not possible on mobile.18 -
Hi developers.... so i just feel like posting this post
I'm a self-taught developer its been 6 years now and i managed to get myself a job this year at a tech startup and they actually developed this developer department just for me..... with the promise that if i manage to get this department up and running I'll get a higher position as the company grows
So it's been 4 months now and i think i'm doing exceptionally well as a developer since I'm the only developer in that organization..... and some how I feel like if i use my problem solving skills to work on other real world problems not just code and designing systems..... like bringing solutions to real none code related problems i could actually achieve more and make a big difference
but I'm actually learning a lot and hope i'll become more and do more within this organization and grab that top position role3 -
You know you're a developer when the only secret society you want to join are those who don't get auto down-voted for a Stack Overflow question.
-
After meddling around with all kinds of goopy front end frameworks I decided to take a look at TypeScript (in Angular 2).
I must say, as a Java developer: Why have I only found this now??
Granted, I have only played around with it for one day.1 -
first was with people who wanted to host a hackathon. no one even coded a simple hello world application. not even tried to google it with the free internet access available. second time was only one other developer and myself with a bunch of people wanting to claim their fame. pitching alot of ideas but none wanted to do the hard graft.
-
I'm now not only a full stack developer in the charge of my own Linux servers, Devops work, programming, and the MySQL DBA, but have been asked to take on the "small" responsibilities of our only Linux administrator (retiring). No mention of title change (which is lesser than all my work), nor salary increase. A person can only do so much. Don't think I'm accepting this lightly or quietly, but to be assumed to take on more responsibility without benefit is beyond me. Mind you, this came down from my director; my boss made me privy.5
-
My "senior developer" colleague just committed 300Mbs worth of node modules in addition to static files bundle. So not only I have to wait 20mins for the changeset to download on this god damned internet over barrels connection but also resolve merge conflicts on 100+ files. You think that was a mistake? Oh no I've asked him about it and it was intentional ...1
-
Does any developer here does design work as well as code. I got pulled into it. was expecting a only dev job, according to the job description" but the creative team start handing me InDesign task and Photoshop task with no experience in design. is that crazy or normal for front end developers?10
-
I just encountered a website whos ad block game is on-point. Your typical Ad overlay, that can be removed with developer options PLUS disabling scrolling.
Too bad, they disabled it only horizontally and forgot about diagonal scrolling1 -
Biggest hurdle in my Dev career?
To be as good an architect as the developer I am.
Challenges: You'll have to convince fellow architects, business clients, junior developers, mid level developers. Some understands UML, some only wants POC, some wants to see code, some just wants a PowerPoint deck, and some just wants to see the cost benefits only. -
Looking at new jobs in my area. This company is looking for an entry level full stack developer with “eights” years of experience. And preferred to have a masters degree. Probably only paying half the normal rate I bet too.4
-
So you want a junior developer who has at least 3-5 years of experience? Am I the only one who can't figure out why a developer would still be at a junior level after 5 years?6
-
This is the first time I've been on a project with a developer that is incredibly slow. Almost an entire month has passed, and this particular developer is still working on a story. In fact, it's the only story the devs picked up.
I work for a consulting organisation, and this particular developer and I are the only ones engaged on this project.
I am also the senior developer. I have tried numerous times to help speed things up by suggesting if there are blockers to hit me up so we can get it resolved.
At this point, I'm not entirely sure what to do. Should I report this back to the company I work for, or should I shut my mouth and say nothing because it isn't my problem?3 -
We're trying to use Oracle databases in Visual Studio. They won't install the Oracle developer tools on my system. Life has lost all meaning. I'm floating in an endless void where the only sensations are confusion and the vague sense that someone is stepping on my stomach4
-
Definitely Jon Skeet. Not only is he #1 on stackoverflow. He is actively tackling the hardest problem of them all: Time zone.
Closely followed by Joel Spolsky. The founder of stack overflow. Feels like all his products (fogcreek, trello) revolutionizes developer productivity and addresses actual pain points5 -
So you have saved up some money, got a macbook, paid for an apple developer account to build an app which uses the camera only to find out that the simulator doesnt work with the macbook's camera. Apple do you realise that without devs you wouldn't have a decent app store?8
-
When you marvel at your code creation and the beauty of your envisionment only to be painfully whittled down as your boss tells you to change it all, because he doesn't like how the code looks. Joys of being a junior developer!1
-
Being the only developer in your circle of non-tech friends is weird 😕.
And why are most female programmers not appealing 🤦♂️.
The beautiful ones are usually clueless and can't get into a ”deep programming concept ”conversation.
I guess I can't eat my cake and have it at a time.18 -
I fear that in the future there will only be 2 possibilities as software developer
either work for pennies out of passion while others profit off your work as more and more open source developers do
or work in a dipshit heavy environment with soul-less automatons who look only to maximize a column or another in a spreadsheet until they are ready to retire and die6 -
Hi everyone my name is Dylan, but people call me solario eh im an empty web developer! no ideas in my head about what i should create next, the only thing that helps is InnerText in this senario i found my first application on school computer!!! no more web based glitchy ides i have the perfect one right here =D,9
-
Finally solved the most elusive bug I have ever encountered.
It only occurred in chrome and the reason I could never recreate it is because it didn't happen when developer tools was open WTF!
Try solving an apparent JS bug without your console - I've never been this happy/relieved!2 -
!rant
First post...starting a new job today, and I will be working as a JavaScript developer (Node, angular). I only worked with Java before this job and my only JS experience is with little side projects. I am super excited to get start working with new technologies. Anyone out there have a similar experience?4 -
Am I the only one that cringes when I see software developer consistently ranked as one of the best jobs to have? Are other jobs that horrible that this is as good as it gets? I’m probably too cynical I suppose.
I feel like I was seduced by the fun of programming only to have the corporate enterprise suck my soul dry.9 -
We came across a bug that only manifested itself in Edge if, and only if, the developer console was closed. Which we only discovered once it went live since during testing we always had the console open to monitor things... D:2
-
Editors ask me to build a web application for students that consisted of 21 separate pages, 55 images, and 29 interactives. They want this in 1 month. I'm the only designer and developer.5
-
Got engaged to set up the CI for a project. Worked with the main developer to set up the dev environment only to find out that he deleted 80% of the migration files because he didn't know what they were
-
What are some good android developer communities? Looking for somewhere to learn and ask questions that might not be code related, so can't be on stack overflow. What do you use? I use android for hobby projects only.5
-
Got my first internship as a Web developer in exoitics India.
This is great day as I am only in 12th standard.
When I applied in the company then they reject even day not care to take exam but after then when I given and out off 5 questions I done 4 then they believe and appointed me as a Web developer.4 -
Am I the only one who thinks gaming hardwares are also nice developer machines with extra strips of LED?15
-
Hey. I would like to do a research on developer burnout analyzing post from developer sites like Stackoverflow or devRant. I think it's getting a more and more common problem in the developer community. What do you think about it? Any ideas about how should i identify the symptoms from only programming related posts?9
-
Am I the only one who doesn't like seeing press in the front line at developer conferences. Devs should be sitting there!1
-
"Back when I was starting on this position I was the only developer in the team so there was NOONE to teach me anything - you'll figure it out on your own" 😂
-
Why you literally took fucking half hour to fix this shit, I’m telling you, there is only a naming problem there, nothing else!
And his title is
“SeNiOr FrOnT-eNd DeVeLoPeR”4 -
I hate Chrome Books/ ChromeOS. I was recently told that at my job we would be using Chrome Books and I am not excited, chrome os is essentially a mobile software on a real computer, the only redeeming factor is the Linux support in the developer betas.
Chrome books suck.5 -
Had our 3rd party vendor finally check their code into our github. Great.
Checking the recent commits, they only add changed .CSS files. Hmm..odd.
We use less so why did they update the compiled CSS file...? Did they forget to checkin the Less changes...?
Nope. Backend sitecore developer updated the bundled, minified CSS files and checked those in along with the fucking node_modules folder.
Didn't even know what LESS is.
The vendors PM swears the frontend developer did the changes. I don't know what's worse. -
What's the smallest size start-up company you would work for? The American dream, of course, is to own your own company. If that option were off the table, would you work as a developer for a startup company that only had 3 other employees, including the CEO?4
-
*Be project manager/most senior developer*
*Higher up tells you there is only enough money to hire recent graduates/internees, the cream of the pie, and that I can't hire fewer developers with more experience*
*Code is shit as result*
*Feels anger towards the developer that did it*
*Feels sorry because that developer is actually trying really hard and is diligent even if he is inexperienced*
*Change anger object to higher management*
*Repeat* -
Only been a developer for two years, am still learning and shouldn't complain... but you can't teach common sense. Sigh2
-
Ok so as the only developer in a tech startup who is mostly self-taught i've decided to take the initiation and do some online certificates and diplomas
bagged 2 now
1 Python programming
2 Business frameworks and IT for Orgs2 -
That moment where you're scared for you job because one of your merges seemingly broke the builds for the 2nd time in a week, had HR reach out, a more senior developer take over the ticket after it gets sent back from testing twice ONLY TO FIND OUT LATER IT WAS ANOTHER PERSONS TICKET THAT WAS CAUSING THE ISSUE8
-
It's going to be horrible if God was a JavaScript developer. We'll only be created as skeletons and have to run some commands like
npm install brain
npm install body3 -
Every developer thrives to be the best. But, it's not only the skills, hard work or knowing infinite languages makes you the best. It only makes you the good.
Along with skills, hard work & the languages, the best one needs to have those instincts about the possible solutions to a problem and ability to decide and implement the most efficient solution cleanly in least amount of time.
I'm thriving to be the best. Are you?3 -
As a software developer, are your limits only to clear out the requirements and do the work, even if it does not make any sense.
I am a creative person, there are some CX changes and I want to suggest some ideas. But is it not my place to do that?
Am I forever stuck on the requirements and development part?7 -
I don't like how I develop our apps right now. My team leader said that the UI of the App, we are developing, only our UI/UX expert makes decision on how our app will look like. No developer must interfere. It's like shut up and do this. It's practically insane!6
-
Some companies do not hold ethics. They believe that developers are easily available in market and can be replaced any day.
These companies talk about serving notice periods for longer term, and than if they employ some one by then.. the management so called finds flaws in u and asks to leave before completing service period.
When the developer agrees to leave they realise the developer is currently developing a project for the benefit of the same company , than they increase the reliving date again. I mean why can't they be certain on what they want?
These kind of companies only knw to exploit and extract young developers knowledge and every developer should be aware of this type of people .
Also evaluating and review a code cannot be done in few seconds without e1 knowing the project, and specially by some one who holds same experience as u . Bt in only 1 framework . So junior developers before absorbing any feedback from any evaluator, please try to understand the person's background and knowledge in the field he is evaluating u in .4 -
My friend is interested in web dev, and I'm a web developer. How can I quickly teach him the important parts and get him up to internship-ready level? He's already graduated college, but only really knows the basics of programming. Learns fast though. What do employers really look for?13
-
Am I the only one who will spend half an hour reading through the "top all-time rants" section of devRant to figure out why they're so popular? I just can't shake that feeling that there's some sort of pattern there that I can optimize...
Guess I must be a developer, given that last statement :D3 -
New developer drop the production database. Thank god the daily backup was made only couple hours before. 3 developers spent the rest of the day recovering the lost data3
-
am I the Only Developer that REALLY HAS BAD TIME MANAGEMENT Skills over long projects like come the fek on brain.
look below only if interested has nothing to do with rant
------------------------------------------->
oh yeah and by the way got a new project out3 -
Job offer that just popped in my inbox: "backend developer with strong frontend skills" :/ I wonder this company
1) saves way too much money hiring the less people as possible.
- or -
2) only knows that developers develop, but don't have a clue about how that is internally organised in a well structured team.1 -
The feeling when you’re trying out a new thing as a developer and part of it is to use Google Cloud Platform and halfway through, Google starts vomiting errors and you can’t access any information and you think for a second that you broke Google before realizing that you’re not the only one having issues. #badtiming

App Developer - Today, I have published an app for saving anyone's work routine.....plz download it from play store
Web Developer - Sure! I will and I also have a website for my business. You should visit it once
App Developer - What is your monthly income?
Web Developer - About $2100
App Developer - Uh! mine will be more than urs if it reaches more than 100K downloads
Web Developer - Sure!
(1 year later)
App Developer - Oh Shit! I forgot to add ads using admob......earned only $52 -
As the only developer in the startup team. I am really sick of explaining "how it works" and "how to execute"...
-
From Documentation:
"A SHA256 HMAC is created outside of Bronto. If you need help with this step, contact one of the developers at your company."
Yes because, cause every company has a developer.
*Only developer at company* -
being the only developer for .net and being a fresher of a company is very scary when a bug pops up and you know nothing about it.
-
LinkedIn is a really nice tool and website... and then there are people who contact you to become the only developer in a new startup and work for free in exchange of company shares, that at this moment are worthless. Wtf5
-
For those wanting split screen to work on android. Go to settings -> developer options -> "Force activities to be re-sizable"
And just like that. It works. (Only problem I've seen is the + button to post isn't there6 -
I work part-time in a small non-tech company as the only developer/tech-support. The work is fine and I got a own laptop.
But fml my laptop is the slowest in office and should be burned already in the stone age.1 -
I worked for 16 hours straight without any break because client kept me on call with screen sharing on and asked me to solve all the bugs from last 6 months of coding because he wanted to go live next day.🤕
Ps: I was the only developer and the only tester of that project.1 -
Is a masters degree in IT worth it? I mean I've just started my masters in Software Engineering after my Computer Science bachelor's and I expected to learn something useful from it. So far they have taught only bullshit and stuff that I haven't found useful since I've started my IT career 3 years ago (now I am the team lead at a small startup, and I consider myself a really good developer). To summarize, is a masters diploma useful? Will it help me with anything, give that I've started working as a developer (freelancer, didn't know much back then) when I was still in high school (CV bragging rights)?8
-
If a developer made a database design choice (too short field length) 3 years ago on a project, should the development studio or customer be expected to fit the bill for any time taken to fix.
It was only small so we did it for free, but I just wandered what's the norm?12 -
My First ever VSCode extension is live.
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...
A symbols tree view provider that supports PHP/TS/JS only (for now). Any suggestions/recommendations are welcomed !!!
Boy, does it feel good to feel like a real developer again 😎8 -
On my first job I was a "Web developer" who made websites with WordPress and I was the only Web developer. Now on my second job I am a "Web programmer" who made websites with Joomla...

As a normal developer, I ignored the warning symbols google maps gave me and kept going the route only to realize late later that warning symbol must have said "toll road". Luckily I did have cash LOL1
-
should i update to macOS sierra
, can we make this post as issues that developers facing with the new update and by developer i mean not only mac developers but many developers work on mac so if there is something failing from them please comment
i think this will be useful for all of us4 -
When you suggest a developer meeting on design patterns and you're technical director says(seriously) "I used to teach people everything you need to know about design patterns in 20minutes - there's only one question - 'should we do it?' and the answer is always 'yes'"
-
It's prime working hours right now, I'm the only developer in the office and stackoverflow is down. I'm gonna have a panic attack6

Since I'm a front-end developer I've been working on PHP quite a lot lately, not only for front-end but also for back-end stuff, data conversion and image manipulation.
I've found that it's quite pleasant to work with thanks to the tons of documentation around and how straightforward it is.
I don't get how much hate it gets but I assume it's because I'm only starting to work with but damn, you could even build a car with it!1 -
So i had the jobinterview this morning. I got the question what my current team looks like.
Yes well, i am the team because i’m the only frontend developer here.2 -
One more time I hear that having a meeting to specify an API between our two systems is "not a real work" and "waste of time" and I will probably eventually punch the guy in the face. No, working as a developer is not only about tapping on a keyboard.
-
Fucking IT bloggers be telling you about how to deploy scalable hype meta monad 420 doritos bacon containers. Forget those hipsters.
The only developer blog you need is ACM Queue. -
I hate this type of Developer who always asks to add everything as requirement for every single detail. Company is paying you for thinking, or at least asking BA, not only coding requirements in Java/C#/whatever and denying fixes because it was not in requirements.3
-
That day, a true developer was born, and with him came to the earth, his true companion. And he promised the dev , that they can only be parted by your death.
And the true companion was none other than the - BUGS!!!!😉
He also added that i have no death and i will never leave you in solitude😋😉. -
So after I had an interview for a part-time(student) position, I got an offer. The only thing I find it weird is shit pay for the thing that I have to implement. A full application with, with a nice architecture and all. Something that you would task a full time middle developer. Cheap work..2
-
That moment when you do the last test and confidently upload code only to find out you overwrote the remote dev's changes and the Git commit hadn't yet occurred meaning the backup didn't preserve it so now you're screwed until the developer gets around to restoring it. Tables were flipped this day.
-
Four years have I been a JS developer, only today I realized that negative numbers are truthy :facepalm:2
-
I've only had a couple of bosses. Neither were bad nor were they amazing. My current environment is that I'm the only web developer so I don't really have a department boss. Instead my boss is the media boss which is charge of all things related to media. From websites to flyers. He has no idea what I do but trusts me to get stuff done. And he allows time to learn more about the field so I can be better equipped for the job.
-
When you're the only developer in a group who uses self-commenting code... or comments for that matter.
-
Soooo how was your productive day?
I kept getting interrupted by a co-worker every 5 minutes with stupid questions (like "I want to see you log into Jira so I know it work for you", I have never had issues with it), the deadline is only in 2 days, we're still missing a few features, and I'm off tomorrow btw, also I'm the only developer in my department for now
Soooo how was your productive day? -
I’m frantically trying to escape the ‘CS grad to web / react / next developer’ pipeline. Only thing that sucks is I only know the web shit6
-
Thanks past developer for not only one bug but also the bug in your exception handling attempting to catch this bug which resulted in confusing the hell out of us for way too long due to output that made absolutely no sense
-
You can call yourself a senior developer only when you have a Junior developer in place.
#startups #fancynames -
DevOps:
How far does the Ops part go in DevOps? Is it like: Developer are going to manage k8s clusters (with cloud-providers etc.)? Or is it "only" writing deployments etc...?11 -
Am i the only one who stop watching conference whenever a Windows developer comes in and try to give his piece of shitty advice cause trust me guy 99% of times this advice is linked to some shitty promotion of their twat service their cloud, test labs whatever . Fucking waste of one hour . Microsoft is a bag of shit company
-
Best:
- Getting a decent pay for 13h job, so I can study additionally
- University switched to fully online, such that commodity of 2h+/active university day are gone (guess this is dev related when studying CS)
Worst:
- Admin heavy job, with only minor development tasks and no senior developer to learn from
- Nightmare project still alive and under maintenance1 -
if i am a native android-only developer and not a hybrid app developer for both android and ios, is it possible for my app(s) to generate enough money? by enough i mean a lot. A lot of money
what is the proportion of people who use android and ios? who uses what os more?6 -
I've been asked to write a job ad for a frontend developer, as I have never don that, what would you write in there? And what are usual salaries for frontend devs? Also what would you ask them in an interview? What kind of coding challenges would you give them? Also we're not looking for a "code monkey" only but that person should also be responsible for jow everything looks (like the design and UI/UX of the site). How would you call that position? I've for now put "Frontend UI/UX Web-Developer" there.2
-
Spryker .... or how to drive a developer only into insanity
Really guys, are there any spryker developers here on devrant? How do you get over the constant desire to kill yourself to end the pain??2 -
!rant I've seen so many developer communities and none of those has been so friendly like you guys at devRant are. I've only once seen one rather rude answer and that was just like 'nop we aren't stack overflow, ask that question there'. Keep up that great vibe guys, you are awesome!

First year as a professional developer, and this Thanksgiving break is making it hard to get back into the code base here at work. Am I the only one?2

Is it something like, with a great salary band you don't need to go to US? I'm a software developer, I get good money, in India.
There are a lot of people moving to US, the people I think can only take right decisions.14 -
I got a job as Back End Developer in IT company, but in two month i only fix styling and layouting website.

Am I the only one that thinks that websites like dev.to are a huge pile of useless buzzwords and still less useful articles? I speak as a less-than-junior developer...
Just scrolled for five minutes dev.to and I didn't find anything useful nor interesting...1 -

Today. Where the senior developer got into a schoolyard yelling match with one of our owners. And then the only thing we accomplished in an hour was that we decided we needed another meeting next week.

Is there anywhere that you can get your open source code brutally reviewed?
As the (almost) sole developer on a project (and only just entering the world of professional software development), I have no idea if the stuff I've written is good, bad, or just plain disgusting, and obviously the only way to improve is to be aware of the mistakes you made3 -
So I'm planning to open a company in Bulgaria really soon. Looking for (junior) developer and UX/gfx designer for permanent, remote only position.
Can anyone recommend me where to find such people in Bulgaria?5 -
When employers expect high end developer results but only supply basic tools, training, and resources... “Doing your best” can only get one so far when deadlines are always in the air and research time is limited. Pls no.

It's a sad way to live, where you only want like-minded people around you.
Like you being a software developer only wanting to be around software developers.6 -
asked a developer to give me a software for free. he showed attitude, so after 3 month i created a better version of that software.
my only companion was a vb6 book, some source code to read and test and a slow internet connection.2 -
How do you survive in a company which is venturing into development and you being the only developer4

Is here anyone who really thinks that there is any benefit of participating in hackathons?

Thought I was a full stack developer for my company with only android and sails js until I was also told to design the website.
-
web dev. ui/ux. full stack.
I am not a senior developer but im doing multiple jobs like full stack dev, ux designer and architect.
I only like front end given the choices.
I want to do some vr but the market seems not ready for that so i can only do some learning at home. -
I live in New Delhi, India and I'm a MEAN stack developer can anyone recommend me some companies I should target for a job? and yes I'm a fresher with only 3 months experience3
-
I got deployed to a client who uses Java. I have no knowledge in Java. Can I learn it in only half a month? Also including spring boot to create web services. The project will start soon.
They say the number 1 skill of a developer is the ability to learn fast. I'm a PHP JS guy by the way.8 -
Is front end developer only serve the HTML and all the work to make it dynamic with data from back end and also configuring JS for Ajax, api should be handled by back end dev ?3
-
The only time I didn't envy git is when most of the team had to refetch after our lead front-end developer deleted trunk, committed the deletion, and then a backender had to re-base it off his repo. Until then, I thought only my dog could fetch for days.

When should I develop a website myself using whatever the hot framework currently is and when should I just use something like a cms because it is too complex for only one developer to make the website3

Are there any .Net developer here?
Need help. Our application created in visual studio 2003 using .net framework 1.1 suddenly showing "Failed to load resources from file. Please check setup." error when loading a form using a dll, also created in .net framework 1.1. This is only on windows 10 build 1703. On older builds, it is working fine.
Thanks!3 -
When your backend developer says the client has an issue on his virtual machine but has a bad track record of being incorrect and never checking if there is a conflict in the API that is causing authentication to fail for a feature and you then step through their code only to find the conflict in the API only to have them get mad at you for finding the problem after stating it's "Not my problem." I don't have time for this shit.

The moment a trainer u made your boss hire tells u, that it's far from normal that the devs (me) setup the tfs themselves and add also Backlog items, Testcases etc, because PO and Team leader are thinking TFS is way to technical and an developer only tool...
-
When do you use parameters in your Dto/ViewModel constructors?
I'm trying to explain to a senior developer, that we don't need to have all parameters for all properties,
we only need it to set default/private fields.3 -
I am the only Backend developer in my team, so I have to do sysAdmin tasks, deployment and configurations myself....
I HATE it! -
on serious node!
is nodejs overhyped, irrespective of the fact that now you only need to learn one language as full stack developer!!2 -
I want to get notified when my order is arrived, but not the gazilion promos and discount bullshit.
Can we solve this as developer? Like giving an app the notification permission only for some time when we have an order.1 -
So... Saying im an intermediate-beginner coder who had programming in highschool learning only Pascal, VB, VB+SQL and PHP coding something that i'll barely use in my developer career (programs like Fibonacci sequence and other math related stuff), can anyone give me some challenges in PHP/C#/Javascript simulating the "real programmers" actually code? Sorry for bad english3

Today I realized that developer titles at my company are only based on salary. At a certain salary level you will be promoted to senior or lead...1
