Management : "How long you think it would take?"
Me : "now this is a rough estimate, but I think building the back-end and database alone could take 6-months minimum"
Management : "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS"
me : "its a big proj..."
Management : "I thought it will be something like 10 days, already told the client it can be done"
me : "but we are not ready"
Management : "how are we not ready? we already have the virtual 3D shop, and we can use this ready-to-deploy eCommerce service as our data base "
... "you need to figure this out, this is not acceptable" he continued
* 2 Days Later -talking to my direct boss *
Boss : "since you don't know how to do it..."
me : "what ? I didn't say I can't do it, all I said it will take six months"
Boss : "yeah yeah, anyway there is this studio, a professional polish studio, we called them and they can do it, we will sign a contract with them, this will let you focus on the front-end. good?"
me : "well alright then"
Boss : "please write a doc, explaining everything needed from the backend"
-to me that was the end of it, took a long time to tell me they made the deal-
* 5 Months later *
- "Abdu, can you come here for a minute..."
- "yes boss?"
- "the document we asked you to do for the Polish studio, did you specify that we needed an integration with the API we are using for eCommerce?"
scared to death I answered : "why of course I did!"
I ran to my PC to check it out because I didn't know, I forgot because no one even comment on my doc. I check it out, and it was clearly explained... I got relaxed...
turns out they didn't even do what we asked them for. took them 5 months, and with no communication whatsoever. all their work was useless to us. complete dump waste.

never mentioned this until a year later... in a heat of moment when they were asking me to make an impossible task with no men and no time... I reminded them of this story... management didn't like it. but it was the truth. they didnt push this crazily this time13 -

Hello, would you like to hear a TCP joke?
Yes, I'd like to hear a TCP joke.
OK, I'll tell you a TCP joke.
OK, I'll hear a TCP joke.
Are you ready to hear a TCP joke?
Yes, I am ready to hear a TCP joke.
OK, I'm about to send the TCP joke. It will last 10 seconds, it has two characters, it does not have a setting, it ends with a punchline.

So I work in IT for the police. I just received an "unneeded" encrypted smartphone.
I had to reconfigure it, in order to give it to the next policeman. Unfortunately nobody knew the password and there is actually no way to reset this damn thing.Trust me, i did my research.
About 2 days later i receive an angry call by the policeman that should be using the phone by now.
Policemen: "Why is my phone not ready yet?"
Me: "it's encrypted and nobody has the password."
Policemen: "Well just ask the previous owner then!"
Me:"It's a little difficult..."
Policemen: "Why?!?"
Me: "He shot himself."16 -
Every Monday morning:
I hate this 9-5 life. This kind of time constrains should not be allowed. I will not allow someone else to control my life. *gets ready to make rebel group and protest against government*

The new Dutch mass surveillance law goes into action on the first of May. I'll of course have a good security setup ready but that does not stop the bulk data collection.
I just setup a website which (still in English at the moment) requests a random search result from bing, google or DuckDuckGo every 3 seconds.
Will work on making it more 'real' :)
If stopping the surveillance isn't an option, let's add more data to filter out for them!38 -
Holy fucking shit.
Why do people always expect you to know absolutely everything the second they ask?!
PM: "Yes yes of course we can do that!!! We've done it a million times, we do it for breakfast HAHAHAHAHA"
ME: "Well not really, we've never implemented a solution like that one, its gonna take some time to figure it out"
PM: "HAAAAHAHAHA HE'S SOO FUNNYY LMAOFUDKSJ DONT WORRY WELL HAVE IT READY FOR TOMMORROW :P".
Holy fuuuck I understand you wanna make the sell but you need to give the costumer a realistic look at things, at least give a reasonable deadline for what he's asking! FFS ASK ME HOW COMPLICATED ARE THE THINGS HES ASKING FOR BEFORE TELLING HIM WHEN THEY'RE GONNA BE READY! MAKE A FUCKING ESTIMATE, WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A TEAM!
Oh and this rant is gonna happen, dont care if I get fired. This needs to change.3 -

one of my cousin ask me to help him for uploading his ex's private pics and videos on porn websites.
Because her parents are not allowing their marriage and she is not ready to go against family (he is not working anywhere, Jobless)
I simply take screenshots of our chat and send to his ex and her parents.
Hope they will punish him.16 -
At least it wasn't Disney who acquired GitHub. Not sure if the world is ready for GitHub branded tampons yet.7

When business people keep dragging you into one meeting after the other and then wonder why that code you were supposed to write is not ready yet...2

Not sure what hapend... On my laptop running Ubuntu 17.10, I just got a notification:
Problem occured: "Ubuntu is ready"
Not sure what to do now... :P8 -
"You either suffer the pain of discipline, or you suffer the pain of regret."
Alarm is set for 0500 (and placed at the opposite side of the room, not more snoozing), jogging shoes are ready and, after a year of putting it off, this is my good night lecture. I'm done regretting.8 -
Fuck windows 10. I log on to start an interview code assignment that is timed. I'm on my computer getting things ready for a solid 10 minutes before starting the test. AS SOON as I start the test, windows 10 informs me:
Fuck you. There's updates and I'm installing them right now whether you like them or not, fucker. I bet you're doing something important too, so I'm not even going to let you schedule it at another time.
Fuck.15 -
This is actually an advice given to me:
"Only ever release your code on a Friday, preferably after 6pm. If you're not confident enough to do that, your code is not ready."
Who says dev doesn't require courage.2 -
You know what I realized we should always say no for demo driven application development.
We should always ask for enough time do a proper development and if its not enough, shouldn’t write a single line.
Because once we deliver a working demo. Its release ready for them because its FUCKING WORKING..
And trying to explain why this is just a demo and cant be put to production is even bigger pain in the ass than saying no in the beginning.
LESSON LEARNED .4 -
You know the story about Battlefront 2? How long it takes to farm points to unlock those cool characters like Darth Vader etc? Yeah, it takes some time. Time that I necessarily don’t want to spend on mindless playing. I thought I’d try to beat the system by building this thing that would play the game for me by moving and jumping every few seconds.
I already have the code ready and now I just need to build the physical thing that will actually interact with the controller.
I am using an Arduino Uno with two micro servos.
Honestly I just want to see if I could build it, I’m not sure I will actually use it (you barely get any points if you’re not killing people anyway).
I’ll keep you posted with the result!13 -
Always the same story:
Marketing: hey I'm gonna do a demo to a customer. They were asking for feature XYZ. That's ready on thr staging server right? Do you think I could use the staging server for the demo?
Devs: well feature XYZ is not 100% done. Basically just feature X is done, and it still has a few bugs. The deadline ain't for another month, since we gotta finish ABC first. I guess you could use the staging, but it has a lot of bugs.
Marketing: perfect!
*after presentation*
Marketing: the staging had so many bugs! Why didn't you tell me?! It was so embarrassing showing it to new customers! Anyway, they loved the new feature. We need it to be ready ASAP.
Devs: What?! That's gonna mess up with our schedule. You know what? Fine, but feature ABC will have to wait another month.
Marketing: Well, it'd be ideal if we could do both...
Devs: Pay for more devs or dor extra hours.
Marketing: Just do XYZ. It's a pity that you'll have to push back ABC but it's fine, XYZ is more important.
(I might ask, if it was so important, why didn't you notice so in the meeting where we had decided that ABC would be prioritized?)
*tons of working hours later*
Devs: There, we finished XYZ.
Marketing: Yay! Wow, this month we'll have two major features done: ABC and XYZ!
Devs: No, ABC is not done yet.
Marketing: What? But the deadline was this week.
Devs: It was, but then you decided to prioritize XYZ and we said we had to push back ABC to get XYZ ready, and you agreed.
Marketing: Did we? Fine. But do it quick.
Marketing and their mood swings.6 -
– we’ll be making money teaching people to code
– okay, so what should I do?
– it’s up to you. Develop the whole course and start making money for us
– ...
Another one, same boss:
– let’s develop paid website/press kit wysiwyg generator, it should be ready today
– it’s not a fucking landing page, it require more time, so let me do some research first
– you’re fired
Boy, was he an asshole. Me and my gf worked there for several months, then we left and boom, a month have passed and his company stopped existing6 -
So I worked on getting a server ready for about 30 hours last week to be ready for a deploy on Monday Night (last night). Not only did I work on it for 30 hours, we had two other architects and a senior engineer working on it too. We got everything done Friday and it was ready to go with a simple cutover on Monday night.
The only thing left to do was deploy a link change Monday night on the existing landing page. My part was the backend servers and application that had the complicated SSO system and the other part was just a link to get to the SSO. I asked the person responsible for deploying the landing page's link if he was ready about a dozen times. He kept saying he was deploying X (the code name for the project deploy) and that is all he was doing.
Now jump to that night. They have decided that a single landing page wasn't enough and they were going to deploy a full CMS. Well no one knew what the hell was going on and they didn't realize that the landing page was hosted externally on another host. After arguing for two hours they delayed the deployment for multiple days. 24 hours later they are still trying to figure out the CMS on a host.
30 hours and four senior engineer's time wasted to get everything done for the deadline all to be canceled because of on jackass's lack of planning. WTF2 -
Reinstalling arch. I broke it while grading homework. Sad. Also worried my phone is going to ring and I'm going to not have my laptop ready.16

Just had a (freshly outta college) kid ask me "but who still uses Linux, anyway?"
When I could not hold my laughter, he doubled down with "I mean, no serious company would risk everything on open source packages that they can't know who made!"
I just sent him to talk to our sysadmin and I'm still thinking "man, I should have a sick 1337 burn ready for this situation".
Can someone suggest some snarky rebuttals? Thanks!16 -
When I'm proud of the new function I invented and have no clue how anybody will get a use of it...
The world is just not ready for this2 -
One of our internal customers to my team: "We need this new feature to be implemented as soon as possible! It's super urgent!! Work on it asap!! PEOPLE ARE DYING!!"
Us: "Ok, we'll prioritize this feature and deliver it as soon as we can"
Them: "Is it ready yet?"
Them: "Is it ready yet?"
Them: "Is it ready yet?"
Them: "Is it ready yet?"
... One month later ...
Them: "Is it ready yet?"
Us: "We're done! We implemented everything as promised! Please give us your credentials so that we can whitelist you and you can start using the new service"
Them: "Okay, we will get back to you"
... Two months have passed since then and still not a single word from them. I'm starting to wonder: are they still alive? 🤔4 -
as a windows10 user, I'd like to coin the term
Restartophbia
[fuhk win-dohz]
a general sense of fear and despair, caused by either seeing the words "please wait", "we're getting things ready", or "update and restart"
Restartophobia treatments include having two or more pc's, or the application of Linux on a regular basis.
> Do I have Restartophobia?
General fear from the Restart is common, and does not necessarily mean you suffer from Restartophobia. But, if you dread opening your pc, or sweat and feel unbalanced every time you open the shutdown/restart options, you might want to check your symptoms6 -
People say programmers are no fun!! But they don't know the truth.
We have big Ass container of emotions almost ready to explode anytime. We are spending too much time in debugging stuff one after another that having a free time is just a hoax to us, even when we came back home for sleep, it's only to dream about solution. We would be happy with debugging the error that is not letting us sleep for weeks.4 -
Me: Baby, I can't do what you want me to because I need to learn how to use Github and it is taking longer than it should.
Girlfriend: Don't feel bad, maybe you're just not ready to commit yet.
Me: Laugh and die a little inside because I understand the pun but not the program.5 -
My boss gave me a project without any meaningful requirements and asked:
boss: can you finish this in 9 months?
me: well I really can't give you any estimate.
boss: well just do it.
8 months later I summarize all weekly requirements that the client has given and estimated I should be able to finish the project with just 3 months, if only the requirements are ready and not changing from time to time. What a f***ing waste of my time? Why the f*** people do this? And after all this my boss said:
boss: I think we should be able to finish this project faster.
YOU THINK!4 -
I hate seeing Bootstrap under "Required skills" for the front end jobs.
Why? Why is it REQUIRED? Why not "Bootstrap is a plus"?
I know HTML,CSS and JS well enough to be able to do anything without a framework.
I know it might be faster, but that's only is you want similar looking websites.
I'm sorry Bootstrap, it's not you, I'm just not ready to make a commitment yet.8 -
App nearing completion. Code tested, everything's working fine. Ready for release.
The client just calls me and tells me that they have decided to turn the app into two separate ones. Should not be a problem, you developers must have some tricks for that, according to the client. Of course, the release date remains unchanged.
Clients!, finally understand that there's no secret button for turning an app into two separate ones.5 -
Had a great day yesterday. Productive, happy, felt great, and was focused despite a lot of cute distractions. Finished a third of my feature.
Today, I wanted to start work early because I had planned out what I wanted to work on next and how to approach it. I felt motivated. I’d jump out of bed, get ready, and start early. No breakfast but maybe some coffee.
Woke up to two hours of constant distractions, irritations, and time wasting instead. Anger. Everything sought to prevent me from starting.
When I finally got to work, the first thing I saw: political warmongering bullshit.
Guess I’m not getting much done today.13 -
*Me, sittting in a sprint planning meeting*
PM: We are going to start a 2 weeks sprint and everyone is expected to meet the deadlines no matter the cost.
*Scrum master being an intern doesn't still know how to plan the sprint*
Me: we are having a week long holiday due to elections next week and how do you expect to finish within the deadline when office is closed.
PM: we are aware of that, but who is ready to take this as a challenge and be proactive in completing the tasks?
How many of you have faced this situation where the company expects you to work from home and get the tasks done even during the holidays. The company only values their work and not the employees. They want us to work as slaves without valuing us. They expect us to be loyal to the company through work but they aren't ready to be loyal to us through payments.
DONT DEVELOPERS HAVE THEIR HOLIDAYS TO SPEND TIME WITH THEIR LOVED ONES? ARE WE MACHINES?15 -
When you learn your project will be launched Monday in an email sent to the whole company, just before the weekend...
I'm not even kidding. No one on our team was consulted if the app was ready or not.
There was no infrastructure in place to even deploy the app. Everything had to be done in a hurry over the weekend to deploy something half baked, thanks to that idiot project manager who told his boss everything was ready.
Two colleagues ended up doing this work over the weekend, but looking back, if I was the one having to get something deployed over the weekend, I would have just refused and come back to work as usual on Monday and watch that idiot explain why it's not live. -
So, apparently when you're POSTing to PHP with Content-Type: application/json the $_POST variable will not get populated because PHP is not ready to support JSON as input. Because 1999.9
-
Boss: We are going live tomorrow, are you ready?
Me: (Goosebumps and dry mouth) Sorry can you repeat that
Boss: Oh sorry not you, it's Sam whose app going live tomorrow
Me: (Inner me) Motherfucker. You dry dick piece of shit1 -
Last year at work we started migrating our backend from PHP on a dedicated server to Node.js on AWS lamda functions
We went from 10 second calls to 70ms calls...
At this point our frontend is not even ready for this kind of speed 😅9 -
- hire a new Dev.
- not burnout this year
- work less, deliver more
- start a open source side project and make it production ready7 -
Our client decided to save some $$. At the end of each business day teams downscale their environments before leaving and the next day scale them up in the morning to start working.
The idea is not bad, but they are a bit too ignorant to the fact that some environments are exceeding AWS APIs limits already (huge, HUGE accounts, huge environments, each env easily exceeding /26 netmask, not even taking containers into account). Sooo... scaling up might take a while. Take today for example:
- come in to the office at 7
- start scaling up
- have lunch
- ~15:00 scaleup has finished
- one component is not working, escalating respective folks to fix them
- ~17:00 env is ready for work
- 17:01 initiate scaledown process and go home
Sounds like a hell of a productive day!!! -
So what's preventing me from launching my startup/service/platform to the public? Not ready to deal with users like Nancy.2

(Instant Message)
Client: Are you there?
Me: Yes speak please.
(Why don't you just leave the message? It's not like having a phone call…)
Client: The contract is ready. I'll send it to you.
(Waited for an akaward 10 minute…)
Client: ???Can you receive it???
(Omg are you doing SSL handshake or what? Just send the file!)
Me: Yes I can pleasre send it to me thank you so much.
So after promoting Flutter to the clients (for whom cross plateform solution are perfect match) for almost a year, today I finally got the first ever Flutter App contract. I believ e time for Flutter is really coming. Wish me luck!3 -
!dev, sort of
Days like today make me not ready for Monday. Goddamnit nature, why you gotta be so pristine?12 -
Black Friday fail.
Local online store totally failed last year on BF, so they spent the whole week on news, radio, print ads, newsletter raving about how they upgraded the systems for BF and are expecting double the traffic of last year and are super ready. 60 seconds into BF, site went totally tits up, was not till 01:45 that anyone could access it again, and according to uptimerobot, they were tits up for about 55% of the day.1 -
The boss told me the app must be ready for Thurs. And he was supposed to tell me the information about the hardware they are using but he did not!
Also his phone is off 👿
How do u call this guy?7 -
Pattern I'm noticing...
*email* Hey, can you help me with my code, I don't know why it's not working...*end email*
no comments. if you wrote the shit and don't know what the blazes it's doing, how am i supposed to know what you broke? I'm not a mind reader, I don't know what you were thinking when you wrote the code.
true, I could go through and read it and try to figure it out, but then i'll be cranky and much less likely to want to help you in the future because you're causing unnecessary work, and part of my job is to get you ready for work environments, and I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY FUCKING POWER TO MAKE YOU THE ONE PERSON THAT EVERYONE DOESN'T HATE, BUT I WILL HATE YOU FOREVER BECAUSE YOU'RE PISSING ME THE HELL OFF.1 -
I passed my exam (did well even), signed up to be a blood donor and landed a job interview all in one day. If all days could be like that.. Now to go look my coworkers in the eyes like I'm not getting ready to jump ship but I'm secretly so excited I can barely sit still 🤭😂
(yes I know a job interview doesn't equal I got the job already, thanks and calm the fuck down, dads 🙄 only an idiot would only have one other thing lined up. Plan C, D and E are on standby too)5 -
Having a 24 hour programming exam today beginning at 9 am, so I decided to go to bed at 12 so I would get 8 hours of sleep and 1 hour to get ready.
Now I've not been able to sleep for the last 3 hours and my great master plan is ruined 🙃8 -
Tested out my first app and it worked beautifully. I’m a projectionist and I made this to give me a constant visual feed of projector communication connection. Still in development, not ready for deployment yet. But it works!
I’m posting here because although this site did not help me technically, it definitely helped me emotionally. ;)6 -
Never before I have shared my feelings with all great, kind developers. I always wanted to be the healthy, active & passionate member of this family...but never know what to say!!
Made an account earlier as well .. but thought I am not ready I always had some lame excuses so never shared anything before.
I am doing a fresh start now , able to convince myself to share something..
Hi !! to all the developers who are making this family truly amazing and fantastic :)5 -
Holy fuck I did it. I convinced my non tech manager not to do code QA after he brought the whole system down approving things without testing them and getting devs to make changes that caused bugs. Don’t get me wrong he threatened to fire me twice during the conversation but I dunno…I think I’m just about ready for my second dev job anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.7

1. Hit everything you do. You will learn more faster. Don't accept things at face value, care about why things work.
2. Study and experiment constantly. Be aware of your surroundings and what is going on. If you're not ready with a solution when a power vacuum appears, you will always be a grunt. Or worse, eventually a manager who everyone hates because you constantly tell the people who report to you how "back in your day," your code was amazing, there were no bugs and your shit doesn't stink.
3. Be honest with yourself: If you just want to keep your nose to the grindstone and make manager so you don't have to code anymore:
Quit. Stop now. Do not pass go, do not become a cancer on the industry.
Go get a job as a PM, you'll have a better career and you won't be the weak link holding everyone else back.
Tl;dr When the shit goes down, you better be ready.1 -
SOO.
I work at a grocery store, right. Cashier and all ya know, livin the dream. And whoever manages our product database. Needs to get thekr stuff together. We managed to confirm the DB isn't the same across the the registers. So now I have a bunch of stupid pictures of barcodes in my phone so I can make error reports for each and every single item that doesn't ring up. I know not ready dev related. But a dev somewhere is slacking5 -

Alright. Two dead Commodores.
Over 15 years before I was born? ✅
No idea how BASIC works? ✅
Internet at the ready? ✅
So far I've checked various chips for visible damage, and nothing except a blown fuse on both machines. Apparently it takes dual 9vAC and single 5vDC. The 9 powers the SID and the video output, the VIC-II heatsink is off, and I've tested the PSU voltages and one of the 9v's is dead. I'll be getting new fuses and a new PSU soon. Any recommendations on other things to check or things to do when they're done? Pic included because why not.12 -
Obvious wisdom from me;
1. HR is not your friend. HR is created to protect companies from employees, not to protect employees from companies. HR serve the company and upper level management.
2. If you are victim of mobbing, keep a mobbing diary with exact quoting. Nothing more, nothing less, no speculation. Create an airtight case for future.
3. If you want to change because of mobbing, just find a new job. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT talk to HR about mobbing before you got another job offer at the ready.
4. Present HR with mobbing diary during your exit, imply that you will talk to CEO and take legal actions if you don't get a satisfactory last laugh on the mobber.
5. Do not accept counter-offer from your company-regardless of mobbing case or not. You considered switching to another company, you are branded now and you will be axed at the first chance. Counter-offer is not a guaranteed employment in your company.9 -
Me, being a lowly junior dev, had the honor of being in a same group chat with a big corporation devOps team.
Finally ready to play with the big boys!!
*opens chat*
DevOps 1: "so we need to remove the CSS cache from our clients computers."
DevOps 2: "ok, well... just delete the server cache"
*watching in awe as they all try to figure out why it's not working*
This continued on for a while...
Until my boss had enough laughs and giggles and put an end to this stupidity :D1 -
Here it is: get MythTV up and running.
In one corner, building from source, the granddaddy Debian!
In the other, prebuilt and ready to download, the meek but feisty Xubuntu!
Debian gets an early start, knowing that compiling on a single core VM won't break any records, and sends the compiler to work with a deft make command!
Xubuntu, relying on its user friendly nature, gets up and running quickly and starts the download. This is where the high-bandwidth internet really works in her favor!
Debian is still compiling as Xubuntu zooms past, and is ready to run!
MythTV backend setup leads her down a few dark alleys, such as asking where to put directories and then not making them, but she comes out fine!
Oh no! After choosing a country and language the frontend commit suicide with no error message! A huge blow to Xubuntu as this will take hours to diagnose!
Meanwhile, Debian sits in his corner, quietly chugging away on millions of lines of C++...
Xubuntu looks lost... And Debian is finished compiling! He's ready to install!
Who will win? Stay tuned to find out!4 -
Client have this amazing idea about a website that they wanted to convert into reality by using our service. Me and my friend started working on it.
After a month later when it's almost ready, they informed they are not investing into the idea anymore. They would like to discard the project and will pay half of it.
I am eventually realising why signing a contract is really important4 -
Lesson I learnt the hard way today: ticket every fucking task (including admin) to:
A. Cover your arse (if the tickets are not ready because they haven't given us enough information, push back on it before committing too much effort to doing it)
B. Better deliverable (what you output will probably be better quality because you worked out the requirements upfront + you know the audience)
C. You have something to show management when they want to try and overwork you some more4 -
A project I'm working on uses Elastic for internal monitoring and logs. The customer asked to access those logs - not something we'd normally do, but it's isolated from other things we use and there's no critical data there, so what the heck, let them have it.
Ever since, we're getting tons of questions like "There are tons of [insert random info message] all the time, do you have any plans to resolve them?" and it gets to the point where I'm just about ready to scream back "NO, SUZAN, BOOKING NOT COMPLETED MANS THE USER F###ING CANCELLED IT, IT'S NOT SOMETHING I CAN FIX IN THE CODE"
Edit: the customer's name isn't actually Suzan4 -
Current list of developer skills:
* Can find 3rd or 4th best solution to most problems
* Easily ready to accept blame for anything to save time since it's likely my fault anyway
* Caffeine addiction only enough to make you worry, not intervene
* Can explain how JavaScript DOESN'T work, thus getting us both closer to understanding how it does
* Only choke on parts of presentations that aren't critically important, like minor details and Q&A

There's this huuuge project I was a part of for half a year. I was kicked off along with a few dozens of other devs (>60% of total manpower) a while ago for particular company reasons.
Now the remaining devs are oh-so-enjoying their time there..
1. workload has not changed
2. deadlines have not changed
3. no one will have Christmas-NewYear vacation
4. a new k8s-based infra is scheduled to roll out to PROD on Dec 23 (k8s is still far from ready - might need a few more months)
The most fun part is that it's not client's mgmt who has decided for #4 -- it's our own....
Boys.. Girls.. Save yourselves.3 -
Our HR guy is a tool. He requested I help him extract some data from our database. Which based on what he requested I supplied he then started trying to bully me because the data I gave him wasn’t what he wanted. Ringing me every 5 mins asking if it was ready, comparing me to another colleague who wrote the system.
When we blew up at him telling him to back off he continued. Anyway he still works here and persists in being a tool. i on the other hand ignore him.
I’m pretty sure that the HR bullying an employee is wrong, not massively worried about it just annoyed6 -
Client: "We're not ready to be finished with the project but I don't want to pay you any more money to meet the terms of the contract we both signed, even though all my must-have changes led to more costs just like you had warned me they would."
Me: "Don't make any more changes, plez."
Client: "Imma make another change."
Me: "No. Stahp. Don't."
Client: "I added four new fields and probably a ton more business rules I don't care to understand."
Me: "Kill me. Just put this gun to my head and kill me."
Client: "That's not in our contract!"3 -
Today teaching the product managers what the channel in "selected for development" in Jira means.
Guess what? IT MEANS THE FEATURE IS READY TO BE DEVELOPED ON, NOT SOME HALF-BAKED CROCK POT IDEA WITH A TWO-SENTENCE DESCRIPTION DESCRIBING ABSOLUTELY FUCK ALL!!!1 -
Some non-IT people wrote a crappy software tool. Others have started using it for business critical processes.
Asshats: "People are starting to use our tool and that means it's production ready!"
Me: "If and when this breaks are they going to call you to fix it?"
Asshats: "Well it's really just a proof of concept."
They want the glory but not the work that goes with it. And they dont want anyone else to develop it. They have been a huge pain for me lately.6 -
It's cool.
I have less than four weeks before I have to have my project production ready
But why not make me waste my time in useless web based fucking trainings for bullshit HR issues I'll never deal with.
"Don't give gifts of more than $100 to potential clients!" Shut fuck up I don't work with clients.
Piss off and let me do my job.1 -
Fuck the NBN - you aussies will know!
So apparently Fixed IPs are not a thing for HFC connections unless you have a business account.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Although I didn’t pay for a fixed ip on adsl and it states it’s “dynamic”, mind you it hasn’t changed in 6 years... so it may aswell be fixed right? Right?
Now I have to go explore DDNS with Cloudflare, looks like a api call on ip change will do the trick but urgh.
Ps: I finally.... made it to the nbn - well that’s next week...
only 3 years overdue since my first “NBN ready” letter 😂2 -
Starting a new job tomorrow after 4 months of unemployment. I'm not excited at all about this job. Gotta find where I stashed the clown face makeup so I'm all ready in the morning.1

For every developer, who lives a nocturnal life.. the toughest job is baby sitting for a week..

Waking up at 6am is not my cup of tea and getting the kids ready for school.. I would rather prefer to work all night...
Another 3 days to go...10 -

PM: Did you start looking into that stress testing tool.
Me: Literally looking into it right now
PM: Ah cool. So you'd be ready tomorrow?
Me: No
PM: Why not?
Me: I literally started looking at the tool. I can't promise anything.5 -
Boss: oh so you are working on that unrealistic 3week project ? Let me also assign you some completely unrelated office work.

My papa was financing my first university education. After 4 years in electrics&electronics engineering, I had 2.1 GPA and was not ready for life.
I reapplied for university exams and earned right to computer engineering dept. Papa supported my decision for whole new education after a brief talk and financed me for the second time.
Thanks father.4 -
I'm a contractor at a product company and today I had the pleasure of working with some jQuery.
A function needed to be called before another function, hard work right?
So I moved the call to the function 3 rows higher, checked it in, set the task as ready for test and started to look for other tasks.
Within a couple of minutes I get a direct message from another dev, let's call him Steve.
Steve wanted me to set the task to ready for code review instead of test, so I did just that and tried to move on.
Some minute or two later Steve contacts me again:
"It would be great if you'd move the comment so it'd be over the call to the function"
Well, I'm not one of those who likes comments... If you need a comment, it's probably not good/readable code. In some cases sure, it might be a complex block coming up.
Sorry, lost my train of thought.
I answered Steve : "Are you sure, I could just remove it instead?"
(for readability S will be Steve and M will be me)
S: Well, it's always good to have comments
M: In this case I think it will be alright.
S: But it's nice to see what the function is doing.
M: I'll do it if you really want me to.
S: It's better to have the comment than to not have it and needing it.
M: Okay then
The name of the function : LoadOrganizationTree()
And this is the comment :
//Load organization tree6 -
Starting to develop a phobia of asking for help from senior devs since I can now sense their face-palm whenever I open my mouth.
Maybe I'm not ready to work as a junior dev yet...9 -
I've been in the programming world for like a year and a half. I've had relatively notable achievements - first place at hackathons, completed kinda remarkable projects, I even got to teach programming to interns at a leading communications company in my country. However, I still feel like a beginner. I'm not confident enough to contribute to projects. Maybe it's because I'm self taught, but is this common? When did you feel like you were ready to proceed to the next level?8
-
I saw a job I could apply, I matched all the requirements, 100%. Not only the bases requirements, but I also had almost all the extras, and the company was in my country and spoke my language, it's good for me since my English isn't perfect.
I didn't apply because I'll graduate soon and I want to focus on my degree.
I bet that when I graduate all my current knowledge will be obsolete and I'll no find any job - not even if I beg for it - until I starve. Do you want to bet a beer? I'm ready10 -
Making an MVP is hard as hell. It's not even coding that makes it hard, it's knowing when to stop that's so damn difficult. By the time you're ready with something, your brain says "Hey...wouldnt it be great if you added this!" Then you add it, "whoa add this too!"...several days later:
Brain: "The fuck is this, all you needed was that"

When you start a new project with 2 more developers. You see their CVs and they look experienced.
(Fast forward one month....)
You realize you are the most experienced one and they are waiting for you to guide and mentor them.
The worst of all I thought I was going to learn from them because I still am not ready to mentor other people.
Aaaaaand now I am panicked.
I miss the time where I used to sit in my corner, do the tasks that was given to me and that's all. Now I have to code, build documentation, assign tasks, etc. I am not ready for this. I never asked for this. I just wanted to be a developer. :( :P2 -

I'm a python fanboy, not gonna lie.
I love everything about it. It's clean syntax, ready to use out of the box-ness, convenient built-in functions.
The one thing I hate is the official documentation. It's ugly, hard to navigate and a cluster fuck.
But it has proper information, so it's fine I guess. tsch12 -
Wrote a bot that would send a request to my phone where tasker would set the alarm, it was planned that my bot would automatically detect things like me turning off my pc and then setting a 9 or 10 hour wake up time incl. falling asleep and getting ready for bed, ended up using it to not open the clock app on my phone to set alarms6

Client: How long will it take you to build this?
Me: Maximum of 7days
Day 1 to Day 5, To myself: I have so much time, lemme build a Js engine in Rust and open-source it. It shouldn't take that long.
Day 6, After many failed attempts at debugging RegExp:
Starts working on the client's product, scraps off sleeping hour (why do I sleep in the first place)
Day 7: At 23:59...calls clients, he doesn't answer, probably sleeping... Sends message "Product ready to be tested at your call, I've not slept in 7 straight days because I like you"4 -
When you get a project ready for launch and the client finds a huge error that has to be fixed first, except it's not a huge error, it's something they requested two months ago and forgot about.4

Stories from Gary #000
Short background info:
So I'm working as a game dev for 3 years now and by now I can say that I've seen some shit. Mostly because of one of our game designers, let's call him Gary.
So Gary, from here on called GDG (Game Designer Gary), is a regular game designer (GD). His job is to come up with new game ideas, commission the assets, make sure that translations are done, etc. - simply put, he has to get a lot of shit together before we can start working on a new game.
Would be no problem at all if GDG wasn't lazy as shit and would work for once in his life. No dev really wants to work with him anymore, since he's known for calling a game or any issue "ready for development" even if half the assets or specs are still missing.
Let's move on to a particular situation that happened a couple of months ago.
I had an issue assigned to me, which was about implementing the translations for a new game. As I read the issue and checked if everything I needed was given, I noticed that the most important part was in fact missing - the keywords for the translations.
-.-
So, I called GDG and asked where I could find the keywords, to which he responded "Oh, I'm working on them right now... and by the way I got a weird bug with the translation program. Can you come check it out?". Sigh. I went over to his office, rambling about how I should be able to help him with a program I rarely use and which was written ages ago.
As soon as GDG saw me coming roundbthe corner, he started explaining how the keywords aren't ready yet, since the program to create translations and their keywords won't let him name a translation.
"I can create new translations, but I can't assign a keyword to them."
"Okay, show me what you did", I told him, eager to leave.
He started to type the keyword, which turned out to be huge ass long and immediately I noticed a little counter, like "x/50", directly beneath the text field started to count up with every new character GDG typed. See where I'm going with this? HE WASNT ABLE TO RENAME A TRANSLATION BECAUSE HE WAS TOO LAZY TO FUCKING READ AND CONCENTRATE FOR ONCE. Sorry for that, but even thinking about it gets me angry again.
To some this might sound like nothing, but it really got to me at this point. Maybe it will become more understandable as I post more GDG stories.
tl;dr: A 40 something year old man, who's been working in his job for over 10 years wasn't able to use a program which he daily uses and asks me for help, only to find out he's a complete dipshit.4 -
Are you ready for the only really useful advice on devRant that is not judgmental, simple, and instantly applicable?
Here it goes. If you have hiccups,
1. Inhale your full lungs until you can’t inhale anymore
2. Hold your breath as long as you can
3. Exhale carefully
This will “reboot” your breath cycle, and that conflict between breathing and other things that causes hiccups will go away.
Repeat if needed. Breathe slowly and carefully after you finally exhale.5 -

I am not ready yet.9 -

Sat here at my desk, facing a wall after my desk being moved whilst I was working from home, counting down the days until I resign.
5 Years here and was ready to leave almost 2 years ago but let them convince me to stay around. Now stuck with a 3 month notice.
Built the same homepage 5 times in as many weeks due to constant changes and ready to throw in the towel.
I'm here until Christmas, then I am going it alone. Just not sure how I am going to make it to Christmas without walking out3 -
Being the only dev in charge of the project, makes you the one to be blamed for.
The God saviour, shiny armoured back end developer that joined the "team" (only me) to help into this new project Just Said in a meeting:
- "I wont code anything for this new project, I can't get the point of It"
So every meeting was
- "why feature X is not ready?"
- "I'm waiting the endpoint for It"
- "well, then mock It"
Now I fucking give up.
One month mocking things and "presenting" features that don't even exist. -
We need a new Website for our school TV club. Ok..
I start to make a idea of site and give it to the guy, who said that we need a new site.
He liked the idea.
I started to make site.
*Few hours later*
The site is "ready" (Not fancy af but operates)
I go to the guy who want the site.
He said: "Why do you make the site? I setuped Wordpress for our site."

Kay! Why people think remote job is less then a onsite job? Excuse me? I also work remotely. Okay I get it that onsite you have to go onsite through bus or blah blah , but your hours are not counting by a tracker and not getting SS every 2 min. My family doesn't understand that I have to be on my laptop for at least 7-8 hours.
Their reaction is :" why the food is not ready?"
" I am doing work"
"So what? You are home!"
And WHY LARAVEL COMPOSER UPDATE IS SO DAMN SLOW9 -
We are 2 people working as remote android devs for this startup in another country. 6 weeks ago a new person joined onsite to work directly in startup HQ. I'l refer to him as an newguy.
Last week we started new sprint (of 2 weeks) to work on a new feature.
Newguy was responsible for gathering all the specs and planning, so this is how our sprint is going so far:
Day 1:
We have 10+ tickets in jira (tickets have only titles) no one knows what to do and we don't even have specification. I started pushing everybody onsite to get their shit together. We NEED UX/UI specs, we NEED backend to be ready, or at least start working paralelly so that once wer'e done with frontend backend would be ready. I mean cmon guys this feature is already 70% done on iOS, why cant you send us the specification?
Day 2:
We had a meeting on Zoom and talked about missing specification and project manager promised to send us the specs. Meanwhile the idea of feature became clearer so I agreed with the newguy to start researching about best way to implement our solution.
Day 3:
We received the specifications. I provided my research for the feature to the newguy. Turns out the he knew about specification 4-5 days before.
Instead of sharing information with us, he decided to create his own library to do what we want to do and blatantly rejected my research input.
Now he showed his implementaton (which is shit by the way) and presents it as the only way to proceed forward. He offers for us to work paralelly with him on this (basically he wants to write library alone, and we are supposed to somehow implement and test it, but how the fuck we can implement if backend is not ready and library is just a bunch of empty interfaces at this point?)
I talked with one of the teamleads in the startup and told him that this is not the way things were being done here before and new guy is becoming a dictator.
Teamlead talked with new guy and found no issue. Basically newguy defended his sole decision by saying that he did research on his own, there are no libraries that do what we want and he knows better.
Teamlead tells me to STFU because new guy seems competent and he will be leading this feature. Basically from what I gathered teamlead doesn't give a single fuck and wants to delegate all project management to this new guy.
Day 5:
End of the week. New guy claims that his lib is done so we can start implementing properly. I tried implementing his lib but its fucked up and backend is still not ready.
Day 6:
Backend is still not ready, no one is doing anything just waiting for it to be ready.
Day 7 (Today):
Today(Backend is still not ready, no one is doing anything just waiting for it to be ready.
So what can I say? His plan was to probably prove his self worth and try to lead this feature by giving us information at last minute. At the point were we should start implementing instead of researching.
What happened? Motherfucker doesn't know shit about backend, has been notified about backend issues multiple times but his head was so deep up his ass with that new library of his that he delayed the rest of the team.
Result? 7 working days wasted. Out of 3 developers only 1 was actually working (and his fucked up code will have to be rewritten anyways). Only 50% of feature done. Motherfucker tells me that this is how we will work in the future, "paralelly". The fuck is this mate? If you would have worked on this feature alone you would have done it already now, but instead you wait until we remote devs will login and fetch you the test input and talk with backend guys for you? The fuck is wrong with you.
You fucking piece of shit, learn to plan and organize better if you want to lead the team. Now all that you are doing is wasting time, money and getting on everyboys nerves. Im tired of fucking spoon feeding you every day you needy scheming office politics playing piece of shit. Go back to your shithole country and let us work.
When I was responsible for sprint planning I figured out what to do before start of the sprint and remote devs were able to do week's work in 1-2 days and have rest of the week off. This is how it's supposed to be when you work with a remote team. Delegate them separate features, give them proper specs ahead and everyone's happy. Don't start working on frontend if you dont even fucking know when backend will be ready. It's fucking common sense.
Now I need to spoon feed this motherfucker who can't even get information while sitting on his ass onsite in HQ. Fucking hell.8 -
Worst interview has to be for a web agency where the boss was clearly not ready to take anyone on and almost felt desperate. He got me in for a trial day working on something for their benefit (pretty sure that's illegal) with no direction on what wad to be done other than some hand sketched drawings and access to FTP. They put me on the worst machine possible which kept crashing every 5 mins which an hour in decided to cut the internet and wouldnt come back on so i walked...

Today was successful. I deployed an app to a dev environment that worked perfectly on local. When I asked if it was ready for QA I said "no, there is issues that need attention"
I am now the proud owner of 75 QA emails of things that do not work. Luckily they're all duplicates of the same issue.
Ffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu1 -
We are not ready, I won't sign on this shit I said!

It's Tuesday and shit is still broken!

Me: Could you please provide us with api key so we can add this feature?
Client's IT person: You don't need the api key to develop, their site has documentation so it's not a blocker. I will get you the api key when we are ready to go live.

I just had a new employee, barely out of school, question whether or not we are ready to start a big refactor of an aging legacy system. She knows nothing about the system we are about to attack, barely has 12 months experience as a developer and knows nothing about the past 6 years of countless meetings, discussions and experience leading to the decision to refactor. Still, she's not "convinced" we are ready to get started.
Gen Z - they sure are something different. God damn it, I know it sounds old but where's the fucking humbleness? Spoilt little shits, the world is fucked.7 -
College Senior Thesis is done. Wrote the whole fucker as a Spring Boot Microserivce and my brain is fucking jello after 4 straight months of work.
I need something lightweight, I need something fun to code as I wind down at the end of the year.
I think I'll play around with Node.js and Typescript and learn about this docker thing people keep talking about before I go back to Java exception hell.
I'm not ready to be a Jr Dev next year. I'm too young to work this kind of job for the next 40 years.1 -
"Can we do X?"
Yes, we can do almost anything you want.
"Can we have it ready by last month?"
No.
"What about 2 weeks ago?"
Not feasible.
"Yesterday?"
Sorry I don't think we can.
For real though, how do you deal with unrealistic delivery expectations? I'm not sure if I'm supposed to keep saying no to everything, or if they keep asking in hopes that maybe this time it'll be ok.2 -
Just tell me if the API is ready or not. I can understand if it's not. I just don't like being left out and when the boss asks for an update, I'll get burned for not starting anything yet, all because you guys aren't ready

After leaving my previous employers behind, I think I'm finally ready to write negative reviews about them without getting into a rage.
The policies of glasdoor and similar platforms say to review a company, not individuals. However, as the saying goes, "employees don't quit companies, they quit managers". And that is 100% true for me. The reviews I'd write would in large parts be about how managers mistreat the people they're responsible for. In my case even to the point I needed therapy... so really really bad.
I'm not sure how to bring those two things together. Have you made similar experiences? How would you write such reviews? Thanks for any tips.5 -
My over promising boss is upset that something that used to work doesn't work now because support decided it had to be changed. We took it apart to rebuild it and it's only partially finished right now. Says he can't show it to clients like this. Well no we told you it wouldn't be ready for the deadline you forced upon us, even before the requested changes, but instead of listening you tell us not to argue and just get it done.3
-
Why the fuck these managers can’t understand that you can’t build a full blown system with in a week. After building a demo driven application to show the client you can tell the client we are fucking ready to launch the damn thing . I FUCKING MENTIONED BEFORE GOING TO THE MEETING ITS NOT RELEASE READY GOD DAMN IT.
Now when I say we can’t launch this app we need to fix things . THE FUCKING MANAGER HAS THE GUTS TO SAY “one day is enough to fix the issues right ? Shouldn’t be a big deal for you to fix this” .
Kill me now 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬7 -

Today during a follow-up meeting of the grand project I'm workng on...
TL: ... and I want to start working on the production environment and have it ready by next month.
Me: (interrupts) hold up! We are not ready, we have a huge backlog of technical tasks that need to be addressed and we are still not in possession of the very crucial business and functional requirements that you are supposed to provide. The acceptation environment is just set up on infra perspective but does not have anything running yet! The API we depend on is still not ready because you keep adding change tasks to it. We have a mountain of work to do to even get to a first release to integration yet and there is still the estimations on data loads and systems... your dream will not be possible until at least Q2 of 2024.
TL: stop being so negative @neatnerdprime and try to be more customer friendly. I want it by the end of the next month.
Me: remember what I said to you about moving prematurely. Remember I don't take any responsibility if things break because you rush the project. Please, reconsider!
TL: I just want it, please do it

I think I'm getting burnt out.
I've been constantly exhausted lately, making little to no progress at work. Eve simple tasks that I was able to do months ago are giving me trouble, but I hardly care anymore.
Today, my boss told me he "wanted to see some progress" on one of the projects I'm working on (fair since I've been extremely slow here). Unfortunately I'm just more stressed now which makes it even harder to do anything.
I feel like I'm spiralling. I'm not productive lately so I get stressed about missing deadlines, which stresses me out and makes me less productive...
I'm ready to just quit honestly, but not sure I'd be able to find as good a job anywhere else4 -
Boss: so we've got to call an app to verify data in this project. But I've got no more info and I'm on holiday next week. Please contact GuyA next week.

*1 week later*
GuyA: we need more time it's not ready yet
*2 weeks later?
Me: so?
GuyA: yeah it's ready here's the wsdl etc your client already has the password
*1 week later*
Me: yeah so I got the data but the api says my auth isn't working
GuyB: yeah your user isn't activated on the test system. I'm gonna forward that and come back at you
*1 week later*
GuyA: so we're going live in about 2 weeks hows testing going?
Me: well I'm still waiting for the response and activation
*suddenly it works*
Me: yeah so auth is working but i can't find any data. Is there any special test data?
GuyA: oh no there is NO test data on the test system. You need to wait for GuyB but he us not here today...
Me: are you fking kidding Me?????
... no response since then and it's been days.... -
Does anyone else have that project that they work on in there spare time? Well mine was a Pokemon MMO because I'm not a games developer and found it a really nice challenge/break from normal work. It's almost ready to be played but it's sad that it'll never be released. I mean I could recreate all of the sprites and game mechanics but that wasn't what I originally set out to do.4

Created a simple bot for an online game using puppeteer.
After an evening (and night) of dev and debugging (quite some rejected promise errors), it worked fine and was ready for a 10-minutely cron job.
Fixed a couple bugs in the first three hours. Then started playing minecraft, which lagged like hell.
Opened task manager and saw a list of about 25 headless chrome processes. They had not been closed because of unhandled errors before the close method call 😵
Now added some basic error handling ☺2 -
Well, this is certainly not encouraging. Get ready for LOTS of ads in Chrome and decreased performance.

Seriously though.
Why use Arch. It sounds like headaches.
What is the benefit. Like, I used to have fun with
tweaking systems and so forth, until it became
not so fun when I had to actually do it to make
money, like server admin on my websites.
From the sounds of it, setting it up takes hours, none of the packages are quite ready, it takes google research and troubleshooting for common tasks, etc.
Why not say, Ubuntu, kde? Or whatever.13 -
I have a complex about my nose. I was about to bite the fucking bullet and do something about it. Literally just waiting for the procedure room to be ready, when I kept asking myself wtf I was doing. Then looked at my nose again and realized that it really wasn't that big a deal. Not when compared to dealing with internal bleeding and pain for weeks, plus a painful procedure.
Even after all these years, all these accomplishments, all this experience, I'm still a dumb fuck.
Now then, I'll go put some of the money I didn't waste to good use. Like videogames, hookers, and blow. Probably just the former.5 -
It is 7:46PM...
I started debugging at 10:30AM...
.Net native making my app crash at startup... even before the logger can write anything...
Just now, I find out it is because of a 3rd party lib...
"Going crazy" can't even begin to describe today...
I really didn't need this shit today... just not today... -
Got back at work after 2 weeks off
Useless to say I did not remember what to do or where to start…
Today I was working on a feature and while thinking about code organization I found an empty function ready to be filled with the exact name I was about to type.
My 2 weeks ago self prepared it for me… it was so kind of him -
My team and I are working on a huge project that's been in development for years.
First deadline was in the fall last year. We were never going to make that.
Then we were supposed to be ready just after the summer holidays (months ago). We didn't make that either.
Then we were supposed to launch last week. Didn't happen, still too many critical errors and unfinished, untested features.
Now we are having daily meetings to discuss whether we'll be ready to release... that day!
Meanwhile, stability issues and other critical errors keep popping up. The product is barely finished and has not been through rigorous testing with all the latest features and bug fixes. Not to mention that we don't really have a deployment pipeline either.
And here's the kicker: The customers don't know this is coming. It's highly anticipated, but only internally. It is a replacement for an existing product, which strives towards not changing the frontend too much.
Why do we rush it so? I get that a deadline can help motivate you to reach your goal, but how motivated will we be if the launch fails and we get buried in bugs and missing features?
Would it not be better to launch it with at least the confidence of knowing that we've tried to test it properly?9 -
Fuck you apache server...
Why did your dumb ass developers decide it was a good idea to not support "expect 100 continue headers". I seriously suspect that the devs were high smoking dragon dildo ashes like they were getting ready to get a whole chair shoved up their asses.
I wasted alot of time thinking i was getting a 417 http code because i fucked up my API implementation... No, it was the dumb apache server that decided to give me the finger.
Also, whoever built the HttpClient for .net framework 4... Fuck you too for automatically adding that dumb header to PUT requests and not properly documenting this or allowing for it to be disabled in a non hacky way.
I appreciate and enjoy solving coding problems... I, however, can't stand dumb decisions like the two above. -
After 30 minutes of trying to figure out why a guid is empty, I realize it's because it is initialized, but not assigned.
I'm not ready for Monday. -
Support asked me to help. Issue at customer side I don't realy care about (Not reproducable)
She told me to wait 3 minutes.
Since 10 minutes I'm waiting for her to be ready and reading meanwhile on devrant. Great Workingtime 👍 -
I have severe OCD. What I do and what I make should be perfect. When I went to being a teacher as a side hustle, two days a week, three hours a day, nothing serious, my brain was like "teaching is a noble mission, Janusz Korczak was a teacher, and he dropped that Teacher Banner when he stepped into a nazi gas chamber to not let his students die alone, and now you are the one who caught that banner, and now you are carrying it, and you must not bring the shame to it", then I wasn't sleeping because for every class I SHOULD be READY, everything should be checked and prepared, there should be not a single case of me not knowing the answer for anything students ask, let alone being late1
-
I finally get the go ahead to push an update to a client site into production. Client then sends out marketing email about changes later that afternoon. The next day the client decides they are not ready to start fulfilling orders from one of the new products I added. Now I have to rush a change to remove the product links from the site.2

I started working for myself in January, and work has been few and far between.
I’ve always wanted to work for myself, and now I’m working on a product I’m actually going to sell *gulp*
It’s not ready yet, but I’ll definitely be posting here about it when it’s ready to go :D
It’s going to be a super simple (Windows to start) screenshotting tool (and relevant cloud services) primarily focussed on devs / IT professionals and their needs.
Sound off for feature requests 👍4 -
Fucken clock stretching.... seriously ... if you’re gonna clock stretch me for any more than 3ms (which is still pushing it) just fucken NACK me so I know your not ready god damn.... it’s fucken i2c .... stop with the application i2c bullshit... I just want to read the fucken registers stop abstracting it put it on a god damn DMA..
clock stretching is why we can’t have nice things lol12 -
Someone : this is not critical, if you have more important task or deadlines, prioritize it first.
Me : doing my more important task/deadlines
Someone, chatting me every hour : Is it ready? I need to submit it ASAP!!!!
What a pain in the ass!!!! -
When you started your first programming job was it easier or harder than you pictured because I feel like I'm no where near ready (although I'm not out of high school just yet so I have time to prepare but still)3
-
Boss tells me every other week to "set focus" on a completely different topic without loosing a word on the "top priority" the day before. Or he asks for the other (not finished) feature to be ready "in the next few" days/hours.
Yeah. A real sunbeam in dark times.1 -
Rant
I was given a project to lead and develop with 2 other team members by the co-founder, I was told that I will need to deliver an initial demo within 30 days, 20 days in the project and I was told yesterday that they need a final release ready within the next 10 days !! Not just that but the co founder decided to assign one of my team members to another project!!!
I've worked today till 4am.
Guess who's working from home in the morning!6 -
So ya its almost mid April, deadline is end of April and 20% of APIs are not yet ready and mobile app has barely 50% of pages done.
This is going to be a fun project to work on, I was asked to join the team couple of weeks ago
What is even more funny I still have no clue what this project does, I'm just creating UI based on what the designer (that started a month ago) delivered just a week ago -- Three weeks before final deadline -
The few times i have pushed code to the repo when it's not ready.
Granted it was so i can carry on working on it elsewhere but it wasn't my proudest moment.4 -
Lead Dev: Release what you have today for testing.
Me: It's not finished?
Lead Dev: Release it for testing anyway.
PM: Don't release until it's ready but it has to be ready by Monday.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place come to mind...1 -
Merry fucking new year.
I hope you find love in 2018. I see a lot of you wanting to find a significant other. Just know that out there are so many others that want the same. Just be ready to not only want love, but give it. Also, make sure your significant other also gives and is not like many just wanting to be loved.
And stay away from CSS. That shit's shitty shit.9 -
Just did my interview with Turing & OMG!
2 questions, total of 30 mins to answer both questions, and there's a dude with access to your screen, camera & microphone watching your every move.
Went horribly. Utter failure. Not expecting to hear back from them.
Questions weren't related to the skills I said I had. They were general questions that could be answered in any language. I honestly wasn't ready to write code to split an array of numbers into 3 equal parts whose values when added would equal.
FML. Fuck this shit. I'm tired of all the bullshit (mine included)!12 -
Hey fellow devRanters,
I'm sure some of you have read about the newest vulnerabilities in Intels Management Engine (ME). I feel like ME and similar "features" are unacceptable backdoors into our systems. Unfortunately Intel and AMD do not offer their customers the option to acquire CPUs that lack these backdoors and make disabling them rather impossible 😒
Thus my question: Do you guys know of any 64-bit "open-source" CPU on the market that is production-ready and suitable for high-traffic web applications? Please note that I don't consider FPGAs to be viable options, since I don't trust Xilinx and Altera either.15 -
I know I ranted about this before but...
FHEGYOQOBGMLAEBFOEBFKHIOQMBEVCOFARQIJSABUEVEUANGIWN
Dumbass me thought "I know it's fucked up in the past but give it another chance". My google home decided to delete all of my alarms. It will not be getting another chance.
I woke up 3 hours later than expected on a normally smooth day and now I going to be late to class and I'm anything but calm.
I'm about ready to frisbee this shit out my window. -
Co-worker asked for a call and then when I replied "you can call when ready :) " the reply back is an all caps "IN A MIN"
I'm not the one asking for the call and I'm also not rushing you to have one.
To me all caps means shouting and it puzzles me because while typing it the other person can see it and previous that they aren't using all caps. Why continue using all caps if you aren't angry? 🤷
How do you interpret all caps in a work chat conversation? -
To solve an issue of slow data retrieval on an app, I suggested pre-loading the data once a week and storing it in a spreadsheet ready for instant download.
"Great idea. If more data gets added to the database after we download the data, will the spreadsheet we downloaded also update?"
Seriously, I understand that not everybody is technical but fuck me how do you expect us to update a file on your computer? -
How the hell do I understand want people want???
I listen to them, I pay attention to them (for the most part), but for the most part when someone assigns me something but it is not clearly explained, they expect me know what to do.
I had the most unproductive meeting with this guy I work for because of this... he had a problem, so we worked on ideas for this solution, and I thought I knew exactly what he wanted. We were getting somewhere. I get ready to leave for lunch and it turns out that is not at all what he wanted. We're back to square one.
Is it me, or are people really bad at explaining things?5 -
"No merge conflicts, ready to commit."
Such sweet words from TortoiseHg, and it's not even valentine's day! -
Sick of fucking working with 'engineers' who cannot see that the piece of shit application that they have written is not 'done' until it has been tested. No it is not production fucking ready you fucking yes man.

Worst experience with a manager was with this project manager at my first job.
One day the other developers and I were staying back a little late to try to make some progress. The manager offered to go out to get food for us. It must have been two hours later when we realized he was not back. We were ready to go home and starting to get hungry. We called him and he said he got caught up but was on his way back and would be there soon. It was more than an hour later when he arrived with the food. I quit that job shortly after. -
We're quite keen on you so we'll definitely call you...
That call never came so I made a follow up and I got a considering the current size of the company we not quite ready to have another dev -
Oh thanks Windows. I wasn't working. And that Windows 10 upgrade I very specifically confirmed as cancelled ... yeah, go ahead and start that installation with no warning, while I'm working, sitting at a Starbucks that will eventually close and cutoff my ready access to power on a device with limited battery life, probably before you finish the update.
I don't mind sitting here twiddling my thumbs while you do your thing ...
Not that I didn't plan to upgrade, I actually like Windows 10 ... but it wasn't on the agenda for this particular moment.

quote when asking what cleints budget is for a job....
"ah yeh hence the when your ready but it wont be paid at the start but should it pick up the will be some form of payment avalible to you"
needless to say this is the same client who is the original meeting states "wait so why is this costing me loads for a custom website can we not give me the rates for if this is a project im working in the side"
well only if im allowed to treat it as something that wont get done.2 -
Trying to setup a staging server boss says just use AWS, system admin doesn't like that thought because it doesn't involve him so waited all day for 3 VM's and still not ready... All I need is 3 blank CoreOS VMs nothing fancy like even doing the cloud config no. Anyone else has colleagues scared of moving out of the private high maintenance servers in the basement?6

So I wanted a newer Linux OS for doing certain things at work. I went for Kubuntu 21.04 as it would have reasonably newer software and had the tools I needed for managing exfat partitions. I installed it on a second drive and everything went smoothly. I booted to the OS and it said it needed to do updates. Okay, lets do that. I started them and walked away.
I came back later and it had finished. I rebooted the machine because I needed to run windows. It came up to a prompt and a grub command line. WTF. I am like oh fuck, it didn't just fuck me out of my windows install. So I rebooted into the BIOS. I looked and it now had switched the drive I installed Linux on as the boot drive. That is weird. So I switched the M.2 drive to boot. It went right into Windows.
Kubuntu 21.04 installed on second drive as intended, switched the boot drive to the second drive, and then fucked itself on first update. And people wonder why non-techies don't run Linux. Its a pile of shit only a masochist would love. Because we are the only ones who can possibly sort out shit like this.
I know its probably a webpage away from fixing, but I needed to work in windows and could not be fucked to fix it. Its a distraction to actually getting my work done. Just disappointed in the entire ecosystem.8 -
For fuck sake why can't people implement instant payment charges when you order something and not when it gets shipped!
Ordered a board game for about $150 AUD about 3 months ago and my batch was just finished so I just got charged... It's not like a have a fucking trip to Melbourne with some mates this weekend .-.
It can't be that hard guys, charge people when they order and not when it's ready -.-10 -
I'm surprised how well Dell laptops are made. I'm using 2011 Dell Latitude E6320 and it really works like more modern models. Of course it would be lovely if I had new XPS 15, but it's really not bad for this budget. It just needs SSD drive and it's ready to roll.8

Not drunk, still underage. I can share a wonderful story from when my wisdom teeth were pulled. My mom made me agree to not work on anything, especially code, when I came home. However, I had an awesome CPU architecture design project, and I was ready to make a few example programs in the assembly language. When I woke up the next morning with a clearer mind, I looked at the code again. ^A , ^X. Mom said "I told you so."

Learn Rust and Elixir because of my hopefully new and exciting role. I want to become production ready developer for these languages as quickly as possible. But more than anything I want my new role not making me hate my profession.
And also I would like to start a long duration relationship. Can’t have it all though.3 -
Finally managed to get my website up and running after a week of going back and forth with Hostgator. I'm really excited about it even though I know it's not quite ready and needs more work.
Even so, please have a look and tell me what you think :)

Developed an update to our database procedures and tested it with local copy. After a few days everything was ready. Opened our server and started the update. After a couple of rows an error occurred. Turns out our production db is older version and does not support some syntax I used. It became a bit longer day at work...
-
Ok so today marks one week of harrassing our client to deploy.
Finally she calls in today after agreeing to deploying tonight, and says "oh no! We tested it today, it's not ready, and we'll need this functionality on the backend tomorrow, thanks!"
So, because we don't really have a choice, we must dev a new functionality + API + interface for tomorrow.morning (it's 9PM right now) -
Rejection 5 / 1000 of my 1000 job applications TikTok journey
I have rejection 6 ready but cant post more than 1 image at a time on devrant. Rejection 6 is the same company from rejection 4! They fucking rejected me TWICE. Because i asked them to tell ME out of ALL the positions they have available -- NOT A SINGLE ONE FITS MY PROFILE. DO THEY NOT CARE THAT I HAVE A COMPUTER SCIENCE DEGREE????????????????21 -
I told PM that a feature is only ready on Thursday. He goes and tells Tuesday to the business owner. Comes to me and says make it happen. Nope, sorry. Not going to happen.
Non-tech people should not make commitments. I long for the day their jobs become obsolete. -
Clearly automated vehicles are not ready for India. As a human I can say the person is trying to explain the no parking sign through words. Systems have to be trained to judge these too :O5
-
So I have never done 'real' development on anything bar my current game engine Virgil, however found myself referring to C documentation for GLib and SDL2 rather than valadoc documentation.
Decided fuck it, I'm already converting everything to Vala's pointer syntax so I can have manual memory control, implementing stb_image and contemplating reworking SDL2_image into raw C so I'm not depending on extra libraries... Why do all this when I can just learn C and have more control.
Everything was going well and decided to buy the C programming language book, already knew about pointers and structs but ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boi was I not ready for malloc .-.7 -
Note to devs here. Please don't choose a framework for the hype at your work. Use it on your own time or company hackaton/learning time.
I'm looking at you angular.
Production ready doesn't mean sanity ready.
Now because some dev choose such technology for arbitrary reasons. (hype, latest acronym on CV). I spend more time debugging and understanding than I would if some simpler technology was chosen. Look at all the options then choose the simplest one that has and seems to have active maintenance. Zen of python is the best thing to happen in programming and I think everyone, even if you don't like Python should follow it. Save you and your colleagues brain time and ask for advice.
Also IMO react is probably third or second best option, higher if one requirement is to be react native. Angular is even lower because it's complexity is unforgivable when a dev has not enough front-end experience.8 -
Started a side project.
Learnt flutter and firebase.
Started coding app.
Four months pass by.
App is mostly ready.
Wakes up on Saturday morning.
Updates Android Studio and SDK because, why not?
Build failed!
Dependency depreciation warnings!
Java errors!
Firebase errors!
Emulator stopped running!
Wify is angry with me as we planned shopping but now this. Fortunately, she's also in IT, so she understands..
FML! Spent the entire day stackoverflowing and fixing errors!
8PM evening, I am back to Friday's status. My shoulder and neck hurts but my mind is chilled.6 -
A top food chain client wants a feature Fx
and has a deadline on Friday.
We are still working on it and already estimated hours and set deployment on Monday.
(No deployments on Friday)
And the business/sales guy comes up with new deadline to submit it at Friday morning.
And was only discussing with one of my team member already working on it. And i knew there is more hours required for testing and need to deployment pre deployment phase (staging of dev)
I was over hearing the conversation between them and I got pissed off and jumped in and said Not Possible at all.
He tries to argues about giving something to him. I said we can give it to you but will not garauntee anything. Now project manager jumps in. PM and my team already know that we will be delivering on Monday.
He arguing that if the Fx is not ready then I will call client developer to office to test it directly on my team members laptop.
I said, No way. We are not ready yet and havent finished yet. Major work will be on Thursday and on Friday we will be testing till end of the day.
PM explains him blah blah stuff.
He calms down and says no worries we will check the status on Friday afternoon amd roll out something to Client.
PM, developer and I looked each other and I said, sure will deploy but will not garauntee anything. He goes back to his desk.
Seriously.
WE ALREADY ESTIMATED F* MAN HOURS AND WILL BE READY ON MONDAY MEANS MONDAY DONT F* BUILD MORE PRESSURE ON US. F* SALES2 -
Just finished setting up my new mobile workstation (not a desktop killer unfortunately).
Have i3 booted on a chroot and configured and ready to get cracking for the night :D3 -
So I was studying the Material Design skeleton component
https://material-ui.com/components/...
you know, like when YouTube shows grey boxes while the content is loading to let the reader know that there will be something there at some point.
But I keep waiting for it to load! My brain just assumes that the content is not ready yet so I wait but I'm the one who put it there in the first place! I'm supposed to be the one manipulating the user with intuitive UI, not the UI manipulating me!2 -
So exams are coming up and I’m not even ready at all :,,) I Need and want to study But At the same time i want to draw and animate. When i think about these two stuff my brain becomes soggy and very slow so in the end I don’t do anything and it’s bad :,,) I really suck at planning stuff out, do you all have any good schedules that work? :DD3
-
Couple of advices from the QA guy
1) Don’t do the bare minimum bc the PM asks that. The people that write up the tasks/requirements don’t know their shit sometimes. Or even worse, they just copy paste what the client asked.
2) Confront the PM and ask more time to build something robust and scalable. When shit don’t work, people will blame the devs which is not fair. Is not easy but put your foot down when you’ve being asked to build shitty stuff bc the client want it ready now. -
finally picking up React JS. When setting up webpack I fucked up on the last step in the tutorial I was using which wasn't even needed it just made requiring CSS modules not need style!CSS! Infront of the file name.. everything prior was working beautifully and I was ready to start setting up React. after attempting to be more efficient I couldn't even get webpack to run and thus the test project failed to run on local host. Now to re watch bad tutorials that assume you know everything because they're still more detailed than the others I've found. :| ugh

Do you ever procrastinate getting into a project, at any phase, starting, mid code updates, etc,,, knowing it is not only going to take you time to get your head back into it, but you also know that once you do, and hopefully yes you get into a groove, that it requires a mental time commitment... that last word, commitment, I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to get into, commit to just yet, so, I start procrastinating by doing a whole list of small stuff I need to finish first, because god knows when I get into this thing, I won't be able to jump out and do anything else easily... and then let's say all that goes well,,, small stuff done, I've procrastinated long enough, now I'm ready to drive in, OK, here we go, 5 minutes of reacclimating myself, and someone walks in, wants my attention, which I can't give them, I've already started down this slippery slope... and somehow I come off rude if I don't acknowledge them....aaaggghhh...!4
-
After waiting a while for another programmer on another team to provide a web service that I needed to call from a client side web form, I received word that it was ready. I could not get it to work because CORS headings were not being set correctly. After contacting them and letting them know, I got an email update to the team letting everyone know that they were waiting on me. After explaining that CORS headings were not there, I just built a PHP page to proxy the request, results and set the headers correctly so I can move on. I will remove it when they get their side fixed... if they ever do.

I have no burnouts. I dont have kids, I'm full of energy, I'm ready to crush it. BUT every goddamn time i come to a company they run out of work/clients/projects. I end up doing nothing or some video tuts, and then change the company. I WANNA WORK! GIVE ME SOME REACT WORK, PLEASE! I WANNA FEEL DEADLINE PRESSURE! I WANNA COMPLAIN THAT I HAVE BURNOUT! I'M TIRED OF VIDEO COURSES AND TO-DO APPS!
I'm paid money to do nothing. As appealing as it sounds, it's not when you're a junior dev trying to get some experience.
Am I doing something wrong??? -
Client: when can we go in production, we want x and y
Boss: 13/12
Absolute Silence
Today 8/12
Boss: how long will it take for bringing this in production on 13/12?
Me: I'll do my best to get it ready on time
Boss: Why will it take 2 workdays?
Me: because client asks x and y
Boss: so?
Me: x and y is not ready
Boss: x and y can' t take two days, it must be ready now
Me: You said 13/12?
Boss: client wants to test before production
Me: ... 😡
Where did things go wrong here?7 -

I hate weekly demos. Why not wait until something is done and ready to show, and then schedule a show an tell?
Otherwise you're just racing around to get some half-ass, not working rubbish in to make things look good. Yet it probably doesn't work at all, and is filled with technical debt that will make it to production.4 -
Demo driven development.
Fucking nightmare.
Did a simple search for TODO Statements in the code and almost fucking spilt my coffee.
And the best part, they will demo most of this in Sprint review as done.. WTF.
Done means "Ready to Release" not "Ready to Demo".2 -
I started writing a rant and then, when I was almost ready, accidentally clicked somewhere outside the text window, not even close to the exit button, and my rant disappeared into the void without a warning. Well thank you very much! :(9

FFS! having nodejs server on heroku, added certificate successfully for https, yet when going to www.example.com it uses http on prod and maintanence page while example.com goes to https.
All my attempts to catch http connection failed.
This is the definition of me wanting to bang my keyboard and problem autosolves itself while I am doing it!
Where is the my one click and everything is ready. I want to code back end and front end not spend 2 days trying to figure out https bullshit for unknown reason. -
There is a serious possibility that our team will need to deploy into prod on a Friday because of a regulatory deadline and 3rd parties not being ready.
God help us -
When I will be ready to be transitioned to a promoted developer.
I have been with a company for 2.5 years and nit much development from it. As the review processes are nothing and we are all doing whatever we could and deploying everything to prod.
Now I have changed my company and been a level 1 developer. It's still an entry level role.
I am working towards my promotion but still the as a growth team I am not getting enough chances to work on something good. My design skills are still not good.
What should I do? I have been in this role for a year now. If I want to transition any other company will offer me a level 2 developer role. Should I go into applying for jobs for level 2 when I know that I am not enough? I am afraid that of I waited in my current company I will be stuck for 2 more years here. -
It's too early to be asking these questions today:
Are your DB schema changes checked into source control?
What branch are they checked into?
Why are the schema changes checked into one branch, but deployed to a completely different database?
Is my CI pipeline deploying incorrectly? Oh, you manually deployed changes.
Are your DB changes in source control an accurate reflection of what you actually put in the staging database?
Why not?
Can I just cherry-pick update my schema with your changes from the staging database?
Why is there a typo in your field name?
Oh. Why is there a typo in the customer data set? Don't they know how to spell that word?
Why is the fucking staging database schema missing three critical tables?
Is the coffee ready? I need coffee.
Why is the coffee not ready yet?
What's going on in DevRant this morning?
What project am I working on now anyway?
Did my schema update finish yet?
Yup, it finished. Crap. Where the hell do I keep those backup files?
What's the command line to restore the file again?
Why doesn't our CLI tool support automated database restores?
I can fix that. What branch name should I check the CLI tool into?
What project was I working on this morning again?1 -
So after having a rather shit day at work I notice that my phone (samsung s7 edge) is at 50% and indecide to fast charge it...then i notice it "Fast charging, 55 minutes till ready" great....fucking....great. please don't tell me that the battery is fuckd up...i really do not need this

Gotta love the client forced deployments, making the team work all weekend. Having the push to live at 9pm at night and then with 10 minutes left cancelling the whole thing. With a lovely "good job but we are not ready yet"

There once was a sysadmin, Eddie,
Who could strip, touch and finger real steady.
But when it came to the mount,
(From his sweetheart's account),
It was always "Device is not ready".
do anyone have any more such poems/limericks?3 -
Spotify for beginners: Do not jump back to the previous song, do not skip more than six songs per hour, switch to private at every start, do not take a look at the songs in your current playlist, get ready being spammed with premium "offers" (unlock user experience for cash) and enjoy the shitty user experience. But hey, atleast the user interface is beautiful.
Spotify is like "Insta-Babes". "Beautiful" but trash.5 -
Back on Android after 3 and a half miserable years on iPhone. I haven't cursed this thing once primarily because the typing experience is immediately far far far far more pleasant.
Oh, and if you do decide to switch, which I recommend, be ready not to receive texts from iPhone users for about 24 hours after you perform the deregistration ceremony. That is a level of evil I wasn't expecting and truly should be illegal.5 -
Sent this to a coworker. He said don't share it with other people in the company; they are not ready.

I've seen posts about Manjaro quite a lot recently. Just wondering:
How many of us are using Manjaro as daily usage system. And why not other?
For me it is because it connects ease of use of Ubuntu (or even Win) with possibilities of Arch. And I always liked KDE. Plus it works out of the box, with Nvidia drivers ready and stuff.question operating system os manjaro kde 😍 distro kde ubuntu linux manjaro system kde plasma linuxxx2 -
Sometimes as an intern I legitimately have no work to do and I feel awful about it. Sitting here twiddling my thumbs makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong. You can only ask for work so much... Trying to find things on our backlog to work on but they're all unfinished/not ready or too verbose / require too much for me to take on.
Mmmmehhhh I don't know what to dooooo3 -
I feel like time is short.
Things about to get real.
Make sure essentials are stocked.
Stay away from DC.
Get right with whatever you believe in.
Help your neighbor.
I don't have a magic ball.
I don't know if things will be good or bad.
But change is upon on.
Ready or not.
I pray to God he forgives us.
I wish the hardest thing in life was writing code.
I wish the world I was taught about when I was young was the real world.
Maybe if things go well it could be.
Look up, pray, and realize you are not alone.
I shall not fear the dark of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day.
Cheers!2 -
Should I learn Angular 2 or Vue 2?
Not asking which one is better, but which one suits my need better:
I want to move from PHP to nodejs frameworks; I know Vue cause it's famous in the Laravel community, but don't know about the node/js community. I heard Angular 2 is hard, but I'm changing my dev stack so might as invest some time in it. So which one should I pick?
Also, what's a good nodejs framework for starters (who aim to build production-ready apps) (also, not planning on doing mobile apps so no need for cross platform js frameworks).
Thanks in advance12 -
One feature I had added to an app where it put the photos of developers in a circular frame. Apparently it used some library to do the task and when the app was ready to launch, there was an error.
Yes you guessed it right. It was my feature that was not only silly but also erroneous1 -
Is it so much to ask to feel appreciated and secure at a job if you make sacrifices and endure ridiculous stress of ownership and responsibility?
Why do I have to constantly go through life wondering if my name is going to be a top level item on a budget sheet ready for the cut ? And then I’m not supposed to be upset
Just work to the end like a good little monkey and HOPE I Have another job on its way1 -
Had to factory reset my phone as I added a pattern password. I used that password all day and right I as am getting ready for bed, I FORGET IT!! Stupid me did not put on USB debugging and I am like... Seriously!!1

I have to build a webapp in a month that parses through PDFs and inputs data into the right places for at least 3 different PDF documents. We would have had more time but so many delays in the class has led to this shit show being accelerated. I'm not ready.4

Have any other nexus 6P users experienced battery and performance issues when upgrading to android O?
I love this phone and I'm not ready to admit it may be on its way out.... Denial is bliss sometimes4 -
Who I hate:
People who put their tasks to ready for (integration) test without even once running it against real services and the actual database instead just the mocks of the unit tests.
=> I want to test business logic, not fix your internal server errors... -
Guys i need your opinion on this issue I've been working in a startup for almost a year now.. the product we are building is pretty awesome.. the only issue is the non technical managers are giving unrealistic deadlines to the clients and we the development team guys are under a lot of stress.. they are not ready to give us a raise as we have not come out beta yet.. should I stay or quit?6

When a designer walks into your office and asks you to turn on a feature that is not ready for production...1
-
- Dealing only with your own code
- Having enough time to improve and refactor your code whenever you want
- Bug reports are detailed af and not just like "doesn't work"
- Choosing the IDE (and OS maybe, too) by yourself
- Having enough time for bugfixes, implementations
- Software is ready, when you want it, not anyone else.
- Visiting trainings or seminars to improve your skills whenever you want
Yeah, that would be pretty awesome.3 -
Oh noooo! During the last retrospectives we, as a team, decided to not refactor things to make it nicer, better or even more loosely coupled, as existing mechanisms are working properly and as such the refactoring is not absolutely necessary. But now someone in our team suggests to refactor something that is ready for deployment. Just because it will make the code better and more maintainable. Yay! Lets add another 2 days of work just to refactor out 3 lines of code.

Test the project pre-release -> everything works well
Release the project -> new bugs comes out, features are not working anymore, some files are corrupted, your PC is ready to explode and a black hole is going to destroy everything1 -

How will you feel if you are just a 5 yr old ambitious child walking near the border, dreaming on to become a brave soldier someday when suddenly
You press the wrong buttons and now you are in war, a 5 year old boy shooting from guns!?
I did something like that, by accidentally clicking on a test i was not ready for 😣😣 -
Usually I come here to rant but this time I want to appreciate a technology which many programmers loves to hate: the old .NET Framework.
It may not be the most cutting edge or performat technology but it makes dealing with legacy code such a breeze.
I had to work on an old .NET Framework 4.5 project and all I had to do was opening the .sln with Visual Studio and I was ready to go, in the meantime Node.js projects unmaintained for few years easily succumbs to missing packages and breaking changes making maintenance a PITA.2 -
Me: OK (I have a test on a couple days from now, I have to study)/(it's 3am I have to get up at 9am - I try to have a good sleep schedule OK)/(I need to get up and get ready to go to uni)/(some other thing I should be doing). I'm just gonna check devRant real quick.

I'm not sure whats saddest that'll likely be doing gdpr for another two months. Or that the pm thinks we'll be ready by the deadline.3

Experience with Plasma Mobile:
After an hour of confusion and bash file trolling (as in scrolling through a bash file, not trolling someone with a script), I ended up needing to reinstall Lineage OS on my phone.
While it's a new and seemingly exciting expanse for modern Linux and Android phones, it's very obviously not ready yet.
Even after fixing some bugs within the bash file, my phone seemed to have a mind of its own; prematurely attempting to boot into the OS during a critical part of the setup. Even after finishing the setup correctly, my phone never actually boots into the system.
While I like the concept behind Plasma Mobile, it does still have a ways to go. But I have some hopes that the project will start getting bigger and better as the time goes on.undefined looks like gf is sticking with whatsapp it's a shame really bug fixer just need to figure out github cli now1 -

A: our WordPress website that use heavily Facebook APIs is not working anymore because of the privacy changes

A: I didn't found your bank account for the payment but we are ready to do that fix. And we have also a new feature request. -
Being at college and unemployed
Things are going great, learned much and thinking I'm ready to work.
First job
WebDev, minimum wage, still at college but not learning so much because of time.
Quit because I didn't receive two paychecks out of three months I worked there.
Second job
working with banks, java but only old editions 6 and down, mostly maintaining lots of old code. Three months contract is expiring, I have student debt and really don't want to work here but it seems to me I don't have a different option5 -
Sleeps at 4AM

Turns out that one VM responsible for hosting our internal websites was on that machine -

That part where some business people walk to your office expect you to listen them at once despite being really focussed.

He: "wanna see?"
me: "not rly, cus you ain't gonna be using any of them for a looong time"1 -
No... changing the design that was ready 3 months ago, a week before release is not a big deal and yes we should add more complex features while we’re at it. Please tell about all your great ideas I should implement :-/

A web dev newsletter that's targeted at "advanced beginners" (people who are done with FCC/Codeacademy etc courses and have nowhere else to go). It's ready and stuff but there's just not enough motivation to keep at it consistently 😂

At this point I'm not sure whether I'm too slow or the deadlines are too tight
People keep asking me for new estimates but I feel like those only serve the purpose of putting pressure on me and pointing fingers at me later when I blow them. It's not like I know when this feature will be ready. New problems crop up as I progress, and people are like "this should have released yesterday". I didn't slept yesterday and neither did I get to enjoy the weekend before that because I tried to make progress in this even though I couldn't bring myself to work in the weekend after all. I feel like I might even lose this job, and I don't have any recruiters spamming me on LinkedIn or a lot of reserve money to last while I look for something else afterwards. Sucks ass to feel incompetent (and quite possibly be, but I hope not). I guess I just have to keep on keeping on.1 -

6 weeks of doing nothing except dealing with nightmares from the past in my mind I think I left all that crap behind and I am ready to jump back.
I don’t feel much anger and disappointment anymore, even some excitement for new crap to come by on my desk.
I started to write some code and practice puzzles for getting some decent job or project (again)
Puzzles are usually not a problem but I fail with HR.
When they’re asking me stupid questions I answer with stupid answers to piss them off.
But now time to get some money so I’d try to be gentle. -
After ten reinstallation, finally ready my first Virtual Machine fully operative with FreeBSD.
An OS full of surprise for a Arch-fag like me.
It's just like Arch, but without complicated simple things. Even if the raw system don't have anything on, in ten minutes is a fully operative system with even a configurated Desktop Enviroment.
The malus: driver. Not every machine can be the host for FreeBSD, for example AMD GPU can't send audio channel throw the hdmi port.
Personally i love the BSD License, so i think this OS will be my permanent one after Windows 101 -
I think I'm ready for freelancer work
but I'm not sure how this will effect my life
I want to do this for extra bucks, and eventual freedom -

So yeah, kind of had to figure out the semi-hard way that Yew really isn’t prod ready yet (as they clearly state somewhere). Too bad. Or maybe because I don’t have the experience in Rust to overcome some of the issues I’ve had... so it’s back to plan B, id est Vue with TS. At least I got much of the thinking work done already, so I could just write the damn code - and the stuff I had problems with in Yew were all simple for me in Vue.
Or that would’ve been the case if I hadn’t decided to use the newer composition API instead of the options API already familiar to me. Damn it took me all day to wrap my head around it and I’m sure there’s much more head-wrapping to be done. Still, I’m likely done with this at least 2-3 weeks before the deadline, so I can maybe spend the some time figuring out the Yew implementation, too... not sure why, but maybe it ends up better?1 -
I am a graduate student having a hard time finding an internship. I wasn't ready while the big companies were hiring for interns. 200 leetcode questions later I am confident I can crack an interview and now nobody wants to hire.
Most of the reject letters are pretty messed up stating that they have "found more talented individual" or "found a better candidate".
Applied to almost 200 companies, not one reply. :( Hope this doesn't happen during full-time job search.
I was rotting in my room practicing for the interviews and applying for the last two months during this winter break. Hope I don't sit idle during my summer break. :(4 -
I wasted fukcing 30 minutes to find out the right editor for plantuml on os x. I do not like atom because it eats up memory, and brackets was not ready to install plantuml extension. in the end, I used atoms to finish a five minute job. #FML
It seems, mostly we waste our time in deciding which weapon to use !!! Any one who faced the same issues ???2 -
Hey there, I've never really done anything like this but I'm in the second year of college.
I really want to go into the security area, not completely sure but pretty inclined to pentesting.
The question is, what, in your opinion, do you think is a good starting point so I'm pretty much ready to start working when I finish my 5 year course? My college doesn't have any or many security classes, so I'll have to do it all by myself.
Right now I know java, C and html, css and Javascript, which I'm learning by myself.5 -
About to get dicked on by finals tomorrow. I am 100 percent not ready for this. Thinking about bribing the teachers...1

Last 2 days I've been reading a crash log about a bug that no one can fix and was left to me.

Ready to tell my superior to GFY but that might not be a good idea.
Let's see if I can ditch this but tomorrow -
I'm in my 4th week of a coding bootcamp. I left last nights class in tears and ready to give up. We were barely introduced to JavaScript last week and this week we're on jQuery, not to mention, I'm supposed to have mastered HTML and CSS by now. I don't understand SO MUCH of this!!! Every YouTube, CodeAcademy, TeamTreehouse, etc. video is DIFFERENT!!! No time for this, I have to make a hangman game by Saturday!!!2

Working along side another consultant house for a client, we have our shit ready weeks ago for integration testing (as was the deadline) against the other guys. We tell them we are ready, but we need them to be ready too, there are some tricky format things and we basically let them spec it out since they integrate further down the line.
They come _NOW_ way over deadline with change requests in message formats, like MOTHERFUCKER, IM ON MY WEEKEND NOW. We KNEW the client wanted it ready next week, thats why we were ready in time. You are not gonna cost me my weekend.
(is what i wanted to say, the devs on the other team are super nice and just absolutely overloaded with work which i cannot help them with)
One thing is certain, tonight my internet access mysteriously dissappears and wont open until monday morning. Such a shame -

Most of the few whiners complain about monopolies in capitalism! I say monopoly only happen due to government involvement.
Want to talk about real monopolies? Look at the few pharmaceutical vaccine companies (pfizer, moderna), government are only allowing to be used via coercion against some of their citizens' choice. All taxpayer funded, whether you like it or not.
That is pure statism and coerced monopoly. Not other BS monopoly examples you present because you are incompetent. Get ready for booster shots while pfizer CEO's laugh all the way to the bank.13 -

I (frontend) was given 2 weeks to develop a new feature of the app. Almost after the end of 1 week, backend guy was finished with his code , with still bugs pending. Since backend wasn't ready for most part of the development process, I was working on my part, basically creating functionality and created views using the UI guys wireframes.
Now, we were on a time crunch , I didn't got enough time to improve the wireframes or to work with the UI guy . I released on staging environment and no one liked the UI.
App feature was supposed to be released on Tuesday. Shit hit the fan and i had to create a new ui, code the new parts of the app, do shit ton of other work and extending the deadline to today.
As of now backend code is still not fully functional,
app is ready but edge cases still not tested and I have to pull an all nighter to finish this fucking piece of shit.2 -

I can't seem to find a good CMS for that ? I've no problem with coding the blog myself (with Rails preferably), but I'd like to not start from scratch ! I'll need handle syntax coloration for code samples for example.
Any advices, ready-to-use stuff or not ? :)4 -

Ready program written in C #.
The idea of the program is an inventory system, it is a form screen, and each screen has a design.
The required: Modification of the form and design of the form, for example, the background of the form is black (Dark) when trying to change it from the properties or code. No results.
Also, when adding an image in the background, it does not appear when running the program and the program's interface remains in black, knowing that it is a metroform user.4 -

I got an idea for a fun api which can convert the style of input text, for example “hey I am a chatbot, please ask your query” if converted to the style of yoda from Star Wars will be “chatbot am I, queries you must ask”. There can be different styles like archaic English, sports commentary etc.
I’ve got the ai part ready, just need to write an api (I’m learning django for that). Has anyone got any experience with api marketplaces, I’m not sure what to use?1 -

Been struggling for the past week to get a feature working in my personal project (which is the absolute core feature), and was just about ready to give up completely.
